We've been bit by the love bug. Special guest Matt Serafini joins us to review Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to 2018's Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse. Despite being the longest animated film ever made in America, Across the Spider-Verse has been collecting cash across the box office-verse, with both critics and audiences agreeing that this is a sight of a comic book movie to behold. But what do the Cinemaholics think? We start the show with a brief rundown of the movie's backstory, then swing into a spoiler-free review. We do open up for spoilers later on in the show with plenty of warning, and be sure to stick around for this week's Rotten Tomatoes Game. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. Screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller (both also as co-producers), and David Callaham. The voice cast includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, Mahershala Ali, Oscar Isaac, and many more. Our intro music this week is “Wind Flower” by Toti Cisneros. Links: Email your feedback for the show to cinemaholicspodcast [at] gmail.com Join our Discord! We have a Cinemaholics channel here. Well, Disney remade another one of their classic animated movies in live-action format, which means it's time to dive into The Little Mermaid, from the same director of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. We open the show this week briefly chatting about other movies we're looking forward to this coming month, then it's onto our review and a general look at what's coming next for these Disney live-action remakes. Last, we finish the show with the Rotten Tomatoes Game and a bonus segment looking at a ranking of the Disney live-action remakes according to their RT scores. The Little Mermaid was directed by Rob Marshall with David Magee as screenwriter. The original story is adapted, loosely, from Hans Christian Andersen's 1837 fairy tale. The film stars Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Art Malik, Javier Bardem and Melissa McCarthy. It features new music by Lin-Manuel Miranda and reworked compositions from Alan Menken (who composed the original 1989 animated film). Our intro music this week is “Wind Flower” by Toti Cisneros. The Fast Saga isn't out of gas yet. We're back this week to review Fast X, the tenth installment in the "main" Fast & Furious series of movies starring Vin Diesel as everyone's favorite Family Man. But this isn't just any fast movie. For one thing, it's the eighth most expensive movie of all time. But also, it's the first part of a finale (that might span three films?) promising to bring this franchise to a dead end. This is a spoiler-free review, as usual, and stick around for the end of the show as we play the Rotten Tomatoes Game. Fast X also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Jason Statham, Jason Momoa, and Charlize Theron. Louis Leterrier directs with Dan Mazeau and Justin Lin (who left the project) co-writing the script. Our intro music this week is “Wind Flower” by Toti Cisneros. Time to talk about a movie that really clicks. BlackBerry is a Canadian biographical dramedy that covers the history of the titular phone developed by Research in Motion (RIM) from its meteoric rise starting in the late 90s to its inevitable downfall in the late 2000s. The movie stars Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton as the polar opposite co-CEOs, with Matt Johnson as one of the co-founders and true heart of the film. Plus, Johnson also directed BlackBerry and co-wrote the screenplay with Matthew Miller. BlackBerry was adapted from Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff's book Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry. And the rest of the cast includes Rich Sommer, Michael Ironside, Martin Donovan, Michelle Giroux, SungWon Cho, Saul Rubinek, and Cary Elwes. James Gunn brings it home this week with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the 32nd Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. But more importantly, Vol. 3 rounds out what might be Marvel's best trilogy with Gunn out the door to help out DC. Does this latest adventure with the freakin' guardians of the galaxy hit all the right emotional heartbeats? Well, we're here to hash all that out, along with our general thoughts on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise thus far, and we of course end the show with the Rotten Tomatoes Game. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars (deep breath) Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Will Poulter, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Linda Cardellini, Nathan Fillion, and Sylvester Stallone. TALKING FLOWERS Anemone coronaria: Wind Flower, Anemone. This flower is a member of the Ranunculaceae family and is native to the Mediterranean region. Etymology: The name Anemone comes from Greek and roughly means wind flower, which signifies that the wind that blows the petal open will also, eventually, blow the dead petals away. Coronaria means used for garlands. Tubers, corns or bulbs? Bulbs have a tunic, corms have a basal plate, tubers have multiple growing points or eyes. Anemone tubers are usually planted in early autumn, March until May. Before planting, the tubers are recommended to be dipped in lukewarm water for 2-4 hours or overnight. Planting Depth: Plant Anemones with the pointy end facing down at a depth of 3 to 5cm. Soak well each week until shoots appear. This windflower is an upright perennial that grows from rhizomatous tubers. Leaves are medium green, with basal leaves being biternate and involucral (a whorl or rosette of bracts surrounding an inflorescence (especially a capitulum) or at the base of an umbel..) Leaves are deeply divided. Flowering time: late winter, spring. I'm talking with floral therapist, Mercedes Sarmini.
Those are not petals on the flowers, but the sepals. The flower has petaloid sepals!
