Remember when Blizzard was great? Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo were some of the most powerful IPs in gaming, and they all came from a singular company that could do no wrong. It was truly a glorious time to be alive. So let's bask in the warm glow of nostalgia for this episode, remembering only the good times back before the Devil Himself took sole control and destroyed two and a half decades of loyalty and goodwill. Willkommen zurück in Tristram! Stay a while and listen! Alle Links zum GameStar Podcast und unseren Werbepartnern: https://linktr.ee/gamestarpodcast
Midnight released last week, so this week our podcast crew shared their first impressions of the expansion. While most of their experiences have been positive, there were a few small points where things didn't quite gel the way they wish they would. Of course, nearly everyone's highlight of the expansion thus far is how almost every NPC tells Turalyon to shut his cake hole, but the storytelling and questing has been a blast, even if we can't get into the Vault yet.Less exciting was the first true set of Hearthsteel bundles to hit the battle.net shop, including a beautiful tree. We're salty about the pricing aspect, but have to admit it's a pretty nice tree. Our special guest host this week, columnist Chris Chesno, was on hand to discuss the new Diablo 4 Paladin, which has a trial coming up this week. Plus, oh yeah, there's a Hearthstone expansion releasing next week.If you have a few minutes, please fill out our survey to tell us what you think about the podcast. This week we talk about The Eminence in Shadow Season 2. We start off by discussing our views on the pacing as well as the main character's ridiculous luck. Jack breaks down the rapid-fire arcs, from the Lawless City to a literal corporate war, arguing that the 12-episode run felt rushed and entirely predictable. He saw the protagonist, Cid, as an idiot with blinders on who just stumbles into success through the whole series. Rick, on the other hand, thinks the pacing is a solid step up from season one. He argued that Cid doesn't stumble but rather he "confidently saunters" through the plot as the ultimate edgelord, spitting out gibberish and half-remembered facts that his fanatical followers interpret as absolute genius. In the end we discuss how the series was overall and if it was something that is worth the watch.About the anime:The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 continues where season 1 largely left off. Kicking off with the "Lawless City Arc," where Cid and Shadow Garden investigate the red moon phenomenon and clash with the city's three monarchs: the Blood Queen Elisabeth, Juggernaut, and Yukime. After a very chaotic and rapid first few episodes, everything transitions into the "Corporate War Arc," where Cid takes on a new persona of John Smith and moves into a massive counterfeit currency operation to cause a crisis meant to bankrupt the Mitsugoshi Company. In the end everything results in a massive misunderstanding for him but to his peers everything went according to plan. Leading to the third and final “Oriana Kingdom Arc” where we learn more about the Cult of Diablo, their plans and views and the worlds(?). The show maintains that Cid constantly misunderstands the gravity of the plot while effortlessly looking like a tactical genius to everyone around him.Next Week's Pick: “I Parry Everything”Have you had the chance to watch Eminence In Shadow Season 2 or any of our previous selections? The video game industry is crumbling around us, so I get a little upset and rant about how dumb Riot and Sony are while also talking about how Microsoft is having the roughest time of all. Midnight, the latest expansion for World of Warcraft, released this week, so that's most of our discussion. We tried to keep it spoiler free, but it's kind of hard when you just hate a particular character so [spoiler] much. We talk zones, transmog, decor, and how revisiting these places is hitting all the right nostalgia buttons. But of course, there's always more to come, from the weird little staggered raid schedule to house parties for upgrade tokens (which is a real thing), this is just the beginning of Midnight. There was also a small smattering of Diablo news, with season 11 ending next week, on March 10. Okay, Diablo, we see you.If you have a few minutes, please fill out our survey to tell us what you think about the podcast.

Xbox says it's a “Return to Xbox.” But what does that actually mean? This week we break down Asha Sharma's first interview as Xbox leadership shifts — and whether the brand is facing an identity crisis. We discuss: Hardware vs ecosystem strategy What “form factor” could mean next-gen Exclusivity confusion across Xbox and PlayStation Bluepoint pitching a Bloodborne remake — and Sony saying no Resident Evil Requiem's massive review scores Whether anyone in gaming actually knows where hardware is headed If Xbox owns Call of Duty, Diablo, Fallout and Elder Scrolls… why doesn't it feel like Xbox?

In 1991 Video System released what is undeniably the best three-player vertical arcade shooter that retrofits Lamborghinis into flying vehicles that fight a giant Lexus in space - and 35 years later we're talking about it. Now get your butt in the Diablo(on) as we launch Turbo Force! With its blood selling for $60k per gallon is Turbo Force's giant horseshoe crab the most valuable boss in an arcade game? Does "C" stand for "Canada," "controversy," or "curling"? Did we have the opportunity to buy a famed arcade gaming IP and miss it? Is this the ultimate 90s Trapper Keeper game come to life? We get into the Olympics spirit by - in what may be a Podouken first - all picking the same winter sport to make into an arcade game. We also broadcast our favorite arcade announcers, explore our work ethic by answering if we just hang at the arcade business we own, and what rare games we would refuse to put out for public play.

There's always a lot of news to discuss, but this week there was specifically a lot of news to discuss for all the very best Diablo games: Diablo 2, Diablo 4, Diablo Immortal, end of list, apparently. All three of those games are going to have a new Warlock class, with Diablo 2 getting it immediately, the others slightly later. This is the first new class for Diablo 2 in 20 years, and the second one coming with Diablo 4's upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion (the other being Paladins). There was also a lot to discuss in WoW, as the Lunar Festival began, with zero holiday decor in sight. We don't think a fish tank is too much to ask. Speaking of cute disappointments, Hearthstone released another of those gatcha pets for even more money than before and it has us nostalgic for the days of horse armor. Seriously. And since Cory was joining us, there was a little spot of Heroes of the Storm hopium, which included a new patch and skins. If you have a few minutes, please fill out our survey to tell us what you think about the podcast. We're back with another week of games. Sean is playing through Cairn, Drop Shot, and goes to the SF Nintendo Store to see what's up with My Mario. Paul continues with Diablo 2 and every Mega Man game. Claire tries out Knights of the Round and King of Dragons. News is bleak this week as the RAM shortage impacts PlayStation and Valve. We also discuss layoffs at Ubisoft and Bluepoints Games being shut down. TDP is listener funded. Like what you hear? Want to support the show and get ad-free episodes? As Grand Theft Auto VI begins to lock in its November 19th release date, we're already started to see publishers scramble with their release plans. A recent report out of The Verge firms up that Xbox, like much of this industry, will be attempting to evade the blast zone. As such, they are moving some games up and there's a chance others fall out of the year. Joining Matty this week is Last Stand's own Brad Ellis to talk about everything from Halo Campaign Evolved to Gears Of War: E-Day as we debate and discuss the respective windows of these games. The main question that lingers in our head is if Xbox is avoiding Grand Theft Auto, does that leave December as an option? If not, can all of their 2026 calendar make it out in the anniversary year or would it be best to delay some games into early 2027 for additional polish and breathing room? This week on PREVIOUSLY ON…, Jason and Rosie discuss the trailer for Amazon’s upcoming live-action Spider-Noir series, starring Nicolas Cage as he reprises the titular role from the animated Spider-Verse films. They also break down the trailers for the 2D side-scrolling God of War: Sons of Sparta and an untitled John Wick game, both revealed during Sony’s State of Play. From there, they cover the news that F1 is getting a sequel, along with the surprising announcement that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning to The Mummy franchise for a new installment set to release in 2028. They also discuss a promotional single for the upcoming season of AMC’s The Vampire Lestat, recorded by Lestat’s in-universe vampire band, and the news that Terminator Zero has been canceled at Netflix after one season. Next, they dive into the announcement that Jason Momoa has been tapped to star in a Justin Lin–directed adaptation of the Helldivers game series. They also cover the addition of a new Warlock class across multiple games as part of the Diablo franchise’s 30th anniversary celebration. Finally, they close with the sad news that Dawson’s Creek star James Van Der Beek has tragically passed away from cancer at the young age of 48.
