Aquel gusano del pueblo de los mosetenes apenas tenía el tamaño del dedo meñique cuando comenzó a comer corazones de pájaros. Si no hubiera sido porque era hijo del mejor cazador del pueblo, habría sido muy difícil satisfacer su hambre, porque cuantos más corazones comía, tantos más exigía. Y cada vez crecía más, hasta que tuvo el tamaño de un brazo. Su padre se pasaba días enteros en la selva cazando pájaros a fin de satisfacerlo. Llegó el día en que no quedó ni un solo pájaro vivo en la selva, de modo que el padre, Flecha Certera, comenzó a ofrecerle corazones de jaguar a esa serpiente suya que ya no cabía en la choza. La serpiente devoraba a los infortunados felinos y crecía más aún, hasta que acabó con todos los jaguares de la selva. —Quiero corazones humanos —le exigió a su padre. El diestro cazador no tuvo más remedio que ir matando a los habitantes de su aldea y de las comarcas vecinas hasta dejarlas sin gente. Pero un día, en una aldea lejana, lo sorprendieron en la rama de un árbol y lo mataron. La serpiente ya no soportaba el hambre y la nostalgia, así que salió a bus­carlo. Cuando llegó a la aldea que había matado a su padre, enroscó el cuerpo en torno a todos los habitantes que quedaban para que nadie pudiera escapar. Los guerreros le ensartaron todas sus flechas a aquel anillo gigante que los había cercado, pero aun así la serpiente no dejaba de crecer. Nadie logró salvarse salvo la serpiente, que rescató el cuerpo de su padre y siguió creciendo hacia arriba. Ahora se ve, ondulante, erizada de flechas refulgentes, atravesando el cielo nocturno.1 Esta leyenda indoamericana sobre el origen de la Vía Láctea nos recuerda que los indígenas de aquellos remotos tiempos, que no disfrutaban del telescopio para poder divisar con mayor claridad la multitud de estrellas de la que está compuesta, eran geniales en el uso de su imaginación para llenar los vacíos de su conocimiento científico. Además evoca imágenes mentales de la serpiente bíblica que hizo caer a nuestros primeros padres en el huerto del Edén,2 que se describe como el lucero de la mañana en el libro del profeta Isaías,3 y que vuelve a manifestarse al final de los tiempos, según el Apocalipsis de San Juan. Pero lo que debiera preocuparnos a nosotros es lo que está haciendo en la actualidad «aquella serpiente antigua que se llama Diablo y Satanás»,4 como la identifica San Juan. Porque al igual que la serpiente de la leyenda de los mosetenes, nuestro enemigo el diablo no tiene mayor satisfacción que la de comer corazones humanos, y por eso día y noche anda buscando a quien devorar.5 Cristo, archienemigo y vencedor del diablo,6 está llamando a la puerta de nuestro corazón. Más vale que le demos entrada para que cene con nosotros, que es lo que desea,7 y no que le demos cabida a Satanás, de modo que nuestro corazón llegue a ser la entrada principal de su cena. This week we're looking back at the events of 2025, with our special guest Phil Ulrich. Rather than going at it chronologically, Matt consults a D8, which means we discuss one of our favorite things from the year which actually happened last: player housing! But there were a ton of things that happened in all of Blizzard's games this year, from Plunderstorm's return to Legion Remix, three Hearthstone expansions, and a ton of Diablo 4 seasons (though who can tell the difference between them). We also met new friends like Valentina, the lizard that was a part of a Hearthstonemarketing campaign we would die for, and King Krush, also a Hearthstone-based lizard. Probably a coincidence.The In Memoriam section this year is Warcraft Rumble. May it rest in peace.Then, all the other games that had us in a chokehold. El dragón y sus ángeles pelearon» (Apocalipsis 12: 7).Satanás sembró la disensión entre los ángeles celestiales. ¿Qué les habrá dicho a los ángeles para convencerlos a seguirlo y a pelear contra Dios? Podemos tener una idea de la clase de argumentación persuasiva de Satanás leyendo el libro de Job. Se dice que un día en que debían presentarse ante el Señor sus servidores celestiales, se presentó también el acusador entre ellos, y se suscitó un diálogo entre Dios y Satanás (Job 1: 7-11):—¿De dónde vienes?—He andado recorriendo la tierra de un lado a otro. Entonces le dijo el Señor:—¿Te has fijado en mi siervo Job? No hay nadie en la tierra como él, que me sirva tan fielmente y viva una vida tan recta y sin tacha, cuidando de no hacer mal a nadie.Pero el acusador contestó:—Pues no de balde te sirve con tanta fidelidad. Tú no dejas que nadie lo toque, ni a él ni a su familia ni a nada de lo que tiene; tú bendices todo lo que hace, y él es el hombre más rico en ganado de todo el país. Pero quítale todo lo que tiene y verás cómo te maldice en tu propia cara.En otras palabras, Satanás piensa que Dios compra la lealtad de sus hijos a cambio de bendiciones materiales, como la protección y las riquezas. Eso no sería amor, sino conveniencia. Su lógica es que en el momento en que esos beneficios son retirados, sus creaturas se dan cuenta de que Dios no es confiable. Y no hubo forma de convencer a Satanás de que Dios es amor, por lo que «fue expulsado el gran dragón, aquella serpiente antigua que se llama Diablo y Satanás, y que engaña a todo el mundo. Él y sus ángeles fueron lanzados a la tierra» (Apocalipsis 12: 9).Expulsar a Satanás del cielo era solo una solución parcial. Pero una vez en la Tierra, el villano estaba todo menos vencido.

Since Paladins were announced as the next class to join the roster in Diablo 4 in its next expansion Lord of Hatred -- and already playable with preorder -- Matt and Joe sat down this week to chat about both, but mostly Paladins and their history within the franchise. First, they dive into the place of Paladins within the franchise as contrasted by other classes. Blizzard seems to be cribbing heavily from Diablo 2, with almost all the classes from that game now available in D4. They touch on Paladins from D2, their famous fall, and how that led to the Crusaders from Diablo 3.The story we see in the cinematic also has our Paladin facing off against Mephisto while he inhabits Akarat's body, which he possessed at the end of the previous expansion, Vessel of Hatred. Akarat being one of the founders of the faith the Paladin belongs to, this is a deeply interesting contrast -- as well as a personal religious crisis in the making.
