Putting together VideoFuzzy ep. 100 -- coffee certainly helps! Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman, marking my 100th episode of VideoFuzzy, reporting the progress I've made in cataloging thousands of VHS transfers and digital recordings. This set covers discs 1751 to 1800 in my Classic Collection. I open with a project overview highlighting some of my finds. For my Fuzzy Feature, I encountered the 100th episode of "Bones" that recalled the first case Booth and Bones worked on together. I found a similar story construction in "In Plain Sight," and talked about that one as well. Under Cross Connections I trace Golden Threads Todd Giebenhain and, later, Michael Shamus Wiles. Also, appearances by Amy Acker, Lee Majors, Kathy Najimy, Bryan Batt, Alan Ruck, Stephen Root, Katie Sackhoff, Mark Bergeron, Angela Bassett, Sarah Silverman, Rita Moreno, Dana Delany, Sheryl Crow, Mary Pat Gleason, Marc A. Sheppard, Charlotte Arren, Johnny Broderick, Cyd Cherise, Fred Astaire, Jane Lynch, Olivia Munn and Brian Skala. And under Fond Reflections, love for Michelle Trachtenberg of "Buffy," "Mercy" and "Six Feet Under," and I share some headcanon from an "Angel" chat group I was in. In Video Outreach, I share comments from author and fellow podcaster Kemper Donovan on my review of "Loose Lips," available here: https://bit.ly/3C11ENN Kemper hosts the "All About Agatha" podcast here: https://bit.ly/43j4hnB Then I chat with my sister, Patti Ellingson, about shows we've enjoyed, including "Doctor Who," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Bridgerton" and "Stranger Things." I know I've mentioned my sister's influence on my television viewing different times over the course of this production, and this felt like a fantastic opportunity to chat with her directly. So much fun! In my Classic Collection, I take almost a disc-by-disc deep dive on what I was finding in this set, beginning with a third meet-cute storyline I encountered in this set: the first season finale of "Human Target." Also, comments on "Arrested Development," "The Simpsons," "FlashForward," "Archer," "24," "Caprica," "Community," "Mercy," "Ugly Betty," "Parks and Recreation," "Justified," 2002 and 2005 MTV Movie Award shows, "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report," "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" C-SPAN coverage of the Affordable Care Act, "Breaking Bad," "The Big Bang Theory," "Jawbreaker," "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" "Batman Returns," "The Three Faces of Eve," "Sybil," Union activity at The Minot Daily News, "Star Trek Voyager," "Fawlty Towers," "Monty Python's Flying Circus," commercials and music videos, "LOST," "Cougar Town," "Castle," "Fringe," "Chuck," "Broadway Melody of 1940," "Silk Stockings," "V" and "Damages." Also surfacing in this cataloging effort I found home movies, including a one-act presented at the Carnegie Center in Minot in 2002 or so called "Excerpts." Friends of mine read from books in my collection: https://bit.ly/3DslFO6 It's a bit silly, but if you think of books on your shelves murmuring to one another, that was the idea I was going for. Then, from 100 episodes, I share 100 clips! But there'd only be 99, right? Well, one of the clips I shared referenced outtakes from a "Michael Caine in Space" sketch on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" which, at the time, I had trouble locating. Since then, I was able to locate it here: https://bit.ly/4hnn9XM Enjoy! Finally, in What I've Been Watching, Ralph and I took in Larry Shue's "The Nerd" at the Vernal Theatre downtown, and I shared some thoughts. The company closes out its season with a production of Cole Porter's "Kiss Me Kate" coming up in mid-April, and we're looking forward to it. Tickets and information at https://www.vernaltheatre.com. TOP FIFTEEN: Here's a "Top Fifteen" episode guide for people looking for a quick read-in on this blog and podcast effort: https://videofuzzy.libsyn.com/about. Enjoy!

For our "Two Shot" episode of Best Supporting Acting Winners, Madeline, Julian and Emilio keep things local, and with the help of actor/teacher/fight director Ron Piretti, they dive into both film adaptations of the beloved musical 'West Side Story'. Both the Jerome Robbins original and the Steven Spielberg remake have the distinction of earning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in their respective years for their portrayals of the same character, Anita, by Rita Moreno in 1961 and Ariana DeBose in 2021. In addition to exploring what makes Anita such an indelible and celebrated character, the group explores the ways in which the remake expands the world its characters inhabit, discuss which character portrayals they enjoyed the most, how the climactic "Rumble" is depicted on stage vs on film, the effect that differences in the order of musical numbers has on the greater narrative, and much more! Spielberg has been working towards making a musical for his entire career, so it shouldn't be a surprise that when he finally got to make an all-out musical he brought not only his A-game, but also his deep love and understanding of Old Hollywood musicals with him. This resulted in 2021's West Side Story, an incredibly smart and charming reinterpretation of the Robert Wise film and the Stephen Sondheim original stage play starring Rachel Zegler, Ansel Elgort, Ariana DeBose, and the original's Rita Moreno. Joining us for this discussion is none other than Bill S. Preston Esq. himself, Mr. Alex Winter. He's a bonafide cinephile, a writer and director himself, and brings all that insight into this conversation about Spielberg's legacy and how West Side Story shows that the master is still at the top of his game. Rita Moreno is an absolute living legend who is celebrating her 93rd birthday and about eight decades in Hollywood. She came to New York with her mom from Puerto Rico when she was five years old. She got started in dance classes at age nine and started her career in the entertainment industry quickly thereafter. She's been in so many classic movies, like The King and I, Singin' in the Rain, and West Side Story. She was the first Latina to win an Oscar. She became the second woman and third person to win an EGOT. A year later, she won a second Emmy for her work on The Rockford Files. Rita has done countless guest appearances, was a lead in a bunch of TV shows, but what our Millennial hearts will care about the most is that she provided the voice of the title character in the PBS Series, Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?. A tribute Barbie of her was just released based on her look that she wore when she won an Oscar in 1962.To this day, she is one of the busiest stars in show business. It's musicals month and Bob is at least tripling the amount of musicals he's watched in his lifetime on this month alone and today we go to that timeless tale of salt and garlic who truly have the ability to do wonders together if it wasn't for sausage and it's systemic authoritarianism making things too divided. I'm sure it's obvious that we're talking about the Jerome Robbins/Robert Wise/Stephen Sondheim/Leonard Bernstein joint from 1961 “WEST SIDE STORY” starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblin & Rita Moreno. The American take on “Romeo & Juliet” won Best Picture for that year and is the ground floor for many people's introduction to musicals. Jets, Sharks, fake Latinas, star-crossed lovers, tragedy and the most graceful gang warfare you ever saw. Everyone knows this story. Connor and Dylan are joined by James Scully (Oh, Mary!, Fire Island). Welcome to a brand new episode of DRAMA. The twins and James become fast friends, some might even say sisters, as James tunes in from his dressing room at the Lyceum Theatre. Basking in bisexual lighting, this Broadway star spills on his role as Mary's Teacher in Oh, Mary! James gushes over the brilliance of Cole Escola, his character's pants giving Fiyero's a run for its money, and the stars that have taken in this hysterical romp, including RuPaul, Julia Murney, and Rita Moreno. But first, it truly all began with James' star turn as a Porcupine in a Christmas pageant. He takes us through his iconic list of Ring of Keys moments, ranging from cast albums to Emma Thompson to Stanley Tucci and beyond. James is a sweet and humble boy who gives flowers throughout, especially to his brilliant partner Julio Torres. We cover his time filming “You” with Penn Badgley, Fire Island with his Oh, Mary! co-star Conrad Ricamora, and the Broadway rumor mill. In this episode, the boys pay special tribute to their hero, Gavin Creel, reflecting on his beautiful impact on them and the world. We had such a blast kiki-ing and laughing with James when the three of us really needed it, and maybe you will too. Nathan and Eppy bid a bittersweet farewell to Rita with the final Rockford Files TV Move: If It Bleeds... It Leads (1999). This was a hard one! Rita's husband, schoolteacher Ernie (Hal Linden) is falsely accused of a series of child sexual assaults, and while Jim helps to clear his name, it's not enough to prevent a series of tragedies. While this one has wonderful performances and some great spots of the Rockfordishness we always love, the content and tone made it tough to say we "enjoyed" it. It did give us great closure on "Rita and Jim, their whole thing" but, unfortunately, was not the warm victory lap to bid farewell to our friends that we kinda wanted. Content Warnings: the plot is about a child rapist, scenes include child endangerment and there is a (relatively) graphic suicide. We have another podcast: Plus Expenses. Today on Too Opinionated, we talk with Jane Dorian about the illustrious career of her godfather, Jerry Herman (Hello Dolly!, Mame, La Cage Au Faux, Mack & Mable, Dear World, Milk & Honey, etc) and the women that would become known as Jerry's Girls (Carol Channing, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Pearl Bailey, Liza Minnelli, Leslie Uggams, Karen Morrow, Rita Moreno, Ethel Merman, Mary Martin, and many more). The Doyle Auction House is currently scheduled to offer items of historic significance on November 14th, while his crypt (Adjacent to Marilyn Monroe and Hugh Hefner will be auctioned on October 25th. JERRY HERMAN (Composer/Lyricist) There is never an evening when, somewhere in the world, the music and lyrics of Jerry Herman are not being sung by a lady in a red headdress, or a lady with a bugle, or a middle-aged man in a wig and a boa. Hello, Dolly!, Mame, and La Cage are home to some of the most popular, most-often performed and most successful musical heroines of all time, and have given Jerry the distinction of being the only composer-lyricist in history to have had three musicals that ran more than 1,500 consecutive performances on Broadway. His first Broadway show was Milk and Honey (1961), followed by Hello, Dolly! (1964) Mame (1966) Dear World (1969), Mack & Mabel (1974) The Grand Tour (1979), La Cage (1983), Jerry's Girls (1985) and "Mrs. Santa Claus" (1966), a CBS TV special starring Angela Lansbury. Showtune, a revue of his life's work, is performing in regional theatres around the country. His string of awards and honors includes, Tonys, Grammys, Drama Desk Awards, the Johnny Mercer Award, the Richard Rodgers Award, the Oscar Hammerstein Award, the Frederick Lowe Award, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Theatre Hall of Fame. Nathan and Eppy get re-acquainted with national treasure Rita Moreno in S6S8 No Fault Affair. After Jim's friend Rita, a sex worker, gets beat up badly by her pimp, he nurses her back to health - and she falls for him in the process. He has to navigate her emotions while she's trying to get out of her current life, but of course it's not going to be quick or easy. This is the last "regular" episode of the show for us, and we're really glad it fell here. It gives us almost all of our favorite things in the Rockford Files, and we have a lot to talk about!
