Welcome to TV Break, where Pop Break's Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television. Here's the format of the show:The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex, Bill, & Josh talk about a show/episode/event they liked from the last month including HBO's The Last of Us, Disney Plus's Andor, Max's Hacks, and Apple TV Plus's The Studio.Newsbreak – This month, they breakdown a busy month of news out of TV's Upfronts, with a special focus on the decline of scripted TV and the rising prominence of sports in this year's presentations.Streaming Wars – Alex, Bill, & Josh pick a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. Josh and Bill both went with Netflix thanks all the news they dropped out of this month's TUDUM event, along with the news they swapped out Cocomelon for Sesame Street.Meanwhile, Alex capes up for the newly rebranded HBO Max, thanks to the high quality and virality of their big series The Last of Us, Hacks, and The Rehearsal, the NBA playoffs, the Superman film library, and their recent decision to cull much of Discovery's library from their service.New Series Spotlight – This month we are shining the spotlight on Netflix's Sirens. This series stars The White Lotus' Meghann Fahy and House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as estranged sisters unexpectedly reunited on the eve of Alcock's boss's big Labor Day Weekend Gala. Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, Josh Segarra, Glenn Howerton, and Bill Camp also star. The series was created by Molly Smith Metzler, and is an adaptation of her 2011 play Elemeno Pea.
Q&A on the Netflix series Sirens with creator & showrunner Molly Smith Metzler and cast Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, Glenn Howerton, Felix Solis, and Bill Camp. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company. Devon is concerned about her sister's unhealthy relationship with her new boss.

This week on Welcome to the Poddy, Clay blasts off with a hot take on the celebrity women who went to space — are we one TikTok away from reality show astronauts? He also finally joins a gym. Then it's time for a snack-fueled movie review of Blackberry (Netflix, 2023), starring Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton. Clay pairs the film with a bowl of blueberries and dives into the chaotic rise and tragic fall of the once-unstoppable smartphone empire. Expect laughs, business blunders, and real-life reflections on rivalries, ego trips, and the fine art of peaking too early.
Take a wild ride through the chaotic minds of John and Jay as they navigate everything from indie horror films to metal music breakdowns in this unfiltered exploration of pop culture's strangest corners. The hosts kick off with an enthusiastic analysis of "Finley," a short horror film featuring a hilariously incompetent killer puppet who struggles to murder his victims until they threaten his beloved cat. "I wanted more of this," John declares, praising the puppet's emotional expressiveness while lamenting the short's brevity. Their mutual excitement for this hidden gem reveals their appreciation for unique, creative approaches to familiar horror tropes. When the conversation shifts to music, prepare for an authentic listening party as the duo introduces each other to metal bands like Wage War and Dead by April. Their genuine reactions—complete with air drumming and spontaneous commentary on pitch harmonics and electronic elements—create an intimate experience that feels like discovering new music with friends. John's confession about screaming along to metal songs in the shower adds a relatable, humorous dimension to their musical exploration.Television and film recommendations round out the episode, with particular enthusiasm for "AP Bio," starring Glenn Howerton as a disgraced Harvard professor teaching in Toledo. "Dude, the show is so good," John insists, highlighting the similarities between Howerton's character and his iconic role as Dennis Reynolds in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." This leads to a highlight reel of Dennis's most unhinged moments, including his famous Range Rover meltdown.Subscribe now for weekly doses of unfiltered commentary, unexpected pop culture discoveries, and the kind of inappropriate humor that will have you laughing despite your better judgment. To kick things off, Candi joined me this week to discuss the delightful Abbott Elementary side of the Abbot/It's Always Sunny crossover. We loved it and had a lot of thoughts on the hilarious writing, the amazing pairings, and how this crossover managed to preserve the core of the Sunny characters while still making them Abbott Elementary audience appropriate.Friendly reminder: we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time! Thanks so much for listening! You can find Candi on bluesky at s0verytired.bsky.social.I am also there (and public for the time) at itsjocelyn.bsky.social.And the pod can be found at morewinepod.bsky.social.Support the showFollow the pod on IG, Twitter, and Tumblr.Send longer feedback to morewinepod@gmail.com.Find our full catalog of past episodes at morewinepod.buzzsprout.com.

The writer and podcaster Gus Lanzetta returns to the podcast from São Paulo to give our listeners an update on life in Brazil since their Supreme Court banned X: The Everything App from access to the country, and we thought we would pair this with a movie about a revolutionary communication tool that was suddenly not important anymore: Matt Johnson's 2023 comedy-drama BlackBerry. BlackBerry is that rare Canadian movie that had a worldwide impact; based loosely on a true story, it chronicles the boom and bust of the tech firm Research in Motion based out of Waterloo Ontario, and their “angel investor” Jim Balsillie who scaled the small company up to a global powerhouse with 20 billion in sales annually with their invention of the BlackBerry smartphone, only to crash out years later when the iPhone changed the marketplace once again. Gus and I talk about the recent boom of movies dramatizing the origin stories of brands and what makes BlackBerry stand out from the rest, what this film has to say about being a Canadian, Glenn Howerton's terrific performance as the hotheaded Balsillie, and how Johnson pushes the limits of copyright law and the Fair Use exception to tell this story with unlicensed clips and logos. And Gus tells us all about life in Brazil now that Elon's latest “jogada de mestre” has led to a mass exodus of Brazilians over to Bluesky and what led up to his idiotic war against the Brazilian Supreme Court that has further jeopardized the company! Final Draft's Write On Podcast sits down with Blackberry writers Matt Johnson and Matthew Miller to talk about how they wrote this epic story of the rise and fall of the world's first portable email machine. Johnson and Miller loosely adapted the script from Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff's book Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry. The film Blackberry is a bio-pic dramedy that follows the fictional story of the Blackberry creator Mike Lazaridis, played by Jay Baruchel and his main investor played by Glenn Howerton. “Because we had the book, it was the blueprint for the movie. It has so many of the facts and details that we extrapolated and then sort of placed in the script," says Miller. The production of the movie was a bit like the push to get Blackberry into the marketplace - there was a lot of hustle. “The structure of the movie as it stands came from needing to reuse the same locations over, and over again,” says Johnson. We sat down to hear about this wild ride from true story to script to budgetary concerns and on-screen production. Click to hear more and listen to the podcast.
