Episode 58 - Special Episode: Jurassic World Rebirth (2025)Jurassic Park is one of those franchises that I absolutely love, where Spielberg helped define the summer blockbuster movie season. The first two especially are amazing. Jurassic Park III was a flop. Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom were chapters that brought new life and characters into the franchise. Dominion was overstuffed but had fun visuals and brought back all the characters we love from this series. Three years later we are now caught up with this one... and I am so confused by it.You have Gareth Edwards directing. You can see his work in Rogue One, The Creator, Godzilla (2014), and Monsters (2010). The man is amazing with visual effects and knows how to work quickly and economically. Disney loves him, and I understand why. You also have David Koepp, the OG writer of Jurassic Park. You also have a rock star cast with Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Rupert Friend. This should have been amazing. From an audience and review point of view, there was consensus in the reactions, and yet… this is one of the most globally successful movies of the year! I am so confused and have so many questions. The mysterious box office of Jurassic World Rebirth. This one is still bugging me and I need answers.Jurassic World Rebirth is playing in theaters now. It is also available to rent and buy on all platforms. There is no streaming date for Peacock yet, but my guess based on its theatrical release date is that late October to early November is a safe bet. We've got more episodes, reviews, and recommendations coming your way. If you're enjoying the show, please leave a review, it really helps the podcast. Thanks for listening. I'm really curious about your thoughts on this one if you check it out.

Jake flies solo today to discuss the latest and greatest in the Jurassic Park franchise -- Jurassic World Rebirth is a 2025 American science fiction action film directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp. It takes place three years after Jurassic World Dominion (2022), and is the fourth Jurassic World film as well as the seventh installment overall in the Jurassic Park franchise. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Ed Skrein.
Giant Mess podcast host Neal Lynch reviews Jurassic World Rebirth starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, and everyone's favorite shipwrecked family. The film takes place five years after Jurassic World: Dominion. An expedition is launched to isolated equatorial regions with the goal of extracting DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures—this time for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough. The visuals and dinosaur action are praised as impressive and thrilling. The “T-Rex River Wrath” sequence is called “one of the best scenes of the year.”References to the in-movie suggestion that people might be “over dinosaurs.” The host challenges this, arguing that the enduring box office and cultural impact prove otherwise—“People love dinosaurs.”There's criticism for relying on “familiar and somewhat underdeveloped” plot points and characters. The Delgado family and some other new additions don't quite land as fresh as hoped.Scarlett Johansson (“Scarjo”) debuts as Zora Bennett, a covert ops expert. She's enthusiastic about joining the franchise but gives a more restrained performance, possibly to differentiate from her Marvel persona.Mahershala Ali (Duncan Kincaid) is praised as a standout, with the host suggesting he nearly “stole the show.”Jonathan Bailey (Dr. Henry Loomis) is also positively received.Gareth Edwards is recognized for his approach and commended for atmosphere and “making you feel uneasy,” but Rebirth is described as his “lowest-rated directorial effort,” though still “mid-tier” in the Jurassic franchise hierarchy.Writer David Koepp returns (he wrote the original Jurassic Park and other classics. The podcast pushes back on industry/media claims about dinosaur (or superhero) movie over-saturation: “We're nowhere near the same level of saturation [as superheroes], and dinosaurs are still exciting by nature.Franchise longevity is compared to *Fast & Furious*. The host argues Jurassic could continue with annual dinosaur movies and still not reach genre exhaustion.Movie Reviews from Giant Mess Podcast - https://bit.ly/GiantMessMovieReviews TV Show Reactions from Giant Mess Podcast - https://bit.ly/GiantMessTV Funny Stories from Giant Mess Podcast - https://bit.ly/GiantMessFunnyStoriesNew York Giants Fan Rants & Analysis from Giant Mess Podcast - https://bit.ly/NYGiantsYTPlaylist NY Mets Fan Rants & Analysis from Giant Mess - https://bit.ly/MetsYTPlaylist ABOUT NEAL LYNCH:Irish-Italian-American who graduated from a Catholic high school (even though I'm not Catholic), and a college known for producing doctors and lacrosse players, then became neither.
Jurassic World Rebirth (2025, Dir. Gareth Edwards, Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey) Superman (2025, Dir. James Gunn, Starring: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult) Eddington (2025, Dir. Ari Aster, Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro... Josh is joined by recurring guest Daniel Lima to to talk all about "Jurassic World Rebirth." They discuss the different paths not taken by the franchise and if Rebirth was a step back in the right direction, the different types of mutant dinosaurs it introduces and if they were effectively rendered, the performances from the cast that included Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Rupert Friend and much more! Edited and produced by Daniel Lima.
The seventh instalment in the Jurassic Park (now Jurassic World) series, Jurassic World Rebirth might be the first of the sequels to really come close to capturing the kind of wonder, excitement and horror that the 1993 original offered. That might be in part because it cribs liberally from it, with both moments and entire sequences closely evocative of their 32-year-old counterparts. But there's plenty else that's new here, and Rebirth is a characterful expansion to the Jurassic Park story. Thoughts of containment have finally been totally discarded - dinosaurs have now been roaming the Earth for some time, to the point that they're dying out everywhere other than a narrow band around the equator, which is illegal for human travel. So that's where we're headed, of course, as a pharmecutical exec seeking to make a fortune from dino-sourced drugs hires a team of mercenaries to extract blood from three creatures: one that swims, one that walks, and one that flies. It's a decent structure that tells you what to expect and allows for a variety of settings and action, into which are placed such charismatic stars as Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend. Director Gareth Edwards builds the world beautifully, exploiting it for that sense of scale that so defines his aesthetic, and reminding Mike in particular of his feature debut Monsters; and although in simple terms - this is, ultimately, a blockbuster sequel - the film has a moral message worth expressing. Jurassic World Rebirth is easily the best of the Jurassic sequels and equally easy to recommend. Just try not to focus too much on how it reminds you of a better film from 1993. Recorded on 13th July 2025.
After a Spring hiatus, Byrd and Matt come back to discuss Jurassic World Rebirth, the newest entry in the Jurassic Park franchise directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla 2014, Monsters, Star Wars: Rogue One). This entry follows a group of mercenaries (led by Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali) tasked with gathering dino DNA for medical research by going to an island used for genetic experimentation. Along the way they meet up with a family they save during a Mosasaur attack. We discuss an endless amount of dinosaur chase sequences, the rushed production of the film, Snickers wrappers, Lays potato chips, and the death of the "director as auteur" in blockbuster film making. So how does this one compare to the last few entries? Listen and find out!

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesMarvel Studios may be sitting out of this weekend's storied San Diego Comic Hall H, but that hasn't stopped the big news and updates from pouring in. First, last week in a huge move, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige invited a small group of journalists to Marvel Studios' offices where he laid out the future for the next 5 to 7 years for the MCU. The biggest takeaway, arguably, was Feige's cagey hints regarding a likely reset to the universe during the events of Secret Wars, saying, “Reboot is a scary word; Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we're thinking along those lines.” Other tidbits from Feige's comments include a commitment to recasting the X-Men with new actors for their post Secret Wars film, an update on the Mahershala Ali-led Blade film and Sony's mandate that they stay away from a live action Miles Morales until the conclusion of the animated Spider-Verse trilogy. In Marvel news that looks to the more immediate future, director Matt Shakman shared that John Malkovich's role and performance as the Red Ghost has been removed from The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, which opens this week!Superman continues to live up to its name when it comes to its performance, as the superhero flick passed $409 million at the global box office in its second weekend of release. The $58 million second weekend, which is a respectable -54% drop from the opening weekend, is in keeping with 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine and bodes favorably compared to other recent releases from the comic book genre; plus coupled with other wins like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, the latest success has helped Warner Bros become 2025's top earning studio with $1.32 billion in ticket sales. In other news, Variety confirmed Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira has been tapped to pen the Wonder Woman reboot for the DCU in addition to being attached to a live action Teen Titans project for the studio.Lots and lots of trailers hit the interwebs last week, lets run them down and talk about ‘em:Alien: EarthPredator: BadlandsTron: AresStranger Things S5Mortal Kombat IIChristopher Nolan made history by putting tickets on sale for The Odyssey exactly one year before the film's release, marking the first time any movie tickets have sold a full year in advance. For Episode 163, we review the latest film in the Jurassic Park franchise — a so-called rebirth featuring Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali. Jason's love for dinosaurs is stronger than ever, and we're joined by our brother Chris to break down the film's highs, lows, and everything in between. We hold the franchise accountable for its ongoing lack of story development and question whether audiences even care, as long as there are dinosaurs on screen. Jazz adds a fun twist by giving the guys their own island assignments — with hilarious results. We also dig into the cast chemistry, whether Scarlett's character was “playing the field,” and if the inclusion of the family subplot added anything of value. As always, we wrap with the ultimate question: Was It Good Though?

It's just Kevin and Lauren again this week, since Andrew thinks having a life is important or whatever. They talk the Squid Game finale, Jurassic World Rebirth, Megan 2.0, and Heads of State. The show opens up like last week, with the discussion of the final season of Squid Game. This time, though, Kevin and Lauren come with full knowledge of the finale. If you haven't watched for some reason (seriously, why haven't you?!?) be warned this will be spoiler heavy. Basically, the spoiler free review is, it's a really strong ending to a really great show. No other episode or spin offs need to be created, and yet... But I digress! Next up, Kevin talks Jurassic World Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johanson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. As far as the Jurassic films go, it's definitely one of the better ones. It's go action, adventure, and a boatload of CGI (that could be better, lets be honest). The story and the heart are there and it leaves the door open for more films, so what's not to love?!? Speaking of things not to love... Megan 2.0... Lauren saw this film and, like the majority of the viewing audience, was left wanting. The film steers away from the horror genre into more of an action film and it seems like it doesn't translate well. The film is problematic in many ways, all of which are detailed by Lauren. So if you need to convince yourself not to see this one in the theater, don't skip this section. Remember, at APNC, we love to watch so you don't have to! Kevin closes the show with Heads of State, a film he was convinced would be in the same category as Megan 2.0. But here's the thing - it's a lot of fun. John Cena and Idris Elba play the US President and the British Prime Minister, respectively. This is an action comedy so we aren't looking towards award season, but they play their parts wonderfully. Look, if you loved the action comedies of the 90s (tink Tango and Cash or anything with Arnie), then you should really enjoy this film. As a massive bonus, it's on Prime and won't cost you a dime! As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week! We learned about dino DNA for the first time in 1993 with the first Jurassic Park movie. That DNA must have staying power but they're still churning out Jurassic movies 32 years later. This time, in “Jurassic World: Rebirth”, it's Scarlett Johanssen, post-Black Widow, taking the lead. She plays Zora, a merc hired by a questionable pharmaceutical rep to help a dinosaur expert get access to a forbidden area where dinosaurs still roam free. This is all to get some dino DNA to help cure heart disease. Is it worth going to the theater to find out what happens next? Check out this episode to find out! “Jurassic World: Rebirth” also stars Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacano and Ed Skrein. Send us a textDinosaurs and box office numbers find a way, even when creativity doesn't. The latest Jurassic installment stomped through theaters with a staggering $318 million global opening, proving once again that this prehistoric franchise remains Hollywood's gold standard for bankable intellectual property.Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali headline Jurassic World Rebirth, bringing star power to a franchise that's circling the creative drain yet continues to draw massive audiences. We dissect what works in this seventh installment – primarily Gareth Edwards' undeniable talent for spectacular visual set pieces – and what falls flat. From the breathtaking Titanosaurus sequence in tall grass to the genuinely thrilling underwater T-Rex chase (finally realizing a sequence from Crichton's original novel), the film delivers exactly what audiences expect from the franchise: dinosaurs hunting humans in increasingly elaborate scenarios. But beneath the impressive technical achievement lies familiar franchise fatigue. Characters feel underdeveloped despite the talented cast, emotional beats are undercut by the need to move to the next set piece, and the film's structure often feels algorithmically designed to hit nostalgic beats from previous entries rather than charting bold new territory. As this film kicks off another planned trilogy, we question where the franchise can possibly go from here without completely rehashing familiar territory. We also discuss Christopher Nolan's mysterious Odyssey trailer that premiered exclusively before Jurassic World screenings and look ahead to next week's Superman release – another major franchise reboot that faces similar challenges in balancing fan expectations with creative revitalization. Can James Gunn deliver something fresh in a crowded superhero landscape, or are we destined for another case of franchise fatigue? Join us as we explore these questions and more on this week's Excuse the Intermission.Support the show

It's an explosive episode of the Breakfast All Day podcast for you on this Fourth of July holiday. We begin with the big movie of the week, "Jurassic World: Rebirth" which aims to reboot the decades-long "Jurassic" franchise. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey are all wildly overqualified for running from freakish, mutant dinosaurs. In theaters. Next up is one of the best movies ever made, and that's not hyperbole: Wong Kar Wai's masterpiece "In the Mood for Love" is back in theaters for its 25th anniversary. If you've never seen this gorgeous, achingly romantic movie projected, here's your chance. The impossibly glamorous Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung co-star. Check here to see if it's playing near you: https://inthemoodforlove25.film/. Then we have another throwback review: "This Is Spinal Tap," which is in theaters for its 41st anniversary. The OG mockumentary about a British rock band on the decline is still hilarious and infinitely quotable all these years later. It's back for a limited run, and you can get tickets here: https://www.fathomentertainment.com/releases/this-is-spinal-tap/. Finally, we did our version of The New York Times' list of the best films of the century. We each picked 10 favorites from the past 25 years, but came at it from different perspectives with very different results. This was a tough but fun assignment! What would you put on your list?
