This week The Guys revisited a tradition of going to a movie none of their wives wanted to see.  Permission to watch Supergirl was granted and acted upon.   No Oscar nominations are expected (though the CGI dog is pretty good), but The Guys give it 3 thumbs up.  Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa seem to fit their roles, and David Corenswet seems very Superman-ish in his appearances.  Despite Jay's confusion (why is this movie taking place mostly in space with what seemed like cameo appearances from Star Wars aliens?), the story moves along and makes sense.  Lots of planets, multi-colored suns, but no multi-verses.  In other news, sadly, the leader from an iconic band passes from the planet.   On the other side of the planet, for those who love electric cars AND Batman, Mihandra is ready to take your rupees.  “Heroes” is back on Netflix, so maybe Jay will get past the first few episodes this time around.  Save The Guys!  Save the World!

We had a good time. We just wanted a little more. This week on Zero Dark Nerdy we're sitting down with our full review of Supergirl — the DCU's big summer blockbuster — and honestly it's a mixed bag with perhaps too many cooks in the kitchen? Milly Alcock is fantastic, Jason Momoa as Lobo is undeniable and the cast all around brings real energy to their roles, There's plenty of action-packed fun to keep you in your seat and you can feel the potential of where this DCU era could go...BUT we'd be doing you dirty if we didn't keep it real — the script and plot don't quite match the talent on screen, the pacing gets a little wobbly, and we are still grieving the Blondie-esque trailer soundtrack that never made it into the final film. It also feels like a movie with a few too many cooks in the kitchen, and that shows. Not a bad time at the theater by any means — just one we probably won't be revisiting at home.We dig into all of it, the highs, the frustrations, and what we're hoping the DCU takes away from this one going forward.New episodes every week. Along the way we discuss Justin Lin's sudden exit, too much bluescreen, Vatican pinball, Jason Momoa as an evil gay guy, sticking Michelle Rodriguez in a concrete room for most of the movie, alternate storylines, Vin Diesel's social media carnival barking, giant ego and allegations -- it all comes to a big, bald head here with the penultimate installment of this strange, misshapen, yet often lovable mutant of a movie series.  Note: We relied heavily on the books Fast and Furious Franchising by Dan Hassler-Forest and Welcome to the Family by Barry Hertz to inform our research and discussion of this series. Episode 299 of Tom Clark's 6M Podcast is a look at Supergirl (2026). Tom Clark and Phil Lindsey break down the second film in DC Studios' new DC Universe, examining Milly Alcock's darker take on Kara Zor-El, the film's adaptation of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and how its revenge-driven space adventure differs from the hopeful tone established in Superman. They also discuss the film's long road to the big screen, James Gunn and Peter Safran's creative direction for the new DCU, and behind-the-scenes stories from the production. The conversation covers the performances of Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, Jason Momoa, and David Corenswet, along with the movie's mixed critical reception, disappointing box office performance, and what Supergirl could mean for the future of the franchise. Does this emotionally scarred version of Kara Zor-El offer a compelling new direction for the character, or does the film struggle to balance its cosmic adventure with its darker themes? SPOILER WARNING The new Supergirl movie had everything we wanted on paper: Milly Alcock as a more broken, bitter Kara Zor-El, a fresh contrast to Superman's optimism, Krypto the Superdog, Jason Momoa as Lobo, and a chance to keep the new DC Universe momentum going after James Gunn's Superman. Unfortunately… we did not love this one. In this spoiler-heavy Supergirl movie review, we break down why the movie felt more like DC's Babysitters Club than a bold new superhero adventure, why Kara's “punk rock” attitude never quite lands, why the Ruthie revenge plot feels weirdly underwritten, and why the movie's feminist ideas feel more like random ingredients thrown into a blender than an actual story. We also get into the Krypto problem, the Jason Momoa/Lobo cameo, the discourse around whether Supergirl is bombing because of misogyny, the bizarre ending, the comparisons to Guardians of the Galaxy, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Superman, and whether this movie hurts our excitement for the future of the DCU. This week on Fantastic Forum, we are traveling from the stars of the DC Universe to the haunted hills of Italy with two exciting new releases. First up is Supergirl, the latest film from DC Studios starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, Jason Momoa, David Corenswet, Emily Beecham, and David Krumholtz. Inspired by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film follows Kara as she embarks on a dangerous journey across the cosmos that challenges her understanding of justice, family, and what it truly means to be a hero. We are breaking down the performances, the visual spectacle, and whether this latest chapter continues the momentum of DC Studios' new cinematic universe. Then we turn to Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: The Monster of Nivola, written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, with painted art by Daniele Serra and lettering by Clem Robins. Set in 1963, Hellboy is dispatched to the mountain village of Nivola, Italy, where an ancient legend has become a terrifying reality. As villagers disappear and fear spreads through the countryside, Hellboy uncovers a monstrous force tied to the region's dark folklore. Serra's haunting painted artwork perfectly complements Mignola and Golden's atmospheric tale, delivering a gothic mystery that feels both timeless and unmistakably Hellboy. Netflix rewrites beloved characters, Sony walks away from physical media, Westeros delivers, and DC Studios stumbles out of the gate again. This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl discuss Netflix's handling of Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 and why disrespecting beloved characters is becoming one of streaming's biggest problems. They also break down Sony's latest PlayStation decisions and what they mean for the future of physical media and game ownership. Then it's back to Westeros for House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 2 before wrapping things up with their review of Supergirl (2026) and whether DC Studios has another winner on its hands. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Playstation Kill Physical Media: 06:07 AtLAB, Netfilx is why we can’t have nice things: 28:20 House of the Dragon: 41:57 Supergirl: 56:27 PlayStation Announces the End of Physical Media Announcement Date: July 1, 2026 Effective Date: January 2028 Company: Sony Interactive Entertainment Summary: Sony announced that beginning in January 2028, all new PlayStation games will be released digitally only, ending production of physical Blu-ray game discs for future releases. Games already released—or scheduled for release before the 2028 cutoff—will continue to be sold on disc, but every new title afterward will require a digital download through the PlayStation Store or participating retailers. Sony says the decision reflects changing consumer habits, noting that digital purchases now account for roughly 80% of full-game sales on PlayStation. Key Details: – Physical discs for new PlayStation releases end in January 2028. – Existing disc-based games will continue to work and remain available while supplies last. – Retailers will transition to selling digital download codes instead of boxed games. – Sony says the move follows overwhelming consumer preference for digital purchases. Why It Matters: – Gamers lose the ability to buy, sell, trade, or lend future PlayStation games. – Collectors will no longer have physical editions for new releases. – Consumers become increasingly tied to Sony's digital storefront and licensing model. – Preservation advocates worry that future games could become inaccessible if licensing changes or digital storefronts eventually close. – Digital-only distribution gives publishers greater pricing control by reducing competition from the used-game market. Discussion Points: – Do you really own a digital game, or are you simply purchasing a revocable license? – What happens to game preservation when no physical copy exists? – Will digital-only distribution lead to higher prices due to reduced retail competition? – Is convenience worth giving up ownership rights? – Does this set the stage for the PlayStation 6 to become a fully digital platform? Industry analysts increasingly believe so. Infamous Take: While digital downloads are undeniably convenient, this announcement marks the end of an era. Physical media has always given players tangible ownership, resale value, and long-term access independent of corporate licensing agreements. Sony's decision may make business sense, but it also shifts even more control away from consumers and toward platform holders; a trend that extends far beyond gaming. Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix) Season: 2 Platform: Netflix Summary: Brian and Darryl discuss Netflix's continued adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender and why they believe the series is losing sight of what made the original so beloved. The conversation focuses on major character changes, the difference between adaptation and rewriting, and why respecting the heart of the source material matters just as much as updating it for a modern audience. House of the Dragon (HBO Max) Season 3, Episode 2 Title: Queen’s Landing Air Date: June 28, 2026 Director: Clare Kilner Writer: Sara Hess Summary: Following the devastating Battle of the Gullet, Rhaenyra's grief quickly turns into resolve as Team Black moves to seize King's Landing. Alicent secretly conspires to surrender the city in hopes of saving part of her family, while Daemon returns to continue the campaign. The episode marks a major turning point in the Dance of the Dragons as alliances shift, old loyalties collapse, and Rhaenyra finally claims the Iron Throne at tremendous personal cost. Rating out of 5 Otto Not So Hightower Brian: 4.5/5 Darryl: 4.45/5 Supergirl (2026) Release Date: June 26, 2026 Runtime: 108 minutes Director: Craig Gillespie Writer: Ana Nogueira Based On: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely Studio: DC Studios Distributor: Warner Bros. Pictures Summary: Kara Zor-El embarks on a brutal interstellar journey alongside the young warrior Ruthye Marye Knoll to hunt down the man responsible for murdering Ruthye's family. Along the way, Kara confronts her own trauma while facing the ruthless Krem of the Yellow Hills, resulting in a darker, more cosmic take on the Girl of Steel than previous film adaptations. Main Cast: – Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl – Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll – Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills – Jason Momoa as Lobo – David Krumholtz as Zor-El – Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze – David Corenswet as Superman (cameo) Production Notes: The second film in DC Studios' new shared universe adapts Tom King's acclaimed Woman of Tomorrow storyline, emphasizing Kara's emotional scars and cosmic adventures over a traditional superhero origin. Despite strong expectations and praise for Milly Alcock's performance, the film opened below box office projections and received mixed critical reception, making it one of the first commercial disappointments of the new DC Universe. Supergirl This week we rocket headfirst into the second film of the new-ish DC Cinematic Universe; Supergirl, a character who's been orbiting the DC universe since the Silver Age, occasionally stepping out from Superman's shadow to remind everyone that capes aren't a boys-only club. Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock alongside Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Jason Momoa desperately trying to wash off the fishy smell of Aquaman. We find Kara Zor-El trading Metropolis for the far reaches of space and her colourful costume for a pair of sunnies with a tan duster. There's the CGI dog again, a revenge quest, and a tone that suggests that maybe this isn't your Saturday-morning cartoon version of heroism. The film has already sparked conversations about how female superheroes are portrayed and whether they're being written with the same complexity, agency, and messy humanity as their male counterparts… or whether we're still stuck in orbit around old tropes. Enter your podcast super-friends: Jill, providing super strength and razor-sharp insight; Dion, keeping things grounded (mostly); Peta, flying high as ever; and Quinny, heroically attempting to hold it all together while absolutely not getting distracted by space dogs or continuity debates. Together, they tackle not just Supergirl itself, but the bigger question: How do we fairly critique female-lead films in the superhero genre today? And why is that such a hard question to ask? Synopsis Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, joins forces with an unlikely companion on an interstellar journey of vengeance and justice when an unexpected adversary strikes too close to home. https://youtu.be/kAJcpCRVwPU A huge shout-out to the super heroic folks who fly in to join our moderated live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. Together, they explore how Supergirl delivers a vastly different experience to Superman, trading bright optimism for a darker, more personal story centred on grief, identity, revenge, and belonging.Jamie and Todd discuss Milly Alcock's standout performance, the emotional depth she brings to a character carrying the trauma of Krypton's destruction, and why her rebellious interpretation of Supergirl offers a fascinating contrast to David Corenswet's hopeful Superman. SUPERGIRL, the follow-up to James Gunn's SUPERMAN from last year, has finally hit theaters, and people are being totally chill and not weird at all about it. Just kidding! The discourse has reached a fever pitch, but does the movie, starring Milly Alcock as the titular heroine with an assist from Jason Momoa as Lobo and David Corenswet returning as the Man of Steel, deserve the divisive response it's getting? SPOILERS!!!!Dave's just back from vacation in Maine, so he and Cody recorded this one as an unedited, free-flowing conversation. They review Supergirl, the second film in James Gunn's rebooted DCU. They dig into Milly Alcock carrying the movie almost single-handedly, the grief and trauma (and Krypto violence) at the story's core, the choices with the ending, the literally-too-dark visuals, and Lobo as a wasted character. Plus a callback to Cody's earlier hot take on the pre-release backlash, the Deeper Themes turn on grief and connection, a Tom Hardy recast, and an honest split on whether we're nearing the end of the theatrical era. This is an unedited live conversation, so expect a looser, shorter hang than usual.Movie reviewed: Supergirl (2026) — Directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Ana Nogueira, based on Tom King's comic. Starring Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Jason Momoa as Lobo. In theaters now.

Supergirl may not save humanity, but we're always here for you at Breakfast All Day. Here's what we reviewed in our latest episode: SUPERGIRL. It's getting mostly mixed-negative reviews, and we're on the lower end of that scale. We enjoyed Milly Alcock as the aggressively blasé Kara Zor-El, and we really liked Jason Momoa as the imposing Lobo, but for the most part this "Superman" follow-up is a mess. Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley co-star. In theaters. JACKASS: BEST AND LAST. After more than a quarter century, Johnny Knoxville and his rowdy, masochistic friends can still make you squirm and howl with laughter at their elaborate stunts. But this final "Jackass" movie is also surprisingly poignant. Kids, don't try this at home. In theaters. MOVIE NEWS LIVE! Always a lot to discuss, including "The Bear," "The Odyssey," Eddie Murphy's "Donkey" movie, Ken Russell's "The Devils," the death of music mogul Clive Davis and more. Hollywood's newest Supergirl is kind of a dirtbag — in the good way. Fearless and grumpy, Supergirl (Milly Alcock) sets out on a quest to support a new pal's revenge journey and to make a point that should be clear by now: Never mess with a lady's dog. Also featuring David Corenswet and Jason Momoa, is Supergirl a worthy follow up to Superman? If you want more DC superhero action, check out these episodes: 'Superman' takes off and nails the landing'The Batman' puts the emo in emoteConnect with Pop Culture Happy Hour:Letterboxd / FacebookOur weekly newsletterSupport Pop Culture Happy Hour+See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy

America is celebrating its 250th birthday... and naturally The Rizzuto Show immediately derails the conversation by asking the only question that matters: what ridiculous stuff deserves to survive another 250 years? This daily comedy show goes completely off the rails as the crew debates whether future civilizations need Crocs, Stanley Cups, Ring doorbell raccoon footage, Shake Weights, CVS receipts, a single lost AirPod, Nicolas Cage himself, or maybe just Dolly Parton's legendary wigs.Speaking of Dolly, Lern dives into Dolly Parton's brand-new Tennessee travel stop, complete with BBQ, showers, merch, sparkling guitars, and enough Southern charm to make every interstate exit jealous. The conversation quickly snowballs into which musicians deserve their own themed truck stops around America, leading to debates over Nelly, Chuck Berry, Metallica, KISS, and who really owns Missouri music history. Then it's celebrity chaos as the crew breaks down the latest rumors surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's reported multi-day wedding celebration. Is Madison Square Garden really the right place? Is America being upstaged during its own birthday? And how much New York traffic can one celebrity wedding possibly create?Music fans also get plenty to chew on with Bring Me The Horizon's brutally heavy throwback release, Jason Momoa reflecting on hosting Black Sabbath's farewell celebration, memories from Ozzy Osbourne's final performances, Metallica box sets, Chris Cornell reissues, and new albums worth checking out.The celebrity news doesn't stop there. Chet Hanks hilariously leans into his own reputation in a new commercial, Kylie Jenner faces another lawsuit, Prince William officially joins the billionaire club, and the crew remembers legendary Blood, Sweat & Tears vocalist David Clayton-Thomas while celebrating one of classic rock's greatest voices.Movie fans aren't left out either. The gang reviews early reactions to Supergirl, talks James Gunn's DC universe, discusses the latest Jackass film, and previews some surprising new releases hitting theaters and streaming. As always, Crap on Celebrities wraps things up with birthdays, entertainment headlines, questionable opinions, and the kind of completely unnecessary debates that somehow become the highlight of every episode. If you enjoy pop culture, weird news, rock music, celebrity gossip, and conversations that spiral from national history into Dolly Parton truck stops in record time, this daily comedy show delivers exactly the kind of beautiful nonsense you've come to expect. Thanks for making The Rizzuto Show part of your day. Whether you're commuting, working, pretending to work, or hiding from your responsibilities, we're happy to provide the soundtrack for your poor life choices. One more thing…If you could put ONE item into America's time capsule that won't be opened until 2276... what would it be?That's the question. And yes, someone absolutely suggested a Big Mac.Because of course they did. This daily comedy show wouldn't have it any other way.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
