This week we will be taking a look at the 2026 sci-fi adventure film PROJECT HAIL MARY. It was produced and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (the team behind Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs, The LEGO Movie and Sony's Miles Morales Spider-verse franchise) and based on the novel by Andy Weir (author of The Martian). In the film, science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. As his memories slowly return, he discovers that he must figure out the puzzle behind a mysterious substance that's causing the sun to die out -- but he may not have to do it alone…for a lone alien is also on the same mission as his star is also dimming from the same mysterious substance and not the two of them have to team up to save both their worlds. This week, we review Project Hail Mary, the second adaptation of an Andy Weird novel following 2015's The Martian. Teaming up with directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a conscripted schoolteacher-turned-astronaut on a mission to save the Earth and its dying sun. There's no denying that Project Hail Mary is the moviegoing event of the year so far, but does it have the craft and performances to elevate it above its crowd-pleasing station? Listen and find out.
Kenny and Mike discuss and spot faith in the popular film Project Hail Mary. Based on the novel by Andy Weir (The Martian) The film was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Huller, and James Ortiz. Named after the term for desperate, last minute plays in sports, the film tells the story of a desperate space mission to discover a way to stop a mysterious substance named Astrophage (Star-eater) that is killing the Sun and other stars. Ryland Grace (Gosling) a Jr. High biology teacher is recruited by an Govenrment agent and scientist Eva Stratt (Huller) to work on a project to find a way to save the Sun. After discovering a nearby star (Tau Ceti) that seems not to be impacted by the astrophage, a mission is planned to travel to Tau Ceti and discover how it is combatting the astrophage. Since there is not enough room for fuel for a return trip, the mission is considered to be a suicide mission. Upon arrival, Grace discovers a spaceship has been sent by Eridani, another planet seeking to also find out how to save it's star. Grace and Rocky, the pilot/scientist from Eridani must work together despite requiring different atmospheres and speaking different languages in order to discover the secret and save their planets' populations. Faith Reflected: The major faith element reflected is the need for community, putting aside difference and working together for the common good. Accepting differences and working with other groups who have differing beliefs and practices does not mean that one is abandoning one's belief or practices. Community can and should be established with others faith communities, political organizations, nations, and social groups.

Initially Ortiz's voice was meant as a marker until the directors cast another voice actor but they liked Ortiz's take so much, they kept his voice. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's Project Hail Mary is an exceptionally audience-friendly adaptation of Andy Weir's novel of the same name, offsetting the story's doomsday scenario with lots of jokes, a charismatic lead, and most especially the buddy dynamic between Ryan Gosling's human protagonist and an alien engineer named Rocky.
