Welcome to 2k Away Podcast! Two sisters. Two thousand miles apart. We discuss all things creepy: murder, UFO's, conspiracies, the paranormal, and the macabre, with a sprinkle of stupid humor.
Paige's week! We're sorry it's another late one but this week, we're talking about Rattlesnake James. Born Major Raymond Lisenba, he is another bluebeard (dude version of a black widow) that Paige is covering. This piece of garbage has three victims, and they're all in the name of insurance fraud; Winona Wallace, Cornelius Wright (his nephew), and Mary Busch. He has that nickname for a reason and you'll have to listen to find out!

Payton's week!Whew. This one is a rough one to hear, but we're talking about the incredibly tragic murder of 4 year old Derrick Robie, who was murdered by 13 year old Eric Smith. Eric has been released from prison as of 2022, and with that, we thought that we would revisit the case to discuss the gray area of convicting minors, but mainly to remember Derrick. We discuss the murder from 25:58 - 30:18 for anyone who doesn't want to listen.
Paige's week!It was a long time coming but we finally have a part two of our Catacombs, Coffins, and Bones, Oh My! Paige week again! It's been a long road but we're finally here, guys, the finale of Israel Keyes. This episode is a little chaotic and looooong but hang in there. Israel gives the names of Bill and Lorraine Currier, a couple out of Essex, Vermont. We talk about what happened with them from their kidnapping, to their murders. There is one more victim named who is Debra Feldman. We also go through some of Keyes' bank robberies and then finally to his death. In remembrance of the confirmed victims of Israel KeyesSamantha KoenigBill CurrierLorraine CurrierDebra Feldman
Paige's week! Today we're bringing you part 3 of Israel Keyes, but don't worry, next week will be the finale! This time we talk about Keyes' side of the story of what happened with Samantha. After he tells his story, the investigators weren't convinced that Samantha was his first victim, and their suspicions were right when he starts hinting at other victims.
Another Paige week! This week for part two of Israel Keyes, we don't actually talk about him very much. We are focusing on Samantha Koenig and her abduction, leading up to Israel's arrest. This is really just a look of what he is capable of and you haven't even heard the worst of it. To hear Israel's side of the story, check in next week for part 3!
Paige's week!So sorry for our continued hiatus but for at least the next four weeks your going to get episodes because this is just part 1 of 4! Paige did a deep dive into the serial killer that nobody has heard of, Israel Keyes. In this episode the only thing that we get into his the bizarre way that Israel was raised until adulthood. Remember some of the things that are mentioned in this episode because certain things he ends up doing won't make sense unless you remember them from this episode. Watch out for part two next week!Source: "American Predator: The hunt for the most meticulous serial killer of the 21st century" by Maureen Callahan
Payton's week! Sorry about the late upload guys, but we gave you a long one to make up for it!We cover the Hinterkaifeck murders in this episode. These very gruesome murders occurred on March 31, 1922 in a very small and isolated community around the town of Kaifeck in Germany. Five members of the Gruber family and their brand new maid, Maria, were all brutally murdered by an unknown assailant. This year will mark the 100th anniversary of this tragedy and there has never been anyone convicted for it.
Paige's week!Strap in guys, this is a long one. We ended it in just two. In this episode we talk about Chester's arrest and trial and all of the aftermath of it all. There's honestly too much to talk about for the show notes so you'll just have to listen to find out what all happened. We want to know your thoughts, though. Send us an email or contact us on Facebook to tell us your thoughts!
Paige's week!Today Paige brings another true crime tale that hits a little too close to home. She talks about three friends-Lillian Oetting, Mildred Lindquist and Frances Murphy-who went on a little vacation to Starved Rock State Park in LaSalle County, Illinois who were murdered on their first hike, the day they arrived at the park. In Part 1, we only get as far as naming a suspect but you can already feel that this investigation is not up to par. Keep an eye out next week for Part 2!
Payton's week! This week is a strange one. This is the unsolved murder of Artemus Ogletree. This 1935 brutal murder happened at he Hotel President in Kansas City, Missouri. It's been over 80 years since his death, and while many have theories about what happened to Artemus, the truth remains a total mystery.

Payton's week! This week we discuss Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, KY.Waverly Hills Sanatorium served as a treatment facility for people with tuberculosis from 1910 until it closed in 1961. Afterwards it served as a long care facility for about 20 years. Now it is being renovated by its current owners and you can book a paranormal or historical tour of the building.https://www.therealwaverlyhills.com
Payton's week! This week we bring you Daniel LaPlante. He is most well known for harassing a man and his two daughters, which unfortunately overshadows the fact that he's actually a cold blooded murder. Pregnant with her third child, Priscilla Gustafson and her two young children, Abigail and William, were brutally murdered by Daniel in December of 1987.
Paige's week finally! Now that we're finally done with our podcasts first four parter-that we're still not ok about-Paige is bringing you an episode from the early stages of the internet and the beginning of the gaming chatroom. This is her earliest case to date! Get ready for a stupid love triangle that ends in a young man being killed right when his life was beginning.
Alright guys. It's the finale; we're finally here.Unfortunately the case is unsolved, like we said in the beginning, so no one has been brought to justice for the murders. In this episode, we discuss a few more scenarios by more interviews, the conclusion of Dr. Malak and Dan Harmon, and where this now 34 year old case is in 2021.
Payton's week!Continuing the story of Don Henry and Kevin Ives, we reveal the conclusion of the grand jury. We discuss other murders and talk about the difficulties the poor parents continue to have just trying to get answers.
Payton's week! We're continuing the case of Don Henry and Kevin Ives. In this episode we discuss the parents search of a second opinion, and when they finally got lawyers that would help their cause. Eventually a grand jury is able to begin a fact finding mission, and the "accidents" are finally ruled "homicides". The grand jury starts uncovering information that leads to arrests, but not on the boys' deaths, and we end the episode with another murder.
Payton's week!Don Henry and Kevin Ives were teenagers growing up in Alexander, Arkansas. But sadly these boys' bodies were hit by a train. From the moment the investigation starts, it becomes a conspiracy. Despite the strange circumstances at the scene the case is ruled an accident. In this episode we talk about the parents of these boys who had to jump through hoops to get straight answers from anyone regarding their sons' deaths.
Paige's week! This week Paige is bringing yet another episode that she hopes to be a series, this time she's talking Cryptids! She has already dipped her toes into the Cryptid pool once when she talked about Changelings but this time we are headed to Australia to see what they've come up with. We talk about three in particular; The Yara-ma-yha-who, the Drop Bear, and the Bunyip. If you're equal parts confused and intrigued, give it a listen to learn more!
Payton's week!We finally are finishing up with Dorothea Puente. We discuss all the excavation over that November weekend, and how they were able to catch her after she was able to fool police and go on the run. We go over the arguments of the trail, and finally the boarding house today.
Payton's week!Unfortunately life is crazy, so we're taking a trip in the other lane in between Dorothea Puente episodes.Payton's brings us an overview of the history on guillotines. The origins, the French Revolution, and the guillotine in the 20th century.
Payton's week!So sorry for the late upload, life has been crazy! This week, Payton brings Dorothea Puente to the table. Dorothea preyed on the elderly, mentally ill, and anyone having a difficult time or in a vulnerable situation. We discuss her early life, and the disappearances of many tenants who ended up being in her care at the horror show she called a “boarding house.”
Paige's week!We are back to the true crime this week with a first for us: a Black Widow. I think the name speaks for itself but if you've never heard the term describe someone, it means a woman who marries a man and ends up killing him for whatever reason. This one I'm bringing you this week is......a lot. You'll have to listen to know how crazy this story is and why some of this is technically unsolved. Make sure you keep up because you're in for a wild ride!
Payton's week! What we hope to be the first of a series, Payton is bringing you a couple of specific pet cemeteries. Just like you would a human loved one, you can inter your pets in a pet cemetery. Unlike Stephen King's book, these cemeteries are a place of unconditional love and loyalty. We talk about two specific pet cemeteries, along with The International Association of Pet Cemeteries & Crematories. We discuss the Hartsdale Pet Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York, and then we discuss the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park in Calabasas, California. The IAOPCC - https://www.iaopc.comHartsdale Pet Cemetery - https://petcem.comLos Angeles Pet Memorial Park - https://lapetcemetery.com
Paige's Week!Today Paige is bringing you the case of the unidentified man found on Somerton Beach in Adelaide, Australia. This case goes by many names: the Unknown Man, the Somerton Man, and the Tamám Shud case, to name a few. Whichever name you know it by, a man in a suit was found dead on Somerton Beach. Every piece of evidence that was discovered lead to more questions and theories as to who this man was, but unfortunately, he has never been identified and the case is still unsolved to this day. Time to wildly speculate!
Payton's Week! This week is a tough one. We discuss the murder and torture of Junko Furuta. She was a young girl with a lot of potential from Misato, Japan. Four boys from the area kidnapped her and held her captive for over 40 days, and it that time she suffered unimaginable horror. This case was on another level of evil, but because the crimes were perpetrated by juveniles, they were rewarded special previsions under the juvenile law. This along with other violent crimes committed by minors led to somewhat of a reform of the juvenile law.Check out our Patreon!https://www.patreon.com/2kawaypodcast
Paige's week! This week, we're taking you on a wild journey in covered wagons down the Oregon Trail!... sort of. Many people knows this as the horrific tail of settlers who got trapped and had to resort to cannibalism to survive, but Paige dives into the story further. What is now known as the infamous "Donner Party" made a series of not so great choices along the way and unfortunately ran into several men that clearly did not have their best interests at heart. The combination ended up creating a tragic domino effect that ended in murder, cannibalism, and many rescue parties.
Payton's Week! Our case today takes place in 1914 near Spring Green, Wisconsin. Taliesin, as the house was named by its architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, was built in 1911, and was site of the deadliest single killer mass murder in Wisconsins history. The home was built so he and his mistress, Mamah Borthwick, could live without judgmental eyes. One Saturday while Frank was away on business a man named Julain Carlton who worked for the couple, murdered 7 people in the home while simultaneously setting the building on fire. After Frank Lloyd Wright's death, the house was donated to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, and Taliesin remains open and you can take tours of it.https://www.taliesinpreservation.org
Last week for Son of Sam!Sorry for the late upload folks, life is crazy! This episode we go over the last two attacks and David's arrest. He doesn't want a trial and just pleads guilty but a little craziness ensues at his first try at sentencing. He's ultimately sentenced to life in prison for all the murders. But did he act alone? We kind of briefly cover the conspiracy as to the satanic cult that he was allegedly part of where he says he didn't act alone in all of the attacks. As always, the ones who lost their lives:Donna LauriaChristine FreundVirginia VoskerichianValentina SurianiAlexander EsauStacy Moskowitz
Another Paige week! We're coming at you with Part 2 of Son of Sam where we actually get in to more of the attacks in 1976 leading into 1977 and when the police actually start tying the cases together. We talk about how much David loves to write letters, not only to the police about his attacks, but also to the newspaper, his neighbors, and his old landlords. We don't get to all of the attacks in this episode so if you want to hear more, you'll have to check out Part 3 next week!
Paige's week! We're finally covering one of the big guys! This is Part 1 of David Berkowitz, aka Son of Sam. Paige talks about his early life leading up to the murders. We go through his uneventful Army career and how he went back home to New York and met his birth mother. This all to lead up to his first two failed murder attempts and the first murder. Check out Part 2 next week for the continuation of the Son of Sam saga!
Payton's week!In 1974, 19 year old Arlis Perry was brutally murdered at Stanford Memorial Church on the Stanford University Campus. While the police had suspects and theories, they weren't able to make any arrests because there wasn't enough evidence. Arlis's murder became a cold case, and while over the years there have been many theories, after 40 years of being unsolved police were able to link DNA to her killer. Of course one of the theories mentioned is the alleged Son of Sam link. Police were never able to definitively link the two, but the theory is still being discussed.
Paige's week!In this episode we learn about the unsolved, mysterious death of Christina Ketterwell who died at the end of her honeymoon. The crazy part? Both her new husband and his best friend were with her. Her entire family thought they spent an "unnatural" amount of time with the best friend. When the three of them end up at the friend's secluded cottage in Canada's Severn Falls that was only accessible by boat, everything goes wrong. The honeymoon ends with the cottage burning to the ground, the husband with a head injury and Christina's still unsolved death.
Payton's week, with our friend Nick as a special guest! This week we discuss sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is a state where a person is either waking up or falling asleep, where they are fully aware of the world around them, but they cannot move or speak. With these episodes, hallucinations may occur. We discuss what triggers episodes, and how there is no known cause or cure to it.Nick joins us to share his experience with sleep paralysis and what his triggers are.Throughout history, different cultures have experienced sleep paralysis episodes, and each of them have their own explanations for why it happens. And of course, we have to share some spooky sleep paralysis stories!
Paige's week! This week we're taking you way back to 1820's Scotland; where you could be executed for simply cutting down a tree. Even though this seems harsh, they totally made up for it with their ability to come up with cool names!... Not really. Paige goes into some history about the time period and defines certain terms, one of them being 'anatomy killers'. An anatomy killing is a murder committed in order to use that body for medical research, where typically the murderer will sell the body to a research facility. There have been many anatomy killers, but this episode we focus on two men who were probably the most well known for it. William Burke and William Hare killed 16 people over a period of 11 months in order to sell their bodies to an anatomist. Eventually these two men were caught, but you'll have to listen to hear their fates.
Sorry about the late upload guys, and heads up, it's a long one!In this finale of the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders, Payton finishes up this case by starting with one of Stewarts last attempts to hold someone captive at his ranch. We discuss Jessie Clarks visit and the events that transpired while she was in California. Ultimately it was Jessie's actions that drew attention towards the ranch, and once officers showed up at the ranch Stewart fled. We discuss the arrests and trials of Stewart and Louise, and all the aftermath that came from this case. Lastly, we discuss Sanford Clarks life after the ranch.
Payton's Week! This is a rough one guys. The Wineville Chicken Coup Murders were a series of abductions and murders in Los Angeles and Riverside County, CA between 1926 and 1928. Gordon Stewart Northcott was the main perpetrator, with help from his mother in certain cases. In part 1, we discuss early life for Stewart, his parents, and how he came to own land that he would turn into a small chicken ranch. He kidnapped his nephew, Sanford Clark, and took him back to his ranch in California where he physically and sexually abused Sanford for 2 years. Not only that but he had Sanford participate in the killings as well. This episode we discuss the known, and assumed victims of Stewart Northcott: the unidentified young man known as the "Headless Mexican", the assumed victims Walter Collins, and Lewis and Nelson Winslow. Stay tuned for part 2.
Paige's week! This week Paige discusses the folklore of changelings. Most commonly associated with Irish folklore, this creature has featured throughout European fables. Changeling refers to a fairy who has been left in place of a human adult or child who had been essentially kidnapped by the fairies. We discuss the motivations the fairies had to kidnap and what to do if you think a loved one has been replaced with a fairy. Lastly, we discuss 2 instances where fairies have been brought into true crime cases.
Payton's week!We discuss the 1981 unsolved quadruple homicide in Keddie, CA. Sue Sharp, her son Johnny Sharp, and his friend Dana Wingate were brutally murdered in cabin #28, but Sue's 2 youngest boys and their friend Justin who were in a bedroom unharmed, and her daughter Tina Sharp missing from the scene. It wasn't until 3 years later that Tina's remains were discovered almost 100 miles away in Butte County. It's a very gruesome case, with the initial investigation making no arrests. The cold case has been revived after 40 years without answers.New investigators are getting closer to possible arrests and answers. Anyone with information is asked to call the Plumas County Sheriff’s Department’s office at (530) 283-6360.Sheila Sharp continues to help police investigators with her family’s cold case.
Paige's week!Paige brings us the case of the Cleveland Torso Murders, known as the Cleveland Torso Murderer or the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run. Right smack dab in the middle of the Great Depression, police in Cleveland, Ohio, found 13 different dismembered bodies. Most of them are unidentified to this day. The investigation, or investigations, by two separate detectives concluded in different findings and suspects, with no official arrests. Many people think there were more victims of this serial killer, and many believe that these murders are not the result of a singular killer. It has been over 80 years since the last killing that was contributed to the Cleveland Torso Murderer.
Payton's week! This episode is kind of wild. We discuss Mitchell Sims and Ruby Padgett. They went on a crime spree for 3 weeks before getting caught in 1985. Mitch was a disgruntled former Domino's employee who decided to take his revenge by robbing two Domino's Pizza restaurants and ultimately murdered 3 men in the process. Ruby may or may not have been involved in the first robbery, but was definitely involved in the second. We discuss their sentencing and their time behind bars since then.
We pick up where we left off in part one at the last hospital that Charles worked at. We discuss the difficulties the investigators had with the investigation and how a badass nurse named Amy was integral in taking down this angel of death. There was a blanket plea over all counties and both states to where there was no trial, but Charles is spending the rest of his life behind bars.

Paige's week! Sorry in advance about the audio, we had some technical difficulties!Today Paige takes us on a journey around the world and talks about a little bit of nightmare fuel: dolls. It began with a man named Don Julian Santana Barrera, claiming that a little girls spirit haunted the island.Next we arrive in Japan in Nagoro Village, or better known as Nagoro Doll/Scarecrow Village, where a woman named Tsukimi Ayano has made many dolls in honor of the people of her community. We come back to the US to Key West, Florida. Here a museum is the current home of a cursed little guy by the name of Robert the Doll. Robert was giving to a little boy by the name of Eugene Robert Otto in the early 1900s by a servant with questionable motives. Then we end our journey on the East Coast to a badass woman named Frances Glessner Lee, who began the Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death with Harvard University.
