On June 23, 1965, police were called to do a welfare check on an elderly couple Fred and Edwina Rogers in their Texas home, and when police arrived to view the home, they found a chilling discovery. Edwina and Fred had been dismembered and placed onto the shelves in the icebox after being beaten. Edwina had been beaten and shot execution style while Fred was beaten with a claw hammer, his eyes gouged out and genitals mutilated. Evidence has pointed to their reclusive son who was 43 years old and living with them, as the murderer but he had fled and was never found. OG Release Date: 04/11/2020 Sources: Medium (2019, May 6). On June 23, 1965, police were called to do a welfare check on elderly couple Fred and Edwina Rogers in their Texas home, and when police arrived to view the home, they found a chilling discovery. Sources: Leigh, Cat. (2019, May 6). The Icebox Murders. And on today’s Dark enigma since this is a short week, I figured I would pull out some of the shorter stories I have and give you guys not only a quickie, but a two-for as well… hmm that doesn’t sound right, meh, you guys know what I mean. As always, we will be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation is up to you, so choose your venom accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say murder that will be a single shot and every time I say mystery, that’s a double shot. Ok, now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s double dark enigma… and the unbelievable IceBox murders of Houston Texas and today’s double feature the Mystery of room 1046… so let’s jump into the Icebox murders first. On June 23, 1965, the Houston Police Department in Texas received a call from Marvin Martin asking for a welfare check on his aunt and uncle. Fred Cristopher Rogers, 81, and Edwina Rogers, 79, had not been answering their phone. Two police officers knocked on the couple’s front door of their home in Montrose. There was no response so they ended up knocking the door down. There was no sign of the couple despite being food on the table. One of the officers noticed a strong odor coming from the fridge. He opened it and saw various cuts of meat, which he believed to be hog meat. The officer was shocked when he suddenly saw two heads in the fridge’s crisper.

A recent Pew Research poll shows that Americans express a (perhaps not so) surprising unhappiness at the prospect of an immediate family member marrying an atheist. Plus: The Secular Coalition of America has fired executive director Edwina Rogers, after just two years of service. Rogers has served under a cloud of controversy since her original appointment because of her previous years of service to Republican causes. Nonetheless, SCA has made great strides during Rogers' tenure. Let's hope they can find a suitable replacement soon. John and Allison go with Pastafarian-themed "prestige" car license plates. Encore release September 8, 2018. Encore release June 1, 2017.   We interview Staise Gonzalez, mover and shaker with Houston Atheists, about her recent (and thus far successful effort) to prevent Helen Ukpabio from visiting the United States. For those unfamiliar with Ukpabio, she is an infamous Nigerian preacher/filmmaker whose poisonous teaching about demon possession has led many children to be abandoned, abused--even murdered--by their families. To see just how nutty Ukpabio is, check out her film "End of the Wicked." Also...North Carolina preachers with an anti-gay agenda are in the news again. This time it's Pastor Charles Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, NC. Worley's Final Solution for "the lesbians and the queers" has gone viral on the web. Finally, we review the controversy surrounding one-time Republican lobbyist Edwina Rogers as the new executive director of the Secular Coalition for America. Rogers has gotten off to a rocky start with prominent freethought bloggers, mostly for her insistence that Republicans are NOT largely anti-choice, anti-gay and anti-seperation-of-church-and-state. Read and/or listen to her interview with Greta Christina for more. Meanwhile, videos from her Republican lobbying days, like this one in which she's shown living in an 18,000 square foot mansion and wrapping gifts in money, can't help.
