IN THIS EPISODE:FICTION: The short horror story “Come and Play” by Pablo DickensNON-FICTION: In May, 2017, another 7,000 unmarked graves were found on the campus of Mississippi Medical Center. But this gruesome discovery is only the beginning of the dark and twisted history of how the bodies got there. (The Land of 10,000 Unmarked Graves) *** Dark Watchers… they are mentioned in a number of ancient legends and are well-known in several US states. But who or what are they, and where do they come from? (Mysterious Dark Watchers) *** There is an ancient, superstitious and almost universal belief that certain people possess the supernatural power to cause disaster, illness, calamity and even death. They have an ability to do it with a gaze or stare – what we've come to know as the evil eye. (The Curse of The Evil Eye) *** Mysterious, loud booming noises have been heard all over the country without explanation. But now it has become even creepier, as some men in black have been poking around asking questions and interviewing witnesses. (Men In Black and Unexplained Booms) *** A convicted murderer and suspected serial killer lurks in the frames of the horror classic, The Exorcist. (The Real Life Killer Who Appeared In The Exorcist) *** A mysterious old man shows up at the scene of two auto accidents – twenty years apart! (My Guardian Angel) *** The older citizens in Durango, Mexico tell of a frightening entity known as the La Ilorona. (La Ilorona) *** A woman tells of seeing a dead relative on her way out to do her weekly grocery shopping. (Doppelganger, Ghost, or Imagination?) *** Drenched in sun and perched above the glistening water of Tampa Bay, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge doesn't look haunted. However, appearances can be deceiving. (Tampa's Haunted Sunshine Skyway Bridge) *** The rapid decline of traffic on Route 66 sounded the death knell for hundreds of businesses – including Diamonds Restaurant. But that hasn't stopped the undead from continuing to frequent the place. (Ghosts of Diamonds Restaurant) *** Die without being married and you could be doomed to haunt the world forever – at least according to an ancient Chinese custom. And thus, “ghost weddings” became a reality. (Ghost Marriage) *** What was intended as a romantic getaway under the stars turned into a frightful getaway from a horrible sound. (Unnatural Sound On Mt. Saint Helens) *** A string of murders in Wineville, California caused the town to change its name – and inspired an Angelina Jolie movie. Episode 245: Between 1926 and 1928, a sinister darkness was afoot on a small chicken ranch in Wineville, California. When he was only 19, Gordon Stewart Northcott, a Canadian, had abducted, raped, tortured and murdered at least three and as many as 20 others. His victims were predominantly prepubescent boys. He sexually assaulted and released numerous others. When a portion of the truth came out, much of it was told by Northcott's nephew, 13-year-old Sanford Clark. Northcott had brought Sanford with him from Canada two years before. Northcott viciously raped and beat Clark numerous times before tiring of him as he aged. Afterward, through fear and intimidation, Northcott coerced his nephew into assisting him in committing and covering up the murders of his victims. Even Northcott's mother, Sarah Louise Northcott, helped in some of the crimes to keep her son out of jail. The southern California town certainly existed, although it abruptly “vanished” in 1930 and was replaced suddenly by Mira Loma. Crimes so heinous that the townspeople couldn't bear to be associated with “Wineville” any longer.

Happy 2022! We are starting the New Year off by talking about the story that inspired the 2008 movie, Changeling, an absolutely incompetent police department, reasons you could involuntarily commit women to psych wards in the 1920's, and also an evil psychopathic young man who abused and murdered young boys on his farm. Hannah teaches Katy that all 8-12 year old boys look generally the same, and that the only reliable source on who they are is a handwriting expert and the Illinois school system. And Katy teaches Hannah when the FBI was invented and whether or not kidnapping is a federal crime (spoiler alert: not the 1940's, and we actually never looked it up.) It's a doozy, and takes a ton of twists and turns, but hang in there! There are plenty of drinking game opportunities in this one, whether you're drinking wine (Hannah), bubbly water (Katy), or anything in between!Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wineville_Chicken_Coop_murders#Lewis_and_Nelson_Winslowhttps://allthatsinteresting.com/christine-collinshttps://www.crimemuseum.org/crime-library/serial-killers/wineville-chicken-coop-murders/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Stewart_Northcotthttps://murderpedia.org/male.N/n/northcott-gordon.htm
If you try to locate a town called Wineville on a map, it looks like such a place does not exist. However, if you look closer, you may spot two streets, Wineville Avenue and South Wineville Avenue, in Jurupa Valley, Riverside County. Nothing else is left of the southern California town where something so horrifying happened in the 1920s that it caused the small farming community to change the name of their hometown. Which was a smart thing to do because nowadays, "Wineville" is basically a synonym for serial killer Gordon Northcott and his heinous crimes. https://linktr.ee/10minutemurder Facebook: https://facebook.com/10MMpodcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/10minutemurder/ Tiktok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMRBEFtUg/ Youtube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCkJLUCEZlkn9In3AA46RVxw Twitter: https://twitter.com/10minutemurder Submit future episode story ideas: 10minutemurder@gmail.com

TThis week Erika covers the story of the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders. In 1926, Gordon Stewart Northcott, murdered 4 young boys with some help from his mother Sarah, and his young nephew Sanford. Sanford. The nephew was forced to partake of the disposing of the victims. 3 of the young boys were buried in a chicken coop, on their chicken ranch in Wineville, CA, while the 4th victim was killed and disposed of elsewhere. The victims were Walter Collins, Lewis and Nelson Winslow and Alvin Gothea. There is even a side story regarding Walter Collins, where a runaway tried to claim to be the missing boy, but was found to be a fraud. This week's case is more like three cases in one, fiends. In 1928, Los Angeles county experienced a chilling string of disappearances. On March 10th,10 year old Walter Collins had gone to the movies with his friends and never came home. Then on May 16th the Winslow brothers aged then and twelve attended a meeting of their model boat club, they too never came home. Arriving on the heels of the grisly murder of Marion Parker, a ten year old local girl, these events sent the people of Los Angeles into a panic, but the disappearances would pale in comparison to what actually became of those poor boys. What was once thought to be high profile kidnappings turned out to be a back woods nightmare at the hands of a man named Gordon Stewart Northcross. If that isn't enough for you, the strange story of Walter Collins takes us on a wild ride into identity theft and a some of the most corrupt police work we've seen so far. Don't believe us? The story is SO wild it served as the basis for the 2008 Clint Eastwood movie: The Changeling. Hang on to your hats this week fiends, it's going to be an old timey bumpy ride! Today we're covering the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders which were committed by Gordon Stewart Norhtcott and the Nephew he made an unwilling accomplice, Sanford Clark.
*EXPLICIT CONTENT WARNING* *SENSITIVE CONTENT WARNING* We don't cover serial killers. I know. But we made an exception for this case because of the sub-plot. And I call it the sub-plot because this story is so unbelievable I'm still not entirely convinced it's not just a movie based on a fever dream. Episode 11Release Date: 4th July 2021.These are the accounts of what happened in the town of Wineville, California in the late 1920s, when Gordon Northcott abducted and murdered several young boys, one of which was made into a Clint Eastwood movie starring Angelina Jolie, called Changeling.Don't forget to subscribe to our podcast on your favourite platform and you can follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wherethemonstersarepodcast/ on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WhereMonsters and on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/supersleuthsandspookykids
The Wineville Chicken Coop Murders are notorious for more than one reason, but the connections might surprise you. The Vampire of Sacramento was a short-lived serial killer whose reasons for murder are tinfoil hat appropriate. We discuss both on this episode.
Gordon Stewart Northcott was not a nice man, who murdered at least 3 boys at his ranch in Wineville, California. The murders themselves are not the strangest part of the story, however. Delve into a tale of murder, missing children and mistaken identity as we discuss the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders.
In the late 1920's a area of California became noticed & not for a good way. Gordan Northccott owned a chicken coop in Wineville CA where he not only ranched chickens there. The murder of 4 boys and the confession of another lead to Gordan Northcott of be arrested & hung.
In Sunny California, in the neighborhood of Wineville, horrors at a chicken would be brought to light. Listen to this episode to hear everything that happened in Sarah's hometown.
