Als die 19-jährige Arlis im Oktober 1974 spätabends die Kirche betritt, ahnt sie nicht, dass dies ihre letzte Nacht sein wird. What characteristics make a person trustworthy? Under what circumstances would a person delegate life or death decisions to artificial intelligence (AI)? Does it matter that AI systems reflect trustworthy humans' decision-making preferences, morals, and ethics? If so, what characteristics are most important? These are some of the fundamental questions DARPA researchers are exploring for the In the Moment (ITM) program, which aims to support the development of algorithms that are trusted to independently make decisions in difficult domains, particularly in significant trauma events such as battlefield triage.DARPA's research has identified the need for fundamentally different approaches to advance AI technology to a place where we're willing to trust it and not be foolish to do so. Continuing themes from our mini-series on ELSI – ethical, legal, and societal implications of new technologies and capabilities – we meet with DARPA's ITM program manager, Dr. Patrick Shafto, and the ITM performers and ELSI advisors, who break down how they're tackling the fundamental question of alignment in the context of human decision-makers and autonomous decision-making tools. In case you missed them, check out our previous ELSI series episodes at the following links:Episode 79: Integrating ELSIEpisode 78: Introducing ELSIOur special thanks to the following ITM performers and advisors for their contributions to this episode (in order of their appearance):· Alice Leung, RTX BBN· Joseph Cohn, SoarTech· Matthew Molineaux, Parallax Advanced Research· Arslan Basharat, Kitware Inc.· Jennifer McVay, CACI· Dave Cotting, Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA)· Sarah Daly, IDA· Lauren Diaz, University of Maryland Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS)· Ellie Tyler, ARLIS

LOVE AND MARRIAGE, THE FOUNDATION OF THE NATION Happy anniversary, Dr. George and Arlis, number 56. How did the number get so high so quickly? It seems like only yesterday, as they say, that this all started. Many of you have heard my favorite story of how the Lord led me to meet my darling wife. A small church in a remote town on the coast of Washington state. Sunday dinner and a picture on the mantle turned my life around and set me on the course of 56 years of joyful marriage. As you know, if you've been married for a season, some of that joy has to be acted out by faith when you go through struggles and adjustments. Put the investments you give to a marriage more than compensate for the rewards that come back to you over your lifetime. God said it is not good for a man to be alone oh how true that is. Love and marriage is the foundation of a nation. Because God-centered families are based on the commitment of a husband and a wife to each other, children who obey their parents strengthen their communities and their nation. Ephesians 5:21, the apostle Paul tells us, out of our reverence for Christ, to be supportive of each other in love. Thank you, Jesus, for loving families because of the love a man and a wife have for each other. YOU CAN GIVE HERE: http://www.georgewatkinsministries.co... YOU ARE AS CLOSE TO THE FATHER AS YOU WANT TO BE In the early days of our evangelistic travels, Arlis and I found ourselves on the East Coast of this great country. With a few days between commitments, we joined two of our best friends and headed for the Big Apple. New York City. Times Square. The Statue of Liberty. The Empire State Building. New York pizza. And at the end of the day, Broadway and the hit show Evita. What a whirlwind day that was, so much so it's still clear in my memory. As we stood in line at the ticket booth, I realized our limited finances as gospel ministers required us to purchase the ticket on the top balcony. As we were ascending the levels of balconies, I knew now why they called it the "nosebleed section." My eyes were younger then, but I still couldn't recognize the faces I was looking at on the stage below me. The sad point of this whole story is I wanted to be closer to the performers, but I couldn't afford the ticket. The good news is that the ticket has already been paid for you to come as close as you want to your heavenly Father's throne and fellowship with him daily. The Scriptures tell us that Jesus made a way where they had not been a way before. Men and women before the cross could not boldly come before the throne of God like Paul declares we can do. Only after the resurrection could Jesus tell his disciples to ask largely from the Father, in the name of Jesus, and they would receive what they asked for. There are no excuses not to be as close as you want to be to the Father of all spirits and the Savior Jesus Christ. After all, in Matthew 7:7, Jesus said, "Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you seek and keep on seeking, and you will find knock, and keep on knocking at the door will be open for you." Don't let anyone discourage you from having a private personal relationship with the Father, so wonderfully intense and sweet that you won't have words to express the joy of it all. No one is in front of you; go on in. You're next in line. YOU CAN GIVE HERE: http://www.georgewatkinsministries.co... WEBSITE= http://www.georgewatkinsministries.co... FRESH BREAD EVERY MORNING The scent of fresh, glazed donuts wafts through the windows of our church on Sunday morning. Suddenly, I was hungry for one of those beautiful creations. Hurry up, get through with your sermon, Dad, I thought as I visualized one of those sticky, sweet, luscious glaze donuts in my hand. As far as I was concerned, church couldn't get over soon enough. All these years later, I can still see that donut shop across the street from the church and smell those fresh morsels of goodness they produce every morning. My buddy and I would stand outside the open door and watch them bake and dip those donuts, just hoping they would have pity on us and give us one. The moment the spirit of God dropped that thought in my heart today about fresh bread every morning, I was instantly taken back to Long Beach, California, at 1800 E. Anaheim. And that wonderful donut shop. Three decades later, Arlis and I and our little boy Tony were in Wilmington, California, on a tremendous pastoral team led by my uncle Herbert Ezell. At the time, he was at the unimaginable age of 60 with a team of young pastors in their 20s and 30s. Pastor Ezell had a hectic schedule, yet He was faithful to be at the church every morning somewhere around 6 o'clock for prayer. It frustrated us young stallions that we couldn't get ahead of him in those early morning sessions. He always got there first. One day, I asked him how he managed to stay so energized with all the things he was involved in. He gave me a spiritual nugget I had carried most of my life when he "said daily freshness, George daily freshness." I believe there's a reason why God gave us 24 hours a day. It provides us with an opportunity to start fresh and new every morning. The Scriptures tell us that the presence of God and the grace of God are new every morning, also. Sometime later, my apostle and friend Norman Clear told me he stayed in the bedroom on Monday morning after a busy Sunday until his spirit was renewed in the presence of the Lord. I encourage you to have fresh bread every morning. YOU CAN GIVE HERE: http://www.georgewatkinsministries.co... WEBSITE= http://www.georgewatkinsministries.co... In this episode, Chris Blair sat down with long time friend Arlis Albritton. Arlis is originally from Florida and has had a lot of success as as songwriter himself, writing songs for Diamond Rio, Jamey Johnson, Luke Bryan, Parmalee, Josh Thompson, Keith Anderson, Halfway to Hazard, John Michael Montgomery and many more. Outside of songwriting, he has also been on the management side of the music industry managing acts like Jamey Johnson and Kenny G along with founding and running the St. Augustine Songwriters Festival. Chris sat down with Arlis in St. Augustine at the end of September where Chris hosts the main stage every year. They talked about what all it takes behind the scenes to start and grow a festival, stories about being on the road as a manger and more. It was great to hear a little about songwriting but more on some other areas of the industry that we don't always get to see or talk about. We hope you enjoy this episode and continue to spread the word about the Stories Behind the Songs Podcast! WHY I DON'T READ THE BIBLE ANYMORE "I know this must come as a shock to you, seeing that I am Mr. Average Christians in America. First of all, I have already read the Bible, so what's new? Secondly, listening to my favorite preacher online gives me all the words I need. And, after all, it is hard to understand. One of my friends in the small group reminded me the other day that it is all about dead people, so what's the point? However, on the positive side, I plan to start rereading it around Christmas sometime." A few days ago, I was home alone while Arlis visited our son in another city. I took advantage of the time and reviewed some of my notes, preparing for today's video. It wasn't quite lunchtime, so I pulled out the apple fritter I purchased at the grocery store on the way home. Of course, I had to have some coffee with that, then I found the wheat thins that were left over from yesterday, so I nibbled on some of those. But this time, I was hankering for an ice cream slice, so down the Hatch that went also. It wasn't long before I noticed it was just about lunchtime, but by now, I wasn't hungry, so I kept going through my paperwork. After all, there are some cookies in the cupboard I could get. I heard the other day from a doctor on the Internet. That sugar is just about as addictive as heroin. I don't know about the heroin part, but I sure know about the sugar part. I can wake up in the morning and dream of having my ice cream slice in the evening. No matter how you look at that, it's just plain wrong. When we go to church and get entertainment for the soul instead of food for the spirit, it becomes addictive. When we feed the soul snack food, such as good fellowship around good food and baseball games, it gets addictive. Of course, I am aware and even in agreement that all of these things are wonderful, fun, and good for us, but when they replace our spiritual food, such as the word of God and the moving of the Holy Spirit, we miss the point. If you feed yourself on "the ice cream slices of life" instead of the good word of God, you also will stop reading the Bible because you have satisfied your soul but not your spirit. Feed your spirit the good word of God regularly, and you will become the man and woman you have desired to be since you were converted. YOU CAN GIVE HERE=http://www.georgewatkinsministries.co... STAY IN YOUR LANE AND DO WELL I am sure you have heard this statement before, "a jack of all trades and an expert at none." That's the world's view of people who fly from job to job like a butterfly in the springtime, somewhat like the five-year-old that wants to be a fireman, policeman, and astronaut all in one week. Only now, that five-year-old is 40 years old and still trying to find himself. I was coming home with Arlis last night from the store, and while navigating a turn with cars on each side of me, the spirit dropped this thought in my heart. Stay in your lane George, and you will do well. I closely watched the white lane on each side of me and trusted it to keep me safe from the moving metal on each side of the car. I had confidence as long as I stayed in my lane, I would be fine. Of course, the spirit of God had more to say about it than just getting home safely. He was talking to me about the path of life we take and the gifts he has given us to fulfill. Some of us want to do so many things at once in the kingdom of God that we don't get much done. Why would that be? Most often, the gift that God gave us that we should be exercising in so that it would grow is not as glamorous as somebody else's gift next to us. So we say to our self I'm going to do that for a while, but it never seems to come to a good conclusion. The apostle Paul said that when we come together, one has a tongue, another has a prayer, and then someone else has a teaching. And when it's all mixed together, it brings the glory of God and the revelation of Jesus Christ to the people around us. Every one of us has been challenged to stay in our lane until we are strengthened and developed. I wanted to be like Oral Roberts, but God had other ideas. Just like you, it took time for me to find myself and be happy, as they say, in my skin. I encourage you today to stay in the lane God has put you in, and you watch, prosperity will come, and you will excel in it. What is the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS)? What does ARLIS do? Are we at a disadvantage when it comes to informational security? How do we defend against information operations? Join Dr. Lewis and Professor Austin Branch, University of Maryland, in this riveting discussion over how we can prepare to defend against the future of information warfare.
THE THESIS: The capture of the institutions in the United States is at a crisis point. People who, from any objective standard, have no business anywhere near our military or intelligence services are playing central roles. Some are using our money and their training and tools in hacking societies to meddle in American politics, which is the precursor to American elections. THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: No one knows the day or hour of the return of Lord Jesus. Every generation believes they live in the “end times.” I am not saying we live in that era, but the corruption globally--and, now, in America--are at epically broad and perverse levels. And wars--as the Bible speaks or increased wars--are being waged against citizens by their governments. 3 Specific Things That Point to the End TimesTHE NEWS & COMMENT:The great Chris Bray researched a woman--a PhD named Caroline Orr--who helps run a US military funded group that specializes in “cognitive security”, keeping people's minds safe. If she truly has that expertise, that would mean she also knows how to get into people's minds. She either suffers from a bizarre case of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) or she is really ba at getting into the minds of people who are “not wise in their own minds”, who “trust God and shun evil.” Chris's first piece on her . . . wait until you see part two. [VIDEO] - Like Adolf Hitler, Donald Trump Drinks BeveragesSo, Caroline Orr's concern about Trump's rallies are he repeats himself on stage and, he holds rallies! This woman is unbothered by rallies from Barack Hussein Obama who constantly repeated himself and who appeared to stage fainting people into his speeches: [VIDEO] - This seems normal: people supposedly fainting at Obama's speeches[VIDEO] - The original Dear Leader song about ObamaCaroline Orr was not concerned about kids singing Obama songs, Dear Leader style. [VIDEO] - Obama song by kids with North Korea remixWhy was this PhD, who works for a group that gets military moneys to effect “cognitive security” not worried about the attempted deification of Barack Hussein Obama? Was it because she employs a strict, professional, laissez-faire, hands-off stance on the choices Americans make in elections? Nope. Caroline Orr loves Antifa. No, she doesn't just accept the terrorists, she writes pieces defending a group that has committed at least two cold-blooded, political murders in American cities, Portland and Denver and that has attempted to kill cops all around America. This woman, this expert in hacking people's minds, this woman who gets your tax money from your military and intelligence communities is a fan of a group that expressly desires the overthrow our the US system and the installation of a Maoist regime. WANT TO GO HIGHER, CHANGE FLIGHT RULES It was 1974, and Southern California was ablaze with the fresh wind of the charismatic movement blowing through its churches. By an act of the Holy Ghost, I was on pastoral staff with eight other young zealots, anxious to be involved in what God was doing. Arlis and I were experiencing things we had never seen before in church life. Every day seems to be new and full of adventures. It was a major pivotal point in our progress following the father into the supernatural. Just after we arrived, we heard that our senior pastor was taking flying lessons and was going to buy a church airplane. About that time, we were invited into Baja California, that strip of Mexico south of the border. Our team piled into about half a dozen small airplanes to get there, and off we went ministering in the great Catholic cathedral in Hermosillo. Well, that trip sealed it for us young guys; we were determined to become pilots so we could fly our own planes. So off to flight school we went. Two or three nights a week, we poured over the books and listened to the lectures until that day of graduation. Then it was time to climb into the airplane with an instructor and practice our skills. I learned a lot in those days about flying an airplane, but the most important thing I learned was that everything has a rule. If you break the rule, you get in trouble quickly. I learned right away that I was flying VFR; to my disappointment, it would be some time with more practice and training before I could fly IFR. VFR means visual flight rules. IFR means instrument flight rules. I was bound to visible flight rules, which meant I had to be able to see the ground at all times. That meant I could never fly above the clouds and was limited in where I could go. By now, you probably see the point that I'm coming to. If you're ever going to fly higher with God, you have to graduate from what you see to what you believe. When flying by instrument flight rules, you must trust your instruments to be accurate and that they will take you through the dark of night to your destinations. So it is with our walk with the father; trust in the lord with all your heart, lean not unto your own understanding in all of your ways, acknowledge him, and he will direct your path. Now that's flying by heaven's instrument flight rules. OH, FOR THE FAITH OF A COOK Some time ago, I was meditating upon my life as it has unfolded over the years. As I did, I began to realize the importance of cooks in my life because my life would have been a lot different without them. Then I began to collect the names and faces of the most important cooks that had helped this old boy stay alive so long. Of course, I started with the main cook in my young life, my mother. We had a very unconventional lifestyle as a traveling Pentecostal preacher family. Because of that, mother learned how to produce meals for her family on all sorts of cookstoves and campfires. I still remember the warm kitchen in Yakima because of the wood cookstove where there was always a coffee pot for dad and a pot of soup for the rest of us. It seems I spent a fair amount of my young life going somewhere in an automobile. Those days we carried our food in a small cooler and camped out at night along the road somewhere. And when it was lunchtime, almost magically, a sandwich would be passed over from the front seat where mom was putting lunch together as we traveled along. I never thought much about where the food came from, but just as long as mother was around, I knew we would have something to eat. However, the most essential cook in my life has been my wife, Arlis, who has kept me alive for 54 years. She never met a soup she couldn't change. Of course, I should get some credit for her skills because I have been the test case for most of her cooking in the early days. But I never complained because I was in love. And as the scripture says, love covers a multitude of burnt food. Currently, she's on a quest to discover the best banana bread ever. And her grandkids are cheering her on as she does. I watched her baking yesterday, and she showed me the record of all the banana bread she baked this year. She had noted all the ingredients and the changes she made to the flavor of each one. As I listened to her explain her next strategy, I was hit with this thought; oh, that we might have the faith of a cook. If you and I applied the scriptures with the same faith that a cook has when they put a cup of sugar or flour into the mix, knowing it will change something for the better. The great cooks in our life have total confidence in their ingredients, and when they apply them, the results will be the same every time. Now that's the kind of faith I can follow.
