Akshansh and Amey are old friends who get bored a lot. And in an attempt to stave off this boredom, they consume a lot of content. Be it movies, TV shows, music, video games or sports. After years of planning and laziness, they've finally decided to put their heads together and birth this podcast out of their brains! Tune in for some chill vibes, conversations with friends, and general hot (and sometimes cold) takes on pop culture of all kinds.
Full disclosure - this was recorded at the end of August, 2022. Our last session from last year. Both Amey and Jeremy Allen White were in the peak of their short-king North American summer vibes during this period. As indicated in the audio, Akshansh planned to release this post-2022 summer as a challenge, so we are not too far off, lol. Have fun with this one, folks - our special friend Sidhant Saraogi joins us from Washington, D.C. Here's to more delicious food, pals, fam and that "perfect mouthfeel" to kick start the next slate of releases!
a24 - the production house behind aloof, yet cool, portrayals of animal characters, and which has provided indie kids like us a new lease on life - hit the jackpot this summer with their highest grossing film of all time: Everything Everywhere All At Once. In this episode, we discuss what made the movie resonate with the audiences, the myth of Raccacoonie, the infamous Everything Bagel and why the film may or may not be snubbed come awards-season. Settle in with with your favorite Trader Joe's kombucha, as Akshansh and Amey go Verse-Jumping!
This is the second and final episode picked from the vault. Recorded towards the end of 2021, THIS EPISODE HAS EVERYTHING. We have cute snores in the background, we have a rude interruption from Siri, we have the multiverse and engaging characters therein, we have statistics (yes you heard it right, MATH is in the goddamn house!), and most importantly, we have the power of friendship. Strap in, it's going to be a fun ride.
HIGHWAY TO THE DANGER ZONE! We are joined by a very special guest, the human who named our podcast adventure - the one and only, Nandita Jacob. In this episode, we talk about one of the best films of the year, and potentially one of the best in the last couple of years - TOP GUN: MAVERICK. A premium movie outing, this one deserves to be viewed on the big screen, with a big bucket of popcorn and a sizzling, chilled tumbler of Coke. We discuss the stars, the story, the dog-fights, the homo-eroticism, the abs, the stache, and the ROOSTER-HANGMAN-MAVERICK of it all... let's turn and burn!
MAYHEM! Amey holds Akshansh at gunpoint to vent about the weird meme phenomena happening around Morbius, or "A New Marvel Legend" as the marketing material describes him. This one is a quickie!
A new episode in which Amey officially welcomes Akshansh into the slightly shady club of gamers. Some shameful albeit honest admissions are made. Then we talk about two of the most stunning and rich open-worlds in recent memory, Elden Ring and Ghost of Tsushima. We also talk about difficulty in games, the underlying sense of achievement on mastering a new challenge and also try to convince the other co-host to play Elden Ring/Ghosts of Tsushima with an elevator pitch. This one is quite different from our usual content, and definitely not one you want to miss!Â
Well, this is one of the two episodes from the vault. We recorded this towards the end of 2021, a year when things were still kinda ok and we did not have a potential existential catastrophe of nuclear proportions on our hands. We discuss the cool and aloof hit from Apple TV+ : Mythic Quest. Also on the menu is a take on the blockbuster DUNE. Grab some tea/coffee/G&T and kick it with us!
Akshansh and Amey talk about two of their horror-comedy favorites, BBC cult-hit Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, and FX hit What We Do In The Shadows! both featuring actor/comedian/musician Matt Berry.
In this episode, we revisit one of our all time favorite mockumentary-style sitcoms, NBC's Parks and Recreation. We talk about what makes the show so special, some of the iconic characters, and some of the best moments in the show. And of course, there's a chunk of the episode dedicated to the many infinitely quotable lines from the show. So strap in, and treat yo'self!
We're back! (Well, sort of) This episode is all about us discussing what we've been up to during our season break, what we've been consuming, and what we're most looking forward to. Finally, we tease some details about season 2, and talk about the "exciting things" we've been teasing.
Special thanks to everyone who made this first season possible with their continuous support and for being a part of our A/B testing, including (but not limited to) Nandita, Aditi, Praveen, Nitish, Adhyatma, Varsha, Varshini (and many others). We will be back with more content soon... exciting things coming up!
The season is bookended with a discussion on the works of writer, director, comedian, musician, author and multi-hyphenate Bo Burnham. We discuss the comedy specials, his directorial debut "Eighth Grade", his show "Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous" and his role in Oscar-winning film "Promising Young Woman." If you, like us, have been bitten by the Bo bug, you won't want to miss this! P.S. : You can stream 3 of his comedy specials (what., Make Happy and INSIDE) on Netflix!
In this episode, Akshansh and Amey fangirl over HBO's recent smash-hit "Succession", which is part satirical comedy and part character drama. The show's exciting characters, pithy improvised dialogue, real-life inspirations as well as themes of privilege, success, pressure, and paranoia are discussed. Check it out!
In this episode, we discuss some hotly-debated football topics like - "Timo Werner : Hero or Menace?" and "The European Super League Saga aka C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me)". The scary prospect of Manchester City (finally) becoming European Champions is also touched upon. There is an unexpected but much-appreciated guest appearance from a friendly neighborhood cat, Mboopie!
Akshansh Vs. Amey, Godzilla Vs. Kong and Zack Snyder Vs. Warner Bros. Executives. An ode to monster films, opposable thumbs, and fan movements to restore the auteur's artistic vision (which contained a helluva lot of slow motion).
We discuss the Canadian sleeper hit "Schitt's Creek" : a show that nobody knew about until suddenly everybody was talking about it, the comedy legends behind the show and the national treasure that is Daniel Levy (Toronto represent!). There is also a dramatic, Charles Dance-style reading of "A Little Bit Alexis" - a song for the ages. It's a can't-miss episode for our fellow Schittheads (sorry). If you want to enjoy Alexis' hit pop song in its full glory, you can do so here : https://spoti.fi/3dF2hh9.
In the last couple of weeks, Amey finally caught up with something all his friends have been telling him about : New Girl. We discuss the satisfying character arcs, off-the-cuff dialogue, heavy improvisation and overall thoughts on a hang-out-with-your-friends, chill-vibes, and hilarious show that some (read : us on this podcast) have described as the F.R.I.E.N.D.S of this generation. You don't want to miss this one!
On this week's episode, we discuss Portrait of a Lady on Fire : Celine Sciamma's critically acclaimed masterpiece, the Bechdel Test, and the male gaze ruining otherwise wholesome and normal ideas. Lastly, we briefly examine the changing landscape of the Academy Awards with a look at the 2020 Oscar nominations. PS : As of 4/2/2021, you can catch Portrait of a Lady on Fire on Hulu!
We are back after a brief hiatus and the MCU is back after a long hiatus! In this episode, we talk about the Ship of Theseus, Superhero fatigue and the cutesy, suburban life of everyone's favorite vibranium synthezoid, Vision, with Wanda Maximoff and about how we finally get the Scarlet Witch name drop that we've been waiting for since Avengers : Age of Ultron.
We discuss Dark Souls, WW84 and the Premier League table as it stood on 1/19/2021. Some important takeaways : 1. Amey rants about WW84. 2. Akshansh makes fun of serious Canadian "money" (or lack thereof). 3. Third-wheeling Praveen Akella (our special guest for the episode) regales us with his edgy, rebellious persona. Tune in with a drink, alcoholic or otherwise! If you enjoyed Kristen Wiig in WW84, you should definitely check this out (among her other notable SNL performances): https://youtu.be/dCer2e0t8r8
In this episode, we discuss the Apple TV+ sleeper hit Ted Lasso and the feel-good, inclusive Christmas Special from Hulu - Happiest Season. To add some dark chocolate in this vanilla mix, we discuss Ryu Murakami's In The Miso Soup - a story about a potential American killer on the loose in Japan. Finally, we share our thoughts on Spotify 2020 Wrapped and our self-destructive music consumption habits.
