As AI advances at an exponential pace, what could the Singularity mean for India's workforce, middle class, and investors? Saurabh joins Nandita to discuss what it could mean for India's workforce, middle class, and investors—and why financial resilience matters more than ever.Get your free goal planning and asset allocation https://shorturl.at/aOsyjIn this episode of Coffee and Investing, Marcellus' CIO Saurabh Mukherjea joins Nandita Rajhansa to discuss Ray Kurzweil's famous Singularity thesis and its implications for India. As artificial intelligence advances at an unprecedented rate, the conversation explores whether exponential improvements in machine intelligence could reshape jobs, wages, inequality, and investment outcomes over the coming decade.
In this episode of the AI Agent & Copilot Podcast, Giuseppe Ianni, podcast host and industry interviewer, is joined for a second time by Nandita Puri, PhD Researcher at Georgia Tech working at the intersection of bioinformatics and biochemistry. The conversation explores how AI is transforming drug discovery, accelerating hypothesis generation, reducing experimental costs, improving success rates, enabling rare disease research, and paving the way for virtual cell simulation. Key Takeaways AI Is Creating a New Drug Discovery Workflow: Puri describes a major transition from traditional laboratory-first research toward a hybrid approach combining computational and experimental science. Researchers can now use AI, machine learning, and pattern recognition to analyze massive biological datasets before conducting expensive laboratory work. According to Puri, "I see a healthy combination of 50% dry lab and wet-lab validation becoming the emerging standard." This shift allows scientists to move beyond manual analysis and leverage computational intelligence to generate stronger hypotheses, identify promising targets faster, and focus laboratory resources on the most promising opportunities. Higher Success Rates Mean Lower Costs and Less Waste: One of the most immediate benefits of AI in drug discovery is improved experimental efficiency. Puri notes that individual experiments can cost "$10,000-$12,000" and historically have carried significant failure risk. By consolidating fragmented datasets and identifying meaningful biological signals, AI helps researchers prioritize stronger hypotheses before entering the laboratory. Puri explained that some AI-assisted binder-development efforts achieved "40% 50% of success rate," compared with previous rates of "10% 5%." These improvements reduce wasted resources, shorten research timelines, and allow scientific teams to evaluate more potential treatments with the same budget. AI Is Unlocking Opportunities for Rare Disease Research: Rare diseases have historically faced funding and development challenges due to limited patient populations and expensive clinical validation requirements. Puri explains that AI is helping overcome these barriers by generating synthetic datasets, identifying hidden biological relationships, and revealing common signaling pathways between diseases. She notes that "AI is really, really helping rare disease industry to go forward." Visit Cloud Wars for more.
Kate and Kristin speak all about crowdfunding with Nandita Godbole, who has fully funded seven books (and counting) through Kickstarter. Nandita shares how it all began, from her wildly successful supper club to funding her first book in just a few days and takes us through the details, ups and downs and pros and cons of going this route. She speaks about finding her audience, why she decided to self-publish, how she learned the technical specs and what the driving mission behind her projects is. This approach takes an immense amount of work for quality control, design choices and even hands-on mailing, and Nandita's persistence and perseverance has gotten her through stolen laptops, co-opted ideas and immense challenges. She leaves us with lovely and sage advice for others curious about crowdfunding and gives us a little peek into what's next. In this episode of the AI Agent & Copilot Podcast, Giuseppe Ianni, AI Practice Lead and industry thought leader, is joined by Nandita Puri, PhD Candidate at Georgia Tech and founder of Illumia.bio. Puri discusses how AI is transforming drug discovery by creating massive therapeutic libraries, connecting fragmented biomedical knowledge, and dramatically accelerating research timelines. Their conversation explores the convergence of AI, structural biology, and life sciences. Key Takeaways AI Expands the Search Space for New Therapeutics: Traditional drug discovery focuses on identifying a single drug for a single target, but Puri argues that diseases are complex biological systems requiring broader approaches. Her team is building an AI-generated library of more than 10 billion molecules across multiple therapeutic modalities. By treating drug discovery as a combinatorics problem, researchers can explore vastly larger therapeutic possibilities. Connecting Fragmented Scientific Knowledge Accelerates Discovery: One of the biggest bottlenecks in pharmaceutical research is the fragmented nature of scientific information. Researchers often spend years reviewing hundreds of papers before forming a hypothesis. Puri describes how her team is integrating 60 to 70 public databases into a connected knowledge platform that links diseases, genes, proteins, pathways, and drug candidates. As she notes, "When we type a disease, we know exactly the gene, we exactly know the protein." This consolidation dramatically reduces research time and enables scientists to make more informed decisions earlier in the discovery process. AI Creates New Opportunities for Rare Disease Research: Rare diseases have historically been underserved because of the high costs and long timelines associated with traditional drug development. Puri says that bringing a drug to market can require "$1 billion and about 10 years." By shortening research cycles from years to months, AI lowers the barriers to investigating diseases that pharmaceutical companies may have previously avoided. This acceleration enables smaller teams to pursue treatments for conditions affecting fewer patients while increasing the likelihood that promising therapies can move forward to validation and clinical testing. Pronatalism is the oldest form of reproductive control. Population Balance Executive Director, Nandita Bajaj, joins fellow guest and legal scholar Michele Goodwin and host Shoshanna Ehrlich in this republished episode of Ask a Feminist, a podcast from the Signs Journal. They discuss the rise of patriarchy and pronatalism in the first empires, the racist and eugenicist history of pronatalism in the U.S., and why 'progressive' pronatalism must be resisted as forcefully as pronatalism from the right. Highlights include: How pronatalism arose with patriarchy in the first states and empires to serve economic, nationalist, religious, and expansionist state goals; How pronatalism has historically been shaped by racism, classism, and eugenicist beliefs - with some people encouraged to reproduce and others discouraged; How pronatalism and 'fertility crisis' rhetoric has been embraced not only by racist, anti-immigrant far-right advocates but also by mainstream liberals and progressives who advance growthist, supposedly 'pro-family' agendas; Why pronatalism, as a primary feature of patriarchal control, must be challenged by anyone committed to feminist principles. For decades, India's growth story has rested on the spectacular rise of its middle class. But a new book argues that this very group—roughly 40 million income-tax–paying households—is now under acute strain. Facing a convergence of job disruption, wage stagnation, and rising debt, the middle class may no longer be the engine of growth it once was. This is the argument made in a new book titled, Breakpoint: The Crisis of the Middle Class and the Future of Work. It is authored by Saurabh Mukherjea, along with Nandita Rajhansa and Sapana Bhavsar Saurabh is the founder of Marcellus Investment Managers and the author of six previous books. Prior to setting up Marcellus, Saurabh was the CEO of Ambit Capital. He is also a Founding Director of the Association of Portfolio Managers in India Nandita is an economist and a small and midcap analyst at Marcellus. She's the co-author of a national bestseller, Behold the Leviathan: The Unusual Rise of Modern India, which was published in 2024. Milan speaks with Saurabh and Nandita about the Indian middle class's most vulnerable moment since 1991, the hollowing out of middle-skill jobs, the structural challenges with India's education system, the worrying trend in declining placement rates and salaries, and the explosion in household debt. Plus, the trio discuss how AI and automation are remaking the Indian economy—both for good and for ill. Following on from my awakening episode, last week, I wanted to publish this interview which was carried out in August 2024. We discuss ecological overshoot, the loss of biodiversity and the effect this has on the human race and the non-human animals, the ways in which animal agriculture is a driving force of climate change, the inequality between western culture and the lesser developed countries and the effects that children being born into the world today, will experience within their lifetimes. Nandita also tells us her own personal story of how her passion for the environment and animal rights led her to her current position and the epiphany she had when she realised she did not have to have children. As the late Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano put it in his book Upside Down: A Primer for a Looking Glass World, the terminology used in mainstream political discourse often describes precisely the opposite of reality. Cut-throat capitalism is free trade. Violence is law and order. Extraction of natural wealth from communities is increasing revenue. So where does “border security” fit in to this? Part of the answer is that borders do not produce security but subordination. This point has been made for two decades now by sociologist Nandita Sharma (see the essay “Why No Borders?,” which she cowrote with Bridget Anderson and Cynthia Wright). The point of borders is not to keep people out but to keep them in line. Borders are foundational to a global system fraught with injustice. The struggle for no borders, Sharma explains, is a practical political project. Sharma is the author of two books, Home Economics: Nationalism and the Making of “Migrant Workers” in Canada (University of Toronto Press, 2006) and Home Rule: National Sovereignty and the Separation of Natives and Migrants (Duke University Press, 2020). She teaches at the University of Hawai‘i. During our conversation, I wondered aloud whether “no borders” is still a practical political project, now that Donald Trump will take office for a second term. She responded without hesitation, “It's not only a viable step, it's the only step.” As we concluded, we discussed the provocative quote from Italian thinker, philosopher, and Marxist Antonio Gramsci: “The old world is dying. The new world is struggling to be born. Now is the time of monsters.” Those monsters are easy to identify with the incoming Trump administration and the nation-state it represents, along with increasing climate catastrophe. “This is the moment of solidarity,” Sharma said. “This is the moment for mutual support.” Indeed, she hinted, the moment has arrived to not only imagine but also to work for another possible world. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/border-chronicle/support

In this podcast episode, Nandita Rao Narla explores the reasons why privacy threat modeling programs often fail, such as being expensive with a lot of friction in the development lifecycle, misalignment with organizational strategies focused on compliance rather than risk, and difficulty demonstrating a clear return on investment. Nandita highlights some successful strategies, including leveraging existing security threat modeling resources, simplifying the approach for better adoption like Adam Shostack's four-question framework, aligning with organizational values and culture, and encouraging a mindset of considering what could go wrong. The role of tooling in privacy threat modeling is discussed, with most organizations currently not using many dedicated tools beyond data mapping and asset discovery, while larger companies with mature programs may utilize more advanced tooling. Ultimately, privacy threat modeling represents the next frontier, with a strong privacy program partnering with security threat modeling being the next generation approach.Welcome to Smart Threat Modeling. In this week's episode, Julia is joined by Nandita as she shares what Directing Films has taught her about leading. As a director, she tells us that one must have the the ability to have your feet planted firmly on on the ground, working with teams across departments while also being able to carry the vision of the bigger picture simultaneously. While leading large teams it is important to be technically sound, but also know how to manage people and their emotions. How do you create a democratic atmosphere, where all voices are heard and yet cultivate the confidence and strength to be able to take the final call? Leading can often be a lonely pursuit, and learning to be comfortable with the voices in your head will allow you to learn when to let go and when to stick to what you firmly believe. This episode is a peak into how to lead large and diverse teams to bring out the full potential of a creative collaborative task or project.About the Guest: Nandita Das is a critically acclaimed Actor, Director Writer and Activist from India.

However, the belief in the necessity of milk for protein led her to consume three glasses of milk daily, along with yogurt and other dairy products. A realization of the ethical and health implications of dairy consumption prompted a swift transition to veganism. This marked not only a change in dietary choices but a resolute commitment to a lifestyle in harmony with nature and animals. Full post at: www.HealthScience.org/060-Nandita-Shah
What is it like to be a woman scientist in India? Why don't we see enough of them? If you're quick to point the superstar ones, sadly they're not always the norm. In fact, research has shown that women in academia are expected to be much more competent than their male counterparts to be considered for the same role. It's this bias that got Aashima Dogra and Nandita Jayaraj to start ‘The Life of Science' web portal to document stories of regular women in science, and the systemic bias they fight in their everyday lives. Having began their journey in 2016, it has now given rise to their book ‘Lab Hopping: A Journey to find India's Women in Science'. Backed by research, it makes the reader come to terms with unsettling facts plaguing Indian academia, when it comes to gender and caste diversity. In our conversation, we bring some of these issues to light and what can be done to remedy it. Many people think that high blood pressure comes with age and it is normal to take some medicines for this, especially with the world the way it is today. But it's not. Hypertension can be the cause of heart disease, strokes, chronic kidney disease and more and can be prevented by being aware of the causes and avoiding them. Join us on Saturdays with SHARAN with Dr Nandita Shah from India to understand what hypertension, its causes and prevention is. You will also see testimonials of 2 SHARAN facilitators as well as hear from our clinical cardiologist, Dr Aarti Rathi and you will see Madhura Vayal's healthy version of a popular and delicious North Indian dish, Daal Makhani. Recipe for Daal Makhani DAL MAKHANI (Serves 2) Ingredients 1/4 cup red kidney beans 1/4 cup whole black gram 4 medium size tomatoes, coarsely chopped 1 medium size onion 2 bay leaves 1 inch cinnamon 1 black cardamom 1 star anise 1 tsp red chilli powder 1/4 tsp turmeric 1/2 tsp coriander powder 1/4 tsp cumin powder 1 tsp garam masala 1/2 tsp kasoori methi (optional) 1/8 tsp cardamom powder 8-10 cashews 1 tsp unrefined salt 1/4 cup water 2 cups water for soaking 1 cup water for cooking For garnish 2-3 tbsp thick coconut milk (first extract) Method Wash the kidney beans and black gram. Soak them in 2 cups water and keep aside for 8 hours preferably overnight Drain the water and rinse with fresh water. Pressure cook these with 1 cup water and ½ tsp salt for 1 whistle and allow the pressure release by itself. Drain the beans (but keep the water). You can also cook the beans without a pressure cooker the way you usually cook beans. Heat a thick bottom stainless steel pan. Add the chopped onions, 2 tbsp water and 1/4 tsp salt. Cook the onions till they are light brown and translucent. Add the tomatoes, ginger and garlic. Add 1/4 cup water. Bring it to a boil and cover and cook for 10 mins. Once the tomatoes have mushed up, turn the heat off and allow this mixture to cool down. Transfer in a grinder jar and add the cashews. Grind this mixture without adding any water till it's smooth and creamy. In a thick bottom stainless steel kadhai or pot add the garam masalas and 2-3 tbsp water. Bring to a boil. Add the ground paste and the pressure cooked beans. Adjust the consistency with the saved beans water. Add salt only if necessary. Serve the hot dal makhani along with fragrant brown rice (recipe on SHARAN website) or with Indian flat breads. SERVES 2 VARIATIONS: You can make more of the gravy (with the paste and garam masala) and freeze it and use it later. You can replace the beans with tofu to get a ‘paneer' makhani or with mixed vegetable to get a vegetable makhanwalla and impress your guests every time! You may also replace the whole black gram with brown lentils.

Nandita Chaudhary is a foremost expert on child psychology. She served as a professor at Lady Irwin College in India for over 35 years and teaches in Brazil. Dr. Chaudhary has an impressive record of over 70 publications and several books. Her work challenges mainstream views of parenting, child-rearing, and child health. Given recent debates concerning child research conducted primarily in WEIRD nations (Western Educated Industrialized Rich and Democratic) and subsequently applied universally, her work carries significant relevance. How we understand and shape the lives of children is crucial to how we perceive suffering, healing, and mental disorders. In this interview, we delve into how global organizations like UNICEF may unintentionally harm those they aim to help, how children raised with multiple caregivers can be misclassified as problematic by psychology, and how our comprehension of families, children, and mothers is severely limited. Most importantly, we discuss how studying childcare across various cultures can enlighten us about different ways of living, loving, and understanding one of the most vulnerable among us – children. This might allow us to examine our own biases, practices, and narratives more effectively. *** Mad in America podcasts and reports are made possible, in part, by a grant from the Thomas Jobe Fund. Five thought leaders break the silence on the role of human overpopulation in ecological overshoot –with an informed, engaging conversation about the subject. This is what intelligent discourse sounds like. For thirty years, many people – some well-intentioned – have been trying to silence discourse about human overpopulation. One of our goals on the GrowthBusters podcast is to break that silence, and this episode does that well by bringing together three great thinkers – actually five, educators and crusaders on the subject. The occasion was a visit to Colorado by Nandita Bajaj, executive director of Population Balance and co-host of The Overpopulation Podcast. Nandita designed & teaches the first graduate course on Pronatalism & Overpopulation: The Personal, Cultural, and Global Implications of Having a Child at the Institute for Humane Education at Antioch University. As a bonus, we were joined by her hosts from the University of Denver, Paul Sutton and Sarah Bexell. Sarah leads DU's Center for Sustainability and teaches at the Institute for Humane Education. Paul is Professor in the Department. of Geography & the Environment, and teaches geographic statistics, population geography, and ecological economics. The conversation covers a lot of ground – pronatalism, animal rights, human rights, and collaboration.
