Happy Father's Day! In this episode, Dr. Mo concludes the series, Resurrection and Relationships. Today we focus again on the passage from John 21:20-22 and highlight Jesus's instruction to Peter and invitation to us. Jesus reminded Peter that Peter needed to attend to his relationship with Jesus and not be distracted with the plans for the other disciples. Jesus instructed Peter to not worry about other issues and to “follow Him”. Jesus instructed and invited Peter to follow Him after Peter had rejected, abandoned, betrayed, and denied Him. Tune in to this episode as we think about how Jesus invites us to follow Him when we have been betrayed, rejected, abandoned, or denied. He invites us into the redemption that He purchased for us during the Crucifixion. Also, for those of us who have betrayed, rejected, abandoned, or denied others - He invites us also into a redemptive state. Redemption is ours! Today we begin a new series in 2 Peter which is really a continuation of our series from 1 Peter. The title of this series is taken from 2 Peter 1:19 which reads, "And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts." Join Pastor as he begins this new series entitled "A Lamp Shining In A Dark Place."
Happy Pentecost! In this episode, Dr. Mo continues the series, Resurrection and Relationships. Today we focus a bit further on the conversation between Jesus and Peter. We read from John 21:20-22 and focus on another portion of their conversation.Sometimes when there is tension in our relationships or we hear uncomfortable or difficult things in conversations; we can find ourselves questioning “well, what about this person or that person?” We might entangle another person into the conversation to ease our discomfort or to project our difficulties on someone else. Peter did this as he continued to engage in a conversation with Jesus. Jesus quickly and bluntly asked Peter “what's that to you?” Jesus reminded Peter that the hard conversation they were having toward reconciliation was just between the two of them. Tune in to this episode as we think about how Jesus invites us to stay focused on our relationship with Him. He reminds us to do what He has asked us to do despite our questions concerning others. In this episode, Dr. Mo continues the series, Resurrection and Relationships. Today's focus is when we find ourselves engaging in the difficult work of reconciliation and there is frustration and grief from the perpetrator. We are discussing and thinking about practical ways to participate in the work of reconciliation. Dr. Mo reads from John 21:15-17 as we focus on this interaction between Jesus and Peter. Ironically, this is the third time that Jesus appears to the disciples following the Resurrection. And here we see Jesus asking Peter three times if Peter really loves Him. Theologians suggest that Jesus asked this question three times as a way to redeem Peter. One time for each of the three denials of Jesus. Tune in to this episode as we think about how Jesus might be inviting perpetrators of betrayal to engage in reconciliation especially when one might be grieved at the duration of the process and the repeated interrogations. You don't just end up in a dark place—you're slowly trained into it. Conditioned by chaos, shaped by trauma, and wired for survival. In this episode, I'm breaking down what actually pulls us into darkness—and how to get out. We'll talk about the nervous system, trauma identity, shame, and why pain becomes familiar—even addictive. I share the deeper psychology behind survival mode, and walk you through how to start reconditioning your life for safety, stability, and truth. You'll hear parts of my own story: growing up with a father struggling with addiction and mental illness, developing an eating disorder as a child, staying in abusive relationships that mirrored the instability I was raised in—and what it really looked like to break free. This isn't just a story of struggle; it's a roadmap for healing. If you're tired of performing strength, clinging to control, or confusing survival with purpose, this episode will show you what it takes to release the old, reclaim your identity, and rise. You're not broken—you were trained by pain. Kate Hastings | Mental Health Coach
In this episode, Dr. Mo continues the series, Resurrection and Relationships. Today's focus is when we find ourselves as the victims of betrayal trauma where reconciliation is a possibility. Today, we think about reconciliation after one has experienced betrayal. Sometimes there is a need and a desire to engage in the difficult work of reconciliation after betrayal. One must juggle many factors, such as the mentality and heart posture of the perpetrator, the voices of others who will say “get over it and move on”, and the real emotions and effects that are a part of the physiological distress. Tune in to this episode as we think about how Jesus might be inviting us to resurrect our relationships toward reconciliation. Dr. Mo reads from John 21:15-17 as we discuss what are normal effects of betrayal. One has to be intentional doing the work of reconciliation while leaning into the relationship with Jesus. He will do His part. Then, He invites and empowers us to do ours. An episode from Bible Believers Baptist Church (BBBC), a conservative, independent body of King James Bible believers located in Corpus Christi, Texas. Bible Believers Baptist Church's statement of Faith:A Bible Baptist is one who believes in a supernatural Bible, which tells of a supernatural Christ, Who had a supernatural birth, Who spoke supernatural words, Who performed supernatural miracles, Who lived a supernatural life, Who died a supernatural death, Who rose in supernatural splendor, and Who will one day return in supernatural glory to establish a supernatural kingdom on earth. What BBBC believes about Creation: “We believe in the Genesis account of creation, and that it is to be accepted literally, and not allegorically or figuratively; that man was created directly in God's own image and after His own likeness; that man's creation was not a matter of evolution or evolutionary change of species or development through interminable periods of time from lower to higher forms; and that all animal and vegetable life was made directly and God's established law was that they should bring forth only “after their kind.”What BBBC believes about Salvation: “We believe in God's electing grace; that the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the gospel; that it is the immediate duty of all to accept them by a cordial, penitent and an obedient faith; and nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth but his own inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the gospel; which rejection involves him in an aggravated condemnation. We believe in salvation by grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on Calvary plus nothing. Therefore, we do not believe that works are necessary for salvation, although once a person is saved, he should be careful to maintain good works.”What BBBC believes about Repentance and Faith: “We believe that Repentance and Faith are solemn obligations, and also inseparable graces, wrought in our souls by the quickening Spirit of God, thereby; being deeply convicted of our guilt, danger, helplessness, and of the way of salvation by Christ, we turn to God with unfeigned contrition, confession, and supplication for mercy; at the same time heartily receiving the Lord Jesus Christ and openly confessing Him as our only and all-sufficient Savior.” A message from BBBC to you: “If you are looking for a church in the Corpus Christi Texas area that preaches the Truth from God's Word, reach out to us at any time. Happy Mother's Day! Grace be unto you for the varied emotions this day evokes. In this episode, Dr. Mo further discusses Jesus and relationships, namely with His mother, Mary. Dr. Mo reads from John 19:25-27 where we see Jesus hanging on the cross and Mary standing there nearby. Moments before Jesus gives up His spirit; He assures His mother's provision. Jesus even in His anguish and trauma, looked at His mother and speaks to her directly. He entrusts the care of His mother to the disciple, John. The word “Behold” in the Greek means to see. It also means to observe carefully. Tune in to this episode as we think about how Jesus might be inviting us to carefully observe our mothers, whether they are still living or have passed from this earthly life. Even in the various complexities this day holds for many, there are insights to consider as we look at Jesus as He beholds His mother.Information for Dr. Mohttps://www.drmoniquesmithgadson.com/Link to order “Finding Hope in A Dark Place”:https://lexhampress.com/search?query=Finding%20Hope%20in%20a%20Dark%20Place%3A%20Facing%20Loneliness%2C%20Depression%2C%20and%20Anxiety%20with%20the%20Power%20of%20Grace&sortBy=Relevance&limit=30&page=1&ownership=all&geographicAvailability=allhttps://www.amazon.com/Finding-Hope-Dark-Place-Loneliness/dp/1683596358/ref=rvi_sccl_7/138-1785751-1148333?pd_rd_w=decCb&content-id=amzn1.sym.f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_p=f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_r=GMEBCA5ZB54MM98HHN5F&pd_rd_wg=pwctW&pd_rd_r=0cf054c6-aedd-427d-ac2a-563757407228&pd_rd_i=1683596358&psc=1Follow us on social media: https://www.facebook.com/And-The-Church-Said-Podcast-106848090932637https://instagram.com/drmoniquesmithgadson?igshid=1bmt2hei1j6i8Support And The Church Said:Cash App: https://cash.app/$andthechurchsaidPayPal: https://paypal.me/andthechurchsaid?locale.x=en_US.

In this episode, Dr. Mo further discusses the relationships between Jesus and His disciples. Dr. Mo reads from Luke 22:54-62 and focuses on Peter and the relationship with himself. In Luke 22:61-62, Peter remembers and realizes as soon as Jesus looks at Him, Jesus' prophecy that Peter would deny him. Peter had to come face to face with himself in that moment. The Scripture says he wept bitterly - which means he wailed loudly and violently. He denied and betrayed His Lord. Betrayal trauma is defined as interpersonal trauma perpetrated by someone close to them. Betrayal trauma causes psychological distress for the victims of such abuse. And Peter enacted betrayal trauma upon the Son of Man, His friend, His Master, His Lord. Tune in to this episode as we think about how we need to have a face to face with Self when we come into an awareness of betraying another, especially someone who is close and dear to us. As we continue to celebrate the Resurrection, may we be careful to pause and ponder what we stand in need of by way of Redemption as we acknowledge and confess our betrayals of others. In this episode, Dr. Mo further discusses the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. On this Resurrection Sunday, Dr. Mo reads select verses from Mark 16 and further discusses the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. After the Resurrection of Jesus, He went to Galilee waiting there for the disciples. Even Peter. Jesus had experienced abandonment, rejection, and betrayal from the disciples. He summoned them to meet with Him even AFTER they abandoned Him. When Jesus appeared where the disciples were, we read that Jesus rebuked them - sharply criticizing them for their unbelief. Then, after He got a few things off of His chest, He commissioned them to go forth and preach the gospel.Tune in to this episode as we think about how during this Resurrection Week we can pray about any relationships, personal or substitutionary, where we are being invited to take a posture of humility and not defensiveness. Perhaps we can resurrect relationships if we choose to listen to another who has been rejected, abandoned, and betrayed. In this episode, Dr. Mo discusses the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. On this Palm Sunday, Dr. Mo reads from Matthew 26:36-46, 56 and discusses this aspect of the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. Jesus invited three of His disciples - Peter, James, and John - into a most intimate and most difficult moment in His earthly life. He invited them into the Garden of Gethsemane to stay with Him as He prayed. Jesus confided to HIs disciples that He was deeply grieved. He prayed to His Heavenly Father while the disciples slept. And previously, all of the disciples insisted they would never leave Jesus. However, when times got tough, the disciples deserted him. Tune in to this episode as we think about how during this Holy Week we can attune to not only our closest relationships but also relating to humankind in general during these chaotic times. Can we come alongside people and assure them we will stay to help them during job losses, loss of benefits, fragmentation of family systems, and so many other fears and anxieties people are experiencing during these times. Or will we scatter?Information for Dr. Mohttps://www.drmoniquesmithgadson.com/Link to order “Finding Hope in A Dark Place”:https://lexhampress.com/search?query=Finding%20Hope%20in%20a%20Dark%20Place%3A%20Facing%20Loneliness%2C%20Depression%2C%20and%20Anxiety%20with%20the%20Power%20of%20Grace&sortBy=Relevance&limit=30&page=1&ownership=all&geographicAvailability=allhttps://www.amazon.com/Finding-Hope-Dark-Place-Loneliness/dp/1683596358/ref=rvi_sccl_7/138-1785751-1148333?pd_rd_w=decCb&content-id=amzn1.sym.f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_p=f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_r=GMEBCA5ZB54MM98HHN5F&pd_rd_wg=pwctW&pd_rd_r=0cf054c6-aedd-427d-ac2a-563757407228&pd_rd_i=1683596358&psc=1Follow us on social media: https://www.facebook.com/And-The-Church-Said-Podcast-106848090932637https://instagram.com/drmoniquesmithgadson?igshid=1bmt2hei1j6i8Support And The Church Said:Cash App: https://cash.app/$andthechurchsaidPayPal: https://paypal.me/andthechurchsaid?locale.x=en_US.

In this episode, Dr. Mo further explores the discipline of Rest. Dr. Mo continues to discuss Genesis 2:1-3 where we see how God Himself modeled rest for us. Our focus is on Genesis 2:3 where God blesses the Seventh Day and declares it holy. We ponder the culture's watering down that which God has declared holy. If He commands this day to be holy, how do we need to align our lives to fulfill His Word to us? We are challenged to think about what the day offers us - rest and tranquility - as opposed to a legalistic approach of what we cannot do. Tune in to this episode as we think about how God blessed the day where He ceased from work and declared it holy and to be set apart. Let's consider His model and invitation to us to recognize the Sabbath. Send us a textAMERICAN SNIPERThe once distant end of Season 14's curated rewatched flicks is now in our sights as the TGTPTU crew pulls the trigger on their final movie of the eight enlisted pairs mustering their Redux Season, taking aim at Clint Eastwood's highest grossing film: AMERICAN SNIPER (2014). Originally covered early in the pod's first season (S1, E5 in Year 2020) and chosen by host Thomas who'd never seen, this American Sniper revisit offers new insight into the film the original hosting duo of Ken and Jack ranked as the worst of any Eastwood-starring or -directed picture in their Season 3 final rankings episode that concluded the Eastwood run of the show. Frequent guest Erik Van Der Wolf provides the episode's cold open; bookworm and host Thomas read almost half the Chris Kyle's titular book; host Ken takes aim with some advice to filmmakers regarding a pre-shooting watch of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace; former host Jack, aka last episode's Judas, sticks to his guns; and host Ryan joins Thomas to geek out about a Buffy the Vampire connection. Listen to the end of the episode for season rankings of the eight films re-covered to see if American Sniper maintains its title as the worst Eastwood for Ken and Jack and for new hosts Ryan and Thomas as well as for the surprise announcement of the season's four-film extension. In this episode, Dr. Mo further explores the discipline of Rest. Dr. Mo continues to discuss Genesis 2:1-3 where we see how God Himself modeled rest for us. In this episode, Dr. Mo further explores the discipline of Rest. Dr. Mo continues to discuss Genesis 2:1-3 where we see how God Himself modeled rest for us. We are invited to conduct a time budget so that we will be able to trace where we invest our time. We are also asked to consider the season of life we are in and what purposes are to be accomplished during the current season. Are we willing to consider some of the tasks we attempt to complete during this season, may not be the appropriate tasks for the season? Tarana Burke, founder of the Me Too movement joins Sam to celebrate Women’s History Month and talks about how she’d rather be with good people in a dark place than bad people in a bright place and how Tesla cybertrucks are the only things that make them laugh these days. Sam and Tarana discuss how so many people in the administration are credibly accused of sexual violence and what to do when funding and policies for life-changing work are in jeopardy. They commiserate over the chokehold Amazon Prime has over them, what it’s like to run a global organization when the US acts like it doesn’t care about the rest of the world, and how we can do more together than apart. In this episode, Dr. Mo celebrates five years of the podcast! Dr. Mo reflects on five years of podcasting as she understands that worship is an act of obedience. We look at Genesis 22:5 where Abraham takes his son, Isaac, to be sacrificed. It is the first time in the Scriptures the word “worship” is used. Dr. Mo discusses places where she has failed to execute all God has shown and instructed her concerning the podcast. She talks about continuing the work wholeheartedly as an act of worship, that is, obedience unto God. Which includes fully executing the vision God has given her concerning the podcast. John is joined by Jonathan V. Last to discuss The Bulwark editor's contention that, less than three weeks into Trump 2.0, “we are in a constitutional crisis already.” JVL argues that the new administration's early moves reflect a strategy of subjugating the legislative branch and daring the courts to stop it, then raises the question of whether the White House will comply with the judiciary's rulings in any case. He also defends his position Democrats should expend no political capital to protect voters from Trump's worst policy excesses—and explains why The New York Times is utterly unsuited to the meeting the moment in which our democracy now finds itself. In this episode, Dr. Mo continues to discuss ways we can start the new year being more organized, productive, or more efficient by considering the discipline of rest. We are studying Genesis 2:1-3 and observing God's model for rest that we can apply to our lives. God completed the work He purposed to do each day. God is God and still chose to establish boundaries each day as to what He would complete. This should motivate us to be realistic in what we can accomplish in a given day. In this episode, Dr. Mo continues to discuss ways we can start the new year being more organized, productive, or more efficient. We are still delving in Genesis 1 for principles that help us frame how to order our days toward productivity. Starting at verse 4 throughout the remainder of the chapter, we see three themes emerging: (1) God was productive and creating every day; (2) He reviewed all of His accomplishments at the end of the day and blessed the day declaring it was good; and (3) when He made humankind He declared that it was VERY good. Tune in to this episode as we imagine how God might be inviting us to plan our tasks and feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of each day.
