When you're trying to do a show on a show that almost no one watched, and no one wants to watch it now, you find out who your friends are. Several tried. But despite my assurances, no one made it past episode 3. Until my favorite faux daughter, Cee The Superior said yes. And she got her fiance involved too. Bonus, he already loves Battlestar Galactica! He probably loves her too, but we don't care about that. Anyway, they watched it and picked up the threads I was picking up too. Plus, at least one I missed entirely!Listen to our deep and spiritual discussion about issues eternally topical and especially topical right now (2020's). Join us for in depth analysis of the BSG prequel: Caprica. Until it all happens again in about 23 Billion years. Give or take.

[School of Movies 2026] The main event Electric State episode was recorded at the start of the year with Willow, a powder-keg, ready to go thermonuclear. We decided to include it in MA.I. as it is absolutely thematically relevent. What we have here is an adaptation of a haunting 2018 art book by Simon Stålenhag depicting an alternate 1997 where mankind has slowly descended into an advertising-plastered corporate Matrix. A teenage girl and her robot companion travel America while she recounts their story in dreamlike prose, accompanied by unsettling imagery of people who have become trapped in Virtual reality while mechanical behemoths stalk the land. The 2025 Netflix version is the most repugnant, empty $320m blockbuster bastardisation of elegant art we have ever seen, and it is all the worse coming from directors the Russo Brothers, Marcus & McFeely, the superstar writing team that made the MCU great, the legendary Alan Silvestri composing, even Jeffrey Ford, the editor of Captain America: The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier and Civil War and Iron Man 3, AND The Avengers, and Age of Ultron and Infinity War and Endgame. Basically almost everyone at the top of the production team is coming back for Doomsday and Secret Wars. What the hell happened? Following that nightmare we have Ron's Gone Wrong, a much more compassionate little 2021 animated movie about another kid with another robot, but this one takes the opposite approach of highlighting how frighteningly easy it is to become trapped by 24/7 performative self-presentation on Social Media. Nowhere near enough people saw it, and we're hoping to get a few of you to change that. By that same token, absolutely everyone is advised to watch the criminally underseen gem that concludes MA.I. next week... Companion. The Curious Archive video: The Breathtaking Horror of The Electric State There is a much better adaptation of Stålenhag's art that we are currently watching; a streaming monoseries named Tales from the Loop (2020). It is quiet and unsettling and patient. This weekend's After School Club: Upgrade & I Am Mother And Next Week's Main Event again: Companion
Geek Freaks is back with a packed episode covering the latest Lanterns trailer, the return of Westworld, new release dates for VisionQuest and Crystal Lake, and a full review of Punisher: One Last Kill. Frank and Squeaks break down what the new DC footage could mean for Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and the larger Green Lantern mythology. The episode also gets into what a new Westworld movie needs to do differently from the HBO series, how VisionQuest could bring Ultron and Wanda back into play, and whether a Deathstroke and Bane movie could actually work as a darker action comedy. The back half shifts into Punisher: One Last Kill, Dungeon Crawler Carl, network updates, and weekly recommendations. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Back in the Studio!, CCS Recap, and Convention Stories 02:35 Question of the Week: Posters and Box Art That Started a Fandom 05:08 Lanterns Trailer Reaction and Green Lantern Theories 16:25 Westworld Movie Announcement and Franchise Potential 25:00 VisionQuest and Crystal Lake Release Date Discussion 31:42 Deathstroke and Bane Movie Talk 37:26 Punisher: One Last Kill Review 44:24 Dungeon Crawler Carl, Network Updates, and Weekly Recommendations Key Takeaways The new Lanterns trailer sparked a big discussion about whether the show can balance grounded detective drama with the cosmic scale fans expect from Green Lantern. Frank and Squeaks dig into Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and the possibility that the series could explore the morality and purpose of the Green Lantern Corps. The newly announced Westworld movie has Frank excited because the franchise can work as a smaller survival story set against a much bigger sci-fi collapse. VisionQuest and Crystal Lake landing back-to-back in October could make for a huge week of Marvel and horror viewing. The Deathstroke and Bane movie raises questions about tone, especially with Greg Mottola's comedy background, but the hosts see potential if it leans into a Suicide Squad style dynamic. Punisher: One Last Kill earns praise for its action, Jon Bernthal's performance, and emotional shift for Frank Castle, though Frank wanted more story before the ending. Quotes "Some of these games are just developed by one person, and what they do with that lack of help is phenomenal." "That's the Lanterns trailer they should have released first." "I think that's the button we're going to see: what is the morality of Green Lanterns?" "We got bad taste with how the HBO series ended, but I think we all fell in love with how it started." "The action was phenomenal. The killings were great. It got straight to the point." Mottola is no stranger to the DCU or James Gunn, having directed episodes of Peacemaker. While DC has yet to comment, Moon Knight writer Matthew Orton reportedly wrote the initial screenplay for the villain duo team-up and is set to do a rewrite if Mottola does end up being the choice. In other DCU news, Friday Night Lights actor Sinqua Walls has joined the cast of Man of Tomorrow in an undisclosed role. Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy is now attached to direct an original sci fi film written by Max Taxe titled Somewhere Out There for Netflix. Mortal Kombat 2 earned a worldwide box office total of $63 million dollars with only $23 million of that total made overseas. NBCUniversal has confirmed that a live-action Fast and the Furious series is in development. Vin Diesel, who will serve as a producer, announced the project, which is set up at Peacock, on stage at the NBCUniversal upfront presentation Monday morning. After bringing Michael Crichton‘s theme park vision to the screen scripting 1993's Jurassic Park and two sequels, screenwriter David Koepp is looking to tackle another one. Here in the heart of Peak MCU Times, we pause our trek through the 2010s to look at the actual Marvel Comics event books that at minimum leant their titles to major Marvel Studios movies. Munsi Parker-Munroe joins Dan to dig into the comic version of Civil War, Age of Ultron, Secret Invasion, and more to see why Kevin Feige borrowed the titles and left most of the actual stories behind. It turns out that massive event miniseries relying on dozens of tie-in issues don't fit easily into one movie. Welcome to the place where we get to let our geek flags fly and talk about all things geek. Basically a fuzzy guide to life, the universe, and everything but mostly geek stuff. This week on the AIPT Comics Podcast, we interview cartoonist Stephanie Stalvey, diving deep into her graphic memoir Everything in Color. In the conversation, Stalvey opens up about growing up in an evangelical household, unpacking purity culture, and how motherhood reshaped her understanding of faith and identity. It's an honest, vulnerable discussion about turning lived experience into art, and why telling these stories can resonate far beyond one person's life. When you look back now, how do you understand that relationship differently? One of the most striking ideas in the book is the notion that “our bodies belong to the authority figure.” How did unpacking that belief shape the emotional core of this memoir? Everything in Color is deeply personal, especially in how it portrays your relationship with your husband and your child. What was it like sharing drafts with your husband as you were creating the book? Your journey raises big questions about faith, doubt, and identity. Did you find yourself arriving at answers while making the book, or is it more about learning to live with the questions? The book touches on major shared moments like 9/11 and the COVID lockdown. How did anchoring your personal story to these larger events help shape the narrative? There's a powerful shift in the book where love, especially through motherhood, reframes everything as sacred. When did that realization first begin to take hold for you? This is a massive and ambitious work. Was it always envisioned at this scale, and how long did it take you to bring it to life? The title Everything in Color feels like a mission statement for the book. At what point did you know that was the right way to describe this journey? The artwork blends intimacy with emotional weight throughout. How did you approach pairing your visual storytelling with such vulnerable subject matter?

Cut to the present and the Avengers are doing an Avengers thing in Lagos. You know the avengers: Captain America , black widow , falcon, and Wanda. The classics. It does not go well. After another bad mission, The UN comes in and says they want to put the Avengers under government control with something called the Sokovia Accords.. Tony who shows up to this meeting, feeling guilty about creating Ultron, is like “yeah maybe we should have supervision.” Steve, meanwhile, is like “I actually trust myself more than literally any government on earth.” Uh oh, I smell a civil war! We see a guy named Zemo kill Bucky's old Hydra handler and steal the magic words book that turns Bucky into a murder robot. Meanwhile, at the big UN meeting, a bomb goes off and kills the king of Wakanda. Security footage makes it look like Bucky did it. The kings son, T'Challa, is very much on the case. Steve decides he's gonna go get Bucky himself despite the fact that he could get arrested in the process. He and Sam track him down and try to talk to him, where things immediately turn into a whole mess. T'Challa shows up to kill Bucky, and it leads to a massive chase which ends in everyone getting arrested because you can't just do whatever you want anymore. They bring in a psychiatrist to evaluate Bucky but it's actually Zemo. Bucky goes nuts but Zemo escapes. Steve is able to save Bucky from the water and Bucky comes back to himself. He explains that Zemo framed him and is heading to Siberia, where Hydra supposedly has a bunch more Winter Soldiers ready to rock n roll. Things stop being fun and Natasha helps Steve and Bucky escape. the rest of Steve's crew gets tossed into underwater super prison jail Tony eventually realizes Bucky was framed and finds Steve and Bucky in Siberia to call a temporary truce. But then Zemo reveals the footage from 1991 showing that Bucky murdered Tony's parents . And Steve knew. Ohhhhhhh SNAP. Tony takes that information about as well as you'd expect. Tony fights Steve and Bucky, Bucky loses his robot arm, Steve fights Tony hard an departs with Bucky, leaving his shield behind, and Zemo is like mission accomplished. But then T'Challa shows up and arrests him. Steve then breaks everyone out of the underwater prison, and Bucky heads to Wakanda to be frozen until someone can deprogram his murder brain. "NO STRINGS ON ME..." After the first Avengers movie changed the game forever, everyone wondered what the sequel had in store. Especially when it was revealed that instead of tackling Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet, the film would focus on fan-favorite villain Ultron while saving that story for the third film. While met with positive reactions and a similarly successful commercial run, the culmination of Phase 2 has become regarded as more of a bizarre buffer and prelude for Phase 3 rather than a strong story in its own right. Eleven years later, does that still ring true? Tune in to find out as Brian, Alec, Darby, and Trey continue Phase 2 of the MCUathon with the movie whose trailer tricked the masses, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON!
It's Marvel Monday and the Avengers are back to face their greatest threat yet(?)! ABOUT AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON May 1, 2015 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Director: Joss Whedon Writers: Joss Whedon, Stan Lee, Jack Kirby Cast: Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk Chris Hemsworth as Thor Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye James Spader as Ultron Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch Paul Bettany as Jarvis/Vision Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS Meet the Avengers — back together again because apparently no one else can handle a simple “let's raid a HYDRA base” situation. Their mission? Break into Baron von Strucker's operation, stop some deeply concerning human experimentation, and get Loki's scepter back where it belongs. Easy enough… until they run into Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, a pair of enhanced twins with super speed, mind games, and enough power to make everyone very uncomfortable. After recovering the scepter, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner do what Tony Stark and Bruce Banner always do: they mess with something they absolutely should not mess with. Hidden inside the scepter is the advanced intelligence they think can finally complete Ultron, a global peacekeeping program Tony has been dreaming about. Unfortunately, Ultron wakes up with exactly one idea in mind: humanity has got to go. He destroys J.A.R.V.I.S., wrecks Avengers Tower, steals the scepter, and heads out to build himself a better future… one without people in it. Ultron recruits Wanda and Pietro by showing them Tony's greatest hits in collateral damage, and together they set out to collect vibranium for whatever nightmare project he's cooking up. When the Avengers try to stop them, Wanda gets inside everyone's heads and forces them to confront their worst fears. Things really go off the rails when she manipulates Bruce into becoming the Hulk in the middle of a city, leaving Tony to suit up in the Hulkbuster armor and punch his friend through several buildings. Not great for public relations. With the team shaken, divided, and freshly hated by the public, Hawkeye brings everyone to the one place no one saw coming: his secret farmhouse, where he casually reveals that he has a wife, kids, and a whole hidden life none of them knew about. It's a surprisingly grounding stop for a team on the verge of collapse, and it gives them just enough clarity to realize Ultron's plan is much bigger than they thought. Once Wanda sees that he's not trying to save the world but end it, she and Pietro switch sides and join the Avengers. Things escalate quickly when Ultron kidnaps Natasha, forcing the team into another rescue while also arguing over whether they should trust the strange new synthetic body Tony and Bruce have been building. Thor returns just in time to supercharge the process, explaining that the gem in Loki's scepter is tied to something far more powerful: the Infinity Stones. The result is Vision, a mysterious new being who immediately earns everyone's trust by casually lifting Thor's hammer like it's no big deal. The final showdown takes the team to Sokovia, where Ultron has used vibranium to turn an entire chunk of the city into a floating extinction-level weapon. If he can lift it high enough and drop it, humanity is done. So naturally, the Avengers split up to save civilians, battle an endless robot army, rescue Natasha, and stop the apocalypse all at once. Nick Fury even shows up in a Helicarrier because if the sky city is going down, he's not about to miss it. The battle comes at a cost. Pietro sacrifices himself to save Hawkeye and a child, Wanda unleashes her grief in spectacular fashion, and Hulk ultimately chooses to disappear rather than risk hurting Natasha or anyone else again. In the end, Tony and Thor destroy Sokovia before it can wipe out the planet, and Vision finishes off Ultron for good — or at least as “for good” as these things ever are. By the end, the original team has changed. Thor heads back to Asgard to investigate the larger cosmic mystery. Tony steps away. Hawkeye retires. And Steve Rogers and Natasha are left to train a new generation of Avengers, including War Machine, Falcon, Wanda, and Vision. And just when you think it's over, Thanos puts on a gauntlet and basically says, “Fine. I'll do it myself. There's a moment in Captain America: Civil War that lasts about three seconds. Tony Stark's head is down.He forces himself to look at Steve.“Did you know?” That hesitation doesn't just break a friendship — it fractures the Avengers. In this episode of Marvel Maniac, we break down the emotional and strategic consequences of that bunker scene. From Tony's guilt after New York, to Steve's loyalty to Bucky, to T'Challa choosing peace over vengeance, this is one of the most mature conflicts in blockbuster history. But what if Steve had told Tony the truth after Age of Ultron?Would the Avengers have stayed united?Would Thanos have ever gotten the Snap? We explore how Civil War may have set the board for Infinity War — and how one moment of silence changed everything.

After the massive stakes of Age of Ultron, Marvel did something unexpected — it went small. In this episode of Marvel Maniac, we revisit Ant-Man and explore why this funny, heartfelt, and inventive film was exactly what the MCU needed at the end of Phase Two. From Paul Rudd's instantly lovable Scott Lang, to Hank Pym's grief-driven legacy, to the introduction of the mysterious Quantum Realm, Ant-Man proves that Marvel doesn't always need gods or world-ending threats to make us care. Sometimes, the smallest stories hit the hardest. ⭐ Enjoying the show?

Armed with the Reality and Space Infinity Stones, this alloyed nightmare successfully merged two realities into one and aims to convert all organic life into his mindless "Sigma Virus" drones. In the other corner, we have the embodiment of "Kombat Rage" from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe: Dark Kahn. Born from the accidental fusion of Darkseid and Shao Kahn, this titan of fury possesses the Omega Effect and the dark sorcery of Outworld, threatening to collapse the DC and MK universes into a singular realm of chaos. Will the "Age of Ultron Sigma" begin, or will everything succumb to the will of Dark Kahn? Tune in to find out!Don't forget to subscribe and give us your thoughts in the comments below. Get out there and level up, Kombatants!

How do you honor that legacy while still making Thundarr feel like a Jason Aaron story? You've written some of the biggest mythic heroes in comics — Thor, Conan, Avengers. Where does Thundarr fit into that heroic lineage for you?The original cartoon blended post-apocalyptic sci-fi with sorcery and swordplay in a way that was rare even then. How are you capturing that same balance in the comic — and are you updating it for modern readers in any way? You've said this story will reveal Thundarr's origin for the first time. What can fans expect from that reveal, and how did you approach filling in a piece of lore that's been left blank for over 40 years? You're collaborating with artist Kewber Baal, who's got a dynamic and muscular style that fits Thundarr perfectly. What's the creative chemistry been like between you two so far?Classic villains like Gemini and Mindok are returning. Did you treat this like a “greatest hits” of Thundarr adversaries, or did you want to expand their mythology too?Fun/Silly Question: If you had Thundarr's Sunsword for a day, what's the first totally irresponsible thing you'd use it for — and what's the first heroic thing you'd do after?
Avengers: Age of Ultron is one of the most misunderstood movies in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe—and with the benefit of hindsight, it's aged far better than anyone expected. In this episode of Marvel Maniac, I take a deep dive into why Age of Ultron works as a crucial bridge between the early Avengers era and the eventual end of the Infinity Saga. From Tony Stark's darkest compulsions and the creation of Ultron, to the introduction of Wanda Maximoff, the loss that defines her, and the quiet foreshadowing hidden in Vision's final conversation with Ultron—this movie was doing far more groundwork than we realized at the time. We talk Sokovia, consequences, the seeds of Civil War, Hawkeye's importance, the Avengers at their absolute peak, and why this film feels richer and heavier when viewed through everything that comes after it. If you want to support the show, Patreon is always appreciated (with flexibility when needed), and there's also a tip jar if you'd like to toss support the show's way—never expected, always grateful. You can also hang out with me live on Twitch at twitch.tv/MrHon3st (that's Mr H-O-N-3-S-T — a 3 instead of the E) where I stream Marvel's Spider-Man and other games three days a week. It's a relaxed space to talk Marvel, movies, games, and just enjoy being part of a community. More is coming soon—including a future Discord for deeper discussions and a true home base for Marvel Maniacs. Thanks for being here.

We ranked the MCU Avengers and you seemed to like that enough to fill us with enough delusions of grandeur to rank the colorful (often green or gray) bad guys of the MCU. We're talking everyone from Abomination to Zemo! Every character is beloved by someone which is the only way you can justify Jake sticking up for Kaecilius, Mike rewatching Iron Man 2 repeatedly to slobber all over Justin's Hammer, and Holden's undying love of Norman Osborn. Actually that last one makes sense, it's Willem Dafoe. He rules. Agree with us or disagree with us on Ultron's eyes and let us know if you think the real villain is our awful opinions!Want even more Nerd of Mouth?
