Chien-Chi shares her personal story in navigating breast cancer and seeing the barriers that Asian women, in particular immigrant Asian women face in the healthcare system. Her journey led to the creation of an incredible non-profit, Asian Women for Health. From education to key partnerships, the organization is supporting the prevention and support needed for prevalent health issues. Mental health is also addressed and in light of the recent hate crimes and violence against the Asian community, the need for the organization’s work in this space is critical. Asian communities are upset, depressed, isolated and scared, Chien-Chi explained in this episode. She faced a verbal attack too and when you hear the story of how she turned that situation around, you will be inspired to recognize the power we each hold to make a difference. We talk about her personal story too and how life brought her to this calling. I think you will be emotionally moved and inspired by Chien-Chi’s story. Funds and sustaining the organization is always the biggest challenge – if you are in a position to, please donate in any way possible, small or big is always appreciated. As a master breathwork facilitator, she leads people through powerful healing and awakening journeys. Claudia has such a powerful, yet balanced energy to her being – with a hint of playful, enough to make you want to immediately join one of her sessions. We had a conversation that touched on everything from trauma, anxiety, spiritual evolution, plant medicine and just plain old good physical health; and how breathwork can be such a powerful tool for transformation. Claudia also shares her personal story, from corporate high-flyer to a different type of power, one that is fortified within and how her divorce led to new realizations, as well as the path to personal forgiveness. I think you will resonate and maybe walk away with a desire to really delve into breathwork, I certainly did. Food is foundational to our experience as people, we also now understand its criticality in the future of our planet. Having recently completed a Regenerative Food Systems program, she is a Food & Climate Shaper at the Future Food Institute and FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization) of the United Nations, while also supporting Charles Michel’ School of Conscious Eating Community. Eleni is currently looking at the centrality of gastronomy in regenerating the present for a sustainable future as part of her Master’s in Food Anthropology. I had an illuminating conversation with Eleni to understand what’s happening with food systems and sustainability. Eleni explains these challenges simply and clearly – this isn’t just a conversation for the food nerd, it’s important for all of us to start to understand what’s happening with our food systems. I ask the tough questions, like balancing personal needs vs environmental and we talk about some of the misconceptions around the relationship between our environmental crisis and food (hint hint: almond milk). There’s a lot to cover under this banner, but I think this conversation is a great starting point. I was prompted by the book Atomic Habits by James Clear, to research a concept called Tiny Habits I heard of a while back. Tiny Habits is a breakthrough method created by Stanford behavior scientist and New York Times best-selling author, Dr. BJ Fogg. Zeinab has trained with the Tiny Habits Academy. In our conversation, we talk about the Tiny Habits methodology and why as Zeinab shares "tiny is mighty!". Zeinab has an incredible life story living in many different countries in the world and she shares her take on Identity, we delve into the collective identity crisis we are all experiencing. Zeinab's writing is exceptional and she shares one of her beautiful poems (goosebumps) with us towards the end of the convo. And bonus, she shares how to access a FREE 5-day Tiny Habits training program as we wrap up. After my conversation with Inka Immonen, a Biohacker for Women and co-creator of the Biohacking for Women course – I can fairly state that she not only personifies what she teaches but she engages at a frequency that is self-assured, sincere, and so refreshing. You are going to love this week’s interview with Inka. From the get-go, we delve into questions like the difference between the female and male brain, cell renewal and concepts like nutritechnology, and we also talk about integrating body/mind practices with a focus on spirit too. Truly, a fascinating conversation with so much to learn, even if you are completely new to biohacking and especially if you are interested in the nuances of biohacking for women. I had the opportunity to speak to the cool juicing whiz, Dom Ceja aka Nomadic Juicer. Like many others, there’s so much about juicing that I don’t understand. I have tried the juice fasts and detox packs from leading brands. I was all in on the celery juice craze and still do it infrequently. But I never truly understood how it works, why it works, and how to incorporate it into my lifestyle for true benefit and in a sustainable fashion. Dom explains and breaks all of this down in our chat and BONUS, we have a juicing recipe and demo at the end. So if it's a bit intimidating to step into the juicing world, I think this interview will be an incredible tool. One of the biggest takeaways for me, actually massive takeaway was learning about meeting my protein needs (as my diet is mostly vegan) through juicing. We also get into herbology and the concept of regenerative detoxification (which is easier to spell than it is to pronounce). Dom’s entire story and journey is unique and inspiring. From athlete to nomad, to turning to a juicing lifestyle, he drops so much wisdom with incredible humility. Dom is currently based in the mountains of Armenia – as you know the country is in the midst of conflict. Dom, we are keeping you in mind, please continue to stay safe and we are praying for a quick and peaceful resolution. Nahid de Belgeonne, is a UK-based yoga expert, fitness studio owner and the founder of The Human Method™, which is a specialized form of yoga and movement that draws on somatic yoga, the Feldenkrais Method and more. Nahid has served as the yoga expert for Women’s Health Magazine UK and Aveda UK. Her corporate clients include L’Oreal, Mac, Estee Lauder and La Mer to name a few. I had the incredible opportunity to speak with Nahid this week – in a conversation that is practical and profound. We get to learn about her journey, development of The Human Method™, and exactly what makes it so transformative. But our conversation goes even deeper, as we explore the very notion of what it means to become human again, the signs of a “true” wellness revolution, and how self-care enables the generosity to serve others. If you have watched “The Social Dilemma” recently, then you will resonate with and understand what Nahid shares about the attack on our attention and the mental exhaustion we are facing. The power to change our habits, how we breathe, how much we move, and what we eat is in our hands though – we are at a point of realization that we can no longer put our careers at the cost of our health. You can even learn some easy hacks, for anyone tied to an office desk, on this episode. Gurki Basra came to popularity overnight, after her Netflix episode on the show titled “Dating Around” aired in 2019. Largely, because Gurki had an encounter with a male date that triggered for many viewers (especially women) the stigma, bias and judgments that are unfairly placed on women. On the show, it was in the context of dating but these issues perpetuate into many realms of society. I had an incredible and honest conversation with Gurki about her experience on the show and her journey since. We unpacked her difficult encounter on the show but also the opportunities for self-reflection and growth that have come from this time in her life. Gurki is now doing exciting things to uplift young women and help them redefine their identities outside of societal stereotypes. Lisa Staprans has been an interior designer for over twenty years and has received numerous awards for her work, one of them being from the American Institute of Architects for her work on the Portola Valley Town Library, a platinum LEED-certified project. I deeply resonated with Lisa’s work as she is invested in discovering and maximizing the links between neuroscience and design i.e. how design impacts the brain and the soul of design. In this intriguing and highly informative conversation, we talk about how design can stimulate positive neurotransmitters, reduce the impact of stress, inspire creativity and how the integration with nature is about a connection to our very DNA. Timmie Horvath is the founder of the Sacred Wellness School of Healing Arts based in Canada. She spends the time with By Intent to explain how energy healing really works. There’s so much we unpack in this interview from listening to your intuition and the responsible way to integrate energy healing with medicine. We also talk about her amazing story in transitioning from nurse to energy healing and now teaching others to do the same. And you guys know me (chuckles), I had to get some advice on how to amp us our new moon and full moon rituals for the rest of 2020. Monita Rajpal doesn’t need much of an introduction. She has graced our television screens for years. She has been referred to as “true talent” by Pharrell Williams and “brilliant” by Tom Ford. Monita Rajpal spent 14 years of her journalism career with CNN in Atlanta, Toronto and Hong Kong. She has covered some of the biggest events in history and interviewed some of the biggest names in design, fashion, art and politics. Her interviews are far from ordinary, they offer deep insight and perspective. I had the opportunity to reverse the roles with Monita in a truly illuminating conversation. A discussion that stretches from creating sacred spaces for conversation, identity detoxing, representation in media to learning more about her new venture, the Citrine Room.
