Transformations are more often results of choices rather than circumstances! The desire to transform is not in short supply. People want to change their lives, have bigger houses, earn more money, spend more time with their families, and have healthier bodies. Despite these desires, very few actually achieve their goals, because most people look to their circumstances instead of themselves. Most people attribute deteriorating health to work and family obligations, overwhelming amounts of stress, old injuries, among other excuses that form a long list, EXCLUDING PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY! On today's episode, we've got Ross Assenheim to set the record straight! There will always be work, family obligations, stress, and other issues that will interrupt your transformation, ONLY if you let these factors take the wheel. Ross is a husband, and a father of 2 kids. He works insane hours (in the evening) managing his business, comes home to fulfill his obligations to his family, gets very little sleep, BUT still manages to find time to go to the gym and maintain a fit and healthy body! Before he decided to take control of his life, he was overweight and was suffering from slipped discs. To keep himself awake during the night, he consumes large amounts of sugar and caffeine in energy drinks. Besides that, he also craved heavily for sweets like chocolates. However, his body could only tolerate so much abuse. He started having a hard time moving and he experienced more aches and pains. That's when he decided he needed to take charge in taking back his health. Getting inspiration from different biohackers, he went on a journey to build a fit and healthy body. He not only transformed himself but also inspired family, friends and colleagues to make positive changes in their lifestyles. What was key for Ross's transformation? What are some of the techniques he employed? How does his personal transformation affect the people around him? Check out this episodes to learn more about being personally accountable for health transformations and inspiring others to follow the same road to fitness and health. ---------------- Follow me on Instagram and feel free to DM about 1-1 online training @krisgethin Do you need elite sports supplements you can trust to help you achieve your goals in the gym and in life? We graduated from college together more than 2 decades ago, and she went on to be a certified holistic wellness coach...talking in this episode about biohacking for your health, nutrition advice for busy people in the New Year, how faith in God plays a role in your wellness, plus being a cancer survivor and a mother to a pair of teens. Make sure to subscribe to "Run The Race" for weekly inspiration related to fitness and faith. (5:12) Naomi (Bleeker) Damask, Elon College (NC) class of 1998 like me, starts by talking about vision for the New Year, keys to success to stick with your goals for 2022, and building simple healthy habits, hers involving where she puts her faith devotional and glasses of water. (9:23) Losing weight is a big focus with "resolutions" but she says you also gotta focus on the WHY and your inside. (11:58) Ten years ago, this healthy young woman got a "sucker punch" when she found out she had 2 invasive tumors, changing the direction of her life. She talks about what she did to become a cancer survivor and change her career with a new mission to help women with prevention health. Naomi says health care providers give women too many medicine "bandaids" and we all have to learn to listen to our bodies! With stressful lives, breaks are needed. For those of us with busy lives, (20:49) coach Naomi gets specific about how/why we should eat healthy, with 3 keys of what to look for in your food. You can still enjoy eating what you want at times, and take small steps. (25:40) She says the spiritual and emotional sides are also key for wellness, which includes having hope! And why did she change from vegetarian lifestyle to eating meat again? (31:00) She explains why she left the corporate world, a job at Maybelline, after her cancer diagnosis. Now a wellness entrepreneur in epigenetics, biohacking and nutrigenomics - she explains what all that means. In laymans terms, you have a family history that affects your health, but your environment and what you eat also impacts our genes, plus what small changes YOU can make for a healthier life overall. With the idea to get away from technology more, (36:25) Naomi talks about getting outside and moving more, even cold therapy in Minnesota where she lives. She also created "Vitamin C Parties." The C stands for cancer and some other important "C" words. (40:27) As a coach, she talks about seeing more depression during the COVID pandemic, how serving others can help. (42:38) This mom hopes to be an example for other women, including her 2 teen daughters. (47:58) Naomi closes us out in prayer, (50:28) then the "Stuck in my Head" segment is me paying homage to entertainers we recently lost - Betty White and Bob Saget - by singing their TV theme songs. Thanks for listening! And please share it with your friends using #RunTheRace podcast. Also, write a quick review about it. For more info, go to www.wtvm.com/podcast/.
With evolution comes renewed purpose and renewed life! Think about it! Sooner or later, we're bound to outgrow our current roles. And if we don't evolve, we risk falling into a life of redundancy, of wasted talents and opportunities, and of less than meaningful existence – that which is no way to live at all! In this solo episode, Kris Gethin recounts his journey of evolution and what that meant for Kaged Muscle. He went to college and took up International Health and Sports Therapy. From there, he took other courses and certifications in order to expand his knowledge on what he was passionate about. Kris knew he couldn't wear the skin of being just a student forever. In order to grow further in pursuit of his passion, he had to apply what knew, thus deciding to compete in his first body-building competition. From there, he became a personal trainer, became editor-in-chief of a body-building website, and also became a video trainer. It was at the time of being a video trainer that Kris felt more responsibility towards the supplements he suggested to his audience, and so he started testing all sorts of supplements. There he began understanding the gaps in the food supplement industry. Wanting to bridge the health and performance sectors, he partnered with close friends who shared in his goal and they came up with Kaged Muscle. As Kris and his partners continued growing as people and professionals, so did Kaged Muscle. They began to feel they weren't doing themselves justice by remaining as Kaged Muscle. Some people thought the brand was too hardcore. If they wanted to help MORE people achieve their health goals, they had to balance “healthy” and “hardcore”. To reach target audience from different age groups, lifestyles, and other demographics, Kaged Muscle had to evolve. Still about muscle, still hardcore, but now, KAGED means something MORE! What makes the brand better? What NEW benefits can you expect? How does KAGED give more people the chance at great health and a full life? Check out this episode to learn more about finding new purpose through evolution, and what the NEW and Improved [KAGED] has in store for you! ---------------- Follow me on Instagram and feel free to DM about 1-1 online training @krisgethin Do you need elite sports supplements you can trust to help you achieve your goals in the gym and in life?
Coach William Grazione was recently on Beyond the Bikini Radio, hosted by Nicole Ferrier, and on this episode, we share that very special talk. We go over why Coach Will started his mission to transform the fitness industry to help prioritize women's health through proper nutrition and education and create a new generation of health-focused nutrition coaches. Nicole and Will discuss the concerning factors at play when coaching women and the three different dieting phases: lean, restore, and build. The two will address the fears that concern female clients who need to restore their health before engaging in another fat loss transformation. They will address the importance of monitoring your hormone levels and other health markers through lab testing and how to get it. Will and Nicole will touch on why we see women steering towards harmful and aggressive workout habits more so than men in the nutritional coaching world and learn what it will take to tackle the change that needs to happen in diet culture.
Today, I am thrilled and honored to be talking to Dr. Alexandra Sowa. Dr. Sowa is a dual board-certified physician of internal medicine, specializing in metabolic health, and clinical instructor of medicine at NYU Langone. She has served as a health expert for national media outlets and print publications like SiriusXM, CBS News, NPR, the New York Times, U.S. News, World Report, and more. In addition to her private practice in NYC, she is the founder of SoWell Health, a consumer metabolic health company. Over the years, people kept complaining to Dr. Sowa about weight gain, decreased endurance, brain fog, and irregular periods, even when their doctors had told them they were healthy and their labs looked fine. When Dr. Sowa checked their labs, however, she would immediately see that they had metabolic syndrome, an underactive thyroid, a vitamin deficiency, and in 90% of the cases, insulin resistance too. During the turbulent period of the pandemic, Dr. Sowa finally had the time to sit and think about how she could help those patients. She came up with a unique solution and developed a home-testing kit to assess and address the symptoms of people's metabolic health issues. In this episode, we discuss the scope of metabolic health in the U.S., and Dr. Sowa explains how she came up with her Weight Biology Kit. We talk about the importance of making the right nutritional choices and improving your health by making better lifestyle decisions. We dive into the role of using technology to monitor health, the influence of alcohol, and using Naltrexone to overcome alcohol cravings. We also unpack the notions of cheat days and biohacking in the wellness space. Remember to check out Dr. Sowa's Weight Biology Kit, a point-of-care testing kit for insulin resistance. Stay tuned for more! IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: How Dr. Sowa came up with her home-testing kit to address people's metabolic issues. Insulin is often the first biomarker to become dysregulated as people move towards insulin resistance. Dr. Sowa explains why insulin is a better predictor than blood sugar of where people are in terms of their metabolic health. Why do people with high insulin levels gain weight even if they are calorie-restricting and eating very little? How does nutrition impact metabolic health? The two most important things you can do to improve your health if you have elevated insulin, and you show signs of insulin resistance. Three lifestyle changes that, in addition to better nutrition, can be instrumental in helping improve fasting insulin and blood sugar levels. The disruptive role alcohol can play in your metabolic health. Some tips for overcoming alcohol cravings. Why is it best to avoid having cheat days? The benefits of journaling, as a motivator for changing behavior. The roles technology and biohacking can play in metabolic health. The eight areas that get tested in Dr. Sowa's core point-of-care home testing products. Dr. Sowa explains what the HOMA-IR score is.
