Episode kali ini kita ditemani Monita Tahalea Monita mengawali kariernya di dunia musik dengan berpartisipasi dalam ajang pencarian bakat pada tahun 2005. Setelah ajang pencarian bakat tepatnya pada tahun 2007, Monita berkolaborasi dalam album Kemenangan Hati milik Yovie Widianto dengan singel "Kekasih Sejati" yang saat itu langsung menjadi perhatian penikmat musik Indonesia. Monita mendapatkan kesempatan dan perhatian produser musik Jazz yakni Indra Lesmana untuk memproduseri album perdananya yang juga bergenre jazz dengan judul Dream, Hope & Faith pada tahun 2010. Pada Agustus 2013, Monita bersama merilis sebuah album mini "Songs of Praise". Monita berkolaborasi dengan Glenn Fredly dan Mohammad Istiqamah Djamad vokalis grup musik Payung Teduh dalam lagu "Filosofi & Logika" sebagai jalur suara untuk film Filosofi Kopi the Movie. Monita merilis album kedua secara Indie yang diproduseri bersama Gerald Situmorang dengan judul "Dandelion" pada tahun 2015 yang dimana Album tersebut termasuk dalam 20 Album Indonesia Terbaik versi Rolling Stone Indonesia. Monita kemudian merilis album ketiga yang diproduseri oleh Indra Perkasa dengan judul "Dari Balik Jendela" yang dirilis pada tahun 2020. Pada tahun 2024, Monita kembali menyapa penikmat musik lewat kolaborasinya dengan Teddy Adhitya dalam single berjudul “Labuan Hati”. Ini menjadi rilisan pertama Monita di tahun ini. Monita menyebut single barunya ini merupakan pembuka untuk menuju album yang akan datang. “Labuan Hati” berkisah tentang keindahan akan jatuh cinta, yang dihidupkan dengan harmonis oleh perpaduan suara Monita dan Teddy. Parlant de la transmission de François-Joseph Fournier à sa fille aînée Monita : « C'était sa fille aînée (…) Maman était très curieuse, il l'a vraiment formée, ça l'a façonnée (…) Il se passionnait pour son éducation, lui a donné l'esprit d'entreprise  (…) Il faisait des récits aussi (…) il avait ce sens de l'aventure pour la postérité ; Il lui a transmis 2 choses : l'esprit d'aventure et  la volonté de rester fidèle à l'esprit et à l'utopie de son père »Petite fille de François Joseph Fournier, Claudine Richet Paquin a grandi à Porquerolles au début des années 50 jusqu'à l'âge de ses 4 ans. En âge d'aller à l'école, ses parents décident de partir s'installer à Paris, où elle va passer une grande partie de sa vie et y faire carrière en tant que chercheuse au CNRS. Claudine s'est installée dans le sud-ouest pour sa retraite. Porquerolles est toujours restée présente dans sa vie, puisqu'elle y revenait régulièrement en vacances et continue d'y passer de longs séjours hors saison, où elle aime voir s'y rassembler sa famille et ses amis. Elle a permis la publication l'année dernière d'un ouvrage écrit par sa mère Monita Fournier Richet intitulé « 39-45, vu de Porquerolles », document historique précieux sur une période peu documentée sur l'île. Il s'agit du témoignage de Monita Fournier Richet, sur cette période qu'elle a vécu en première ligne puisqu'au décès de son père FJ Fournier, alors qu'elle n'a que 22 ans, elle va être chargée avec sa sœur Doria, de gérer l'héritage de son père, dont le domaine de Porquerolles qui couvre alors presque toute l'île a l'exception de quelques maisons. Elle s'occupe de la culture de la vigne, des cultures de la ferme, gère la ligne maritime qui relie l'île au continent. Et quand la guerre menace, elle devient l'interlocutrice privilégiée du gouvernement, fait face aux Italiens puis aux allemands qui occupèrent l'île successivement entre 42 et 44.Lourde responsabilité pour une jeune femme d'à peine 25 ans. Avec Claudine, nous avons remonté le fil de l'histoire familiale pour comprendre où Monita est allée puiser sa force et sa détermination, et en quoi rester fidèle à l'utopie de son père a guidé ses actions tout au long de sa vie. Un témoignage passionnant dans lequel Claudine nous partage avec générosité et sincérité un pan de son histoire familiale et de celle de l'île, ce qu'elle nomme « nostalgie agricole » et sa vision plus personnelle des enjeux et de l'avenir de Porquerolles. En âge d’aller à l’école, ses parents décident de partir s’installer à Paris, où elle va passer une grande partie de sa vie et y faire carrière en tant que chercheuse au CNRS. Claudine s’est installée dans le sud-ouest pour sa retraite. Porquerolles est toujours restée présente dans sa vie, puisqu’elle y revenait régulièrement en vacances et continue d’y passer de longs séjours hors saison, où elle aime voir s’y rassembler sa famille et ses amis. Elle a permis la publication l’année dernière d’un ouvrage écrit par sa mère Monita Fournier Richet intitulé « 39-45, vu de Porquerolles », document historique précieux sur une période peu documentée sur l’île. Il s’agit du témoignage de Monita Fournier Richet, sur cette période qu’elle a vécu en première ligne puisqu’au décès de son père FJ Fournier, alors qu’elle n’a que 22 ans, elle va être chargée avec sa sœur Doria, de gérer l’héritage de son père, dont le domaine de Porquerolles qui couvre alors presque toute l’île a l’exception de quelques maisons. Elle s’occupe de la culture de la vigne, des cultures de la ferme, gère la ligne maritime qui relie l’île au continent. Et quand la guerre menace, elle devient l’interlocutrice privilégiée du gouvernement, fait face aux Italiens puis aux allemands qui occupèrent l’île successivement entre 42 et 44.Lourde responsabilité pour une jeune femme d’à peine 25 ans. Avec Claudine, nous avons remonté le fil de l’histoire familiale pour comprendre où Monita est allée puiser sa force et sa détermination, et en quoi rester fidèle à l’utopie de son père a guidé ses actions tout au long de sa vie. Un témoignage passionnant dans lequel Claudine nous partage avec générosité et sincérité un pan de son histoire familiale et de celle de l’île, ce qu’elle nomme « nostalgie agricole » et sa vision plus personnelle des enjeux et de l’avenir de Porquerolles. Monita and Kate discuss a recently released debut novel by Nev March. Ms. March is a Parsee Zoroastrian and currently lives in New Jersey. She won the Minotaur Books/Mystery Writers of America Award for Best First Crime Fiction. This book is set in nineteenth century India ruled primarily by Great Britain, The mystery is based on a true story of two young Parsee women falling off of a tower at the university. Ms. March turns that event into a exciting story with many locations, interesting characters and a forbidden romance. The podcasters give some added insight into their feelings about the story and ideas about making an adventure series starring the dashing Captain Jim.

Monita and Kate discuss the latest mystery novel by Louise Penny. This is the 16th novel featuring Inspector Gamache of the Surete' du Quebec. This one is a bit different since most of it takes place in Paris instead the of the Canadian Province of Quebec. But don't worry because some of our favorite characters are back; most notably Armand Gamache's family, his godfather and of course Jean-Guy Beavoir. In this episode Monita and Kate discuss the most famous of Dame Agatha Christie's mystery novels with the Belgian detective extraordinaire, Hercule Poirot. The murder takes place during a fateful train journey from Istanbul to London with numerous and disparate people. The alibis are tight, clues are limited, but of course Poirot solves the mystery quite elegantly. They compare and contrast the 2017 movie starring Kenneth Branagh with the original 1934 novel. On episode #55 of the podcast Kyle is joined for a conversation on social justice and self reflection by the Senior Editor of Teaching Tolerance Magazine Monita Bell! Teaching Tolerance is a magazine that was created in 1991 with aim to nurture future generations to be more empathic and accepting of others. During our conversation we talked to Monita about her time as a professor in the English department of both Alabama State and Auburn and how the value of writing as a skill is that it allows you to appropriately navigate discourse. During our discussion of what resources and training are provided by Teaching Tolerance we were struck by how important it is for us as teachers to use self reflection as a tool when creating lessons centered around social justice. Monita used the term "our visible and invisible identity" to describe why we need to be reflective to understand our on biases. If we are not honest with ourselves it will be a challenge for us to create spaces for students to speak and learn about others. Lessons are broken down by grade level focus on IDENTITY, DIVERSITY, JUSTICE, and ACTION.
