Today, we're heading straight into the dust, danger, and drama of the wild west with a very special guest—director and writer Brian Skiba—who joins us to talk about his latest film, GUNSLINGERS.Starring Stephen Dorff, Heather Graham, and Academy Award Winner Nicolas Cage, GUNSLINGERS is a gritty, high-octane Western thriller where justice rides on a hair trigger. When America's most wanted outlaw lands in a quiet Kentucky town, chaos erupts—brothers clash, bullets fly, and vengeance rides hard and fast.In this conversation, Brian gives us an inside look at crafting the story, assembling an all-star cast, and what it takes to bring an explosive modern Western to life.

When the most wanted man in America surfaces in a small Kentucky town, his violent history ― and a bloodthirsty mob seeking vengeance and a king's ransom ― soon follow. As brothers face off against one another and bullets tear the town to shreds, this lightning-fast gunslinger makes his enemies pay the ultimate price for their greed. Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage, Stephen Dorff, and Heather Graham star in this action-packed Western-thriller about true justice in the Wild West. DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT - BRIAN SKIBA The Western genre has always carried a timeless allure—tales of justice, revenge, and survival in the face of lawlessness. With Gunslingers, I wanted to create a film that not only honors the great Westerns that came before but also brings something fresh and bold to the table. This film is about outlaws, redemption, and the harsh reality of a world where the line between good and evil is razor-thin. Bringing Gunslingers to life has been a journey of passion and perseverance, a two-year odyssey filled with challenges and triumphs. At its core, this is a story about a wanted man who stumbles upon a hidden town—a sanctuary for criminals—only to realize that salvation comes at a cost. When a relentless posse arrives to collect on the town's entire population, the stage is set for an explosive battle where survival is the only currency that matters. With an extraordinary cast led by Stephen Dorff, Heather Graham, and Nicolas Cage, we've crafted a world that feels gritty, raw, and authentically Western. Their performances bring depth and intensity to the story, breathing life into characters who exist in a world where justice is often a matter of who draws first. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of Grindstone executive Barry Brooker and my producing partner/star, Laurie Love, whose dedication helped shape this film into what it is today. Gunslingers is more than just a Western—it's a film about the choices we make when the odds are against us. It's a tribute to the spirit of those who refuse to back down, who fight for their survival, no matter the cost. For fans of the genre, this is a must-watch, and I can't wait for audiences to experience the world we've built.   Stay connected with me here.

This week on BEHIND THE LENS we're going from the Old West down into the deep blue, or not so blue, sea, discussing two wonderful films with two terrific filmmakers – LAST BREATH and GUNSLINGERS. First up, take a listen to my exclusive interview with director ALEX PARKINSON talking about LAST BREATH. Currently in theatres, LAST BREATH is a heart-pounding film that follows seasoned deep-sea divers as they battle the raging elements to rescue their crewmate trapped hundreds of feet below the ocean's surface. Based on a true story of events that occurred in 2012, as well as Alex's 2019 documentary on the incident, LAST BREATH is an electrifying story about teamwork, resilience, and a race against time to do the impossible. Then it's time to hear from writer, director, and editor BRIAN SKIBA talking about his new film, the rootin' tootin' western GUNSLINGERS. Talk about a fun film! Action packed, lots of shootouts, a hanging, a solid story with amazing cast, cinematic in scope thanks to widescreen scenes, and it's got Nicolas "Fucking" Cage(!!!!!) in another one of his unique, show stopping, and indelible roles. I always enjoy speaking with Brian, especially when it comes to westerns and he has outdone himself with GUNSLINGERS. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Y'all ever wonder how the Wild West REALLY got wild? American Primeval takes us back to a time when survival wasn't just about being the fastest gun—it was about being the meanest, toughest, and most unhinged. If you thought your family had drama, wait till you see the bloodlines running through this one. Netflix's latest gritty, brutal, and straight-up savage limited series dives into the raw, bloody origins of the American frontier. With settlers, outlaws, and indigenous warriors fighting for survival, this ain't your sanitized cowboy tale—this is frontier chaos, where every handshake comes with a hidden knife. The TruVue crew had to break this one down the only way we know how—with barbershop energy, NSFW takes, and absolutely no historical accuracy checks. From axe-swinging brawls to shootouts messier than your uncle's cookout plate, American Primeval doesn't hold back. But does it bring something fresh to the genre, or is this just another "gritty" Western trying too hard? We get into all of it—the good, the bad, and the downright brutal. So saddle up, because this ain't no bedtime story.

The RPGBOT crew dives into the madness, covering everything from gadget-wielding Inventors to Gunslingers finally getting the respect they deserve. Highlights include: Overdrive no longer punishing you for trying Firearms with enough kickback to send you into the next campaign setting The Harmona gun, because apparently, we needed a weapon specifically for hunting elephants Gadget Skates and Blast Boots proving that fashion and explosions CAN mix A technological wheelchair, making combat both more inclusive and way more stylish If you like high-speed chases, overly complicated weaponry, and questioning whether all of this is actually balanced (spoiler: it is, but barely), you need to check this out. Saddle up, grab your gnome amalgam musket, and prepare for the most mechanically unhinged ride in Pathfinder history. Links Guns and Gears Remastered (affiliate link) Guns and Gears Review from the RPGBOT.Podcast Episode Summary Welcome to the wild world of Guns & Gears Remastered, where firearms meet finely tuned mechanical madness. The hosts take a deep dive into the updated Inventor and Gunslinger classes, the Automaton ancestry, and the fallout from the OGL fiasco that led to the Pathfinder Remaster. Expect heated discussions on whether all weapons are viable (spoiler: yes, but also no), how Overdrive is now slightly less heartbreaking, and why the Harmona gun is just excessive (unless you're an elephant, then it's terrifying). The crew also explores the absurdity of gadgets, gizmos, and gloriously impractical firearms, questioning just how many springs, cogs, and explosives one character really needs. The answer is always more. The episode also highlights the introduction of a technological wheelchair, making combat more accessible and proving that even in a world of magic and mayhem, inclusivity matters. So grab your gnome amalgam musket, strap on your Gadget Skates, and get ready for a mechanically enhanced ride through Pathfinder's most ridiculous (but undeniably fun) rulebook. Key Takeaways Inventors Gonna Invent – The Inventor class is all about making wild contraptions and hitting things with them. Who needs spells when you have gadgets? Slingers Get Some Love – The Gunslinger class gets a well-deserved glow-up, proving that gunpowder and class mechanics can mix well. Overdrive Wins, Even on Failure – Now players still get a minor bonus even when their roll goes horribly wrong. Automatons Are Steampunk Terminators – The Automaton ancestry lets players live their best robotic medieval fantasy dreams. OGL Fiasco Leads to a Pathfinder Remaster – The fallout from the licensing mess led to this refined edition. No new content, just streamlined and improved mechanics. Gadgets Are Not Gizmos – They are mechanical consumables with distinct rules, and the difference may or may not confuse players forever. Ridiculous But Effective – Blast Boots, Gadget Skates, and absurd firearm traits add both strategy and pure chaos to combat. Harmona Gun is Overkill in a Barrel – A gun designed specifically for hunting elephants, with a massive 1d10 damage die, because apparently subtlety is overrated. Mount Up or Brace for Recoil – Firing certain firearms on horseback cancels out their kickback penalty, making mounts the unsung heroes of gunfighting. Firearms Have Range and Quirks – Scatter blasts, kickback mechanics, and fatal aim traits introduce both tactical depth and comic relief. Vehicles and Combat Drivers Expand the Game – High-speed chases and mechanized warfare are now part of the Pathfinder experience. Technological Wheelchair Brings Inclusivity – One of the most impactful additions, ensuring that mobility aids can be just as powerful as any warhorse. Pathfinder Embraces Maximum Absurdity – The Guns & Gears book (and this episode) prove that the best RPGs allow players to embrace the fun, the chaos, and the sheer unpredictability of a well-placed gadget. Guns & Gears Remastered is an absolute blast. Whether you're an engineer of doom, a sharpshooter with a flair for the dramatic, or just someone who wants to ride into battle on a mechanical unicycle, this book has something for you. Now go forth and build the most impractical, over-engineered character imaginable. “The man in black fled across the desert, and the podcaster followed…”   Welcome to the start of what is sure to be an epic journey. Step by step, over more than a dozen episodes, Talking Scared will be following the beam all the way to the Dark Tower – that mad edifice at the heart of Stephen King's opus. Maybe it's the heart of every story ever told… time will tell.   Unlike Roland Deschain, I don't go alone. I'm joined by author and fellow King-nut, Nat Cassidy (Mary, Nestlings, When the Wolf Comes Home) and absolute newbie, Chris Panatier (The Phlebotomist, The Redemption of Morgan Bright) and in this first ever episode we tussle with the tricky, dusty, thorny opening that is Book One: The Gunslinger.   What follows dives deep into the book, but is 100% spoiler free about anything beyond it. So if you've only read The Gunslinger, you're good to go.   I hope you enjoy our wanderings. I hope you tinct. I hope you darkle.   Other books mentioned:   On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft (2000), by Stephen King It (1986), by Stephen King The Jerusalem Man (1988), by David Gemmell The Book of the New Sun (series, 1980-1987), by Gene Wolfe   Support Talking Scared on Patreon   Come talk books on Twitter @talkscaredpod, on Instagram, or email direct to talkingscaredpod@gmail.com Learn more about your ad choices. In the immortal words of legendary author Stephen King " The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed. The desert was the apotheosis of all deserts, huge, standing to the sky for what looked like eternity in all directions." The Dark Tower novel series written by Stephen King was originally published in 1982 with a world set in a Western with elements of the dark supernatural fantasy. The story follows the adventures of Roland Deschain, son of Steven of the House of Eld as The Gunslinger purses his quest to reach the Dark Tower, the center of the universes and his vengeance upon The Man In Black. Regarded as Stephen Kings magnum opus, this series was adapted into the comic book format published by Marvel Comics in 2007 by the incredible comic book team of Robin Furth, scripts by Peter David, and art by Jae Lee and Richard Isanove. During this podcast we will discuss the history of the series, adaptations of Dark Tower, the first arc of this story in the graphic novel collections and so much more.
