It can also identify over exposure to toxic metals such as arsenic, aluminium, mercury and lead. HTMA provides valuable information on existing health conditions. In this episode I'm joined by Lauren Turner, the owner and trainer of Ideal Dog in the United States, to discuss her work in the dog training industry and how she came to realise the importance of nutrition in behaviour modification. Lauren received a Bachelor's of Science in Behavioral Science from the U.S. Air Force Academy, then started her adult career in the U.S. Air Force where she served for five years as a Special Agent with the Office of Special Investigations.  The moment she was able, Lauren rescued a young pit bull from an animal shelter in Georgia who was scheduled to be euthanised within a few hours. This dog would later become Lauren's ignition for entering the dog training industry.  Once Lauren separated from the Air Force, she immediately followed her passion and opened Ideal Dog.  Lauren separates herself from traditional dog training services because she strives to provide exceptional, lifelong dog training results by training and rehabilitating dogs holistically.  She helps each dog she works with realise their full potential by not only teaching the dog new behaviours, but ensuring they are thriving physically via nutrition and movement analysis, and making certain they are living a fulfilling life via appropriate physical outlets and leadership within the home.  Join me as we listen to Lauren's story and hear case studies which highlight the amazing results she has achieved through diet modification. Most people will have heard the saying - “you are what you eat” but in reality, you are what you absorb! Research suggests that at least 50% of Australian and US adults experience digestive symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhoea and constipation. Unfortunately, our dogs are following in our footsteps, with digestive issues being the most common canine health problem that vets see. In this episode I discuss the ins-and-outs of digestive enzymes for both people and pets - what are they, the different types, causes of enzyme deficiency, how to know if you need one, food and supplemental sources, along with applications for both people and dogs. Before you get started on your journey into all things natural health, I thought I should introduce myself! I'm a clinical naturopath, nutritionist, herbalist and owner of the wellness clinic ‘Natural Health and Nutrition’. I operate my own private practice in Sydney, whilst also working part-time as a Research Officer for a healthcare company. I've worked as a research scientist in one form or another for over 20 years, with a primary focus on human health and nutrition. However, being a lifelong dog-owner and currently meeting the demands of three French Bulldogs, a German Shepherd and a Burmese cat, I became as passionate about the health and wellbeing of our pets as I was about their owners. And it was this strong desire to see my own pets live their longest and best lives that led me to hours of personal research and additional study in the area of natural animal health and nutrition.  There is so much conflicting information on social media and the internet, making it hard for people to know what’s true and what’s not - or if it's just old wives tales and Chinese whispers! And that's where I come in. With my education and training, it is my job to understand what works and what doesn’t – what’s evidenced based and what’s not. Given my strong scientific background, I continually strive to provide the most up-to-date and evidence-based information as it relates to both humans and dogs. My goal is to educate and empower you to own your path to optimal health. So sit back and enjoy the show :-) If you have questions you'd like answered on the show, please email me at: hello@naturalhealthandnutrition.com.au For discussions about show topics, please go to the Facebook page: Natural Health for People and Pets Further information can be found on my website: Natural Health and Nutrition The information provided on the Natural Health for People and Pets podcast is for educational and informational purposes only.
