1. Lack of sleep You could feel exhausted all the time simply because you lack sleep. Alcohol, overtraining, and eating too late can interfere with sleep. Chocolate consumption can increase theobromine, similar to caffeine, which can interfere with sleep if consumed too late. Try taking magnesium one hour before bed to help you relax. Vitamin B1 is also vital for quality sleep. Did you know that going outside in the morning to watch the sunrise can improve your sleep? Try it!2. Cellular hypothyroidismThyroid hormones go into every cell in your body, controlling metabolism and energy levels. If your thyroid is not working properly, you will likely experience fatigue. Increase selenium to improve thyroid function. Brazil nuts, sardines, shellfish, and grass-fed liver are excellent sources of selenium.3. StressA severe stress, such as the loss of a loved one, can cause your immune system to shut down because of the cortisol spike. This allows latent viruses like the Epstein-Barr virus to come out of remission and cause chronic fatigue syndrome. High doses of vitamin D can help.Try making your own L. reuteri yogurt, one of the best remedies for high cortisol. Increasing magnesium and sodium and taking long walks in the woods can also reduce cortisol levels. 4. Histamine overload An enzyme in your body naturally breaks down histamine. Alcohol, medications, and gut damage can inhibit this enzyme's function, increasing histamine levels. Avoid aged cheeses, vinegar, canned fish, and fermented vegetables if you suspect a histamine sensitivity. 5. Blood sugarConsuming high amounts of carbohydrates or sugar during the day often leads to blood sugar fluctuations at night. Frequent night waking decreases energy during the day. Carb consumption depletes vitamin B1, which can cause restless legs syndrome, waking you up.6. Sleep disturbances Sleep apnea and being too hot or too cold can interfere with your sleep. Frequent urination caused by too much snacking or too many carbs can also be the culprit. 7. Protein intake If you're not consuming enough high-quality protein, it could be the reason you're feeling exhausted all the time. Try adding more protein to each meal for a significant improvement in energy. Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 60, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. Send us a textThis week on The Less Stressed Life Podcast, I'm answering two listener questions—one about histamine intolerance and another about gut testing for a 3-year-old with allergies and chronic symptoms. If you've ever wondered whether histamine is really the problem or if stool testing is worth the investment, this episode is for you.In this episode, I share why histamine intolerance is almost always a secondary issue (not the root cause), what body systems need support instead, and how I approach gut testing in young kids—especially when allergies, itching, and immune symptoms are involved. I also walk through how to think critically about testing and what questions to ask before you invest.KEY TAKEAWAYS:Why histamine isn't the root cause—and what usually isHow symptoms like allergies, flushing, anxiety, or hives can signal deeper dysfunctionWhen DAO enzymes might help—and why I rarely use themWhat the GI MAP stool test actually reveals (and what it doesn't)The #1 mistake people make with testing—and how to avoid itHow to think like a practitioner when evaluating symptoms, history, and lab data❓Questions for Christa? In this episode of the School of Doza podcast, we explore how to LOWER Your Histamine Levels Naturally!. Nurse Doza breaks down common high-histamine triggers, why your symptoms may be tied to gut health, and how to support your body naturally—without relying solely on medication. 5 KEY TAKEAWAYS Hidden sources of histamine are often found in your everyday diet and environment. Gut dysfunction is one of the biggest reasons histamine levels stay elevated. Stress and inflammation can worsen histamine intolerance symptoms. Antihistamines aren't the only solution—natural detox pathways play a major role. Supporting liver and gallbladder function is key to keeping histamine levels in check. The Good Poops Protocol is a full-body protocol that supports the gut, liver, and gallbladder—three major players in regulating histamine naturally. Whether you're struggling with bloating, skin issues, or seasonal flare-ups, this protocol helps you reset digestion, support detox pathways, and feel better from the inside out. In this encore episode, we detail the intestinal mycobiome and the mechanisms by which beneficial microbes aid in regulating opportunistic fungal species: Candida albicans. We discuss Candida overgrowth virulence and how disruptions in microbial balance, immune function, and epithelial integrity impact Candida's pathogenicity. Additionally, we discuss the role of mast cells in the lamina propria, their involvement in mucosal immunity, and how Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) can be exacerbated by fungal dysbiosis / microbial imbalances.Topics: 1. Introduction - The intestinal mycobiome and its role in intestinal health. - Regulating populations of opportunistic fungal species like Candida albicans.- Mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) intro. 2. Structure of the Intestinal Barrier- The microbiome and mucus layer: microbes, mucins, antimicrobial peptides, sIgA.- The epithelial monolayer: enterocytes, goblet cells, Paneth cells, enteroendocrine cells…- Tight junction proteins and paracellular transport.- The lamina propria beneath the epithelium: immune cells and more. 3. Candida's Pathogenicity and Barrier Disruption- Exists primarily in its yeast form, regulated by microbial competition, host immune defenses, antifungal peptides. - Secretory IgA (sIgA) and immune surveillance mechanisms help regulate fungal populations. - Chronic stress, immune suppression, and dysbiosis can deplete sIgA, increasing susceptibility to Candida proliferation. - Environmental triggers such as immune suppression, microbial depletion, inflammatory cytokines.- Yeast-to-hyphal transition, deeper tissue invasion. - Secreted aspartyl proteinases (SAPs), phospholipases, candidalysin: epithelial damage.- Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) and overgrowth detection. 4. Impact of Beneficial Bacteria on Candida Overgrowth - Beneficial bacteria compete with Candida for nutrients and epithelial adhesion sites. - Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) produced by beneficial bacteria.- Depletion of beneficial bacteria removes ecological resistance, allowing Candida to proliferate unchecked. 5. Mast Cells in the Lamina Propria and Their Role in Intestinal Immunity- Mast cell location - Upon activation, mast cells release histamine, cytokines, proteases, and more that regulate gut immune responses. - Histamine can increase gut permeability and modulate local immune activation. - Tryptase and chymase. - Pro-inflammatory cytokines. 6. Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) - Mast cell hyperactivation.- Environmental triggers, toxins, chronic infections, and stress. - Candida overgrowth and mast cell activation.- Addressing microbial imbalances and reducing the body's total microbial, chemical, and toxin burden.- A diverse microbiome. 7. Conclusion- Candida overgrowth and regulation via immune defenses and beneficial bacterial competition.- MCAS, root cause approach.Get Chloe's Book Today! If you're navigating midlife and feeling like your body has started working against you—despite clean eating and consistent workouts—this episode is your wake-up call. Angela is joined by functional nutritionist Louise Digby to explore the lesser-known culprits behind stubborn weight, fatigue, and hormonal havoc in perimenopause. Forget willpower. This conversation reframes weight loss resistance through the lens of gut health, toxic load, and nutrient insufficiencies. From brittle nails and dry skin to unexpected acne flare-ups, Louise uncovers the hidden metabolic and hormonal messages your body is sending—and how to respond with science, not shame. KEY TAKEAWAYS Gut Health Trumps Willpower: Many women have gut imbalances without symptoms—but these silent issues can stall fat loss and disrupt hormones. Toxic Load Sabotages Hormones: Environmental toxins from skincare, pollutants, and food can overwhelm your liver and impair hormone detox pathways. Nutrient Insufficiencies Are Common: Even with a healthy diet, modern stress and poor soil deplete key nutrients like magnesium, B vitamins, and vitamin D. Metabolic Clues You’re Missing: Cold hands, brittle nails, poor recovery, and stubborn weight can all signal compromised metabolic health—not laziness. Histamine intolerance is more than just allergies. In this episode, Liz and Becca break down the root causes of histamine overload and why symptoms like bloating, rashes, fatigue, food reactions, and mood swings could all point to poor histamine metabolism—not random sensitivities. You'll learn how stress, gut imbalances, SIBO, poor DAO enzyme function, and even your genetics can all trigger histamine issues—and why fermented foods, collagen, and kombucha might be making your symptoms worse. If you've tried elimination diets or allergy meds and still feel inflamed, puffy, or reactive… this episode is your missing piece. ***
In this encore episode, we discuss the role of histamine within the gastrointestinal tract, detailing its regulation of gastric acid secretion and impact on intestinal motility. We examine how histamine-producing enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells, mast cells, and gut microbiota contribute to histaminergic signaling, and how enzymatic degradation via diamine oxidase (DAO) maintains homeostasis. Additionally, we discuss histamine intolerance, highlighting the impacts of dysbiosis (as well as SIBO or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and intestinal barrier dysfunction on DAO insufficiency and histamine accumulation.Topics: 1. Introduction to Histamine & the Gastrointestinal Tract- Role in digestion and motility- Impact of intestinal conditions such as SIBO 2. Histamine as a Biogenic Amine- Definition and classification- L-histidine and histidine decarboxylase (HDC)- Presence in various tissues, including the GI tract 3. Sources of Histamine in the Gut- Enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells in the stomach- Mast cells in the lamina propria- Histamine-producing gut bacteria 4. Histamine's Role in Digestion & Gastric Acid Secretion- Interaction with parietal cells in the stomach- Activation of proton pumps via H₂ receptor binding- Maintenance of acidic pH for digestion- Importance of proper pH within the stomach for protecting against pathogenic microbes- Impact on downstream gut microbiota balance (e.g., SIBO) 5. Histamine & Intestinal Motility- Modulation of gut motility via H₁ and H₃ receptors- H₁ receptor activation leading to contractions (diarrhea, cramping)- H₃ receptor-mediated inhibition of neurotransmitter release (bloating, slow motility) 6. Histamine Intolerance: Definition & Mechanisms- Diamine Oxidase and histamine breakdown- DAO secretion by enterocytes (intestinal epithelial cells)- Enzymatic breakdown of histamine before absorption 7. Factors That Can Affect DAO Activity- Genetic Polymorphisms: AOC1 gene, reduced DAO expression- Cofactor Deficiencies: Copper, vitamin B6, and vitamin C as essential DAO cofactors- Importance of intestinal lining integrity for DAO production- Conditions leading to or associated with enterocyte damage- Intestinal dysbiosis and histamine accumulation- Intestinal dysbiosis & epithelial/enterocyte damage- Suppression of DAO production due to epithelial dysfunction- Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) & Histamine 8. If you've ever felt like your body is falling apart and no doctor can tell you why—this episode is for you. I'm joined by Dr. Jaban Moore, a functional medicine chiropractor who's made it his mission to help people heal from the real root causes of chronic illness—especially the ones most doctors overlook. We get into two things that are finally getting the attention they deserve: nervous system dysregulation and autoimmune overwhelm—specifically Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and histamine intolerance. These are major reasons so many people are struggling with fatigue, food sensitivities, inflammation, reactivated viruses, and mystery symptoms that get dismissed as “just anxiety.” Dr. Jaban shares his own health journey and breaks down: The difference between histamine intolerance and MCAS Why your anxiety, pain, or fatigue might be coming from emotional trauma or nervous system chaos How foundational habits (sunlight, sleep, slowing down) matter more than any supplement Whether elimination diets and food sensitivity tests are healing or just bandaids If you'll ever be able to eat an avocado or tomato again (hint: yes, but not overnight) How to know if you're actually herxing… or just making things worse If you've been told your symptoms are “all in your head,” this conversation will feel like a breath of fresh air. You're not crazy. You're not broken. And yes—healing is possible. What if the very things you do to feel or look better are quietly making you feel worse? In this solo episode of the Bendy Bodies Podcast, Dr. Linda Bluestein answers listener questions—but what begins as a practical Q&A quickly dives into rarely discussed truths about cosmetic procedures, EMFs, neuroinflammation, and even fragrances as dangerous triggers. You'll hear surprising stories from patients who've suffered unexpected complications—and discover how seemingly harmless habits, like party tricks or perfume, could be tipping the scale toward long-term damage. Plus, Dr. Bluestein unpacks the case for renaming MCAS, the underrecognized connection between transness and hypermobility, and why your surgeon might not be as EDS-aware as they claim. If you think you've already heard it all about EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes), HSD (Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders), MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome), and chronic illness—you haven't heard this. Takeaways: You might be surprised to learn which test isn't as useful for diagnosing MCAS as people think. The brain fog you're feeling? There's a cellular player involved—and it's not just inflammation. Some reactions you're calling “allergies” might be something very different (and trickier to detect). The way mast cells interact with the brain could change how we think about neurodevelopment. A few supplements could help—but only if you're asking the right questions first. Today, I am thrilled to speak with Dr. Cory Jones to delve into the concept of the "middle pause," which refers to the transition from perimenopause to menopause. We'll examine how lifestyle habits that were effective in women's 20s and 30s may lose their efficacy during this phase. Dr. Jones emphasizes the reduced capacity to "burn the candle at both ends" and the transition from people-pleasing to more straightforward communication. We'll cover the behavioral impacts of hormonal changes, the significance of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and the importance of adrenal health. We both stress the need for women to seek supportive healthcare providers and embrace this transitional period. Tune in!
