Your body needs about 12 grams of glycine daily just for collagen synthesis, but can only make about 3 grams and gets 2 to 4 grams from a typical diet, leaving a notable 10-gram daily deficit in many adults This deficit isn't a disease. It's an evolutionary constraint built into human biochemistry. Our glycine synthesis pathway has a hard stoichiometric bottleneck that can never be overcome, regardless of how healthy you are Collagen makes up 25% to 30% of your total body protein, but its production is limited by glycine, which occupies every third position in the collagen chain. The procollagen quality control cycle destroys 30% to 50% of newly synthesized collagen, and some amino acids lost in this process cannot be fully recycled Over time, chronic glycine deficiency may contribute to changes in skin, joints, bones, gut lining, blood vessels, and sleep quality. Glycine deficiency has been observed across a range of conditions, including Type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, pregnancy, and xenobiotic exposure A 2025 meta-analysis reported that collagen peptide supplementation was associated with improvements in bone and muscle health markers in the populations studied, consistent with the idea that glycine availability may have functional implications

Collagen makes up a large share of your body's protein, yet production drops every year with age, which contributes to wrinkles, weaker connective tissue, reduced strength, and slower recovery Researchers identified a specific pattern of collagen amino acids — glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline — that may signal your body to repair tissue, support physical function, and influence biological aging Human participants who consumed a collagen amino acid formulation showed measurable improvements in skin texture, hydration, and elasticity within one to three months After six months, biological age markers shifted younger on average, suggesting that targeted collagen amino acid supplementation may influence internal aging processes rather than appearance alone Supporting collagen at the root involves adequate protein with collagen-rich sources, vitamin C intake, protection against collagen breakdown, and high-quality collagen or gelatin sourced from properly raised animals

We also discuss some of the skincare procedures you should NEVER do and, of course, the ones worth doing. If you've been stuck in burnout recovery doing all the right things and still feeling empty, exhausted, and disconnected - this episode is going to hit different. I'm going to the deepest root of nurse burnout that nobody talks about: identity. In this solo episode, Shan shares her personal journey from perfectionism and performance-driven living to freedom, and why understanding your God-given identity is the most clinically and spiritually sound path to sustainable burnout recovery. If you're a burned-out nurse, a high-achieving Christian woman, or a caregiver who is running on empty — this one is for you. IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN: Why perfectionism is the #1 identity trap for nurses — and why nursing school makes it worse The physiological toll of chronic stress and survival-mode living on your body (weight gain, inflammation, headaches, exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix) Why fear is not your enemy — it's a signpost pointing to the lies you believe about yourself and God What Isaiah 43:1 reveals about belonging, identity, and why God's answer to your fear is not "try harder" Why you can only give what you've received — and how a false identity silently affects your patients, your coworkers, and your family How identity is the foundation of true, lasting burnout recovery The first step in the CARE Method™ — and why Clarifying your identity comes before everything else KEYWORDS & SEARCHABLE TERMS nurse burnout, nurse burnout recovery, burnout recovery for nurses, Christian nurse, faith-based burnout recovery, holistic nurse burnout, perfectionism and burnout, perfectionism in nursing, nurse mental health, nurse wellness, nurse identity crisis, identity and burnout, burned out nurse, nursing school stress, nursing school anxiety, high-achieving woman burnout, Christian women burnout, faith and burnout, fear of failure nurses, fear of failure Christians, chronic stress nurses, stress and inflammation, cortisol and burnout, nervous system regulation nurses, holistic health nurse, nurse self-care, nurse empowerment, nurse podcast, Christian wellness podcast, burnout podcast for nurses, Isaiah 43:1, identity in Christ, Christian life coaching, holistic life coach nurse, CARE Method, burnout root cause, purpose after burnout, rest and burnout recovery, caregiver burnout, healthcare worker burnout, nurse coach, nurse entrepreneur, Beat Nurse Burnout RESOURCES & LINKS MENTIONED ✨ DISCOUNT LINK: One of the most powerful tools I use personally and recommend to every woman I coach is Liquid BioCell Collagen — a clinically studied, highly bioavailable collagen and hyaluronic acid complex that your body can actually absorb and use to repair what chronic stress is breaking down. The Truth About Cellulite (What No One Is Actually Telling You) Let's be honest — most of what you've heard about cellulite was designed to sell you something. In this episode, I'm breaking down the science, busting the biggest myths, and giving you a framework that actually makes sense for your body. What We Cover: What cellulite actually is — It's not a fat problem. It's a structural design. Women have vertically arranged connective tissue (septae) that allows fat to push up against the skin differently than it does in men. This is why 90% of women have cellulite and most men don't. Athletes have it. Thin women have it. It is not a measure of fitness or body fat percentage. Why it gets more noticeable in perimenopause — Estrogen directly influences collagen production and skin thickness. As estrogen declines, skin thins and loses elasticity — making the underlying structure more visible. This is biology, not failure. What the wellness industry gets wrong — Creams, dry brushing, and detox regimens don't change your connective tissue structure. Specific foods don't cause or cure cellulite. And yet there's a $4B+ industry built on selling you shame as a product. What actually has evidence — Collagen peptides with Vitamin C, resistance training, hydration, and perimenopause-supportive nutrition (protein, omega-3s, phytoestrogens) can support skin integrity and overall health. Honest disclaimer: cellulite reduction may be a side effect — not a guarantee. The real reframe — Your skin is doing exactly what skin does after decades of living, hormonal shifts, and gravity. The question isn't how do I get rid of it — it's what does my body actually need right now? Let's keep the conversation going... Standard collagen supplements get broken down to individual amino acids during digestion, but specific di- and tripeptides resist digestive enzymes, enter your bloodstream intact, and may act as signaling molecules that stimulate collagen production, fibroblast activity, and hyaluronic acid synthesis German company Gelita produces target-specific bioactive collagen peptide formulations for joints, skin, and bone, each backed by randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials The Japanese company Nitta Gelatin first identified these key bioactive dipeptides from within the collagen peptide molecule over a decade ago, and their Replenwell line contains up to 30 times more bioactive dipeptides than standard collagen A 2024 five-arm multicenter randomized controlled trial showed that 2.5 grams of concentrated bioactive collagen peptides matched the efficacy of 10 grams of conventional collagen — a four-fold potency advantage Gelita's consumer-available hydrolysate powder — roughly $40 for a pound — is currently a practical option, though a commonly studied intake is about 10 grams per day

Dr. William Davis also explains the hidden impact of modern foods, antibiotics, and environmental toxins on the microbiome, along with simple strategies to rebuild gut health, improve recovery, and create a stronger, healthier body from the inside out. In this episode, Lindsey breaks down what actually happens to collagen during perimenopause (hint: up to 30% loss in the first five years), why topical skincare alone can't fix it, and the dead-simple morning habit that makes internal collagen support something you'll actually stick to. What if I told you that some of the stress destroying your health right now has nothing to do with your patient load, your manager, or your schedule — and everything to do with what you are allowing into your mind every single day? Today we are talking about the hidden input that is quietly fueling your burnout — and more importantly, what to do about it. In this episode, Shan tackles one of the most overlooked drivers of nurse burnout — the mental and emotional inputs we are consuming every single day without realizing the toll they are taking on our nervous systems and our health. This episode covers: Why nurses are uniquely exposed to negative mental input — both on and off the clock The specific inputs quietly fueling your cortisol and inflammation How to audit and guard your mind the same way you protect your patients Practical strategies for setting limits on negative people, media, and break room culture What to intentionally fill your mind with to begin shifting your nervous system toward healing How the words you speak about yourself are shaping your body in real time Links mentioned:

If you've ever thought "it's just a cleaning, I can skip it," this episode is going to change the way you see that appointment forever. The hygiene visit is so much more than polishing teeth. It's one of the most powerful windows into your whole-body health, and most people have no idea what they're missing. Dr. Rachaele Carver sits down with Brenda Powers, RDHAP, a biological dental hygienist in Southern California, to pull back the curtain on what a truly comprehensive hygiene appointment can look like, and why it may be one of the most important health visits you make all year. What You'll Learn in This Episode:A biological hygienist doesn't just check your gums, she's reading your posture, your skin tone, your breathing, your sleep, and your stress levels from the moment you sit down in the chair.Salivary diagnostics can identify the specific pathogens living in your mouth, including bacteria linked to heart disease, Alzheimer's, and type 2 diabetes, even when your mouth looks "healthy."Biofilm is the sticky matrix where bacteria live and multiply on your teeth, and managing it daily at home is just as important as what happens in the office.Ozone therapy is a safe, non-surgical tool that kills harmful bacteria, promotes tissue healing, and can help patients get off the deep cleaning hamster wheel for good.Collagen, vitamin C, vitamin D, B complex, magnesium, and zinc are among the key nutrients that directly support gum and bone health, and most of us aren't getting enough from food alone.Connect With Brenda Powers: Instagram: @holistic_hygienist Website: rdhguru.com Email: rootdentalconsulting@gmail.comConnect With Dr. Rachaele Carver: Join the 6-Week Gum Disease CourseBook Your Personalized ConsultationIf this episode resonated with you, please share it with someone who needs to hear it.Disclaimer: This podcast is for educational purposes only. In this episode I sit down with Stephanie Taylor, cardiac ICU nurse, mom, and holistic health advocate -for a raw and real conversation about what burnout actually looks like when it lives in your body, not just your mind. Stephanie spent years at the bedside while her health quietly unraveled. Despite doing everything she knew to do like eating well, exercising, pushing through, she was exhausted, inflamed, in chronic pain, and carrying weight her body refused to let go of. At 5'2" and nearly 200 pounds, the number on the scale was the least of her concerns. She just didn't feel like herself anymore. What changed wasn't a new diet or workout program. It was learning to support her body at a cellular level — reducing inflammation, improving absorption, and giving her body what it needed to actually heal — not just cope. In this episode we talk about: What cardiac ICU nursing does to your body over time — and why "healthy habits" alone are not enough The moment Stephanie realized she wasn't aging poorly, she was just unsupported Why nurses are uniquely resistant to asking for help — and what it took for Stephanie to finally do it The role of holistic supplementation in healing inflammation, restoring energy, and losing weight sustainably How she rebuilt her health while still working ICU, raising a family, and living real life What she wants every burned-out nurse to know: you are not broken Whether you are deep in burnout, stuck in a cycle of trying and failing, or just running on fumes and wondering if this is as good as it gets — this episode will meet you where you are. GIFT FOR YOU: Happy Nurses Week and it is Mental Health Awareness Month and because I know you are dealing with chronic stress, I need to say: chronic stress is not just a feeling — it is a physical process that is aging your body, breaking down your collagen, disrupting your hormones, and quietly doing damage that compounds over time. My favorite tool to support the holistic body and combat this head on is Liquid BioCell. It is not just a collagen. It is a clinically studied, highly bioavailable collagen and hyaluronic acid matrix that your body can actually absorb and use. It supports your joints, your skin, your gut, your energy — and it directly addresses the physical breakdown that chronic stress causes. Because stress is aging us. And this is my favorite tool to fight back I want to extend an extra special coupon! This month, in honor of Nurses Week and Mental Health Awareness Month, I want to give you an extra $25 off. What actually supports radiant, youthful-looking skin? What role do lifestyle and biohacking strategies play in rejuvenation results? In this episode, we take a deeper look at the biology of skin aging and how to support your skin from the inside out. We explore how collagen production changes over time, why fibroblast activity is key for maintaining structure and elasticity, and what happens when senescent (“zombie”) cells begin to accumulate in the body.Radiance isn't created through one treatment or one product. It's built through consistency, through supporting your body at a cellular level, and through making choices that allow your skin to repair, regenerate, and thrive over time.Shop my skincare products to keep your skin looking radiant this season: https://alwaysradiantskinshop.com/Step into your Radiance Sanctuary in the Membership https://www.theschoolofradiance.com/membershipFor more resources related to today's episode, click here for the podcast episode page: https://www.theschoolofradiance.com/podcasts Follow Rachel Varga Official on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rachelvargaofficial/ —Catch full episodes of The School of Radiance Podcast here on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@RachelVargaOfficial —Subscribe to the YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@RachelVargaOfficial —Follow me here:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rachelvargaofficial/ Facebook: https://www.instagram.com/rachelvargaofficial/ Website: https://www.theschoolofradiance.com —FREE STUFF: Download my FREE Skincare Checklist, sign up for my FREE 30 minute biohack your way to clear skin and slowing aging training now, and my newsletter for promos and exclusive events just for you! https://www.theschoolofradiance.com/freebiesEveryone gets one FREE call! Protein powder should be simple, but the supplement industry has made it anything but. With dozens of types, misleading labels, and marketing designed to confuse, most women end up buying something that does not work for their body, their goals, or their digestion, and then blaming themselves when it does not feel right. In this episode of Embrace Your Real, I cut through all of it and give you a clear, practical guide to understanding what every main type of protein powder actually does, how to read a label without getting tricked, and how to figure out which one is the right fit for you. I also get into why bloating from protein powder is almost never about the protein itself, what collagen is actually missing that makes it an incomplete protein source, and why the best protein powder is simply the one you will actually use consistently. What's Discussed: Why protein powder causes so much unnecessary confusion and what this episode will clear up What protein powder actually is and the one reason it exists Whey concentrate, what it is, who it is for, and why it is the most straightforward starting point Whey isolate, how it differs from concentrate, and why bloating may not be about the whey at all Casein, why it digests differently, and when it actually makes sense to use it Plant based protein, why pea and rice combined gives you a more complete profile, and what to watch on the label Egg white protein, why it is having a moment, and who it works best for Bone broth protein, what it actually supports, and why it is not a primary protein source Collagen, what it is missing, and why it cannot replace a complete protein source How to read a label without getting tricked, what to look for and what to avoid The trial and error reality and how to figure out what actually works for your body If you want clarity on how to calculate and hit your daily protein target in a way that actually works for your real life, check out Macro Counting Made Simple at macrocountingmadesimple.com And if you want your training structured so your nutrition and recovery are always working together, head to movementwithjulie.com to get started inside the Movement With Julie app. If you loved this episode, you'll also love: 325: Why You Need Protein to Build the Body You Want.
