Here is the takeaway question that I would like for us to ask ourselves this morning. Most of us have experienced the steadfast love of God personally… However, what are we doing to exemplify that love to this broken and hurting world? Are we keeping this love of God to ourselves? Or are we demonstrating it in ways that those who are broken are attracted to that love? Are we living that love out?Originally presented June 27, 2021 at St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church
Rev. Harold looked at his scuffed up shoes and whispered a prayer, "God, this doesn't feel like ministry... none of this feels like ministry!"Based on Psalm 133; 2 Corinthians 6:1-13Originally presented at St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford, TX
"God doesn't want to scrap the old creation and start over. God wants to take us, in our brokenness and all and re-create. The same God who said "It is very good at creation, still says we are very Good today!"
"The first lesson in this series is the 'Spirit of Faith.” It is a faith not based on what we feel or even what we experience but rather on what we have seen God do for us in the past. All we have to do is be on the lookout for God's blessings. Based on: Psalm 130; 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1Originally presented June 6th 2021 at St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford Texas.
In this episode, Rev. Justin Westfall looks at the conversation Jesus had with Nicodemus and explores what it means to believe in Jesus. Based on John 3:1-17Originally presented May 30, 2021St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church
Jesus’ followers were all in one place, praying together, they were at one with each-other and with God. Suddenly a mighty wind blew into the room and there were tongues of fire and the whole place was filled with the Holy Spirit. It was God reaching out in love to these followers of Jesus through the Holy Spirit. There was such a noise coming from that upper room that it attracted quite the crowd. Based on Genesis 11:1-9; Acts 2:1-21Originally presented May 23, 2021St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church
Church is not an exclusive club, it is not a building or even an event. We are the church... in our brokenness and all. Based on Psalm 1 and John 17:6-19Originally presented May 16, 2021St Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford Texas
Evangelism… The word brings many negative images to our minds. What if evangelism was something more than asking people, "Are you saved?"Based on Acts 8:26-40 and 1 John 4:7-21Originally presented 5/9/2021St Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church

In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus is talking about when he returns in the clouds of glory at the end of the age. Jesus talks about the judgement, and, as I read this, the main thing God is interested in is how we treat others. The verdict which is read out is simply this, “Whatsoever you did/did not do to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Because Jesus dwells within our hearts, when we mistreat others, we mistreat Jesus.Originally presented 04/18/2021St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford Texas
"Scripture tells us that the early Christ followers added thousands to their numbers daily. Christianity, although it wasn’t called that until much later in history, was spreading like wildfire! Today, according to a report just released from Gallup shows that church membership has fallen to just below 47%! I have spent the better part my seminary life asking many questions… and the question of what makes a church successful was one of those questions. I have a few theories, but I really think that the stories of the early church can do a better job of answering that question than I could with my heady theories. Perhaps, going back to the beginnings, can help us in our context today and give us some insights on how to create healthy churches."Originally presented April 11th 2021St Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford, TX
"As we look at the account of the resurrection from John’s gospel, we see three people named in this version of the story… four, if you count Jesus… Then there were the angels. This morning I would like to look at those who experienced the empty tomb and explore what the resurrection meant to each."Originally presented Easter Day, April 5, 2021St Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church
"Jesus lived among humans healing the sick, casting out demons, and raising the dead. Jesus was fully God and fully human but as the author of Philippians 2:6-7 stated, 'Though he was in the form of God, he did not consider being equal with God something to exploit. But he emptied himself by taking the form of a slave and by becoming like human beings.'”Originally Preached March 28, 2021St Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford Texas
"Whenever Jesus talked about mustard seed faith, the original listener surely would have chuckled a little. Mustard seeds don't make big trees, they make invasive shrubs. Perhaps that was Jesus' whole point!"Originally presented March 21, 2021St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford
"Balak gave Balaam three opportunities at three different overlooks to curse the People of Israel, and each time, Balaam could only speak blessings... All because God interrupted Balaam in the middle of a road rage incident, while he was going about his life, looking out for his own interests. God turned the ordinary donkey ride on an ordinary donkey, into something extraordinary. "Originally presented March 14th, 2021St Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford, TX
"I wonder how many blessings do we miss out on for our lack of gratitude? How many blessings do we just flat out Miss because the manifestations of God are too small."Based on Exodus 16:4-5Originally presented March 7th 2021St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford Texas
"Jonah built a shelter for himself, and sat where he could see the hellfire and brimstone that he just knew was going to happen on Nineveh. Despite all that, God did something very nice for Jonah. He created a bush. That's the thing right there that I want us to catch. We we see the Jonah and the big fish, we see the big storm... we see God in all these things but but God appeared in a small Bush to provide shelter over Jonah's head. If we don't finish the story, and if we don't look for God in a small, we miss the whole point of the story."Based on Jonah 4:6-8Originally Preached February 28, 2021St Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bedford, TX
Scripture tells us that there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces, but YHWH was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but YHWH was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but YHWH was not in the fire; and after the fire a “sound of sheer silence.” When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice to him that said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” The link to the Brother Lawrence PDF Book referenced in the sermon is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xksvym788lkhkpf/Brother%20Lawrence.pdf?dl=0(The book is public domain) Based on 1 Kings 19:11-13Originally Preached February 21, 2021 at St Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church

Jesus calls each and every one of us to come and follow Him. Along with that call, Jesus gives us a job to do for further His Kingdom. Originally presented January 24th 2021 Based on Mark 1:14-20 and Jonah 1-4
God is so big, so far beyond our human comprehension, that we cannot possibly understand the full mystery of God. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try… God is glorified when we think and talk about God… even though our human understandings fall short.Based on Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18 and John 1:43-51
Cumberland Presbyterians see baptism as a sacrament. We baptize because God has taken one look at us… created in God’s image… and has said, “That’s my Son, that’s my Daughter, They are created in my image, and they are VERY GOOD. God has made covenant with us that says, I choose these humans. The baptismal waters are a seal of that covenantal relationship between God and Humans!Based on Genesis 1:1-5; Psalm 29; Mark 1:4-11, & Acts 2:1-5Originally Preached January 10th 2021
God wanted to make very clear to God’s people what his word really did mean. God didn’t want there to be any misunderstandings. So, God sent His Son into the world to be a living testimony to the word of God… Jesus was God’s word in the flesh! Put simply, if you want to get to know God better, if you want to know the true character of God, If you want to truly see God’s love for humanity, get to know Jesus… The only way that can happen is by spending time in the gospels and internalizing them. Based on John 1:1-4
Joy is an interesting gift you know. It’s actually contagious. Joy is best appreciated when it is given away.Based on Luke 1:46b-55
Suffice it to say, if ever a people need hope it is us. I don’t know if you have noticed, things aren’t going the way they are supposed to go. We are in the midst of a pandemic that is separating us from those we love. Because of Covid-19 we are all living in fear! We are in the midst of social unrest… political unrest… religious unrest… We are a divided people in almost every aspect possible. Based on Isaiah 64:1-9.
The theological implications of today’s text are profound. Jesus is saying, That God is more concerned about how we treat each other than anything else.Based on Matthew 25:31-46
What are we doing with this gift of life God has given us? Are we living a radical, sold out life, of love and service to others? Are we risking it all, putting everything on the line, to share the good news of a loving God to this broken world?Based on Matthew 25:14-30
God is placing God’s healing of the world in the hands of Christ followers around the world... God is expecting Christians, around the globe, to humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn from their wicked ways. Then and only then will God hear, forgive, and heal this broken world.
