Hello! My name is Shawn Hiltibidal. I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I have been preaching, teaching and singing the good news about Jesus for almost 40 years. If you are looking for something that will encourage you in your walk with God and strengthen
In this episode I share a message that I taught in July 2011. I believe that one thing that is not being taught today in a lot of churches is the Biblical concept of learning to be content. Life is not about the acquisition of material things! Many preachers and teachers today even say that God wants to make you rich beyond your wildest dreams! While I believe that God absolutely blesses his children, and he wants us to "have all sufficiency in all things", many have erred from the faith through the love of money. The Bible warns us against covetousness over and over again. I have to be honest I don't hear a lot of preachers and teachers addressing what I am sharing here. I pray you will take this message to heart today.
From The Archives-May 2019 "The Secret of Contentment" This is a teaching I did in 2019 about the subject of prosperity. I personally believe a lot of teaching today is completely out of balance when it comes to money. The bible admonishes us not to fall into the trap of loving money. This is a much needed truth today, especially in the Charismatic/Pentecostal circle.
This is Part 5 of my teaching from 2019 during Passover. In this teaching I talk about the benefits of the blood of Jesus. At the end we will take communion together.
FROM THE ARCHIVES-April 15th, 2019 Passover Part 4 This is from Holy Week in 2019. At that time I was regularly doing Facebook live webcasts. I taught on the topic of the Jewish Passover. I will be sharing these videos this week since this is Passover 2024. This is God's Holy Week. Biblically, Resurrection Sunday would be this coming Sunday...not the one that was just celebrated. I apologize that the quality of the video is really good. This is one of the reasons I quit doing videos live back then. I believe the content of the teaching is worth dealing with poor video.
I cover a lot of topics in this 2 hour video. The recent event with that happened in Missouri at The Stronger Men's Conference should never have happened. While I fully support what Pastor Mark Driscoll said about the Jezebel spirit, I also believe the timing of what he said was misplaced. I absolutely do not agree as a fellow brother in the Lord that the way it was handled by Pastor John Lindell was Biblically correct. The real issue of the whole thing is that churches have become places of entertainment more than houses of God. Some things need to change! I might need to put a disclaimer that this video is not for the spiritually faint. These are serious subjects and must be dealt with seriously.

Welcome to my podcast that I call The Spirit and The Word Podcast. During this 30 minute episode, I am going to share my thoughts on the attack on Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, Pastor Mark Driscoll and his recent rebuke of a stripper at James River Assembly's Men's Conference, and why we should pray for President Trump.
FROM THE ARCHIVES April 2021 Every fear, worry, anxious distraction, stress filled thoughts and such of the like have one agenda and that is to get us to take our eyes off of Jesus. No matter what comes we must stay focused on God and His Word. If you and I are overwhelmed by anxiety and care it is a sure sign that we are not trusting God. I know what I am talking about because I have had to battle this in years gone by and I got victory over it using God's Word. Jesus wants us to be filled with joy and peace, not burdened down with care and worry, fear and doubt and full of anxiety. You can live a life that is care free in the care of God! This episode concludes this series. I pray that it has helped you overcome worry, fear and care!
FROM THE ARCHIVES-APRIL 2019 The world is full of trouble and fear. Believers in Jesus are not exempt from experiencing these things. However, Jesus tells us not to be troubled. Trouble may come from the outside, but you and I choose as to whether or not we allow the trouble to get down on the inside of us. Did you know the Bible tells us that we can even choose the thoughts we think? We are going to talk about taking authority over thoughts in this episode.
FROM THE ARCHIVES- APRIL 2019 Part 3 of 5 Anxious distractions. Care, worry, anxiety, fear, doubt...all things that are under the curse of the law in Deuteronomy 28 that Jesus redeemed us from. We do not need to tolerate any of these things in our lives. This week we are talking about how we can walk in victory over all of these things by casting our care over on the Lord. Jesus left us his peace. He also said we are to pray that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Not one person in heaven today is worried about anything. Not one person in heaven is afraid. We will be reading from Psalm 27 today.
FROM THE ARCHIVES Are you stressed out? Overwhelmed by circumstances? Burdened with anxiety, depression or worry? Then you need to listen to every single episode that I post this week! As a child of God, you do not have to suffer with these things! Jesus wants to help you! He wants you to live a life that is care free! We can't stop the storms of life from coming, but we can determine how we respond to the storms. We don't have to be worried and anxious about anything! In this series that I originally published in April 2019, I teach how we can overcome stress, worry, fear and anxiety and cast our cares over on Jesus because he cares for us! If you deal with any of these things, DO NOT miss one single episode of this 5 part series. It will help you!

Is Easter a Christian holiday or is it pagan? What is the origin of things related to Easter such as the Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs? Are Christians allowed to participate in Easter traditions? In this episode that I recorded in 2023, I answer all of your Easter questions.
Over two thousand years ago our Lord Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem on a donkey fulfilling Bible prophecy. He was examined for 4 days by the religious leaders, then ultimately arrested, tried and crucified....also fulfilling Bible prophecy. But....he didn't stay dead! He rose again! He is the risen lamb! This series of events is what we Christians celebrate every single year during Holy Week. The death, burial and resurrection of our Savior. This week I am republishing a series that I did during Holy Week 2022. I did 5 episodes of teaching about the Jewish Passover and how it all points to Jesus. He fulfilled every single aspect of what the children of Israel were commanded to do during Passover.

We have reached the end of this series. I have already covered all four chapters of John 14-17 in the last 4 episodes. In this final episode of this series, we are going to study Ephesians chapters 1 and 2. Paul writes to the church about the place that we occupy along with Jesus. Jesus sits in heavenly places at the right hand of God and we are seated with him! This is the place that was prepared for us that Jesus spoke of in the John 14-17 discourse! We are already citizens of heaven, even though don't physically live there. The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Son, gives us access to the very throne of God! This is the answer to Jesus' prayer in John 17. We are in him and he is in us and we are one with The Father.
We are almost to the end of this series. There is one more chapter for us to study. John 17 records one of the most powerful prayers that our Lord Jesus ever prayed. It's in this chapter Jesus intercedes to The Father in our behalf. The prayer is the culmination of the things that he taught his disciples in chapters 14-16. It's in this chapter Jesus asks the Father to make us one like he and the Father are one. Some say that the Father has not answered this prayer because we are not one in the body of Christ. However....I believe God did answer that prayer because through the Holy Spirit we have been made one with both the Father and The Son, Jesus. This is the whole point of all four chapters, John 14, 15, 16 and 17. In Ephesians Paul wrote about this very concept, which we will learn in the next episode.
There are hidden things in John chapters 14-17 that most people have missed. When we read these chapters we must do so realizing the discourse is one whole conversation. We must get the big picture. The overview of all 4 of these chapters is about The Holy Ghost, The Spirit of Jesus, coming to live on the inside of us. This is the main point of what Jesus was teaching his disciples. In this episode you will learn that Jesus reveals that He is the Comforter of John 14. The Spirit is not someone different than the Spirit of the Son. (Galatians 4)You will most definitely hear things in this episode that are different that what you might believe and have traditionally been taught.
I am teaching from John 14-17 in this series. We have already learned that the word mansion in verse 2 does not have anything to do with a big expensive house. The place prepared for us is not just our home in heaven when we die, which is a geographical place, but we have a place with the Father and the Son through the Holy Spirit. It is a positional place. We sit together with Jesus in heavenly places at the right hand of God. The place was prepared when Jesus presented his blood on heaven's mercy seat. In this episode I am going to answer the question...Who Is The Holy Ghost?
Do we get a mansion when we get to heaven? Is Jesus The Father in the flesh? Who is the Holy Spirit? These are all questions that Jesus answered in his discourse with his disciples that is recorded in John 14-17. Much misunderstanding and bad theology has arisen from cherry picking verses in these 4 chapters, However, these chapters must be viewed as a whole. We must see the big picture. As you listen to this series, some of what you hear will go against what you have been taught and believed all of your life. You will learn what the word mansion really means....it's not what you think! You will also learn who the Holy Ghost is...and...He's not who you think or have been taught that he is! I pray that God blesses you and opens your spiritual understanding today.
I was saved on October 15th, 1975. In 1978, in my mom and dad's living room, I was baptized in the Holy Ghost. My dad laid his hands on me and I started speaking in tongues. I am a Pentecostal believer. I have never turned my back on that experience. I still speak in tongues to this very day! There are many Christians asking the questions...Is speaking in tongues for today? Was it only for the "first church"? Did the gift of tongues pass away? In this 1 hour 27 minute episode, I answer these questions. The Bible clearly proves that being saved and being baptized in the Holy Ghost are 2 different events. We are going to study several passages from the book of Acts and also what Paul wrote to the church at Corinth about the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
There is something that grieves me more than absolutely anything else and I believe it also grieves the Holy Spirit. It is when Christians criticize others and bash others that they don't agree with. Social media has given rise to many who do nothing but use their social media accounts to call out the ones they deem as false prophets, false teachers and heretics. While there are certainly those in the church who fit into the category of such, we are not ever allowed Biblically to spread gossip and lies about fellow preachers and teachers. In fact, the Bible warns us not to touch others and keep our hands and our tongues off of them! In this episode I share a passage from Acts 5 where Gamiliel, who was a Pharisee, admonished the religious rulers to leave the disciples alone. It could be we are fighting against God! I pray that everyone who listens to this 90 episode today will take this to heart. We must never allow ourselves to criticize the servants of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This week's series has been an extensive study on the subject of tithing. The only thing I have not covered in detail is Hebrews chapter 7. Many pro-tithing advocates often use this chapter to prove that New Testament Christians are required to tithe but this chapter does exactly the opposite. There is not one single verse in this chapter that says that there is a tithing requirement. This chapter literally says that the tithing command was made void. If you have made it this far in this series and still have doubts about what I am teaching, this final episode will dispel the doubts and completely settle the debate. There is literally nothing else to say about tithing once we reached the end of this episode. I have exhausted this study and believe that I have proven the answer to the title question is NO...New Testament Christians are NOT required to tithe. It is absolutely personal choice as a man purposes in his heart...so let him give.
In this series so far, I have read every single Old Testament scripture about tithing except one. In this episode we are going to talk about what "tithing" actually was in Israel. Did you know that in addition to bringing a tenth of their produce and animals, that there were certain things that God commanded them to say with their mouths? The tithe was the physical produce and animals that they were commanded to bring to the priest, but tithing was the acting of bringing and saying. In this episode, which is part 3, we are going to leave the Old Testament and study what the New Testament says about tithing. I answer the questions, did Jesus teach tithing? Did he ever tell his disciples to tithe? Did Jesus himself tithe? Would Jesus have received someone tithes while he was on this earth? Did Paul teach tithing? The answers may shock you!
I am tackling the big question this week about tithing. I grew up believing and teaching that even New Testament believers were required to tithe in accordance with what Malachi 3:10 says. There was a time that I told people that if they didn't tithe, they were robbing God and there would a curse on them. I DO NOT believe this anymore. I was wrong! And I am man enough to admit it! In this series, I am reading every single verse from both the Old and New Testaments about tithes and tithing. Even those who are modern day tithing advocates don't preach the complete overview of what tithing was and who was required to tithe under Jewish law. We continue on our journey today to align ourselves with truth and not man-made teaching and as I've said already, by the time we get to part 4, there will be no debate that the answer to the title question is no.
One of the most controversial subjects in the church today is the subject of tithing and that is God requires us to give a tenth of every dime to the church. Many preachers and teachers, especially in Charismatic/Pentecostal circles believe and teach that tithing is absolutely imposed on New Testament believers in Jesus. There was a time in my life that I taught these things. But then...I began to study every single thing the Bible has to say about tithing. After investing hours upon hours of research, I came to the conclusion that I had been wrong most of my life. I now believe tithing is NOT imposed on us today as it was in the Old Covenant. In this week's series, I am going to explain why I changed my position on this subject. Each episode of this 4 part series is one hour long and by the time I get to part 4, I will have exhausted absolutely everything the Bible says about tithes and tithing. You will see that the answer to the question: Are New Testament Believers Required To Tithe?....Is definitively NO! We are not and I believe I can prove it. It is not a New Covenant mandate.
I have been providing facts from various Bible translations, Bible commentaries, and Bible dictionaries that prove satan's name is NOT lucifer. I could have ended in the last episode and said, I rest my case, but I still have much more to teach to seal the deal so to speak. In this episode, I am going to teach from Ezekiel 28 and expose the lies that many believe about satan being heaven's worship leader. It's simply not true! I will end today by going back to where we began and that is Isaiah 14 bringing us full circle in this teaching. At the end of this one hour episode, you will be faced with a choice. Will you continue to believe the biggest lie that satan ever sold to humanity, or will you accept what I have taught you as the truth. I pray you receive the truth.
If you have not listened to Parts 1-3 of this series, please do so before you listen to this episode. All of these episodes fit together. In episode 1 I laid the foundation for this teaching that lucifer is simply a Latin term meaning day star or morning star. I have read from commentaries, Bible dictionaries and other translations and have already answered the title question of this series. The answer is definitively NO, satan's name is not and never was lucifer. In this episode, I will read from more resources that absolutely support and prove what I am teaching this week.
Before you listen to this episode please go back and listen to Parts 1 and 2. I am giving definitive proof that many of us believed a complete galactic lie. The devil's name is NOT lucifer. The idea that satan's name was lucifer did not exist until the 4th century and it came into existence through Latin Christianity. I could have already ended this series with the last episode as I have already made my point of this whole teaching. However, there is still much to say. I will continue in this episode by reading what different Bible dictionaries and commentaries have to say about the Latin term lucifer and the Greek term phosphoros, which both mean day star.
If you have not listened to the first episode in this series, please do so and then come back and listen to this one. There was a time when I believed and taught that satan's name was Lucifer in heaven before he sinned and was kicked out. Upon much study over the years, I have learned that I was wrong. Many people, both saints and sinners, believe this falsehood. I have already established that the word lucifer has no roots in Hebraic thought. Lucifer is simply a Latin term for day star or morning star. It made its way into our King James Bibles via Jerome's Latin Vulgate. In this episode, I will continue to offer definitive proof that lucifer is not the devil's name and by the time you reach the end of this series, your eyes will be opened, you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free!
As far as I am concerned, the biggest lie that the devil ever sold to humanity is that he was once an archangel in heaven named Lucifer. Most Christians believe that he was heaven's worship leader and because of his pride and abilities he set out to overthrow God's throne. This belief system is based on Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28. The problem with this teaching is absolutely none of it is true! There is not one single scripture that says that satan was an archangel! Not one! The belief that he led worship in heaven comes from a misunderstanding of terms that the KJV translation uses in Ezekiel 28. The term lucifer found in Isaiah 14, has no foundation in Hebraic thought or teaching! Not one single Jewish person in the Bible knew satan as lucifer. It is simply tradition and nothing more! In this series you will learn what the word lucifer actually means and you will be shocked to hear that lucifer is actually a term that describes Christ in the New Testament! I am going to prove beyond any argument that what we were all taught was false!
Many people today equate ministry success with the ability to operate in spiritual gifts, the size of a building, the amount of social media followers they have, or even their ministry accomplishments. "Look what we did!", they often say. Others will say, "We must be right with God and have his support or we wouldn't have such great success!" Preachers will sometimes fall into the trap that because people are applauding and shouting, "I must be anointed!" Worship leaders can fall into the same trap and their ability to lead worship becomes all about them personally and not about the ONE they are supposed to be leading people to worship. A preacher or a worship leader can be living in outright sin, not be right with God, and people will still be able to generate an emotional response from people. Many people equate emotionalism with spirituality. This is especially prevalent in Charismatic/Pentecostal churches! I've seen it for decades! Many confuse someone's gift with God's anointing. In this 1 hour 18 minute episode you will learn why His anointing is not necessarily his stamp of approval.
Many years ago, I was offered a job to play the piano in a piano bar in St. Louis. I love to play the piano and at the time I could have used the extra money! However, it was not even something that I even considered. I have always believed that my musical gifts came from the Lord and as a disciple of Jesus, I have a responsibility to use them properly. The musical abilities that I am gifted with were put in me to minister both to and for the Lord, and not to entertain people as they are getting drunk. I COULD have taken that job....but that did not mean that I should. This concept doesn't simply apply to a piano bar setting. It applies to church settings as well. I was offered a job many years ago working with a pastor who needed a worship leader. I am capable of leading worship. I have done it since I was a young man. But...I turned him down flat. Why? He and I had some major doctrinal differences and I knew it wouldn't work. I could have led worship for him....but should I was the question. In this episode I am going to address the "I Could...But Should I?" question. I believe this 20 minute teaching will really help you today. Especially, if you are in the process of making a decision about something big.
In this last episode I proved without question that women are NOT allowed to be pastors. If a woman is in a pastoral position, she is in violation of the Word of God and men who sit under her are in disobedience. Men are never to submit to the authority of a woman. EVER! Many who believe that woman can be preachers often cite where Mary encountered Jesus after he rose from the dead. They say that Mary was the first one to preach the gospel. Is this true? I am going to answer this question today and once again prove that what a lot of Christians believe is false.
What about women preachers? The answer to the question depends on who you ask. For example if you were to ask the Southern Baptist denomination, the answer is absolutely...NO! Women are NOT allowed to preach! On the flip side, if you ask most Charismatic/Pentecostals, you will likely hear that women not being allowed to preach was a cultural issue. In other words...it was for a particular time or a particular church in the Bible. Setting all of that aside, we are going to look at what the Bible actually says concerning this subject. The Bible is God's Word and is Truth. We must align ourselves with what Truth tells us to do and believe. Listen...if you dare!
Are Christians Required To Keep The 10 Commandments? I am shocked that this question even has to be asked! Furthermore, I am shocked that there are so-called Christian teachers and preachers, some of them famous, who say the answer to this question is NO! In this 30 minute episode today, I am going to definitively prove that these preachers are false. The Bible is very, very clear that the answer is YES! We still obey God's commandments today! They were never made void or removed. It's not a matter of obeying law or having a relationship with Jesus. It's relationship with Jesus that gives us the power and ability TO OBEY and keep God's commandments. You will learn today that those who do not keep the commandments will not go to heaven.
You might have heard about the recent "He Gets Us" ad campaign that was broadcast during the Super Bowl. While this statement might sound spiritual and from one aspect it's true...Jesus UNDERSTANDS the human condition, because he was human, the point of the ad campaign is that Jesus ACCEPTED every sin and form of behavior. It presents a false Jesus honestly and not the real Jesus of the Bible. Yes...he gets us...but he loves enough to tell us...GO AND SIN NO MORE. Many today believe that Jesus preached love and tolerance. While Jesus did preach love, he did NOT preach tolerance for what His Father God said was illegal. I will deal with several things in this episode that dispel the false ideology that...HE GETS US.
In part 2 of this series I read from Acts 15 and taught the four things that we New Testament believers are required to do. 1. Abstain from meat offered to idols. 2. Abstain from animals that have been strangled. 3. Abstain from eating blood 4. Abstain from sexual immorality. I am going to deal with the 4th one in this episode. To define what sexual immorality is, we must go back to God's law or the Torah, specifically Leviticus 18. This chapter clearly defines what God considers to be illegal sexual activity in his eyes.
In the last episode we learned that Christians DO NOT have to abide by Jewish dietary laws as were prescribed by God in the Torah. In today's episode I am going to read from Acts 15. There are 4 things in this passage, 3 of which concern food, that even New Testament believers are required to do.
There are false teachers all over social media that are teaching that New Testament Christians are required to follow the dietary laws of Leviticus. This is straight up false teaching and in this episode, I am going to prove it! After you finish listening to this podcast today, you will never again have to question what the Bible says concerning this topic. This is the 1st episode of a series that I will be posting this week.
Our world is filled with trouble! Everyone of us, at some point, will have an opportunity to be stressed out, overwhelmed with life and to be controlled by fear, worry and anxiety. Those of us who know Jesus don't have to lives dominated by the care of our circumstances! This episode features a message I preached in July 2011, at Hope Church in St. Louis. This message will encourage you and fill you with faith! Troubles may come to each one of us, but we don't have to surrender our thoughts and actions to the storms of life. We can have peace in troubled times if we simply put our trust in God and His word.
I got up today, and as I do every morning, I fixed my coffee and sat down to scroll through social media. After about 5 minutes I found myself thinking...it's so dark! Darkness seems to be prevailing in our country and around the world. Within seconds I heard the phrase...THE DARKNESS DOESN'T WIN! NEVER HAS AND NEVER WILL! It may seem like things are dark and getting darker, HOWEVER....God's answer from the very, very beginning has been.....LIGHT BE! Don't be discouraged by what is happening in the world! Jesus is still Lord, He is still on the throne and in the end....darkness will be put down for good!
In this episode I conclude a 3 part series from 1st Timothy. In this episode I will cover chapters 4-6. If you have not had an opportunity to listen to parts 1 and 2, please do that and then come back to listen to part 3. Chapter 4 begins with some very specific words from The Spirit of God. I believe we are living in the time right now that is spoken of in this chapter.
This is the conclusion of the 3 part series of The Sermon On The Mount. I read today and expound the verses from Matthew 7.
This is part 2 of the 3 part series from Matthew chapters 5-7 that contains the words of Jesus that we call The Sermon On The Mount. The main focus of this chapter is how we as Christians should never make a production out of our giving, praying and fasting. It is also this chapter that records what we call The Lord's Prayer. There is much good to learn from this chapter alone!
I believe the Bible...all of it...every word...especially the words in red. The red words are the words of Jesus! Matthew 5-7 contains what is called The Sermon On The Mount. If you and I just simply lived out what Jesus says in these 3 chapters, that is enough to keep all of us busy! This episode is the first of 3 where I will be teaching from Matthew 5-7.
