The Tenth Commandment forbids more than wanting good things. It warns against desires that grow unchecked — desires that become demands, and when unmet, harden into envy and resentment. But here's the tension: if coveting helped create the problems we inherited, what makes any generation think it will be different? Every generation says, “We'll be different.” Yet real change begins when we recognize the problem is not only around us, but within us.

Being your own worst critic… and why that never really goes away What each of us is secretly proud of in our playing right now Groove, touch, and making simple parts feel really good Being easy to work with vs. being flashy Why feel, energy, and stage presence still get you hired --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!

Welcome to Kevin Conner's podcast. This series, recorded in 1989, explores the Ten Commandments. This powerful conclusion to the Two Sets of Ten sermon series unpacks the final commandment: “You shall not covet” (Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21). After fourteen weeks studying the Ten Commandments, this message brings everything full circle by exposing the root behind so many outward sins—unchecked desire in the heart. Coveting is not merely wanting something; it is an unhealthy, consuming desire for what belongs to someone else, a desire strong enough to lead to sin. Through biblical examples like King David and Bathsheba, this sermon reveals how coveting gives birth to greater transgressions. James 1:15 explains how desire conceives and produces sin, and sin, when fully grown, leads to death. Coveting is shown to be the inward seed that can grow into stealing, adultery, murder, idolatry, and spiritual destruction. What begins in the heart eventually manifests in action.Jesus' teaching elevates the standard even higher. Just as hatred is murder in the heart and lust is adultery in the heart, coveting is stealing in the heart. Believers are challenged to take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and guard against greed and covetousness, as warned in Luke 12:15. Ephesians 5:5 and Colossians 3:5 further reveal that covetousness is idolatry—placing desire for possessions, status, or people above devotion to God.The message ultimately centers on love as the fulfillment of the law. Romans 13:9 reminds us that all commandments are summed up in this: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” When believers live in love—loving God fully and loving others rightly—coveting loses its power. Trusting God's promises, walking in obedience, and abiding in Christ bring blessing, peace, and spiritual freedom. This sermon calls listeners to examine the hidden motives of the heart, resist greed, and live in contentment and trust. When desire is surrendered to God, life aligns with His Word—and the blessings He promises follow.Referenced Verses:Exodus 20:17 Deuteronomy 5:21 Romans 13:9 Luke 12:15 Romans 3:23Romans 6:23James 1:15 2 Corinthians 10:5Ephesians 5:5Colossians 3:5-Social Media Ministries, founded by Spencer Coffman, is committed to sharing the Word of God with the entire world. The 10 Commandments E1 — What comes to mind when you hear “Thou shalt not”? Probably the 10 Commandments! Even if you know very little about the Bible, you're probably familiar with “Thou shalt not kill,” “Thou shalt not steal,” “Honor your father and mother,” and many others. They're all over movies, literature, and even carved into public buildings. In the Exodus scroll, these are the core commands God gives to Israel on tablets of stone at the foot of Mount Sinai. And there's a lot that sets them apart from the hundreds of other laws God gives to Israel. In this episode, Jon and Tim kick off a new series on the 10 Commandments, exploring what makes them special and how they are quoted throughout the rest of the Bible. Send me a Text Message!"Do not be afraid." That's the challenge giving to the church at Smyrna, and it was also a pretty common greeting that first Christmas. In Luke 1 – It was the angels greeting first to Zechariah in the temple and then to Mary when the angel brought this message of a baby and a virgin birth. "Don't be afraid." In Joseph's dream in Matthew 1, Joseph was told, “Don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife.” In Luke 2, the shepherds were terrified and the angel said, “Don't be afraid.” In fact, the most common command in the Bible is not "Don't Lie or Steal, Covet or Kill." It isn't "Love One Another" that might be the most important but not the most common. The most common command in the Bible is Fear NOT! Lloyd Ogilvie notes that there are 366 fear not verses in the Bible. This episode and the next, we'll talk a bit about fear and I'll hopefully encourage you with the hopeful words, "Don't be afraid!"
In this final message of the Ten Commandments series, Pastor Les Cody unpacks the power of the Tenth Commandment: Do Not Covet. Through the story of Ahab and Naboth, he reveals how covetousness becomes the root of so many other sins—and how it opens the door to the Jezebel spirit. This sermon calls us back to Radical Love, gratitude, and full surrender, reminding us that Jesus must remain our first love.
In this episode of That Sober Guy Podcast, Shane sits down with fashion entrepreneur, social commerce innovator, and newly minted author Christos Garkinos, a man whose journey from Detroit to luxury fashion, Bravo TV, and running a $100M live-streaming network is impressive enough… but who's even more proud of one thing: staying sober. Christos opens up about growing up with Greek immigrant parents, working with major brands like Disney and Virgin Megastores, pioneering the luxury resale world, and ultimately launching Covet by Christos, a massive community-driven luxury platform featured in places like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and The New York Times. But his latest creation might be his most personal yet: his first book, Covet the Comeback. Together, Shane and Christos unpack why consistency matters, not just in sobriety, but in business, identity, spiritual growth, and making a comeback when life humbles you. They talk about what it means to just show up, surrender control, and let God work in places hustle alone won't fix. Key Takeaways • Comebacks require consistency, not perfection. Just show up, tell the truth, and let the work compound. • Sobriety creates space for identity, not the other way around. When alcohol stops leading, purpose can start. • God moves when you move. Taking action opens doors that prayer alone can't. In this message Pastor Les Cody concludes our X Commandments series with the final commandment, do not covet. This message explores how the unseen root of coveting produces visible sin, an whow if left unchecked, it cascades into the breaking of the other nine commandments. We discover how the seed sin of covering, as seen in 1st Kings 21:1-16, is the internal sin that drives external rebellion. This message divulges how we tear down the principality of coveting by lifting up gratitude and generosity. We begin with our foundational text in the Old Testament with a biblical call to radically obey God by being on guard against the infiltrating spirit of Jezebel. We radically love God by not coveting. We can paste the below the description on each podcast: The vision of Mercy Culture is to take people from corporate encounters with God to daily personal encounters with God. At Mercy Culture, one of our unique characteristics is that we are a presence driven church. We are not built around any person or ministry. We are built around the presence of God. Each week, you will hear a teaching from our Lead Pastors, Les and Nikki Cody or another leader in our community. To learn more about Mercy Culture, visit https://mercyculturewaco.com

This week, Pastor Brandon jumps back into our Unlocked series with a powerful teaching on the commandment: “Do not covet.” In a world that constantly tells us to want more, compare more, and chase what everyone else has, this message brings us back to the heart of God's design. Coveting doesn't just steal our joy — it locks us out of contentment, peace, and the life God actually wants for us to experience.
Study the daily lesson of Sefer HaMitzvos for day 253 with Rabbi Mendel Kaplan, where he teaches the mitzvah in-depth with added insight and detail.
In this powerful close to the Ten Commandments series, Pastor Treigh Martinez exposes the hidden sin of coveting — the internal desire that gives birth to every other sin. Using the stories of Eve, David, and Judas, he reveals how misplaced desire separates us from God and leads to destruction. But there's hope: contentment is found only in Christ, our greatest provision. This message calls believers to reject the love of the world, resist the lust of the eyes and pride of life, and return to the table of covenant with gratitude and holiness.
Pastor Sean Gleason's message “Do Not Covet” teaches that coveting is a heart issue that pulls us away from God's love and fuels jealousy, competition, and selfish ambition. Using the story of the Samaritan woman at the well, he shows how misplaced desire leads to emptiness until we find fulfillment in Jesus, the living water. The cure for coveting is daily encounters with God, humility, and delighting in Him—because when we find satisfaction in His radical love, we need nothing else.
