The world we live in is all relative and ever-changing, not the absolute. The absolute is absolutely nothing. The absolute is when you’re in complete silence. It’s in that space where nothing seems to be happening, nothing seems to be going on. But if you have the courage to stay there a bit longer in that space called ‘nothing’, if you look very carefully, that’s where you can find everything. Going on this path to awakening is not so much about being a witness of life and just witnessing what’s happening. It’s feeling life and being life itself. It’s feeling life’s complexities of feelings and emotions that are not always pleasant. And that’s the beauty of life, to feel the pain. Living life to the fullest is the biggest risk that you could ever take because it’s fully opening your heart to what life has to offer. In every experience, you’ve ever been through is gold, is wisdom, is something you can use, is pure life within you, and you get to choose how you want to relate to that and what you want to do with it. When you allow yourself to be with your pain, that’s a sign of self-love. When you acknowledge that life sucks, sometimes it feels like it sucks less. True change only happens when you embrace exactly who you are, when you embrace everything about yourself, even the things that you don’t like and don’t want to look at. It’s a lasting change because it’s a change that comes from freedom. Action Steps: Create a detachment to realize that you are not your thoughts and your feelings. You are before and beyond your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Realize every single feeling you’ve ever felt in your life. Realize that it’s not about life happening to you but for you. We always think that we’re going to be the happiest if we are with someone who has the same perspectives that we have, but it doesn’t mean that in order to have maximum harmony in your life that you should really be the same. It’s actually interesting to be with someone who sees things differently. It’s a part of being human to want to be right and to want other people to agree with us. And our need to be understood and our need for agreement can be amplified in a relationship. But the more enlightened we are, the less we need other people’s agreement or validation. We tend to let our ego come into this space that was meant to be pure love and presence and acceptance. And sometimes we use our difference in spirituality as an excuse for unhappiness and as barriers in our relationships. The simple act of noticing when the ego comes in is transformative. When you bring awareness into what you’re actually doing or saying or thinking, you begin to see a shift and find that you have this ability to hit a pause button. You ultimately know what is the best relationship for you. If your relationship is at a point where you feel that there’s just so much misalignment and nothing is in harmony, then you know the choices you have to make around that. But you can’t demand that someone be like you or do the things that you do. To demand what you think is the right way to be and demand that your partner do what you do is really off-track from what it means to honor their holiness, to see them as pure presence and pure love, and to embrace them and accept them for who they are and what they believe in or don’t believe in, in their own path. Action Steps: Look past appearances. Look past arguments. Look past preferences that you don’t agree with. Look past faults and flaws. Look past all of the things that make up our humanness and know that the person you’re in a relationship with is of God. Allow some grace into your relationship and honor their path. Offer presence, love, and non-judgment to your partner, no matter what their belief system is. Allow yourself to see the good that can come from different perspectives.     Have you had a spiritual awakening and had thoughts and feelings that were less than positive? This is the last of a three-part series on a somewhat heavy, but worthwhile topic. Last Wednesday, we left off with depression. Today, we’re going to dive deeper into the topic. This episode is powerful and will let you know that you’re not alone.   7 Key Takeaways When you get into the state where you tap into your presence, and that presence is something that you identify as something that is not a part of your ego, your eyes start to open a bit to how the way we are as humans is different from the truth of who we are. When you are spiritually awakened, you stop defining things as “good” and “bad.” Everything is just “is.” There’s nowhere to go, nothing to do, and nowhere to be. When you start to absorb that, doing other things can become less meaningful. That’s when some of the depression can come in. We know intuitively that there is love, joy, and meaning. If you find yourself wondering what’s the point of anything, simply give this to God and align yourself to Him. Ego would have us believe we are a body and a personal story. But if you have a spiritual awakening, you understand there is God and you understand that you are vast and pure awareness. The difficulty with going and functioning in this world when we are spiritually awakened is sometimes where the depression comes in.     Last week, I talked about how the metaphysics of A Course in Miracles surprised me and what it says about reality, the ego, and separation from God. Today, I’m going to talk about the dark nights of the soul and depression, two things that usually don’t cross your mind when you think about spiritual awakening. I invite you to join me in this thought-provoking three-part series. 7 Key Takeaways God is love and we are love. This is a simple concept that we can return to when we find ourselves having fear-based thoughts. According to ACIM, we are living in a world of illusion. Our perception of reality is distorted. All the things that make up the individual that you are (your body, your personality, etc.) is not the truth of who you are. We are not separate from God. We are all one. ACIM says the world was made as an attack on God. I grappled with this idea for some time. While I’m grateful for the spiritual path and I know that there’s peace on the other side of it, it took some time for me to process this idea. Consciousness affects what we see on a scientific level. This is called the observer effect in the scientific world. When you go through spiritual awakening, it’s not uncommon to have feelings of depression or disorientation. Dark nights of the soul is when you’re going through a transition in your life and you experience difficult emotions such as despair, anger, doubt, guilt, or sadness. Unattached parenting is a style of parenting that Bridgett describes as letting go of the need for your child to do a certain thing or be a certain way. How do you show up as a parent, and could this philosophy serve you? 7 Key Takeaways When you tightly hold on to something, the thing that you want doesn’t come, takes a long time to come, or comes with a lot of struggle. When we’re attached to outcomes, what’s happening is we are not allowing space. We don’t allow God or the Universe to provide for us in the way that would best serve us. If you’re visualizing something that you want to bring into your life, step back a little and visualize yourself happy. Trust that the thing that you want or something better will come to you. When you’re strongly attached to something, it’s usually coming from a place of uncertainty, lack, fearfulness, and mistrust. Being attached to an outcome can pigeonhole you into a particular thing that when you get it, you may not even be really happy with it. A lot of what goes on with us as adults is a result of our beliefs about ourselves which we acquired as children. These beliefs are based on how our elders treated us, behaved around us, and responded to us. Conscious parenting means being aware and making mindful choices based on thought and intentions rather than reacting, going on autopilot, and allowing your old beliefs systems and habits to run your life. Today, I begin the first part of the lengthy topic of spiritual awakening by discussing what it is, what A Course in Miracles says about the ego and separation from God, and why some people seem to lose their minds when they are awakened. Join me as I explore the nature of reality and the truth of who we are. 6 Key Takeaways When you awaken to the truth of who you are, you realize there’s a dichotomy of nothing means anything and yet everything means something. There’s a dichotomy of meaning and lack of meaning. The ego is the part of us that would have us believe that we’re separate from God. ACIM says this supposed separation from God that our ego would have us believe never really occurred because we could never be separate from God. When you become right-minded, a miracle is occurring because you are being your true self and leaving the ego behind. You are operating from the state of your truth. The ego is everything you’ve identified with and what you think you are. When you stop identifying with the ego, then you wonder what is left. You get in the stillness sometimes. The stillness can be beautiful but it can also be frightening. We sometimes shift back into ego because we don’t know how to function in this other way. When you are fully in the present, that is you being in the state of who you truly are.     310UP: Sharing Our Vulnerabilities With Our Children: Is It Wise?

    “Vulnerability hangover” - something that happens when you share something very personal, and later have a reeling feeling for having shared something so deep, private, and personal. In this episode, Bridgett talks about her experience of showing her vulnerabilities to her children, how it has affected them, and what she has done to lift away that burden from them. 5 Key Takeaways If you shared something, and there’s no degree of vulnerability, you may ask yourself, “Was it worth sharing? How valuable was my experience of sharing?” Vulnerability means trust. We think about this when we’re with friends, we think about the degree of depth when we share something… there has to be a degree of trust there. This is not about having adult conversations or arguments in front of children. What about when we have true emotions about something in life? What if we didn’t always hide them away from our children? How much do I need to be vulnerable and show my children that this is real, that I am tremendously sad – this is one aspect of being vulnerable in front of our children. We are human. Even if you wanted to put up walls, even if you wanted to always show up as the perfect mom, it’s not really possible. Vulnerability is a part of life. It’s more of a question of to what degree do you share vulnerabilities with children, because you have to balance letting them see what’s real, without putting any burden on them that they’re responsible for your emotional state. We have to be mindful. Are our children slipping into caretaking mode of our emotional state?     Quotes “It’s my job to make myself happy.” “My son can make me smile. My son can make me laugh. My son can make me act joyfully. True happiness at my own state of being is my responsibility, and it’s yours as well.”  Action Steps Sharing vulnerabilities with your children – it’s important to have these kinds of conversations. One of the things that’s never addressed in school is emotional regulation, emotional support, or emotional stability, mental health, and even self-responsibility around these things. It’s these things you should talk about. Balance this. Yes, you are a real person, you have real emotions, and it’s not your job to block them off 100% from the sight of your children, no matter what age they are. But at the same time, make sure to communicate with them that this is natural, and these are emotions you need to deal with rather than repress them, and ultimately, it’s your job to take care of your own emotional state.
