All-Star Marriage Podcast - Episode One: Title: Building Strong Foundations Host Name: Johnathan Hines Background About Host Johnathan Hines: Husband, father, best-selling author, Christian, sports enthusiast, hunter, fisher, and relationship coach, CEO. Johnathan started his Coaching practice in 2007 and has been counseling couples ever since. He is a Christian author who has written extensively on marriage and relationship building. He is a happy father of a son and a daughter, where the son is a toddler and daughter is a teenager. Tagline: "Exploring the big questions in life, one episode at a time." Intro: Welcome to the All-Star Marriage Podcast! Exploring the big questions in life, one episode at a time. I am your host Johnathan Hines, and I'm excited to help you build stronger foundations in your marriage. Are you ready to take your relationship to the next level? Let's dive in! New Dad's Joke: Why did the tomato turn red? Because it saw the salad dressing! Quote: "No relationship is perfect, but when both parties are committed to building something great together, they can achieve anything." - Johnathan Hines Segment 3: People Struggle with These Issues: In today's episode, we will discuss how couples struggle with building a strong foundation in their relationship. Often, they may be overwhelmed by external circumstances, communication issues, or personal struggles that affect their marriage. Famous Personal Story: John F. Kennedy once said, "The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining." This statement emphasizes the importance of building a strong foundation while times are good. By working to build a strong foundation during good times, couples can better weather the storms that may come their way. Analogies/Parables: The story of the three little pigs teaches us the importance of building a strong foundation. When the big bad wolf came to blow their houses down, the pig with the strongest and most solid foundation was able to withstand the winds. Summary of Segment 3: Although building a strong foundation can be challenging, it is essential for a lasting and healthy relationship. By prioritizing communication, addressing issues head-on, and working together as a team, couples can build a strong foundation for their marriage. The Hines Sight Tip: Today's tip is all about prioritizing quality time with your partner. Make an effort to regularly schedule date nights and other meaningful activities that allow you to connect and spend time together. Old and New Story: A couple from the 1950s prioritized date nights once a week, where they would dress up and go dancing. In more modern times, some couples have taken to technology to stay connected by scheduling virtual dates or using apps to share experiences together from afar. Action Steps: Make a list of activities that you and your partner enjoy that you can do together. Schedule a date night at least once a month and commit to sticking to it. Segment 3: Q&A Q1: How can we improve communication in our marriage? Host Answer: Improving communication in your relationship often starts with scheduling time each day to talk and check in with each other. Also, using "I" statements instead of "You" statements can help keep the conversation positive and constructive. Q2: How can we address conflict without escalating the situation? Host Answer: It's important to approach conflict with understanding and empathy. Active listening is key to understanding your partner's perspective, and staying calm is important to deescalate the situation. Q3: How do we maintain the passion and spark in our relationship? Host Answer: Making time for intimacy and exploring new experiences together can help maintain the spark in a marriage. It's also important to continue learning and growing together as a couple. Conclusion: Building strong foundations in our relationships is essential for long-term happiness and success. By prioritizing communication, making time for quality moments together, and working together to overcome obstacles, we can create stronger, healthier relationships. Remember, building a strong foundation is a lifelong process. Motivation/Hope: There is hope for every couple to build a strong foundation in their relationship. By taking small, intentional steps every day, you can lay the groundwork for a lasting and loving marriage. Outro: Thank you for joining us today on the All-Star Marriage Podcast. Is the voice in your head that ex-boss or partner who excelled in exposing your weaknesses or failures? Let's dig into YOUR Personal Board of Directors…You have one! We ALL do! Even if you don't realize it, they are there in the background of your life. Some we have chosen purposely for the advice and experience that they add, but some have snuck through a cracked door, even have a seat at the table even though it does not benefit us or our goals.  The quality of our lives is influenced by these people and we may not even know it or realize that they are there! Not everybody gets a seat at the table!!! Onboarding new employees is an integral part of running a law firm. You need team members to take some work off your plate and you need a consistent way to bring them onto the team. If you don't institute a solid onboarding process, you will be more stressed and overwhelmed than you were before you hired help. So, in this episode, Melanie is going to share some of her top tips for onboarding. She has perfected the art of documenting her onboarding procedures and now has a large, well-oiled team. They've grown fast and even gone remote.  The three aspects of onboarding that we will discuss today are culture and connecting with other employees, logistics, and job responsibilities. Applying all of this information will allow you to get your onboarding procedures set in stone and ready to use when you're hiring new employees. Tune in to learn it all! Show Highlights: Melanie's personal history with onboarding. Ways to share and communicate your company culture with new employees. What org charts are and why they're helpful. Logistics you should set up for onboarding. How to incorporate the onboarding practices you've used in the past. How to train your new hire for their job responsibilities. It only takes a second and helps us out a lot! Supporting Resources: https://streamlined.legal/ ACTION STEPS: Make a list of all of the software that a new team member will need access to when they start so that when you have someone new you can simply work your way down the list to make sure that you're not missing anything. Make a list of all of the hardware that a new team member will need. Bonus points if you include a link to purchase the item so that you don't have to search for it every time you need to buy something. Find all of the written and video resources that you currently have for training and put them in one centralized place (i.e. a Dropbox folder, an Evernote, a folder, etc). This doesn't have to be fancy but it does have to be accessible to the whole team. BONUS: If you are disappointed that you don't have more or are feeling like you should have more, start a list of procedures that you'd like to create and save them so that you and your team can start slowly knocking them out one by one. *** Episode Credits If you like this podcast and are thinking of creating your own, consider talking to my producer, Emerald City Productions. DOWNLOAD THE GOOD ENOUGH MOM ACTION GUIDE  https://www.stethoscopestoswaddles.com/goodenoughmom/   Review of previous episode “Wholeheartedness is like a North Star. You can never get there. But you know when you're heading the right way.”- Brene Brown Cultivating is about creating something positive. It's moving you forward by putting your oars in the water to row your boat on the sea of life. Letting go is about removing resistance. It's detaching the anchors from your boat, so you make effective progress when you row. Without creating the positive, you won't move forward. And without releasing what weighs you down, your progress is limited, slow, and painful. The term “guidepost” also signifies that wholeheartedness is a way of travel, not a destination.    Guidepost 6: Cultivating Creativity and Letting Go of Comparison Creativity doesn't require talent- everyone is creative! Comparison impedes creativity Watch a kid being creative- Zero pressure ACTION STEPS: What's your favorite way to be creative?  Start creating and share your gifts with the world! Pay attention to when you get caught up in comparison. How does comparison feel?  What's good in your life? Check that list against your to-do list and to accomplish list Take that NAP!   Guidepost 7: Cultivating Play and Rest, Letting Go of Exhaustion as a Status Symbol and Productivity as Self-Worth Sleep and Rest go hand in hand.  Sleep debt is real! Pay your debts.  “Play is the stick that stirs the drink. It is the basis of all art, games, books, sports, movies, fashion, fun, and wonder—in short, the basis of what we think of as civilization. Play is the vital essence of life. It is what makes life lively.”  ― Stuart M. Brown Jr., Play: How It Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination, and Invigorates the Soul May 2008 TED Talk : https://www.ted.com/talks/stuart_brown_play_is_more_than_just_fun?language=en “Kids don't run to get in shape; they run to feel the wind in their face and the grass beneath their feet. Kids don't chat over coffee; they make jokes and play games with their friends. Kids don't network; they bond while they're having fun together. There is no ego. There is no guilt. There is no past to regret, and no future to worry about. They just play.”  ― Charlie Hoehn, Play It Away: A Workaholic's Cure for Anxiety ACTION STEPS: Schedule time for unstructured play. Have a dance party- even if you have 2 left feet. Heck, play with slime! Notice when the thought that “play and rest are luxuries” shows up in your mind. That's like a warning sign that you're in need of rejuvenation. Use it as an opportunity to recommit to your top self-care practices. Brene suggests - make a list of “Ingredients for joy and meaning”- what specific conditions are in place when everything feels good? GUIDEPOST 8: Cultivating Calm and Stillness and Letting Go of Anxiety as a Lifestyle Calm is a practice! “Creating perspective and mindfulness while managing emotional reactivity”- Brene Brown  “The Dance of Connection”- managing anxiety- over functioning or under functioning ACTION STEPS Find what works for you Mindfulness- Start a daily meditation practice or a 5 min journaling practice GUIDEPOST 9: Cultivating Meaningful Work, Letting Go of Self-Doubt and Supposed-To What is meaningful work? Self-doubt undermines the process of finding our gifts and sharing them with the world- Brene Brown Imposter syndrome Supposed to- the battle cry of fitting in, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and proving yourself To overcome these- we have to start owning the messages  What makes us afraid What's on our supposed to list Who says so?  Why? Do not ignore these messages- acknowledge them, write them down and ask the messaged “What do you do?  Where are you from? How are you armor? Can I let you go and be safe?” I'm a wife, mom, CRNA, Mentor, Digital course creator, Life Coach, - The slash effect. You contain multitudes. Overcoming self-doubt is all about believing we are enough and letting go of what the world says we are supposed to be and call ourselves ACTION STEPS: Identify what meaningful means to you Reflect on what your unique gifts are, and start sharing them with the world. As Howard Thurman instructs: “Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” When you notice that you're should-ing on yourself, pause and switch directions. Drop “should” and “supposed-to” from your vocabulary and replace it with “want.” (So “I should do X” becomes “I want to do X/Y/Z.”) GUIDEPOST 10: Cultivating Laughter, Song, and Dance. And Letting Go of Cool and Always in Control Next time you have the thought “But what if people think I'm weird…” Remember that fitting in is far less important than making authentic connections with others. Don't let a fear of looking weird prevent you from doing the things that serve you. ACTION STEPS: Make a playlist that helps you let go and be goofy and lean into the joy of movement and singing Notice the little opportunities for laughter and play and take them   IN SUMMATION Play, dance, take joy in not comparing your creativity with anyone else's, take a nap, slow down, notice your “shoulds” and take solace in the fact that you are enough as you are right now in this moment.

Topics Discussed in this Episode: The business athlete Hormetic stress 3 examples of hormetic stress Exercise Cold/Heat Getting into a discomfort zone Key Takeaways: We need to see ourselves like an athlete does. We need to get ready for big events and double down on sleep, nutrition, hydration, and our overall fitness. And then after going through that period of intense work, we need to rest and recover. As human beings, we were designed to withstand significant amounts of stress. It’s perfectly okay to be carrying a lot around with you and be under pressure providing you get that opportunity to recover. Hormetic stress is fantastic for the immune system. Action Steps: Make sure you give yourself enough time to recover after experiencing stress. Every now and again, put yourself into a position of discomfort. Challenge yourself and see what you can achieve. Leanne said: “Every time you do a workout and you recover and you get stronger, you are essentially adding a little film, a little layer of resilience. So when some life stress comes in, you kind of know what to do with it because you’ve practiced “stress, rest, repeat”. “Consciously and deliberately practicing stress, experiencing a form of stress so that we can be stronger and be more prepared for it next time around As always, if you want to register your interest in some of the ideas that I’m putting together with Bodyshot Performance, send an email to anne@bodyshotperformance.com. What kind of goals should we have in 2021 with the pandemic still looming over us? Listen in as I share my thoughts on goal setting and the idea of never missing twice. Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/topic/podcasts/ for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: Goal setting The idea of never missing twice What creates consistency Key Takeaways: An example of an appropriate goal is one around health. That is to avoid COVID-19. If you have a daily goal, if you do skip a day, never skip it twice. Having a strong motivating factor is important to being consistent. Being committed to the outcome or to the “why” of the goal in place is what makes things happen. Action Steps: Make sure to never miss anything twice. See if you can put that to practice with whatever it is that you’re trying to achieve with consistency. Find your strong motivating factor. If there isn’t one, rethink your goal. Is it something that you really want to achieve? Set your non-negotiables. Leanne said: “I think it’s important to have a few objectives and perhaps to have some goals, but to be fairly flexible around them, and not to have too many, and not for them to be too big.” “Have a strong motivating factor… Be really plugged in to why you are doing something. And then achieve consistency with it, which is about having small realistic goals that you are very, very connected to.” Share this episode with anyone who wants to hear it. How can you improve your mental health and overall wellbeing? Listen in as I share about this thing called heartfulness and why it’s good for you. Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/topic/podcasts/ for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: Heartfulness The two sides of heartfulness Examples of heartfulness Key Takeaways: Heartfulness is twofold. One side of it is connecting or reconnecting with yourself by reconnecting with a certain hobby or passion that you used to enjoy and making some time for it. The other side of it is taking you out of self and doing something for something bigger than you. Dopamine and oxytocin are very important neurotransmitters for mental wellbeing. If you can help generate dopamine through an activity that you find rewarding, that can make you feel great. And it triggers a certain part of the brain that makes you want to repeat those behaviours. You get doses of oxytocin when you’re helping others and connecting. It’s not necessarily a physical connection. It can be emotional or intellectual. What do you love that you’re not doing at the moment? What lights you up? Go and pursue that. Action Steps: Make time for a hobby or passion that you used to enjoy and something that really lights you up. Consider volunteering your time for a charity. More so now than ever, think about what kind of heartfulness is in your life. Think about who you can help, who else you can serve. Leanne said: “When we hit our target, every month, we donate money to a charity. And that’s an essential part of our purpose. It’s not just a revenue-generating business. Far from it. Our purpose is to create happy, healthy, and resilient teams. When we do hit [our] target, then we make sure we give back.” “What do you love that you’re not doing at the moment? What lights you up? What radiates heat and energy within the body? It could be something you used to love, or it could be something you’ve always wanted to try or get into, and go and pursue that.” If you want to register your interest in some of the ideas that I’m putting together with Bodyshot Performance, send an email to anne@bodyshotperformance.com. Seriously sad really.  Our speaker had some excellent points to convey but due to silly basic errors, killed his organisation's messages.  Today there is so much information available, so many role models, so much video instruction, so much access to insight, so much training, you really have to wonder how some organisations can do such a poor job. I approached him after it was all over.  Being the eternal Aussie optimist from the land of vast horizons, blue skies and wonderful sunshine, I thought our speaker would benefit from a bit of friendly, positive feedback on how he could help his organisation to do better.  He wasn't buying that and asked me for one example.  I asked for the first slide to be brought back up.  A confusing coat of many, many colours, seriously dense with data, totally impervious to easy understanding – a florid mess in other words.  When I suggested the slides were perhaps attempting to put too much on the screen at the one time, he said I was looking at the cleaned up version.  The other issue was the delivery.  Our speaker chose to stand in front of the monitor and read to us what was on the screen, while having his back to us for most of the presentation.  What could our hero have done?  He made the slide deck the centerpiece of the presentation, instead of making his messages the key.  We should present only one idea per slide, restrict the colour palette to two colours for contrast and try to keep it zen-like simple.  If our audience cannot grasp the key point of any slide in two seconds, then it needs more paring back. Graphs are great visual prompts and the temptation is to use them as unassailable evidence.  This usually means trying to pack the graph with as much information as possible, showing long periods of comparison and multiple data points for edification.  Trying to pack it all on one screen is a formula for persuasion suicide. We need to learn some very basic logistics about presenting.  Try to stand on the audience left of the screen.  We read from left to right, so we want them to look at our face first and then read the screen.  We want to face our audience and if anyone drops the lights so your screen is easier to see, stop everything and ask for the lights to be brought back up.  We need the lights on in order that we can see our audience's faces.  We can then gauge if they are with us or resisting our messages.  Changing the slides and the delivery would have made the speaker's messages clearer and more attractive.  None of the things I have suggested to him are complex or difficult.  He remained resistant, so I saw him riding off into the sunset on his quixotic quest to convert others to his organisation's point of view.  Good luck with that one buddy! Action Steps Make yourself not the slides the centerpiece of your presentation Don't bombard your audience with a visual multi-coloured extravaganza – go for zen when designing your slide deck Don't put too many graphs on one slide – two at most is a good rule Try to position yourself facing your audience to the audience left of the screen Keep the light up, so you can see and be seen

Are you struggling with any digestive issues that could be affecting your hormones and overall health? Former opera singer turned nutritionist and gut expert Alyssa Labrecque is on the show to talk about beating IBS and other gut issues, and how you can optimize your gut health. You can find all the info and links about this episode at https://holisticwellness.ca/episode108 Topics Discussed in this Episode: Why gut health is important Why you might be experiencing digestive issues and when do you need to start worrying about them What gut maintenance looks like Why maintaining your minerals is important How the gut is connected to your hormones and hormonal imbalances The symptoms of SIBO and how you might get it The Low FODMAP Diet What to look for when purchasing probiotics   Key Takeaways: You should be pooping two to three times per day. You should be pooping in quantity from your elbow to your wrist every single day. You can carry up to 20 pounds of poop in your colon, and if you’re not eliminating all that poop, that’s going to affect not only your gut but also your hormone health. Maintenance of your gut has to happen, otherwise, gut issues will start to snowball and affect other bodily systems. When it comes to gut issues, mineral deficiencies can have a big role in the symptoms that you’re experiencing. Hormonal imbalances are a symptom and we need to understand what’s causing them to happen in the first place. Otherwise, we’re just managing the symptom and we’re not preventing or reversing a health issue or regaining quality of life. If there’s a hormone imbalance going on, there’s usually a bacterial imbalance. Action Steps: Make sure to maintain your good bacteria, your enzymes, and the integrity of your gut, i.e. preventing leaky gut from occurring. Get your mineral levels tested and see what minerals you need.   Alyssa said: “It’s incredible to see what some of our daily habits or how some of our daily habits might be impacting us.” “Supplementing is important but also understanding how can I ensure that I’m absorbing these nutrients that I’m depleted in.”   Thanks for listening!   Important Announcements:  Connect with me over on Instagram, @holisticwellnessfoodie. The Cutting Edge Japan Business Show By Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan

When we represent our organization in a public venue delivering a talk there are two brands on display.  Our companies brand, because everyone will make a judgment about the entire organisation based on what they see us do.  The second brand is our personal brand, how professional we are.  If we are ever in a position to give a public presentation, we need to be very conscious we need to be doing a proper job, because we can damage both brands do easily. Intellectually, most people get this but the reality is that every day someone is burning their organization and personal brands through sheer unadulterated, incompetence.   Welcome back to this weekly edition every Tuesday of "THE Cutting Edge Japan Business Show" I am your host Dr. Greg Story, President of Dale Carnegie Training Japan and best selling author of Japan Sales Mastery. We are bringing the show to you from our High Performance Center in Akasaka in Minato-ku, the business center of Tokyo. Why the Cutting Edge?  In this show, we are looking at the critical areas for success in business in Japan.  We want to help advance everyone's thinking so that we be at the forefront, the Cutting Edge, of how to flourish here in this market.   Before we get into this week's topic, here is what caught my attention lately. To attract more twenties and thirties consumers, the one hundred and forty year old Shiseido is overhauling its entire makeup lineup and discontinuing one hundred products. These are being replaced with a new collection using bolder colours and matte cosmetics.  The Shiseido President Masahiko Uotani says “what's important is we recruit new users to the Shiseido brand.  We can now get into this new segment of younger consumers who are going to become long-term users for us”.  The idea is to use the newly launched cosmetics line as a way to hook younger consumers into using Shiseido branded items.  Shiseido wants to grow its makeup revenues from the current ten percent share to thirty percent.  These new products will be rolled out in eighty eight markets globally.  President Uotani is a very Prominent Dale Carnegie graduate, so we wish him good luck with this bold redirection. In other news, although Japanese car makers have established a dominant global position in terms of the number of cars sold, their foothold is being eroded by German automotive part producers such a Bosch and Continental.  They are starting to overwhelm the Japanese auto industy in the field of autonomous driving technology.  The Japanese makers are seeing their young engineers leave their companies. They are electronics engineers, specializing in semi conductors, sensors and designing electronic circuits.  They are moving to the German companies, because they want to work on state of the art technology for self driving cars.  Japanese makers have dramatically increased their purchases of components from the German suppliers of Advanced Driver Assisted Systems.  To make it worse, Google and Apple are also spending one trillion yen each on R&D for autonomous driving.  In some defensive moves, Toyota and its key autoparts suppliers are looking at jointly developing autonomous driving technology. Denso, Aisin Seiki, Jtekt Corp and Advics a subsidiary of Aisin say they are planning to set up a joint venture next March.  In particular they are going to work on sensors, brakes and steering. This whole industry is going to be challenging in the future for Japan to maintain its dominance. Denso President Koji Arima said the race is “not about win or lose, but live or die”.  Toyota has also invested five hundred million dollars in Uber to jointly work on developing self-driving cars. Finally ZMP Inc a Tokyo based developer of autonomous driving technology has joined up with Hinomaru Kotsu taxi company to launch the world's first taxi services to fare paying passengers in tests between Otemachi and Roppongi.  They are planning to launch a full service in twenty twenty for the Olympics. This is episode number #47and we are talking about  How To Incinerate Your Brand Soredewa ikimasho, so let's get going. Seriously sad really.  Our speaker had some excellent points to convey but due to silly basic errors, killed his organisation's messages.  I believe there is no excuse for this anymore.  Today there is so much information available, so many role models, so much video instruction, so much access to insight, so much training, you really have to wonder how some organisations can do such a poor job.       The impressive thing was our speaker was delivering the talk in English, when that was not his native language.  Actually, the level of English fluency was highly impressive. The speaking speed was good, the English pronunciation was fine, the speaking voice itself was clear.  He came with a grand resume, part of the elite of the land, a seriously well educated, very senior guy.  This was game, set and match to be a triumph of positive messaging and salesmanship.  It was a fizzer.      I thought what a waste, so approached him after it was all over. Being the eternal Aussie optimist from the land of vast horizons, blue skies and wonderful sunshine, I thought our speaker would benefit from a bit of friendly, positive feedback on how he could help his organisation to do better.  His body language screamed out that  he wasn't buying any of that and asked me for one example.  Clearly he believed his talk went down a treat with the crowd, a group by the way, full of long term Japanophiles and enthusiastic boosters for things Japanese.  He was in fact preaching to the choir, in audience terms, but his messaging went astray.     I asked him for the first slide to be brought back up.  A confusing coat of many, many colours, seriously dense with data, totally impervious to easy understanding – a florid, turbulent, roiling mess in other words.  The other slides were all like this.  The heavy data volume on one slide was simply killing the key messages. When I suggested the slides were perhaps attempting to put too much on the screen at the one time, he said I was looking at the cleaned up version.  He had taken the organisation's standard slide deck and pared it back. “Pared it back?”, I thought incredulously.  Well it was still simply ridiculous.         The other issue was the delivery.  Our speaker chose to stand in front of the monitor and read to us what was on the screen, while having his back to us for most of the presentation.  Fortunately, he was handsome, urbane, charming, international and articulate. He had all the natural advantages to carry the room to his way of thinking. Unfortunately, he failed completely.        What could our erstwhile hero have done?  He made the slide deck the centerpiece of the presentation, instead of making his messages the key points.  We should all take note and carefully cull our ideas and distill them down to only the most powerful and important. We should present only one idea per slide, restrict the colour palette to two colours for contrast and try to keep it zen-like simple.  If our audience cannot grasp the key point of any slide in two seconds, then it needs more paring back.         Find out more when we come back from the break Welcome backGraphs are great visual prompts during presentations and the temptation is to use them as unassailable evidence.  This usually means trying to pack the graph with as much information as possible, showing long periods of comparison and multiple data points for edification.  Instead think of them like screen wallpaper.  They form a visual background. We can then go to another slide showing the turning point in isolation, reducing all the noise on the slide, so our eyes can focus on the key data.   Also, we can have a pop up cover the background data, with a special key number, emphasised in very large font.  In this way, we can cut through all the clutter and draw out the critical proof we want our audience to buy.  Trying to pack it all on one screen is a formula for persuasion suicide, because we lose our audience.           We need to learn some very basic logistics about presenting.  Despite how the organisers have set up the space, move things around if possible to give yourself the best shot to present as a professional. They can see us and we can use our gestures, facial expressions and body language to back up the words we are saying.           Changing the layout of the slides and the delivery would have made the speaker's messages clearer and more attractive.  None of the things I have suggested to him are complex or difficult.  Why then are we still assailed with unprofessional presentations from smart people? He remained resistant, so I saw him riding off into the sunset on his quixotic quest to convert others to his organisation's point of view.  Good luck with that one buddy! Action Steps Make yourself, not the slides, the centerpiece of your presentation Don't bombard your audience with a visual multi-coloured extravaganza – go for zen when designing your slide deck Don't put too many graphs on one slide – two at most is a good rule Try to position yourself facing your audience to the audience left of the screen Keep the light up, so you can see and be seen THE Cutting Edge Japan Business Show is here to help you succeed in Japan.  Subscribe on YouTube, share it with your family, friends and colleagues, become a regular. 70: The Importance of Pooping, Optimizing Digestion, and the Gut and Hormone Connection

Why is daily pooping important? Jillian Teta talks about the importance of optimizing our gut health and its connection to our hormones. We also chat about the things that we can do to positively impact our microbiome and promote digestive health beyond just changing our diet. You can find all the info and links about this episode at https://holisticwellness.ca/episode70. Topics Discussed in this Episode: The digestive process in a nutshell The connection between your gut health and your hormones How to overcome constipation Strategies that you can implement to support your gut Why it’s important to maintain a healthy and robust microbiome The two options for stool testing What candida is and how to get rid of it The optimal gut-healing diet What gluten does to your body in terms of digestion and autoimmunity The elimination challenge diet The role that nature plays in the health of your microbiome Jillian’s thoughts on the carnivore diet Key Takeaways: Your gut acts like the Grand Central Station of your entire body. It is intimately connected with every other cell and system in your body, including the hormonal system, the detoxification system, the immune system, the neurological system, and the cardiovascular system. The gut holds two of the big five organs of detoxification -- the liver and the large intestine. The liver is primarily in charge of metabolizing and neutralizing estrogen. Once estrogen is neutralized, it is sent to the large intestine to be expelled out of the body. If you’re not pooping every day, that means your estrogen is sitting in your stool, and it gets reabsorbed back into the system and ends up back in the liver. This contributes to estrogen dominance. About 20% of your thyroid hormone T4 is converted to the active form T3 via the activity of your microbiome. If your microbiome is not healthy, it’s arguable that this conversion is compromised. Candida is part of a normal human gut flora. Issues can arise if it overgrows. This happens when one of our defenses is breached, usually due to an antibiotic knocking out your beneficial flora. Gluten is not universally terrible for everybody, but it’s a fact that it causes an issue for the gut and impacts autoimmunity. Sleep is absolutely key for digestive health. When we sleep, the parasympathetic branch of our nervous system becomes more active.   Action Steps: Make sure that you poop every day. Overcome constipation quickly and easily by drinking lots of water and supplementing with magnesium glycinate. Heal your gut through your diet. If you have an autoimmune condition, avoid gluten at all cost. If you absolutely have to take antibiotics, make sure to take probiotics alongside it.   Jillian said: “If you think about that large intestine as a parking lot, you want all those spaces filled with good guys. If you take an antibiotic and knock some of those good guys out, the highly opportunistic fast-growing microorganisms are going to move in.” “I think we overemphasize candida, and I think we emphasize the wrong types of information about candida. And I think it created a culture that thinks that everybody and everything has candida.”   Thanks for listening! Important Announcements: Join my FREE 10-Day Detox! Happy 2019 Empirenistas! Are you ready to plan for a successful year? I am super excited for all that we have in store this year and I can't wait to tell you all about it! It's definitely going to be an amazing year for all of us Visit http://www.aliciahenderson.biz/podcast/ for the complete show notes of every podcast episode.   Topics Discussed in this Episode: Speaking things into existence and putting in the work to make things happen Tips to have a year of success My personal and business goals for 2019 Key Takeaways: Planning is very strategic, and it's fun. When you plan, you already foresee the results that are going to take place, and you have more chances of getting better results. When you know the things that worked for you in the past, then as far as strategies for your business are concerned, you know what to continue. When you have no strategy in place, you don't get the results that you want. The things that worked for you in the past should become a part of your strategy. You should not feel wiped out when you're done doing something. You should be excited, you should be ecstatic, and you should be anticipating good results.   Action Steps: Make sure that you take some time to plan and be prepared for the year. Plan for things that you know you're going to love for your business and for your clients. Tips for planning: Review the previous year and take note of the things that worked and the things that didn't. And then try to see what you can improve upon. Identify your goals. Start with a big vision for the whole 12 months. Set your goals. Take a look at the whole year and see where you can place them while keeping things realistic. Identify time wasters. Take a look at what projects you have in mind and ask yourself: Is this something that I really need to be doing or is it just a distraction so that I can't get ready to go? How will this help me grow, and how will it help me make money? Could this be passed on to a team member or outsourced for someone else to do outside of my company? Adjust and leave room to move things around. Don't be so rigid with your schedule. Not everything has to be concrete but it does have to come out. Scale back and focus on the projects that will give you the results versus the many projects that won't get done.   Alicia says: “I believe in speaking things into existence and I believe in walking in faith. And that means, you don't see the things that you want to take place, you know that they're going to happen, and you're going to put the work in to do so.” “Let's be an overcomer and an actual winner… When we set ourselves for failure with these unrealistic things, we are not winners when we do it. Be real with yourself.”   Thanks for listening! Did you find yourself indulging a little bit too much over the holidays? How can you get back on track with your diet and your health and nutrition and balancing hormones now that the new year has come? A sugar detox just might be what you need! You can find all the info and links about this episode at https://holisticwellness.ca/episode42 Topics Discussed in this Episode: Why sugar is bad for you Why you need a sugar detox Simple strategies for sugar detoxing that will help you combat sugar addiction What sugar detoxing could look like Why flour and artificial sweeteners are worse than sugar How to support your cravings and balance your blood sugar Key Takeaways: Sugar is eight times more addictive than cocaine. Sugar in all its forms, not fat, is the culprit behind many diseases as well as obesity. When it comes to fat, it’s so essential that we eat the right kinds of fat and avoid trans-fats. The average American consumes about 152 lbs of sugar a year, which is roughly 22 teaspoons every day. Kids consume 34 teaspoons of sugar every day. That’s more than two 20 oz sodas, making nearly one in four teenagers prediabetic or diabetic. A sugar detox will really help you break this addictive cycle of over-consuming carbs and sugar and just really managing these cravings that can really rob you of your health. It can literally take just a matter of 10 days for you to start feeling better, losing weight, having more energy, sleeping better, and managing those cravings really, really well. The first few days are going to be a little bit painful. You are going to have more cravings. If you are really addicted to sugar and drinking a lot of artificial sweeteners in the form of diet drinks, those types of artificial sweeteners are even sweeter than sugar and eliminating those can be more challenging. And so it really does take time to rewire and reset your brain and your body. Excess insulin means fat storage. If we have elevated insulin levels as well as elevated cortisol levels, then we are going to put more weight on our body. Artificial sweeteners will increase your cravings, slow down your metabolism, and lead to fat storage. Artificial flavorings trick your brain into wanting more food and to not feeling fully satiated so that you keep eating more and more. Any form of liquid sugar calories can be worse than solid food because of how quickly it gets digested into the body. It’s basically like you’re mainlining sugar directly into your liver. A can of soda a day increases a child’s risk of obesity by 60% and a woman’s chance of getting type II diabetes by 80%. Studies show that inflammation triggers blood sugar imbalances as well as insulin resistance and type II diabetes. The major culprits are gluten and dairy. Action Steps: Make it a priority to get healthy. Focus on eating whole foods and eliminating sugar as much as you possibly can if you want to have longevity and vitality. When you think about sugar, think beyond the sweets. A lot of people are overdoing it with grains and with bread, so be conscious of not just eliminating the sugar but also being conscious of how much flour products you are taking. Key Strategies: Make a decision to really actually detox and really decide that this is what you want for yourself, that you are going to commit to this, and that you are really going to put a strategy in place for yourself and figure out what that strategy looks like. Commit to going cold turkey. Stop eating all forms of sugar, all flour products, and all artificial sweeteners. Also get rid of trans-fats or hydrogenated fats or foods with MSG or artificial flavorings that cause your taste buds to want and crave more sugar. Don’t drink your calories. Support your cravings and balance your blood sugar at the same time. Power up with some protein. Eat protein at every meal, especially for breakfast. Eat the right kind of carbohydrates. You can have unlimited amounts of carbohydrates in the form of vegetables. Skip your grains, and maybe even the beans and legumes, for 10 days. Make sure you are getting healthy fats. Be ready for emergencies. If you are going to embark on a sugar detox, then you want to make sure that you have food on-hand. Be conscious about stress. Studies show that taking deep breaths activate a special nerve called the vagus nerve that shifts your metabolism from fat storage to fat burning, and it can actually help you move out of the stressed state. Take 5 slow, deep belly breaths: Inhale, extending your belly button, for 5 counts. Hold for 5 counts. Exhale, pushing your belly button into the spine, for 5 counts. Repeat 5 times. Do this every meal, which will help support your digestion. Or do this first thing in the morning when you open your eyes and you’re lying in bed, or do this right before going to sleep. Manage inflammation. Get in the proper amount of sleep. Don’t think about what you’re removing from your die but pay more attention to what you’re adding in to support your health. If you feel like you can’t go cold turkey on sugar, then try replacing your sugar with things like stevia and focus on adding in some real whole foods like protein and fat and making sure you’re getting enough of them at each meal. Pay attention to your carb cravings: How are they showing up? How do you feel by eating more fats and more proteins?   Samantha said: “[Sugar detoxing] is not about deprivation. You can still enjoy delicious, healthy, amazing food... Having the right strategy in place can really help you to combat these cravings and overcome the sugar addiction.” “True psychological addiction is something that has to stop completely, and many people do have a true psychological addiction to sugar. It really is just as addictive as cocaine.” Thanks for listening! There’s still a lot of misinformation about what works and what doesn’t work in the ketogenic diet. The ketogenic diet is such a therapeutic diet and it heals our bodies in such a way that the body that we had a year from starting keto was a completely different body from the body we have today. Holding fear around change actually holds us back from actually accomplishing more with our eating styles. By giving ourselves permission to eat carbs when we feel it’s best for our body, it puts the onus on our body to tell us when it’s time to have carbs. Fasting is a tool that you can use at your disposal. Action Steps: Make sure that you’re doing the ketogenic diet right and figure out what works for you. Take note of your blood color during your period and find out what it could mean for your health. Switch to using a menstruation cup instead of the usual menstrual pads. Use carb-ups to your benefit. Use fasting as a tool according to what works best for you. Leanne said: Being in a constant state of ketosis maybe isn’t that great, just like riding your bike 24/7 isn’t great… Dipping in and out of ketosis with the ebb and flow of foods available and activities going on, that just makes more of a lifestyle change that you can live long-term.” “It’s important for anyone, regardless if you’re a blogger or a nutritionist or an expert in whatever, to show vulnerability in whatever you do because that’s how you live from your truth and you continue to learn more about yourself and about the world around you.” Thanks for listening! Are you having hormonal issues that you’re looking to overcome? How can you start eliminating the symptoms that you’re having? My Summer Hormone Detox Program may just be what you need! Find out what it’s all about and get the support that you’re looking for! Topics Discussed in this Episode: What my Summer Hormone Detox Program is all about Who my Summer Hormone Detox Program is for All the goodies that you can get from my Summer Hormone Detox Program What you can expect from the Hormone and Support Masterclass Key Takeaways: The Summer Hormone Detox Program is a program that uses nutrition as a foundation. You get a 7-day detox meal plan that works specifically to detox out excess estrogen, support liver detoxification and support your thyroid. Your hormones need fat to function and they also balance and stabilize your blood sugar, so you really do need to include those healthy fats in your diet. Following the meal plan for 7 days doesn’t mean that you’re going to eliminate all your symptoms in 7 days. It’s about creating that foundation so that you can start eliminating these symptoms over time. The more frequently we eat throughout the day, the more we spike our blood sugar and the more chances of causing imbalanced hormones and putting on weight. Action Steps: Make a commitment to spend more time outdoors and get your daily dose of Vitamin D. Enjoy Mother Nature by going outside and breathing in fresh air, and maybe getting your feet on the grass or swimming in the lake. Support your liver in the detoxification process by giving it the amino acids that it needs and getting in lots of antioxidants in your diet. Cut back on snacking and just stick to eating three meals a day. But if you really can’t help it, choose the right snacks that are going to help support and balance your blood sugar. Samantha said: “It’s really about empowering you so that you can better understand your hormonal health and your physiology and really make empowered choices for yourself… It’s really about creating this trickle-down effect so that we can all heal and support each other…” “When it comes to balancing hormones, what goes on the skin goes in. And we really need to support our hormonal health by ditching the beauty care chemicals and the toxins.” Thanks for listening! I hope to see you in the Summer Hormone Detox Program! It’s going to be a delicious way to detox and support your body! What does it take to build a massive brand? Find out as Brand and Marketing Strategist Tanya Watkins tells her story of how she created her brand and how she is helping other women become change-makers by finding their voice in the business world.   Topics Discussed in this Episode: What branding really means and the strategies behind building a brand Tips on how you can turn your side hustle into your main hustle and transitioning from your corporate job to managing your business. What Massive Branding is all about The common mistakes that people make when building a brand   4 Key Takeaways: Branding is not about the fonts and the colors or the logo. It's about the experience you are able to give your clients. The way that you show up in your job is the way you will show up in your business. Build a reputation of excellence around you because the people that you work with now can potentially become your clients in the future. Having a massive brand is not about having millions of followers but about having repeatable clients because of the quality of what you are able to offer them.   Action Steps: Make sure you have an exit strategy in place before you leave your job. Test your process out with your clients and make sure that you have something that you can duplicate. Invest in your business. Make adjustments. When something is not working, it doesn't mean you have to throw the whole thing out, just make adjustments. Take time for self-care. Don't discount the time that you need to recharge your mind and body.   Tanya says: “There's so much potential in some of our strategies that we don't dive deep enough and we miss thousands of dollars.”   “You can't serve if you are not serving yourself.”   Thanks for listening!   Don't forget to connect with Tanya and me on our social media platforms. How are you making choices that are aligned with your higher self? Today, I’m announcing some short-term changes in the structure of this podcast, and talk about how this relates to mindfulness. I also share how you can use the lessons that I’m learning to be more uplifted and present in your life. Listen and be inspired! 5 Key Takeaways We have the ability to be present and choose how we respond to life. It can be true in any situation that you can imagine. When we are present with our children without the need to do something else, we tend to feel relaxed. Mindfulness is a practice where I am blocking out time. This is time where I focus solely on my children and not anything else. We must check in with ourselves; otherwise, we’ll do things merely out of obligation or to meet the expectations of others around us. When everything has to get done and everything is equally important, something happens that can take you out of that game. None of those things are going to get done.   Quotes “It’s 100% possible to craft a lifestyle that you would love.” “You can’t stop the waves from coming, but you can learn to surf.” - Jon Kabat-Zinn “I think that there is room in this world for us to be successful entrepreneurs and to gently balance the other commitments, passions, joys, responsibilities that we have.”   Action Steps Make conscious choices on how you want to design your life. Ask yourself, “What do I want my day to look like?” I invite you to check in with yourself and reflect on the same questions that I now ask: Is my life currently reflecting all the values that I hold?   Am I putting my time, attention, and energy in all the places that I want to do so? Is there enough time and energy in reserves to carry me into additional projects that are so meaningful to me?   Thank you for listening!   Resource Mentioned Full Catastrophe Living   More from Bridgett Tulloh   Let's connect.
