What moments stand out? What were your big wins—and what lessons did you learn along the way?Action Steps: - Take 15 minutes today to reflect on your wins and challenges. - Write down at least three wins and three lessons. - How did those lessons change the way you think or work? - What will you do differently next year because of them? - Be sure to include any moments of rejection in your list. How did you react to it? What can you learn from those moments of ‘no'? The Mindset You Need Moving Forward:This is where things can truly change. You can have all the tools, all the strategies in the world - but if you don't have the right mindset, it's all for nothing. Action Steps:- Take a moment and think about where your mindset is right now. - Are you being proactive, or are you waiting for things to happen? - Write down the biggest mental barrier that's holding you back. - What's one way you can challenge it in the coming week?Don't shy away from the hard work that's ahead. Embrace it. It's the grind that leads to greatness!Setting Your Goals for the New Year:We've all set goals that sound good in theory, but they don't actually move the needle. Action Steps:- Set three specific, measurable, achievable goals for the upcoming year. - Make sure they're aligned with your bigger vision and break them down into actionable steps. - What will you do this week, this month, this quarter to get closer to them? Remember, as you tackle these goals, the hard work never stops. Consistency is the key to unlocking success. The Power of Consistency and Execution:This is where so many people fall short. It's easy to start strong, but what sets successful people apart is the ability to keep going, even when motivation wanes. Motivation is a great spark, but it's consistency that fuels the fire.Action Steps: - What's one small habit you can commit to every day for the next 30 days that will bring you closer to your goals? - Make it so small that there's no excuse not to do it. And I want you to track your progress every day. So there you have it. The key to success next year isn't waiting for the perfect moment - it's about starting right now. Reflect on your wins, set clear goals, develop the mindset that will carry you through, and stay consistent. In episode 82 of Soul Care for Therapists, Dawn Gabriel interviews Whitney Owens, a licensed professional counselor, group practice owner, and faith-based private practice consultant. Whitney shares her passion for connecting faith-based practice owners and making changes in the world by helping them have the lifestyle they want to do and the work they want to do with God in the process. Whitney Owens is a licensed professional counselor, group practice owner, and faith-based private practice consultant. She is located in Savannah, Georgia, where she manages a private pay group practice with 10 plus clinicians. Along with running her practice, she consults practice owners around the country on how to start and grow a successful faith-based practice. She hosts summits, a weekly podcast, and a membership community for faith-based practice owners called Wise Practice. She has spoken at numerous events such as both the Georgia and Maryland annual professional counselors conferences as well as trainings for Florida's Counseling Association. In 2023 she will be speaking at Meet You in Kentucky, which is for group practice owners, as well as hosting her own summit in Savannah. In her free time, Whitney enjoys spending time with her husband and two girls, running, reading, and relaxing in the backyard. A Passionate Faith-Based Private Practice Consultant Whitney Owens is passionate about connecting faith-based practice owners and making changes in the world by helping them have the lifestyle they want and the work they want to do with God in the process. She believes in the power of faith and how it can make a difference in the lives of those who practice it. According to Whitney, "You can't create it yourself. I can put a structure together, but all I can do is wait on God." Whitney believes in the power of God in connecting people. When God shows up, it's magical and indescribable. Whitney believes in being open to the Spirit and letting it guide her. During a retreat to Asheville, she realized that rushing was her problem. She wasn't making space for the Holy Spirit. The retreat was about rest and making space for the Holy Spirit to stop. Whitney learned that she needs to stop and take time to read and soak in the words of a song instead of just listening to it. She had a weeping moment that reminded her of the importance of community, crying with one another, and making that space to do life differently. Being vulnerable allows people to “know you” and connect with you. Changing Lives Through Faith-Based Practice Whitney is passionate about changing lives through faith-based practice. She believes that it's important to help faith-based practice owners have the lifestyle they want and the work they want to do with God in the process. Whitney hosts Summits, a weekly podcast and a membership community for faith-based practice owners. She loves to plan big parties with her besties and sell tickets to help her pay for the Summit. She believes that when people come together with open hearts and minds, God will show up and change lives. Breaking Down Your Own Walls in Leadership Whitney believes that breaking down your own walls is essential to being a great leader. According to Whitney, "When you're starting a business, it's hard not to get caught up in the comparison game. You're looking at other people's practices and thinking, oh, they're doing so well, they're doing better than me." She advises against this mentality and recommends being true to yourself and your vision. Whitney believes in taking the time to get to know yourself and understanding what you want. She advises against creating a vision board without knowing what you truly want. Being True to Yourself and Your Vision Whitney believes in being true to yourself and your vision. She believes that it's important to take the time to get to know yourself and your goals before creating a vision board. She recommends looking inward and understanding what you want before creating a board that aligns with your vision. Action Steps Take time for rest and reflection: As Whitney shared, it's important to make space for the Holy Spirit in our lives by taking time for rest and reflection. This can involve setting aside regular periods of time for meditation or prayer, going on retreats, or simply taking a break from the busyness of daily life. Embrace community: Whether it's through attending conferences, joining a support group, or simply reaching out to colleagues in your field, cultivating community can help you to feel supported and connected in your work. Be open to change: As Whitney mentioned, it's important to be open to the Spirit's leading, even if it means deviating from our plans or expectations. This can involve being willing to take risks, trying new things, and being open to feedback and criticism from others. Whitney Owens offers valuable insights for anyone in a leadership position, whether in the field of counseling or elsewhere. By breaking down our own walls and embracing vulnerability, cultivating community, and being open to change, we can become more effective and compassionate leaders, capable of making a positive impact in the world. All-Star Marriage Podcast Episode 3: "The Marathon of Marriage: How to Keep Going When You Feel Like Quitting" A Funny Greeting Welcome to the All-Star Marriage Podcast, where we tackle the big questions in life, one episode at a time. It's time to lace up those shoes and get ready to run the marathon of marriage! Intro with Sound Effects Sound of a starting gun being fired Here's a Dad joke for you: What do you call two birds in love? Tweethearts! Sound of footsteps on a jogging trail A Quote That Relates to the Title "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." - Thomas Edison Segment 1: The Struggle Is Real Many people struggle with the idea of "forever" when it comes to relationships. They feel like nobody can guarantee the future, and the concept of "till death do you part" is too abstract. They may also struggle with feeling unhappy or unfulfilled in their relationship. A Story of Famous People and Their Problems Actress Kristen Bell and her husband, Dax Shepard, have been open about the struggles they've faced in their marriage. Despite being together for over a decade, they've had their fair share of ups and downs, including temporarily separating early on in their relationship. However, they both made the conscious decision to keep pushing forward and working on their marriage, even when it was hard. In an interview with People magazine, Dax said, "We go to couples therapy. We make sure that we're talking with respect to each other. When we sit down to have a disagreement, it's a disagreement, not an argument. We always try to laugh, and that's been really helpful." Analogies/Parables to Solve the Issue Think of marriage like running a marathon. You have to pace yourself, stay hydrated, and keep putting one foot in front of the other, even when you're exhausted. You may stumble or fall, but the key is to get back up and keep going. You're in this together, and together you can achieve anything. Segment 2: All-Star Marriage Tip with Sound Effects Sound of a whistle blowing One tip for keeping your marriage strong is to never stop learning about each other. Just like athletes constantly train and improve their skills, couples should make an effort to grow together and deepen their understanding of one another. Old Wisdom One classic technique for improving communication is to adopt a "mirroring" approach. This means repeating back what your partner said to you in your own words to ensure that you understood correctly and to show that you're actively listening. Action Steps Take some time to sit down together and discuss how you can incorporate these tips into your daily lives. Make it a priority to learn something new about each other every day and to actively practice good communication. Segment 3: Q&A with Sound Effects 1. Sarah asks: "How do I know when it's time to give up on my marriage?" Answer: Giving up should never be the first option. It's important to work through your issues, seek help if necessary, and make a genuine effort to improve your relationship. If after trying everything, the relationship is still not fulfilling, couples could explore the possibility of an amicable separation. 2. Mike asks: "My partner and I have different ideas about how to handle finances. How can we work through this?" Answer: One approach to addressing differences in financial management is to create a budget together. This will help you both to know where your money is going and can provide a basis for discussion and compromise. It's also important to be open and honest with each other about your concerns and priorities. 3. Lisa asks: "How do we keep the spark alive in our marriage after many years together?" Answer: Remember that intimacy isn't just about physical touch. It's about emotional connection as well. Make an effort to show affection in small ways throughout the day, such as holding hands or sending a thoughtful text message. All-Star Marriage Podcast Episode 2: The Similarities Between Coaching a Sports Team and a Marriage Tagline: Exploring the big questions in life, one episode at a time Greeting: Welcome to the All-Star Marriage Podcast, where we explore the big questions in life, one episode at a time. I'm your host, Johnathan Hines, and in today's episode, we're going to be talking about the similarities between coaching a sports team and a marriage. Dad's Joke: Why did the coach go to the bank? To get his quarterback! (Crowd cheering sound effect) Quote: "Success in marriage, as in sports, requires teamwork, communication, and a shared goal." - Dr. John C. Maxwell (Cheering sound effect) Segment 1: The Struggle is Real Many people struggle with the idea that marriage and sports coaching share anything in common. They fail to see that both require strong leadership, clear communication, and a complete trust in your teammates. It can be difficult to apply these principles, especially when emotions are involved, but by keeping your eye on the prize and working together, you can achieve greatness. Famous Person's Story: Coach Sean McVay, who led the Los Angeles Rams to Super Bowl LIII, struggled to balance his demanding coaching schedule with his personal life. He realized that the same principles he applied to leading his team could be applied to his marriage - communication, teamwork, and a shared goal. By prioritizing his wife and setting clear boundaries, Coach McVay was able to excel in both areas of his life. Analogies/Parables: Imagine you're a coach of a soccer team. Before the game, you give your players a clear game plan and make sure everyone is on the same page. But during the game, you notice that the players are not following the plan and are playing individually. They lose the game. The same can happen in marriage. You and your partner may have a clear plan for your life and relationship, but if one of you deviates from the plan and acts on your own, it can lead to conflict and failure. It's important to stay on the same page and work as a team. Segment 2: All-Star Marriage Tip Tip: Just like a sports team, it's important for married couples to have a clear mission statement. This statement outlines the couple's shared purpose, values, and goals. By creating a mission statement together, couples can align their actions and focus their energy toward achieving their desired outcome. Old Wisdom: "Happy wife,Happy Husband happy life." This classic piece of advice rings true even today. When your partner is happy and fulfilled, they will be more likely to support and encourage you, leading to a stronger, more loving partnership. New Ways: With technology advancing rapidly, couples can now use apps and digital tools to enhance their marriage. From shared calendars and to-do lists to virtual counseling sessions, technology can help couples stay connected and organized in their busy lives. Action Steps: Take the time to sit down with your partner and create a mission statement for your marriage. Review it frequently to ensure that you're on the same page and aligned in your goals. (Keyboard typing sound effect) Segment 3: Q&A Question 1: Samantha asks, "My husband and I argue constantly about who's responsible for what household chores. How can we break this cycle?" Answer 1: It's important to identify and communicate both of your expectations when it comes to household responsibilities. Sit down together and create a clear game plan, dividing chores and tasks equally. Be open to compromise and understand that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Question 2: Tyler asks, "How do I balance coaching my son's football team and spending time with my wife?" Answer 2: It's all about prioritizing and creating boundaries. Make sure your wife understands your coaching schedule and communicate with her frequently to ensure that you're still connected. Find meaningful ways to involve her in your coaching experience, such as having her help with team snacks or attending the games. Question 3: Lisa asks, "What can I do to improve communication with my partner?" Answer 3: Practice active listening and be open to hearing your partner's perspective without judgment. Use "I" statements instead of "you" statements when discussing grievances. Schedule regular check-ins to ensure that you're both on the same page, and don't be afraid to seek outside help from a counselor or coach. Conclusion: In marriage and in sports coaching, teamwork, communication, and a shared goal are key to success. By balancing our priorities and creating clear pathways to success, we can achieve greatness in all areas of our lives. Motivational/Hope: As you go forward in your marriage and coaching journey, remember

Have you ever thought about working with a mentor or coach before? If you are serious about achieving your biggest goals, you should seriously consider it. Working with a coach is a great way to 10x your results in almost any area of life. Having someone to teach you the ropes, or build more accountability into your life, is a wonderful way to ensure you achieve more. If you are wondering if working with a coach could help you, please consider these benefits. Helps You Define Your Goals Many of us have goals, but often they are general (or not at all) defined. A coach can help take the hopes and dreams out of your head to create concrete goals. Instead of just wanting something, you start taking real steps towards it. Adds More Accountability to Your Life It's funny, but we have a much easier time letting ourselves down than we do letting others down. Having a coach means one more person in your life you don't want to let down. You will feel more accountable and be more likely to achieve your goals when you know someone will ask you about your progress. Encourages You to Define Your Values Do you know what you stand for? Maybe a better question is, do you know your core values? Regardless of the question, if you struggle with either of the answers, then a coach could help you. A coach can't answer these questions for you, but they can ask you questions that will help you define them yourself. Action Steps: Take some time to think about different areas of your life that could use a mentor to move you forward. Write them down in a list. We do offer that in Parallelogram Institute with appointment only. If you would like for us to help you, email us at info@parallelograminsitute.com. A lot of times people can learn from your experiences, but you may feel like you're not socially allowed to talk about yourself! As odd as it may sound...you may be hurting the others around you by being too humble and NOT talking about yourself! Action Steps: Take inventory of where you're skilled/experienced Listen to last week's podcast about how to communicate your lessons (025 Quit ignoring your wins)

Everyone needs a Student. This is someone you can pour into and who is behind you in a certain area of life. Many people underestimate the value of the student role because they are self-centered, and it doesn't seem to benefit them. However, having a student in your life can strengthen your own knowledge in a certain area and give you a fresh perspective on it.Everyone needs a Teacher. This is someone who is ahead of you in some area and can pour into you.A teacher can be either a mentor or a coach. Make sure you know the difference and are very intentional about which one you bring into your life.A coach is typically someone you pay to help you develop skills in a specific area over time. This relationship is typically hands on and professional in tone.A mentor is usually someone you do not pay to help you grow and develop as a person. This relationship is much more informal and tends to be more personal in nature. You can approach most coaches at any time (as long as they're taking on clients), but with mentors, you must be more sensitive to their schedules.Coaches and mentors are not the same as therapists or surrogate parents. They are often extremely busy and do not have time for coddling or intense emotional support.Everyone needs a Friend. This is someone who is basically on the same level as you, so the two of you can encourage each other.Age may or may not be a factor. In other words, you can be a teacher to someone older than you or a student to someone younger than you, depending on the context.Different seasons of your life may require an imbalance of these relationships. In general, you should expect to have more teachers when you’re younger and more students as you get older, while friends are necessary at every stage of life. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)Use your network to connect with people in each of these categories. This can include church and other social organizations, your workplace or online groups/masterminds.One resource I have used for years is Meetup.com. This website allows you to search for people who have similar interests to yours and meet in your area. I've used it to find several great writing groups that have greatly enriched my social life.Action Steps:Take 5-10 minutes to identify which people in your life fall into each of the three categories of relationships described in this episode (student, teacher, friend). If you don’t know anyone who meets the criteria for one or more of these categories, jot down some ideas for how you can meet people who might fill these roles.
Is supplementing really necessary? What are some of the essential nutrients that you might be missing in your diet? Find out how you can have a strategic supplement regimen and use supplements along with natural food sources to really support the imbalances that you might be experiencing with your diet and nutrition. You can find all the info and links about this episode at https://holisticwellness.ca/episode45. Topics Discussed in this Episode: 7 vitamins and minerals that are often overlooked but are really important for women’s health Calcium Zinc Iron Chromium B Vitamins Vitamin D Magnesium What these vitamins and minerals do for you How much of these vitamins and minerals you need daily How you can tell if you are deficient in these nutrients What happens when you don’t have enough of these nutrients The best food sources of each of these vitamins and minerals Key Takeaways: Calcium Not only is calcium important for building and maintaining our strong bones, as we know, but it’s also really important for energy metabolism and muscle contraction. Because your body doesn’t produce calcium on its own, getting it from foods or from supplementation is going to be really important. If your diet is lacking calcium, and especially if you’re physically active, your body will end up leeching off calcium from your bones, which, over time, can lead to osteoporosis. And as our estrogen declines, this can also start to have an impact on our bone health. If you are eating a very acidic diet, this will also impact your bone health because, in order for your body to buffer that acidity, it will have to leech off the calcium from your bones. Daily requirement: 1000 mg for women aged 50 and younger, and 1200 mg to 1500 mg for women over 50 Best food sources (other than dairy): Kale, colored greens, bok choy, sardines, and sesame seeds. Zinc Zinc deficiency can directly affect strength and fitness, especially if you are over-exercising. If you’re dealing with cystic acne, hormonal imbalances, issues with your cycle, PCOS, and PMS, then zinc can be really helpful. If you find that you’re having a lot of issues with digestion or heartburn or acid reflux, this might mean that you have low amounts of hydrochloric acid, so using zinc is going to be great to support your HCl production. Daily requirement: 18 mg to 30 mg Iron It’s an essential mineral that’s found in your red blood cells that helps to transport oxygen throughout your body. If you’re feeling tired or you’re feeling exhausted, or you just can’t get the energy to maybe go work out, this can be because of iron deficiency. Iron deficiency anemia is pretty common in women, especially those who are very active. Daily requirement: 18 mg for 18 years and older, 27 mg for pregnant women, and about 10 mg for lactating women. Best food sources: Spinach, pasture-raised organic grass-fed beef, turkey, and beans. Chromium Chromium in an insulin cofactor, and it helps to transport branch chain amino acids into the muscle. Without sufficient amounts of chromium, you could be at risk for uncontrolled blood sugar and insulin resistance. Chromium deficiency will typically leave you feeling sluggish, fatigued, weak, moody, and maybe even anxious. Daily requirement: About 25 μg for women between the ages 19 and 50, about 30 μg for pregnant women, and roughly around 45 μg for lactating women. Best food sources: broccoli, white potatoes, green beans, and turkey. B Vitamins The B vitamins - B12, B6, thiamine, riboflavin - are all required for energy production. Folate and B12, specifically, are required for red blood cell production and repair. Research suggests that dieting and exercising can really increase your requirements for thiamine, riboflavin, and B6. And if you’re really, really stressed, you’re going to need some B5. Daily requirement: A B-100 complex will pretty much cover the bases. Best food sources: Leafy green vegetables and animal proteins. Vitamin D Vitamin D has its hands in a number of physiological functions in the body. It helps to strengthen your bones by helping your body to absorb calcium, it supports your immune function, and it can reduce and control blood pressure. It always plays an important role in your insulin and blood sugar management. Recommended daily amount: 600 IU Best sources: Sunlight, fish oil, eggs, and wild caught fish. Magnesium Approximately 67% of the magnesium in the body is found in the bones and the teeth. This is why it’s so important when we are supporting our bone health that we make sure that magnesium is in the mix. Magnesium is also important for supporting progesterone production as well as for detoxification. It’s great for stress and for helping to relieve any coronary artery spasm that can lead to a severe heart attack. Best food sources: Dark leafy greens, different seeds, and cacao. Action Steps: Take supplements, but also focus on eating a really clean whole foods diet at the same time. Get tested and check your bone strength and bone health and make sure that there are no issues like osteoporosis. If there are issues like that, make sure that you’re not just supplementing with calcium but that you’re supplementing with a mineral bone complex. Zinc and copper compete for absorption in the body, so make sure that as you are supplementing with zinc, you are also getting that tiny dose of copper. Take an iron supplement that is chelated, like iron bisglycinate, which means it’s chelated with an amino acid that helps with its absorbability. If you have a heavy cycle, get your iron levels tested and check your ferritin levels. If your levels are low, then you probably need to supplement with iron. Take vitamin C along with your iron supplement for better absorption. Take a B-100 complex to cover your B vitamin needs. Get tested for your B12. If you’re really low in B12, then on top of the B-100 complex, supplement with a sublingual B12. Get your vitamin D levels tested, and test at multiple points throughout the year after you start supplementing. Go outside and get enough sunlight. Samantha said: “What we want to do is look at our diet and really be choosing a variety of whole foods in order to really use our diet as like our multivitamin.” “You’re going to get way more support by taking these whole foods forms of fruits and vegetables or a greens powder, and I feel that those will oftentimes be more beneficial than a [multivitamin].” Thanks for listening! There is no technical, medical description or even diagnosis for it, but it’s the time when women experience shifting periods. If your period starts coming regularly close together, like 21 days or less, that’s a cause for concern. You definitely need to visit your gynecologist just to rule out endometrial buildup at that point. Once your progesterone level drops, it’s never coming back. Menopause in and of itself is a state of chronic, low-level inflammation, and women can correct that with hormone therapy. For women who are drinking more than two glasses of wine a night, it increases their estrogen by 250%. Women in menopause need to get comfortable with lifting weights and with things like Pilates. Action Steps: Take your 40s seriously and make sure that you’re eating nutrient-dense food. Learn to get in touch with your own body and have some type of stress-relieving practice. You can’t live without cortisol, but make sure that it’s not too high or too low. Respect your body’s rhythms. Get some sun in the morning. Get adequate sleep. Eat nutrient-dense food. Don’t eat the same foods over and over again. Have an educated discussion with your physician about using birth control pills. Take the DUTCH Test. Support your immune system. Exercise and reduce your toxic load. Support your bile production. Find non-food ways to socialize and give yourself a boost. If you absolutely can’t get rid of your perfume, at least don’t spray it on your neck, spray it on your clothes instead. Maria said: “Hormones don’t work if you’re eating bad food and you’re drinking way too much alcohol and you’re not sleeping, don’t bother doing hormones. It’s a whole package.” “Hormones don’t exist in a vacuum. They go into receptors… And if those receptors need nutrients and if you don’t have those nutrients and you have just a buildup of toxins in the body, then your hormones are not going to be able to appropriately connect with the receptors.” Thanks for listening! How do you make peace with your food and with your body? Clinical nutritionist and founder of Going Beyond the Food Academy, Stephanie Dodier speaks about the connection between emotional eating and our desires behind wanting to lose weight, and how we can end the diet cycle and have a more positive body image. You can find all the info and links about this episode at https://holisticwellness.ca/episode39. Topics Discussed in this Episode: Stephanie’s health journey What it means to ‘go beyond the food’ The ‘food obsessed’ paradigm Why some women struggle with self-respect and self-care The diet culture Body positivity and body neutrality The 4-step process to overcoming emotional eating, food craving, and binging The ‘all-or-nothing’ trap and how to avoid it Key Takeaways: Part of the job that food does is address the emotional component of eating. The question is, how are you using it? Are you using food to numb, to avoid, or to feel better? Do you use it to emphasize good emotions or do you just eat when you’re hungry? The healing mechanism of going beyond the food is around mindfulness and really being present with your emotions and not fearing your emotions. To engage in self-respect and self-care, we must first have a relationship of love and appreciation towards ourselves. About 2% of what society pushes forward as what your body should look like is only 2% of the world. Self-discovery is a threatening aspect to our current society’s model because when you know who you are, you no longer to try to fit the mold. You no longer seek external recognition because you have it within you. Body positivity is about accepting all body types in all forms and color, and about bringing that body forward to change the standard of society. Body neutrality is self-acceptance and self-compassion about your body. It’s understanding who you are and having a relationship with who you are from a place of accepting your body for what it is. Action Steps: Take this quiz and find out your food freedom score. This is one way that you can detect if you have a behavior around food that is maybe too emotional or numbing. Don’t avoid pain. Let yourself go through it, and you’ll find out that it’s actually not that bad. We often make it up to be much worse than it actually is. Ask yourself: How much of your current struggle with food is due to body image? And start working your way towards body positivity and body neutrality. The 4-step process to overcoming emotional eating, food craving, and binging: Think of your food urges and set them up into two categories: Am I physically hungry or am I emotionally hungry? If you’re physically hungry, go eat. But if you’re having the urge to eat because of emotional reasons, then step away from food. Engage in a breathing exercise or the so-called ‘crave cure formula’: Close your eyes and start breathing through your nose until you’re more relaxed and into yourself. Once you’re in that calm space, start scanning your body inside your head and try to understand which emotion is inside of you and where it’s coming from. Stephanie said: “Going beyond the food is about understanding your relationship to food and how food serves you beyond nutrition. That doesn’t mean that nutrition does not have a place. Food is healing… but it also serves an emotional component.” “There’s a movement called ‘body positivity’ that is starting to push the expectation of society against what our body should look like. But for all of us… we have to do the work internally in ourselves to get there and not wait for society’s standard to change.” Thanks for listening! Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the things that you need to get done? Sometimes we are so focused on trying to get to the top of the mountain but we forget the importance of the steps that it takes to actually get there. In this episode, I share some of my reflections and insights that will hopefully help to guide you to more power and possibility. Visit https://holisticwellness.ca/podcast for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: The importance of acknowledging yourself Overwhelm a.k.a My Way of Controlling the Future Taking control of your health by making the right choices Showing up from a place of integrity and cleaning up your life with the out-of-integrity list Experiencing joy and happiness Standing for the possibility of who people can be Why you shouldn’t sacrifice your wellbeing Why it’s never about the money Coming from a place of love vs coming from a place of fear Functioning in Have, Do, Be vs functioning in Be, Do, Have How more work could often lead to less living Key Takeaways: We often think that things aren’t moving fast enough or that we’re not doing more. But it’s not about the “doing”, it’s about the “being”. You can’t be your optimal self if all you do is the former and not the latter. Overwhelm is an inability to be present that we create from a place of fear. It’s something that allows you to play small, to hide out in fear, and it ultimately makes you really ineffective. Recognizing overwhelm allows you to more easily pull yourself out of it and move forward. Doing things with integrity is like cleaning up the good, the bad, and the ugly, not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. Whatever it is in your life, if you’re not getting results, check your integrity. Joy and happiness is not something that you wait for. You create it, you cultivate it, and it is a choice to experience it. Many people are more committed to their current circumstance than their future. They don’t value themselves so they don’t invest in themselves. Committing to yourself means that you have a deep sense of self-worth. We either come from a place of love or a place of fear. Fear is tied up in our excuses about time, money, and relationships. It’s also tied up with frustration, overwhelm, lack, worry, and doubt. Love is solid. It’s grounded, and it’s rooted, and it’s full of faith in yourself, in the future, and in the universe. Action Steps: Take some time to journal and come up with new insights into your life, your family, your relationships, and your business. Consider the following questions: What are you more committed to? Where are you sacrificing yourself currently in your life? Where in your life are you pushing to get a result, versus letting it flow? Are you functioning from Have, Do, Be vs. Be, Do, Have? What does your future self look like? What do they do? How are they being? Samantha said: “Does everybody get to this point of having more confidence and being more courageous? No, not necessarily. But it takes time, it takes commitment, it takes openness and lots of willingness, and a whole lot of self-love.” “Start to live in your truth now so that you can empower those around you to live in their power. Because that’s what it’s really about. When we start to step more powerfully into who we are, then we can give that ability to others to do the same.” Thanks for listening! Are you someone who has been wanting to exercise and wanting to be fit and healthy over the years? Today, we are going to talk about the physical aspect of breaking through that groundhog day and getting back to what feels good to your body through intuitive exercise. Visit http://thetruthaboutliving.com/podcast/ for complete show notes of every podcast episode Topics Discussed in this Episode: How exercise changes many things for us What is intuitive exercising What intuitive exercise would look like for you in your life Key Takeaways: Exercise makes us feel good. Not only do we feel stronger and more flexible but it actually really lifts our state and our mood. When we do something that is in some way automated and we follow some kind of prescribed plan, we are relinquishing some control over it and our level of involvement is reduced. When it comes to exercise, depending on your goals, there are prescribed exercise plans that tell you what to, that you simply have to follow. With intuitive exercise, you are being in tune with yourself and you are more aware of how your body feels as you’re doing things, rather than just following along with the exercise plan that you were given. As you exercise, the more in tune you are with how your body feels, the more connected you are with yourself. And the more in tune you are with your intuition, the less distracted you are and the more at peace you are. As you begin to get more and more comfortable doing the things that you need to do while listening to your body, you may find that you come up with entirely new creative exercise plans for yourself. Action Steps: Take a look at what you’re doing when you exercise and check to see if it’s something that’s really serving you. Get in touch with what you feel your body needs to be doing in order to be healthy and thriving. Take advantage of the programs, the trainers, and the support that is out there that appeal to you, and just begin to exercise. Thank you for listening! Quotes: “To some degree, we choose things that are kind of done for us because there’s something within us that pretends like we don’t know. We trick ourselves into thinking we don’t know what’s best for ourselves.” “It’s so powerful to be able to acknowledge what you need at what point… If we take the reigns of things ourselves, we’ll find that we really do know ourselves.” Resource Mentioned: Bodybuilder.com More from Bridgett Tulloh: Book your Breakthrough Coaching Session here Get the course: The Divine Way of Manifesting - 5 Simple Steps Watch & Subscribe on YouTubeGet $50 off the Life Breakthrough Masterclass
Are you ready for another exciting Q&A episode? Not only am I going to answer some of your questions that I’ve pulled up from Instagram but I’m going to share a crazy story about appendicitis, ovarian cysts, digestion, and all that good stuff that happened to me over these past few weeks. Let’s dive in! Visit https://holisticwellness.ca/podcast for complete show notes of every podcast episode Topics Discussed in this Episode: The reasons why you’re waking up several times during the night and what to do about it The ways you can make your elixirs and what to add to them Key things to keep in mind when you have Hashimoto’s The things that can impact your menstrual cycle Key Takeaways: The top reason women are waking up multiple times during the night is due to blood sugar instability and cortisol issues. Your body cannot heal if you’re not sleeping. When you’re sleeping, that’s how you detoxify and how your body produces human growth hormones. Frankincense essential oil is really great for ovarian cysts. Castor oil is great for detoxification so you can rub it all over your body. It’s also quite soothing and calming, so if you actually find that you have a hard time falling asleep, rub some castor oil all over. Action Steps: Take time off work. Manage your stress and lifestyle intervention. Make sure you stay on top of re-testing. Eliminate as many inflammatory foods as possible. Pay attention to the different shifts in your body. Level up your self-care by scheduling for an osteopathy or a massage. Samantha said: “Pay attention to these different shifts in your body because one little thing starts to have this trickle-down effect and starts to impact so many other things.” “I feel like sometimes we just are unaware of how good we could potentially feel. So go find out what that potential is because I promise you, there are tweaks that shifts that can be made to really allow you to feel so much better.” Thanks for listening! Have you been wanting to build an online business but are not sure about the steps to take? In the Quiet Empire series, I talk about how you can quietly build an online “business of you”, achieve success, and live the life that you’ve always wanted. Visit http://thetruthaboutliving.com/podcast/ for complete show notes of every podcast episode Topics Discussed in this Episode: Moving from the general concept of online entrepreneurship into Quiet Empire, a business built on the idea of sharing what you are already doing How Quiet Empire can be something that will greatly impact your life How you can use Quiet Empire to continue to grow or to make a huge shift in your life How to steadily and easily over time build your online business while you work full-time or operate your business What you need to have a successful online business Key Takeaways: Sometimes we can’t anticipate all of the changes that are to come our way and what’s going to feel right in the future. We are always on this path of perpetual learning, and growth and development, and it’s a beautiful thing. The backstory for the concept of Quiet Empire is kind of the antithesis of what so many marketers out there are selling you today. The idea behind Quiet Empire is to “work full-time on your salary and work part-time on your fortune.” You don’t have to drop everything and suddenly invest all your time, money, and energy into building this new online business. In quietly growing your online business, there is no competition because no one else can you YOU. There is no substantial money investment needed. It’s really just the cost of a domain name and the cost of your time and attention. You can build your online business on the side without any worry that you have to make this profitable right now. Allow it to breathe. Allow it to grow. Allow it to take root and to take shape. Action Steps: Take what you’re doing in life: your loves, your interest, your challenges, your life, document it, make it into online content, and watch it grow. Consistently put out content and build an audience. Find ways to monetize that traffic to your website. (We’ll talk about this.) Get some serious headspace around the commitment level you have around doing an online business. Thank you for listening! If the Quiet Empire piques your interest, I invite you to get on the email list so that you can be notified when I open up an offering for building your own quiet empire. You can find that over at TheTruthAboutLiving.com/quietempire. Quotes: “That’s part of what really sets apart successful entrepreneurs from (the ones who are) not -- is that we can take the punches in the face and we can keep going and get through it ...persevere and come out the other side successful.” (from Gary V) “When you start a blog or let’s say a YouTube channel or a podcast or whatever it is, there is something that works exponentially in your favor that you only experience when you stick with it. There is a time factor. The internet favors a time factor.” Resource Mentioned: Full Speech: Jim Carrey's Commencement Address at the 2014 MUM Graduation More from Bridgett Tulloh: Book a Soul Session or Life Breakthrough with Bridgett here: http://TheTruthAboutLiving.com/private-coaching Get the course: The Divine Way of Manifesting - 5 Simple Steps http://the-truth-about-living.teachable.com/p/the-divine-way-to-manifesting/ Watch & Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgW0B8eytH3KK7RUi6o-7uA Enter your email to be notified when this class opens! http://TheTruthAboutLiving.com/quietempire
Has someone ever told you to “follow your excitement”? One thing that we hear a lot is that it is wise to follow your excitement, and it seems like really good advice. Well, today, this phrase is up for debate. Find out why and see for yourself whether or not “following your excitement” is actually serving you at the point where you are in your life. 6 Key Takeaways There is so much value in everything that we do, it’s not all about just this one big purpose that we haven’t figured out yet. But if you feel that there is something deeper that you’re drawn to, then maybe following your excitement around that will make sense. Something that can be deceiving about “following your excitement” is following your excitement to the detriment of the focus on your bigger, deeper mission. If you’re happy in your pursuit, then it’s all good. But if you feel that you’re following your excitement and it’s more of the shiny object syndrome, then you might want to question: Is this what I want to be doing? Is this the best way for me to be moving forward? Sometimes following your excitement can actually be a distraction from the work that you are meant to be doing. When you begin to move towards something that you feel drawn to in your life, there’s a path you can take there, but there are also going to be about a million distractions along the way. And those distractions can be very seductive. Life is meant to be joyful and you can follow your excitement to do all kinds of fun things. Quotes “If you’re coming from a position of making conscious choices about how you want to live your life, that’s about as good as it can get. That’s a beautiful way to live.” “There are everyday things that we do that are of the utmost importance.” Action Steps • Take a moment and think about a couple of things: Is there a particular kind of work that you feel you are meant to be doing right now? In terms of following your excitement, how is that showing up in your life? • Examine for yourself whether excitement is getting in the way of you showing up to the world. In this episode, Marc reads a chapter of his new audiobook. The topic is knowing yourself. Marc explains the difficulties people cause themselves when they take jobs that are not suited for their personalities, and gives tips for how to cope in situations that are not optimal. Marc offers case studies, and what adjustments were made. Marc also describes several career and personality profile assessments that are available to help you personalize your career search so that your personality traits can flourish at work. Listen in to learn how to make sure the career you target is really a career that fits your personal operating system. Key Takeaways: [2:29] Most of Marc’s clients have their sets of needs, stressors, and behaviors running in the background, like an operating system. This impacts everything about how they feel and function. One might be a deliberate researcher, frustrated by the amount of work his boss gives him. [3:26] The boss doesn’t expect them to research it, just to do it. they need a job where thoroughness would be an asset. Assessments help prevent mismatched expectations. [3:51] The first step to career bliss is to know yourself. Many go after jobs, looking for new circumstances, not knowing where the real problems lay with their previous jobs. Assessments reveal what you need, what stresses you, and what makes you happy. [4:29] Assessments reveal truths about us that we might not realize affect our career. Marc lists several assessments. Marc found the Birkman most valuable for his own assessment. It told him he needed plenty of alone time, balanced with social activity. [6:00] The Birkman Assessment is 298 questions about what you do, think, and believe, and what you think most people do, think, and believe. After all the questions, you sit down with a Birkman advisor, who tells things you sort of knew, deep down. [7:06] Marc’s client scored high on his math SAT, and studied engineering. He was a very emotional, empathetic person. Over the years he learned to act like his colleagues, but he was miserable. The Birkman confirmed that empathy was a strength he hid. [7:53] Marc cites a Fortune Magazine article about the Birkman method. A lot of us behave in ways that are not natural for us, for the sakes of our jobs. That behavior can make us miserable, or we can learn coping skills. We play roles because we get paid to play those roles. Marc schmoozes, but he gets his energy from his time alone. [9:51] Our society is biased towards extroverts. They make more money. They are more accepted as leaders. They are perceived as more competent. Susan Cain says many great thinkers and artists are introverts, and cites a Harvard Business School team exercise where an introvert with the right answer did not speak, and no one asked him. [10:56] If you’re an introvert, find a way to cope so you don’t miss out. Cain, an introvert, pretends to be an extrovert, but found she needed little restorative niches during the day, to do something she enjoys. Marc has a client who takes breaks between meetings to knit. Another brings a book. Another brings a camera. [11:46] A top-level sales rep, married to another top-level sales rep both act like extroverts, but the wife is an introvert. After a conference, she gets room service, while the husband goes out to a group dinner. There are a lot of introverts in extroverts’ clothing. After a social situation, an introvert needs a break, to recharge. [12:38] A giant factor in being happy in a career is figuring out what makes your personal operating system work best. Marc talks about women who are ‘stealth competitors,’ who seem affable, but who are angry that they are not rewarded with recognition and raises for hard work. They ask for very little, and that’s what they get. [14:17] Highly organized people succeed in their fields by prioritizing tasks and focusing their attention and energy where it’s most effective. They are not intimidated by a large workload, as long as they get to decide how to do it. A micromanaging boss will not help them. Some people are uncomfortable with autonomy and need more direction. [15:19] Some people function beautifully with a lot of distractions and switch easily from one task to the next. Others need stretches of uninterrupted work time to accomplish their best results. Being interrupted all the time shatters their thoughts and leaves them frustrated. [16:00] Spend time considering how you work best. It can make all the difference in the world, in terms of job satisfaction and performance. Marc took a trip to Australia to teach a four-day sales class. At the end of the day, some of the class wanted to take him out for drinks. Marc chose a quiet dinner with a few close friends, and watched TV, instead. [16:35] The Birkman taught one of Marc’s clients she was happier with a desk near a window, and plants. Another found she was upset when others with less expertise commented on her part of a project. She learned to handle it gracefully. [17:08] It took Marc months to internalize what he learned in his Birkman report, with the help of his advisor. He still goes back to review the report, and is still learning about himself. He also learned he has an unusual competency for reading a Birkman report. Marc talks about traits that he has learned go together in various personalities. [18:12] Marc has gotten other tools from client Birkman reports, to help them understand their needs, from process thinkers who thought they were creative, to creatives who thought they were process thinkers. Understanding yourself leads to better decisions and outcomes. What could an assessment tell you, to set you right? [20:10] Action Steps: Take a career assessment test, such as the Birkman, to uncover rules and motivators you didn’t even know you had. Contact Marc to schedule an assessment. [20:40] The Birkman is a very complicated assessment, which is why it is not often discussed in the career space. It is used more often in the C-suite. Marc explains how he uses it with his clients. Marc will give you a 20% discount on the Birkman assessment if you mention you heard about it on this podcast episode. This episode is about being able to accept love. Today’s caller, Samantha is in a new loving relationship but has anxiety about it which is causing her to push her partner away. Ultimately, she fears she will sabotage the relationship. [For show notes go here: Christinehassler.com/episode91] When we lack self-love and acceptance we doubt our own lovability. When what we really want is coming to us we get scared and push it away, because we doubt our own lovability. When we doubt our own lovability it makes us do some sabotaging things when it comes to relationships. I gave Samantha some practical behavioral shifts, because awareness alone does not create change. If we think our past is part of who we are, we will never be truly free of it. We need to get the point where we realize the past is the past. It happened but it doesn’t have to be who we are. Many times when we have a difficult experience in our past, we hold on to it because having it gets us pity, love, compassion, and attention from others. On an unconscious level, we hang on to it because we think it is how we can get compassion and be connected to people. When we hold on to our story too much, it gets us in a trap of consistently attempting to heal the past, rather than make the behavioral choices that create what we want in the present and for the future. Eventually, you have to drop the story. You’ll notice I used a tough-love approach when coaching Samantha. To understand why I did it and the profound shifts that can occur because of it, check out my Coaches Corner — Tough Love and People who Have Helped Me in Profound Ways. In last week’s Coaches Corner, I interviewed my friend Amanda Steinberg, author of Worth It. The episode is about embracing your relationship with money. And, don’t miss this week’s Coaches Corner with thought leader Danielle Laporte. Consider/Ask Yourself: ● Do you want love, especially in the form of a romantic relationship, but it scares you? ● Are you in a romantic relationship now, and engaging in sabotaging behavior? ● Have you talked about your past and your story, but things aren’t shifting for you? Is the anxiety you feel about being in a relationship still there? ● Are you willing to get out of your comfort zone to break some patterns? Even if it’s scary? Samantha’s Question: Samantha would like to know how to be free of the fear and anxiety she is feeling in her new relationship. Samantha’s Key Insights and Ahas: ● She’s afraid of being hurt. ● She puts up a wall and shuts down when speaking with her new partner. ● She is trying to protect herself. ● She still identifies with her story. ● She is giving the people from her past too much power in her current life. How to Get Over It and On With It: ● She needs to go back and deal with her past. ● To move to the next phase she needs to change her behavior. ● She should do release writing when instead of zoning out. ● She needs to understand she is not alone. ● She needs to do the opposite of her current conditioned response. Action Steps: ● Take a look at your old story about love; write it out. What are you still carrying around from your past, you keep playing out? Make a list of the things you think are protecting you. ● It’s time to break patterns and shift your behaviors. You have to lean in and get a little uncomfortable, if you want change to happen. It might take six months to even up to a year for you to get your period back.Action Steps:Take a look at your diet overall and create that clean, healthy foundation in your diet. Are you getting in enough healthy fats? Are you getting in a variety of fruits and vegetables?
