Episode 419 - Dark Nights & Derry Days Halloween is over, and just like every other year, we've got a wicked hangover, so the decorations are staying up for one more week. Normally we could handle it, even if we were a bit under the weather, but this year's been a bit of a challenge. Every time we go to take down our scarecrow, he's running off to pick flowers or scaring the mail man, and we have no idea where our killer clown is. We know he's around here somewhere. We haven't seen him in awhile, but we're sure he's going to show up in the next few weeks. Until then, we're grabbing a beer, and going back to bed. Chilling Tales for Dark Nights: A Horror Anthology and Scary Stories Series Podcast
In the quiet woods of Ohio, a summer camp's final weekend of the season takes a dark turn when an innocent campfire story begins to feel far too real. Host Steve Taylor invites you to revisit one of the most haunting tales from the Chilling Tales for Dark Nights archives — a grim reminder that not all monsters hide under beds, and not every ghost story ends with a ghost. Featuring the late Jeffrey Ebright's unforgettable classic “Home,” performed by Otis Jiry, Mr. Creepypasta, and Rebecca Peason, with music and sound design by Jeff Clement, this episode is a journey into the heart of human darkness — where laughter fades, legends breathe, and safety is just another illusion. A Personal Journey of Overcoming Life's Challenges - Dark Nights for Brighter Days by Simone Tuyell WhiteDark Nights for Brighter Days came to exist because of my life experience, different tests and trials, experiencing mental illness, and setbacks. It's about my Christian journey and different things I had to encounter, how my faith was tried, and how I overcame many obstacles. There were times I experienced some dark nights, where I was isolated in the hospital and people stereotyped me and I felt my rights of freedom was taken away and I felt all alone. During that time of my life, I learned that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. That's when the brighter days come. And when I get restored, replenished, renewed, and strengthened, I am educated that recovery is every day and that God is a healer, and he will restore your mind.Simone White is dedicated to God and her family. She is a wife and mom who loves her family. The reason why she is so dedicated to her family is because she came from a broken family. She loves to give, whether it is money, food, time, or whatever God leads her to do. She is a loving person, and she does not mind helping anyone. She loves to cook and learn new recipes, and she loves her church family and doing fellowship with them. She has been a certified licensed nurse assistant for fifteen years. When she was working as a nurse, she loved working with the elderly. Now, she is a stay-at- home mom and wife. Her greatest interest is writing poems. She hopes one day to be a bestseller and to reach a loss. She is married to a great man of God whom she loves more than words can explain. He is the best thing that has ever happened to her, her soul mate. Now he is a minister, and she remembers saying to herself that she does not want anyone in the ministry, but God had greater plans, and she is honored to be his wife and to be working together in the ministry. She loves to watch family movies and comedy movies because she loves a good laugh. She loves listening to music and playing board games, traveling, spending time with family, shopping, and having a good time.AMAZONwww.KingPagesPress.com http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/103025kpp1.mp3

Some homes are built to shelter us. Others are built to hide what we can't bear to face. In this week's chilling installment, host Steve Taylor invites you to step across the threshold of a house where every wall has a secret — and every secret has a body. Behind the façade of ordinary suburbia lies a legacy of obsession, guilt, and something far older and darker than madness itself. From the haunted imagination of Quincy Lee, “The Children in My House's Walls” unearths the blueprints of inherited evil — the kind that can't be demolished, only passed down. "The Children in My House's Walls" by Quincy Lee – Sadie always thought her father was a quiet, kind man — a devoted architect who loved her more than anything in the world. But when police uncover human remains sealed behind the walls of their family home, her entire childhood is thrown into question. Through harrowing memories and an unflinching confession, Sadie begins to piece together the truth about the disappearances that haunted her neighborhood — and the dark inheritance running through her bloodline. A haunting descent into madness, grief, and the fine line between psychosis and possession, this story exposes the horrors that can fester beneath the surface of love and family. Only 19% of U.S. adults say they want “scary vibes” this Halloween—while 30% plan to wear multiple costumes and 70% say organized events are steady or increasing. Philip and Scott unpack the annual HalloweenCostumes.com survey and why it matters: the demand for cute, funny, and cosplay-style experiences is growing faster than gore, audiences are starting to plan earlier, and AI is already a factor in how people search for inspiration. They also discuss how rising competition and budget-conscious consumers may shape event calendars, citing Six Flags Magic Mountain and Knott's Scary Farm cutting weeknights while Hersheypark's Dark Nights leans on bundled value and high-quality houses. The big question: with more families and casual fans in the market, can “giggles” and “cute” Halloween now generate more growth than scares? Listen to weekly BONUS episodes on our Patreon.

Similarly, the New York Times column By the Book (Jen called it Get Booked, sorry for any confusion!) has a rotating list of questions, but some are very common. If you are interested in reading some of these columns, check out By The Book: Writers on Literature and the Literary Life, published in 2015. The books on Sarah's nightstand were: The Second Coming by Carter Sherman, It's a Love Story by Annabel Monaghan, Can't Get Enough by Kennedy Ryan, and Full Bloom by Francesca Serritella.
