The ONLY English language Copa Libertadores podcast brought to you by the broadcasters calling the games. Each week David and Oliver look at all all the action and talking points from South America's greatest club competition.
Palmeiras 2-1 Flamengo. Dave and Ollie reflected on Palmeiras's victory over Flamengo, to secure back-to-back titles. Deyverson's goal, Deyverson's dive, Pereira's career-defining error, Gallardo (potentially) in for Gaucho and plenty more besides.
The Libertadores final is here after a long long wait since the semi-final. Over 14 games have been played by both Palmeiras and Flamengo since then but finally the one that really matters is here. Another all Brazil final, the two most recent champions meet to decide who is the strongest side in South America.......so let the games begin [after Dave and Ollie have previewed the final]
David and Ollie look back at the Libertadores semi-final second legs, rue not putting their mortgages on the two finalists and talk briefly about the road ahead. Renato Gaucho hits his record setting 50 win mark as a manager on the road to Gloria Eterna, while the Green Giant gets the chance to defend their crown. South American football never sounded so good!
Dave and Ollie reflected on the 1st legs of the two CONMEBOL Libertadores semi-finals. There was a tactical breakdown of Palmeiras 0-0 Atletico Mineiro, we discussed Hulk's penalty, the Green Giant's poor form and could Diego Costa's injury be a blessing in disguise… Flamengo have a two-goal lead leaving Barcelona needing a minor miracle, in Guayaquil.

Do the Ecuadorian's have a chance against the 2019 champions? Will Palmeiras get a chance to defend their Libertadores title. The biggest football competition in South America returns this week.
The semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores are set and there's plenty of football to talk from the second legs of the final eight. South America's most sizzling soccer tournament get the breakdown once again from Dave and Ollie as they look back at all the key talking points from the last round of games.

Enjoy!
The Round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores finished with a fight and a flurry as Boca Juniors threw fists after their loss to Atl. Miniero in Brazil as South American football lived up to its stereotypes in the worst way. Once the tear gas had cleared the other Brazilian sides of Flamengo, Palmeiras and Sao Paulo toppled all in front of them to leave jsut on club from Argentina remaining in the competition [River Plate], while Ecuador's footballing success lies with only with Barcelona going into Quarterfinals. Seven of the Eight games ties were wrapped up and Dave and Ollie talk about them all on the only show covering the grandest soccer tournament in South America.
The Copa Libertadores kicked off its knockout stage this week and South America's premier club tournament didn't quite erupt into action. Maybe the Copa America has drained the legs, maybe in Brazil they're just playing too much football [is that possible?] or maybe we just had a quiet week. Either way, Dave and Ollie talk about all the action from the week just gone as the elite on the continent look to book a place in the final eight of the competition.
Italy vs England & Argentina vs Brazil? Naaaah... Ollie and Dave sidestepped the two big weekend blockbusters to focus on all things CONMEBOL Libertadores. We previewed the R16 1st leg clashes, Borre's departure, the favourites, the underdogs and the possibility of a Boca/River quarter-final. Finally the big question...how on EARTH are red hot Palmeiras 6/1 to lift the trophy? (Ollie was dialling in from a far flung Eastern European work location with patchy wifi, so forgive the odd second or two of us chatting over each other)
Ollie and Dave sit down to look ahead to the Copa America that starts this weekend but, as you'd expect, there's a Copa Libertadores twist as they run through the squads of Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and the rest to see which players playing in the Libertadores could make a impact in the tournament. So will the boys from Boca [not many of them], River, Palmeiras, Flamengo etc provide some samba soccer in Brazil this summer, or will some see themselves playing flat football? Hear all the discussion here.
The last 16 draws have been made! In the Libertadores; Can Cuca oust Boca again? And are we heading for a Flamengo vs Palmeiras final? The Sudamericana produced a draw to saviour with Nacional & Peñarol facing off on the continental stage....the biggest rivalry in Uruguayan football. Not to mention LDU Quito vs Gremio and a host of other crackers. Ties to be played in July. Plenty more WW pods between now & then.
With the group stages wrapped up, the line-up for the last 16 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores is now complete. There was drama in Paraguay as Olimpia scored six to progress, River got a little lucky & the Brazilians continued to batter everyone. We discussed our player/coach of the group stages and is 6/1 for Palmeiras to defend the trophy the best bet of 2021...
Matchday five from the Group Stage is in the books but rather than look back at Gremio's big win against Aragua or Peñarol fumbling their chance to lock up top spot in their group, Dave and Ollie look ahead to the final group games and ask who is going through as almost every game this coming week could play a role in deciding who makes it to the knockout stages.
We discussed the covid chaos which caused four-time champions and Libertadores royalty River Plate to play midfielder Enzo Perez in between the sticks vs Santa Fe. Why haven't Boca signed a striker? What was Willian Arao thinking? And will Wilson ever get to have a lengthy chat and a few cans with Miguel Angel Ramirez? Oh, and Deportivo Táchira netted seven (7).
South America sees its soccer start to sizzle less with continental flare, but grit and tension takes over as the Libertadores Group Stage gets serious. Boca Juniors are beaten by Santos, Sao Paulo are suffocated by Rentistas and even the all powerful Palmeiras are prevented from banging the goals in. As the football gets nervy, the big guns look to protect their group standings, while the lesser sides see a path to Gloria Eterna. Ollie and Dave break down all the action from week four go the groups on the podcast
The setting for the Copa Sudamericana is set as the Centenario in Montevideo is chosen as the host venue for the final of this year's tournament. But can Peñarol maintain their near perfect start to the competition and play on home soil in November for the crown? South American football's sister competition is picking up but there is so much left to play for in the group stage and with so many sides still in with a shout of the knockout stages, the soccer is set to satisfy any appetite. Ollie and Dave dive into the key stories in the Copa Sudamericana this week [including a merry dive into Argentinian flops San Lorenzo]

The Copa Sudamericana's inaugural Group Stage kicked off this week and Ollie and Dave bring you the best of the action from the Libertadores' sister competition. Giants like Uruguay's Peñarol and Argentina's Independiente have started brightly but the big boys from Brazil, Corinthians, have been sluggish to get going. Only the top side in each group qualifies for the knockout stages so a fast start could be imperative. All the football from South America's most exciting tournament is discussed.
The group stages of the 2021 Copa Libertadores are up and running, with plenty of drama & talking points on Matchday 1. 2020 champions Palmeiras and 2019 champions Flamengo both needed late goals away from home to secure victory.
