‘Older James: I remember that winter because it had brought the heaviest snow that I had ever seen. Snow had fallen steadily all night long. And in the morning, I woke in a room filled with light and silence. The whole world seemed to be held in a dream-like stillness. It was a magical day... [brief pause]Older James: ...and it was on that day I made the snowman.'The Snowman'Harry Burns: I came here tonight because when you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.'When Harry Met SallyWe are back! What if HBO knocked on your door and asked to do a documentary of you? Would it change your life? Make you rich? Sammy Hawkins tells us in our most fascinating interview yet. We talk about the 2008 documentary "Dirty Driving", which is one out of our favorite movies, as it captures the American spirit on many levels. It also might be the most quotable and memorable movies you will ever watch! Enjoy and be sure to watch the film.

Hey everybody! Y'see how Batman's in the title? Well guess what we weren't actually fixing a movie with Batman in it, (even though they need our help badly,) we're actually fixing the bad, unfinished The Snowman, starring Michael Fassbender. We just decided to fix it into a movie franchise for DC about all their cool cold villain folks! So we started off our pitch with Batman v. Snowman: Dawn of Just Ice, starring Paapa Essiedu, Quvenzhane Wallis, Liam Neeson, and Kurt Russell. Also, we fixed the trailers for Death Race 4, Samson, and Alpha.
Is THE SNOWMAN (starring Michael Fassbender & Rebecca Ferguson) as bad as critics are making it out to be? We put it through our fancy new rating system to find out. Synopsis: "For Detective Harry Hole, the death of a young woman during the first snowfall of winter feels like anything but a routine homicide. His investigation leads him to "The Snowman Killer," an elusive sociopath who continuously taunts Hole with cat-and-mouse games. As the vicious murders continue, Harry teams up with a brilliant recruit to try and lure the madman out of the shadows before he can strike again." (The only thing true about the synopsis is the detective's name, which isn't ideal.) -- Follow us on Twitter/Instagram: @ListenToBrunch Play Draft Kings using promo code: BRUNCH

Joe reviews the movie 'The Snowman'
It's high time we had a bit of Nordic Noir on this show, so it's an absolute pleasure to welcome rising Swedish star Tomas Alfredson to Soundtracking. Tomas made his name with Let The Right One In - which was scored by Johan Söderqvist, won numerous awards and was described by legendary critic Roger Ebert as the 'best modern Vampire movie'. He then took charge of the adaptation of John Le Carre's classic novel Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, for which he employed the services of Spanish composer Alberto Iglesias. Now he brings us another project based on a book in the shape of The Snowman, Jo Nesbo's dark, disturbing and thrilling international bestseller. Starring Michael Fassbender, Rebeccca Ferguson and Charlotte Gainsbourg. the film is scored by the ever reliable Marco Beltrami. Since the score is not commercially available yet, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our friends at Back Lot Music for sending us all the cues in advance. You can get hold of them yourself in a week or so, but meantime you'll hear plenty of examples as Tomas deconstructs Marco's work in fascinating detail ...
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! A pleasure to have you on board. Welcome thricely to listeners long term (Team 3W) and new skool, consider yourselves all tripley welcomed. So let's crack this one open eh? A blockbuster of an episode this week, as Pip sits down for a face to face chat with pure acting royalty Michael Fassbender! Far from the a short 3 minute press-junket soundbite interview, Pip has some quality real life facetime with Michael, who is (at the time of this podcast release) out there grinding on the promo for his new film 'The Snowman', directed by Tomas Alfredson and adapted from the novel by Jo Nesbø. A wonderful and warm chat, as we discover what Michael has been doing in the past year (racing Ferraris and surfing), but also get deep into the whole business - how he was born in Germany and was subsequently moved to Ireland at 2, his love of travel and how the acting profession broadens that experience hugely, how his career path could have branched off into an entirely alternate universe, and all manner of satisfying, filling movie gossip and insider knowledge. Safe to say then that this episode is pure Distraction Pieces goodness for your soul and being. Get involved, and if you feel it, get OTHERS involved too! On Profile this week we explore the life and career of one of the world's best loved children's illustrators. Over the last half century - much to his horror - Raymond Briggs has become a part of Christmas. Two books about a grumpy Father Christmas have become bestsellers. The film adaptation of his 1978 picture book 'The Snowman' has been shown on TV every Christmas for the past three decades. And now, this Christmas, the BBC is screening 'Ethel And Ernest' - a new film of Briggs' 1998 book about his parents. Mark Coles talks to Raymond Briggs' family and friends to find out what his books are really about. Producer: Smita Patel Researcher Sarah Shebbeare Editor: Richard Knight.
RHLSTP #34: Adam Buxton - You Don't Bring Me Flowers Anymore. Rich is back for an unprecedented 5th series of this stupid podcast, worried that he might have the same effect on this week's guest as he did with Stephen Merchant. But it's unlikely as it's a welcome return for the man with the pink bicycle, Adam Buxton. What is the ethical age for a dog to be before you have sex with it? How much does the cartoon 'The Snowman' inform us about the career of David Bowie? Are we ready to consider the mortality of our fathers? Plus a (prearranged?) call from Buxton junior.SUPPORT THE SHOW!Check out our website and become a badger and see extra content http://rhlstp.co.ukSee details of the RHLSTP tour dates http://richardherring.com/gigsBuy DVDs and Books at http://gofasterstripe.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
