Jonathan Berte (1978) studeerde toegepaste fysica aan de Universiteit Gent, en specialiseerde in neuroscience in Zurich. Hij is oprichter en CEO van Robovision, een bedrijf dat toepassingen voor artificiële intelligentie ontwikkelt, en in de spits zit van de technologische ontwikkelingen van vandaag. Ik trok naar het Technologiepark in Zwijnaarde bij Gent, waar een massa onderzoekscentra van bedrijven gevestigd is, en tussen het BASF Innovation Center, Ablynx, Innogenetics en centra voor medische biotechnologie staat ook het gebouw waarin Robovision gevestigd is. Jonathan Berte deed zelf de deur voor me open. Ik zag meteen een inkomhal die vol stond met kartonnen dozen, met hier en daar een robotarm erop. Ons gesprek ging over het boek van zijn vader dat hem deed beslissen om ingenieur te worden. Over het boek dat hem helpt de lange termijn te zien als bedrijfsleider. Over wat hij het moeilijkste vind als CEO en wat hij zichzelf in zijn functie heeft moeten leren. Het gaat over filosofie, over ons brein en ons zelfbewustzijn, over Bach en robots. Tony has over 20 years of biotech R&D experience in building out drug pipelines, and he has played a key role in developing and successfully advancing 3 new drug modalities towards the market (RNAi, modified mRNA, single domain antibodies) and in helping build several multi-billion dollar companies from start-up stage. Prior to joining Evox, Tony was CSO of Ablynx, where he led the company’s non-clinical R&D operations, including Discovery, Pharmacology, CMC, and Clinical Trial Drug Supply, and played a key role in the approval of the 1st single domain antibody drug. Prior to Ablynx, Tony was founding CSO at Moderna Therapeutics pioneering modified mRNA as a new therapeutic modality, CSO of antibody-based immuno-oncology company Tolerx Inc, and VP Research at Alnylam where he helped develop RNAi as a new therapeutic modality, including overseeing the development of the now 1st approved RNAi delivery system. Also, Tony has been Principal Investigator on over $80m in grants, has over 60 scientific publications, and is an inventor on over 90 issued U.S. patents. He also serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards of MiNA Therapeutics and LIfT BioSciences. Tony earned his Ph.D. in Immunology from Harvard University.

 Teleselskabet TDC opkøber tv-giganten, MTG, som bl.a. ejer Viasat og TV3, i en handel til 15 mia. kr. En ny skandinavisk magtfaktor er født i underholdningsindustrien. Men investorer dumper ideen med et brag og det er nemt at finde hår i suppen. TDC har tabt 75.000 kunder i løbet af det seneste år. MTG kæmper med en stagnerende tv-forretning truet af streamningtjenester som Netflix og HBO. Er det her et opkøb efter logikken: Minus gange minus giver plus?Det er en forpjusket ledelse, der står tilbage i Novo Nordisk. Torsdag leverede man et halvskuffende regnskab. I tirsdags kuldsejlede et opkøbsforsøg på det belgiske biotekselskab, Ablynx, og man blev overhalet af ærkerivalen Sanofi. Novo tjener styrtende med penge, men det urørlige image er falmet, lyder konklusionen i studiet.Kan man have en work life balance på jobbet, når chefen kalder en 60 timers arbejdsuge for kort? Nej, selvfølgelig ikke, skriver kommentator Anders Heide Mortensens i sin seneste kommentar, der er blevet læst over 15.000 gange. Men det er præcis, hvad Nordeas nye chef for corporate finance siger: »Når folk i denne her branche føler, at de arbejder for meget, så er det, fordi de arbejder 100 timer om ugen. Når de føler, at de ikke har arbejdet så meget, har de arbejdet 60.«
