Listen to a teen-led conversation with DonChristian Jones, about building spaces for belonging and memory. When artist DonChristian Jones started at MoMA as the inaugural Adobe Creative Resident, they created a vision for working with young people to share their stories about what art and community meant to them. In the summer of 2024, DonChristian—through their Residency at MoMA, along with the nonprofit they run, Public Assistant—and the Lower Eastside Girls Club collaborated on Frequency Gardens, a summer program and radio show. Over the course of a month, eight teens learned how to record and edit audio, conduct live interviews, and tell their stories through art. Four of the teen participants interviewed DonChristian about their collaborative process and what it was like to hear themselves as part of the exhibition. Giants, this is episode #74! We’ve got a good friend of mine on the show. He and I live halfway across the world from each other. He’s based in New York, I’m in Sydney. We did this interview in LA. I’d describe him as an incredibly dedicated, super talented young gun. Currently aged 25, he’s already been a Creative for Gary Vaynerchuk, for Gary’s personal brand and numerous VaynerMedia projects. He worked side-by-side with Gary for over 3 years – specialising in videography, editing, art direction and design. This year however, he received acceptance into the highly sought-after 2019 Adobe Creative Residency program. It’s an enormously rare opportunity. Allowing him to spend a year, full-time on a personal creative project, while sharing his experience and process with the entire global creative community. We unpack his journey to date, which is a testament to the power of going all in on your passion. Including how he landed his dream job with Gary, his humble beginnings, and what he’s up to now. Some of the topics we spoke about include: The one item he can’t travel without Practical advice on having mentors around you like Gary Vee The tactics he practises to overcome imposter syndrome How the Adobe Creative Residency program defines creative success, and plenty more. So if you’re unsure where to take your career, or if you’re facing a creative block, then this is for you – as we uncover what it takes to go after your creative pursuits. I present to you … the always moving, hyper-curious, creative storyteller … Tyler Babin! Tyler Babin is a photographer, videographer & creative director based out of New York City. He’s currently a 2019-2020 Adobe Creative Resident where he’s paid by Adobe to, simply put, create. No clients, just creating. We recorded this episode in person during CreativeLive’s biggest conference of the year - Photoshop Week - where Tyler’s story came full circle. You’ll find out what led him to landing a spot as an Adobe Creative Resident and the ongoing evolution of Behind the Feed, his year-long documentary project pulling the curtain behind the reality of digital influencer culture. We learn why he quit his dream job working for VanyerMedia, where over 3 years earlier on his last day as an intern he’d talked his way into becoming a personal videographer for Gary Vanyerchuk in a 45-min taxi ride. We discuss how this journey all started when Tyler was 18 years old and flew across the country to be a student in Matthew Jordan Smith’s workshop at CreativeLive. This is We Are Photographers with Tyler Babin and this is his story. Follow Tyler Babin on tylerbabin.com, IG @babin, YouTube, TW @tyler_babin

In the first part of a two-part episode, we hear the story of Aundre Larrow, an incredibly talented photographer who was born in Jamaica, grew up in Florida and now lives in Brooklyn. Aundre discusses growing up as a Jamaican-American man, the complexities of being a part of multiple communities but struggling to find people with shared experiences and his projects as an Adobe Creative Resident.
Here I talk with Temi Coker about his interesting design style and how he had the opportunity to become an Adobe Creative Resident. And about how he's a crab fisherman. But not really.
