I knew there was something I really liked about Bielefeldt!  Turns out she's from IA and knows what it's like to save up your babysitting money to go get the latest music at MusicLand!  April has followed Duran Duran throughout her life and shared her love of the song "My Own Way." April remembers finding out about Duran Duran from her cool school-aged friends.  Then in college, her and her artsy friends would enjoy new music together.   Now April is a photographer in Las Vegas.  She has photographed many bands.  When the talent is exactly cooperating, she uses this song to give herself the confidence to run the shoot her way.  She also likes to use it to set the vibe of the photo shoot.  Maybe she plays in the background or maybe it's just running through her head to get herself in the right headspace! Christina Olson was the real-life woman who inspired artist Andrew Wyeth's painting “Christina's World.” It's considered a master work of American art that inspires a lot of feelings in people, myself included. In the novel “A Piece of the World,” author Christina Baker Kline tells a fictionalized version of the real-life relationship between artist and subject. It's an emotional and complex relationship and a totally compelling book. Joining me today is April Bielefeldt, is a Landscape Photographer and one half of the Travel Collective, where she creates videos, showcases boutique guides and tours and shares her knowledge of how to travel like she does. She has a deep love for the USA, particularly the Maine coast, where today's book is set, and she creates personal itineraries as well as leads small tours. In this episode of Flow Working The Entrepreneur's Podcast, I sat down and chatted with two award-winning photographers who both share a passion for capturing the fall foliage of New England's majestic woods. My guests April Bielefeldt and Jeff Foliage have a combined 50 years of experience in all things photography. They shared with me the challenges of being an artist and paying the bills, how following their passions keeps their souls fed, and that sometimes making money isn't the end goal for a business. April finds her passion is filled as she helps others with first-hand experience of the beauty she sees in New England's autumn foliage. She shared, "Yeah, I think it goes to that innate passion and growing up in the Midwest. We have the change of seasons and I ran into a lot of people in the photography groups I was in, in Los Angeles. People that like, never have ventured, you know, they've never gone to New England, they've never gone to Maine, they've never gone to Vermont. And thankfully, in a way, I think this time period that we're in right now, has turned the eye back onto what's right here within these great 50 states. So when people would see my photos, they almost felt like they were surreal." For Jeff, his passion is fueled by the colors themselves. He loves sharing, through his blogging, where others can find (or not find) their own personal experience of these colors. Jeff mused, "So up here [in New England], you know, maples are king, but the birch, the ash, the hickories, The Oaks, come on later. And all of these trees give us that palette that is hard to find across most of the country. But I like mixing it up. I have a thing I made up, C4SC color for the sake of color. And I'm my wife, you know, she's like, why are you stopping? That's just a tree. It's just some fall colors. And it's like it drove me nuts though because it's like such vibrancy in the colors. I had to capture it." So whether you're seeking a personal experience off the beaten path or one that's guided by a passionate tour guide both Jeff and April love to share their passions with others.
