Most content teams treat a finished report as a checkbox, when it should be the starting batter. In this episode of Content Amplified, Pat McParland, VP of Marketing at MetricStream, makes the case for getting back to basics and making every asset work harder. She walks through the ABCDE framework she learned at a former company (Audience, Behavior, Content, Design, Evaluation) and why so many teams skip straight to the design, the video or the ebook, before they have settled who they are talking to and what they want to say. Then she unveils her own Bisquick theory: messaging is the baking mix, and from one core asset like a survey or report you make the cookies, the cakes, the muffins, the infographic, the webinar, the videos, the live event. Pat calls AI the easy bake oven that finally brings the theory to life, and she leans on Claude to turn one asset into many formats. She also offers a caution worth keeping: AI can run a stinky process more efficiently, but it is still a stinky process, so go back to basics first. She closes with her Three Rocks principle for staying focused.About PatPat McParland is a lifetime B2B marketer with more than 30 years of experience, almost all of it in business information and technology. She has worked at companies ranging from startups under 30 people to giants like Dun and Bradstreet, Dow Jones, and Honeywell, and is now VP of Marketing at MetricStream, a governance, risk, and compliance company. A self-described storyteller who started reading at four and writing books for her dad soon after, she believes the fundamentals of content have not changed in 35 years, even as the tools around them have. Content creation for musicians is loud, confusing, and honestly exhausting. One person says post more. Another says post less. One says follow trends. Another says never follow trends. So in this episode, we pulled 9 of our favorite videos about content for artists and broke down the real lesson behind each one.We talk about reposting old songs, batching content, getting over the fear of posting, using Trial Reels, creating emotional connection instead of “out now” posts, and doubling down when something finally works. After each lesson, we also give artists a simple homework assignment they can actually use this week.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━EPISODE HOMEWORK9 principles. 3 steps each. Send us Fan MailGetting booked can be harder than writing jokes and sometimes the most frustrating part is knowing your material works while the calendar stays empty. I'm honest about where I'm at right now: I haven't posted as much because I've had fewer updates, and the real issue is simple, I haven't forced enough opportunities. So I'm going back to basics and walking into open mics and local comedy clubs to remind people what I do and to get that stage-time hunger fed.We also get real about stand-up comedy pay rates and why so many offers feel upside down. If someone wants a high-level comedian but only wants to pay entry-level money, the math doesn't work, especially once you factor in driving, hotels, flights, and food. I share how I explain pricing up front without bitterness, and why protecting your rate is not ego, it's protecting the whole game from becoming “Mercedes results on a Honda budget.”Then we dig into the mindset that keeps me moving: forcing opportunities is a win-win. If you don't ask, you already have a no. If you ask and they say no, nothing changes. If you ask and they say yes, everything changes. I connect that idea to comedy, dating, sports, and self-promotion, and I explain my approach to joke writing right now: one-liners, short stories, fast tempo, and zero wasted words to match today's attention economy. If you're building a career in stand-up, creativity, or any craft that needs reps, come hang with me for a shot of urgency and strategy. A Kentucky naturist group is attempting to establish an informal nude recreation area at Doe Run Lake Park, despite explicit warnings from county officials that nudity there could lead to arrest. The effort highlights the near-total absence of legal naturist spaces in Kentucky and raises broader questions about how clothing-optional areas emerge, gain recognition, or collide with local law and public opinion.More at www dot planetnude dot co. This week is the week that determines what your business runs on for the next five months - and most founders will walk straight through it without knowing what they walked through. On Wednesday 6th May, Pluto stations retrograde at five degrees of Aquarius, ending the visible forward-moving phase that's been running since last October and beginning a five-month underground phase that runs to mid-October. What you commit to before Wednesday is what you're building on for the rest of Q2 and most of Q3. What you push externally after Wednesday will keep getting pulled inward, no matter how hard you try to move it. In this week's CEO Brief, we're walking through the architecture of the week day by day, including: The Tuesday move that determines whether the rest of the week holds (and the before-lunch deadline that protects it) Why Mars-Jupiter on Tuesday will make every new opportunity look like THE opportunity (and how to tell the difference between expansion and overreach) The Pluto station release on Wednesday - what to put down, what to send, what to close Bank Holiday Monday's containment move (ten minutes, fits around the kids, sets up the rest of the week) Departmental check-ins for Fire, Earth, Air, Water-— the specific trap each element will hit and the move that protects it The card pull for the week, and why what you commit to is probably already in your line of sight This is operational instruction for established female founders building businesses that hold - not horoscopes, not insights, an operating brief. We sat down with two real-life lifesavers whose jobs kick in when everyone else is panicking. Dr Thandeka Ngcana, South Africa’s first Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist, pediatrician, medical oncologist at Chris Hani Baragwanath, former helicopter emergency services doctor — and a mom of two — shared critical medical advice every parent and adult should know. Alongside her was Kyle Nesbitt, Chairman of Search and Rescue South Africa (SARZA) Gauteng, a seasoned volunteer with over a decade of frontline rescue experience, from flood operations in Limpopo to disaster relief missions in Mozambique. Together, they broke down what to actually do in real emergencies: cars trapped in floodwater, choking, head injuries, drowning, snake bites, kids swallowing button batteries, and getting lost while hiking. They busted dangerous myths, explained the biggest mistakes people make under pressure, and highlighted the one simple life-saving skill everyone should learn. It’s practical, calm, expert advice that could one day make the difference between panic… and survival. Hang out with Anele and The Club on 947 every weekday morning. In today's episode, Cheryl revisits one of the most important stress-related topics in the challenge: money. Since financial strain is a major source of anxiety for many people, today's habit focuses on taking one small action that supports your future financial wellbeing. Cheryl explains why progress on financial goals is linked to better overall health and stability, and she shares simple, realistic examples you can complete in 10 minutes or less. The goal is not to build a full budget or overhaul your finances. It is to make a quick “future you” move that reduces stress, creates more control, and supports your ability to stay consistent with other healthy habits. Takeaways Money is a common source of stress, and reducing financial strain can improve overall wellbeing Small progress toward financial goals can help you feel calmer, more stable, and more in control The habit is about long-term support, not daily spending perfection Financial stability can make other healthy habits easier to maintain because stress is lower Automation is one of the easiest ways to reduce mental load and improve consistency Even small savings can matter, especially over time with compounding interest If money habits feel overwhelming, the best approach is a tiny step and then pause Disclaimer: Links may contain affiliate links, which means we may get paid a commission at no additional cost to you if you purchase through this page. Today we’re back to money. We did this one habit earlier in the challenge and we’re coming back to it again because as we learned from the previous one, if you read any of the research or just listened to the podcast from before, that money is ⁓ quite a source of stress for a lot of people and this is no surprise, right? But it does show in the literature that making progress, making financial goals and taking some of your financial stress away actually creates greater wellbeing. It just helps you feel more settled, less anxious, less stressed. So addressing money things now and again is a good idea. Cheryl McColgan (00:45)obviously I think we should be considering what we’re consuming, what we’re spending money on, that sort of thing every single day. But when you’re doing these future plans or kind of more extended timeframe things for savings, that’s maybe not something that you’re thinking every single day. So I didn’t mean to say that, obviously you shouldn’t be focusing on spending on a daily basis, but these kind of larger goals might be something that’s more a once a week, once a month sort of thing. So back to today’s habit is to make one future you money move today. And so this is going to be something that lowers financial strain and just gives you stronger financial capability in the future. And that’s all associated with better health and wellbeing. It reduces stress, as I said before, creates stability and having stability and having control of your finances supports other healthy habits as well. It gives you the finances and the ability to invest. in other areas of your health if you need to. And it also having less stress in your life makes all the behaviors easier to repeat when you don’t have stress cropping up. So to give you some examples to make this easier, do something like set up an auto-save program at your bank or on an app. So taking $10, $20, $1,000, whatever works in your particular financial situation to automatically save each month. Automated bill. have a bill or two or all of them that are scheduled to pay every single month so that it takes the stress off of you remembering to send a check or to submit your payment online. Maybe increase your retirement contribution by 1%. This is an area that I’m really interested in because I have always been involved in some degree and both my partners have been in finance and I actually ended up doing a speech about it in college. But the compounding Interest is such a huge thing the earlier you start saving even if it’s a small amount and then I say earlier I’m like the younger that you start saying your that money just has more time to double and double and double again over time With the you know compounding interest and if you start saving much later in life It doesn’t have as much time to grow now That’s not to say you still can’t start because like every all of this you can start any time But the younger that you start saving the better it’ll just set you up much more in the future for having some again, gains without having to do anything else. The once in the money is in there and it’s growing with interest, it just keeps building on itself. If the automation seems too much, maybe it’s something like setting yourself a calendar reminder or writing a small financial plan, maybe for the next week or the next month. So we’re doing it in 10 minutes or less. We’re not making a spreadsheet here or creating an empire of things. Of course, if you want to do that at some point, I think that’s awesome. But this is just meant to be, again, a small, doable habit that doesn’t turn you off from it. So setting up an automation, something quick like that, or setting aside more money to save is a good choice here. So if it’s triggering too much stress, just do a small step, something in relation to it, and then stop. And you can always come back to this at a later date or give it some further thought when it comes for the weekly reset and reflect. As always, the studies are linked. in the email that you received and in your tracker. And if you haven’t joined yet, that link to join is heelnourishgrow.com slash habits, you can join anytime. It’s never too late. That’s probably the theme of this series so far. But hope you enjoyed this and I will see you again tomorrow.

When “Normal” Doesn't Work: Rethinking Data and the Role of the SOC AnalystMonzy Merza, Co-Founder and CEO of Crogl, joins Sean Martin and Marco Ciappelli to discuss how cybersecurity teams can finally move beyond the treadmill of normalization, alert fatigue, and brittle playbooks that keep analysts from doing what they signed up to do—find and stop bad actors.Merza draws from his experience across research, security operations, and leadership roles at Splunk, Databricks, and one of the world's largest banks. His message is clear: the industry's long-standing approach of forcing all data into one format before analysis has reached its limit. Organizations are spending millions trying to normalize data that constantly changes, and analysts are paying the price—buried under alerts they can't meaningfully investigate. The conversation highlights the human side of this issue. Analysts often join the field to protect their organizations, but instead find themselves working on repetitive tickets with little context, limited feedback loops, and an impossible expectation to know everything—from email headers to endpoint logs. They are firefighters answering endless 911 calls, most of which turn out to be false alarms.Crogl's approach replaces that normalization-first mindset with an analyst-first model. By operating directly on data where it lives—without requiring migration or schema alignment—it allows every analyst to investigate deeper, faster, and more consistently. Each action taken by one team member becomes shared knowledge for the next, creating an adaptive, AI-driven system that evolves with the organization. For CISOs, this means measurable consistency, auditability, and trust in outcomes. For analysts, it means rediscovering purpose—focusing on meaningful investigations instead of administrative noise. The result is a more capable, connected SOC where AI augments human reasoning rather than replacing it. As Merza puts it, the new normal is no normalization—just real work, done better.Watch the full interview and product demo: https://youtu.be/7C4zOvF9sdkLearn more about CROGL: https://itspm.ag/crogl-103909Note: This story contains promotional content. LIBERTY Sessions with Nada Jones | Celebrating women who do & inspiring women who can |
Irene Chen is the co-founder of Parker Thatch, a California-based functional luxury accessories brand. With a background in fashion product development, including roles at Donna Karan and Calvin Klein, Irene brings decades of industry experience to the brand she co-founded with her partner and husband, Matthew Grenby. Together, they have grown Parker Thatch from its origins as an e-stationery company in 2001 to a profitable, eight-figure business known for its stylish and functional handbags, like the Charlie carryall and the Mimi tote. A key moment in the brand's journey came in 2015 when handbag legend Kate Spade, a former customer-turned-mentor, encouraged the duo to focus on handbags and accessories—a decision that would propel the company's growth. Irene is passionate about building a brand that resonates with women across generations, offering functional luxury with customizable options that meet the needs of self-expression and modern life. Irene and Matt reside in the Bay Area with their two children, Parker and Thatcher. In today's episode, Nada talks with Irene about the original Parker Thatch handbag design, and the local dry cleaner that kick-started the brand we know today. Irene's enthusiasm is contagious and provides just the dose of energy you need to kick-start whatever's next for you. To find out more about Parker Thatch, check out their website.
