    Creating A Vision Board

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 9, 2022 29:02

E171:   In the past we've talked about how impactful and statistically proven it is that when we write things we intend to do they are more likely to happen on prior episodes. Why should your bucket list or long term visions be any different? A vision board is a great tool for anyone to just show visually what their intentions are to keep their eye the prize, stay top of mind, and help create regular action to move towards the things we want the most. On today's episode I talk about what they are, how they can be made in a number of ways, and where I think the ideal location of one is to help you go after the things you want to tackle before you are out of this world! A 0 bs talk on a self help principle I find very helpful to have around my office and think to.    Let us know what you think of this episode and hit me up @davewakeup on social or wakeupfromworkpodcast@gmail.com.    In This Episode We Cover What is a vision board?  Why use one?  What should be on a vision board? Where should it be located?  Writing down goals or putting them into a physical form make them more likely to succeed Make it how YOU want Ways to make a vision board visually appealing as a room piece and not noticeable right off the bat to others if you don't want to share yet Examples from my personal board    Quote's   “These are the things that I intentionally put time, energy, and money into to make them happen like 100%. This is a thing that's going to happen in the 5200 weeks I'm alive. “ - Host Dave Swillum   “ Have a bunch of images that represent things that are part of your vision in a way that is appealing, exciting, and in a place that you see frequently.” - Host Dave Swillum   Waking Up From Work Podcast Links    IG / Clubhouse / Twitter / HiHo Follow & DM Me! @davewakeup   Tik Tok @broadwingofficial   Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork   Email wakeupfromworkpodcast@gmail.com   Youtube Channel & Series https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber   For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com   Dave's Alternative band Band Broadwing  https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/broadwing/i-dnt-wnt-2-b-anyone

E147:   Do you feel like you truly invest in your creative or business? That's for you to answer but after all the hours, money, blood, sweat, and tears you better be investing in making your creative known. On todays episode I speak to some changes in my actions I've made to invest more in my own personal music to give it the chance I feel it deserves as well as some strategies and thought processes for some other pursuing their passions. It's not worth putting in all that effort to get to the 5 yard line and not getting the touch down (sorry for the bad sports reference) but for real. Today lets talk about getting past some self limiting beliefs behind NOT properly investing in our creative and some ways we can do it in any budget. Invest in your creative! No one else will until you do first.   In This Episode We Cover Invest in your art Invest in yourself Posting once on social then giving up Forming a budget for your creative Creating a marketing ramp for your launches You can make the best art and never have it seen or heard You aren't over posting Facebook/Instagram Ad's to drive algorithm acceptance for your launch How do we multiply ourselves? Creating Habit Driven Goals For Big Results & Positive Momentum: The How Not The What W/ Dave Swillum

E146:   Every year I tend to do another goal episode when the new year hits. I don't do it for the novelty but because I change my perspective, shift what works better for the year, or face new things that make me think different of what approach works best for me so I always like to share so you can form what works best for you too. As a very goal centric and action orientated person it can be really deflating for me when my goals aren't achievable, especially when I make them SMART goals and keep timelines for when they should be hitting. Now I am fine with not hitting my goals but this year was different for me. I am about extreme accountability and feel most things are within my control if I fail which gives me a sense of pride even when things don't work out for me and control on making my situations better. HOWEVER this year there have been supply chain issues, labor shortages, and inflation I had no ability to predict and paired it with the largest project I've ever undertaken so most of my plans are difficult for me to predict. This is what has led me to creating action driven or habit driven goals that move the needle verses end targets to achieve in time frames. I've found this is more motivating and still make the same if not more progress towards the same goals but with a new outlook.   In This Episode We Cover   New way to look at goals Going further than SMART goals How to create realistic goals to keep your momentum Habit driven goals vs. outcome driven Factors outside of our control in play with our personal goals with ultra accountability Action driven goals for moving the needle Written actions Keeping momentum and energy with accurate goals Goal categories to break down the most important things into habits   Quotes   “Sometimes you're setting goals you think are achievable but they're not and every time you try to readjust and you can't.” - Host Dave Swillum   “Those little things through the bad weeks will make you achieve your F'ing goals. They keep you so you are so god damn consistent on things that are moving towards it that would get lost if you didn't have those as your goals.” - Host Dave Swillum   Resources Noted In This Podcast Links   Atomic Habits https://amzn.to/3Gl1v3U     Waking Up From Work Podcast Links    IG / Tik Tok / Clubhouse / Twitter / HiHo Follow & DM Me! @davewakeup   Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw   Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork   Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/   Email wakeupfromworkpodcast@gmail.com   Youtube Channel & Series https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber   For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com   Dave's Indie Band Broadwing https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/broadwing/tennessee

Of course we all get these feelings but today I speak to some things I'm noticing from how social media has blown this feeling out more than we've ever experienced and it's happened so fast I don't think we understand it in full yet. E136:   Ever hear the story about the carpenter that doesn't work on their own house or mechanic that doesn't work on their own car? It happens with creatives too. I've worked on my own music for 8 to 10 years, a lot of which has been helpful for learning my trade with more experimental things in studio and crazy ideas and tricks. But, what I've learned from it is that I am much better as a musician and writer when I am only focusing on being that person in that moment. When I have a technical aspect coming in it doesn't always serve my art. SO, I've had to drop my ego, get out of my comfort zone and hire other people that do the same things as I do to work on projects with me because collaboration can be an amazing thing. I've noticed that many amazing songs if not all generally have other writers, producers, engineers, and collaborators involved with their success. When it comes to achieving the best possible results I'll always give new things a try. On this solo episode I deep dive into my experience through these phases and my findings. Let's talk about how important collaboration is for the creative community. We are built for it.   In This Episode We Cover   Working on the art you do for work for yourself Limitations on working on your own What blocks us from collaborating more? How money can change your passion How ego can play into your decisions right or wrong What happens to the creative when you can't step out of it? Being an artist first Benefits of collaborating with others Speeding up the feedback loop Making decisions Bringing diversity into the project   Quotes   “  If you don't take time to be creative for yourself, you will lose that drive and ambition. E134:   The “American Dream” has changed, our times have changed, and our capabilities have changed so why should our expectations and idea of retirement stay the same? I don't believe in the idea of traditional retirement anymore. The idea that we would work our entire lives notably our prime years of health doing things we hate with the hope that we can retire and do everything on our bucket list when it's more difficult or impossible makes no sense to me. With both the CEO's of Marriott the largest hospitality hotel group and Airbnb the largest gorilla warfare of hospitality and experiences with eyes on “workation” as their biggest growth I see a bright future for us all doing bucket list items and retiring now. Killing overhead, managing life creep, killing debt, and getting income from the things we love with mobile abilities to connect to a larger market of the world via the internet gives us the ability to retire younger and do everything we want. No more limiting ourselves based on what has “always been done”. Let's wake up from work and start living.     In This Episode We Cover   What does your retirement look like ? Managing financial risk Not feeling like yourself at a day job The gamble of living for retirement Different Ways To “Retire” How times have changed and what that means for our changes in abilities Peeling away life creep Kill your overhead People can retire younger with changes in expectations and planning What is retirement? Have you ever had some things you did as a kid that seem more a part of you now that you look back at the trait before you got to where you are? We often reveal little bread crumbs about who we are going to become through choices and ways to figure things when we are younger but it's not always obvious when we are making them at that point. What was your lemonade stand then and what is it now? I always stop at every lemonade stand, I want people to understand as early as possible they can create ways to make income and do what is enjoyable for them with hard work.   In This Episode We Cover Common traits of young entrepreneurs / creatives Why lemonade stands mean something more Raising children with entrepreneurial challenges Scarcity forms creation Investing what you have to make more Seeing young traits in ourselves when we are older Learning to create your own income Finding ways to make something you want happen   Quotes “You 100% at all times, no matter what you're doing have to stop for a lemonade stand, 100%.” - Host Dave Swillum   Waking Up From Work Podcast Links    IG / Tik Tok / Clubhouse / Twitter / HiHo Follow & DM Me! @davewakeup   Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw   Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork   Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/   Email wakeupfromworkpodcast@gmail.com   Youtube Channel & Series https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber   For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com   Dave's Indie Band Broadwing https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/broadwing/tennessee

E125:   Using your creative background to create a business that supports people is a great thing! Today we speak to Skye Marinda who is a Tarot Coach from D.C. Not sure what that is? I wasn't either because she made it with the tools and super powers she has. Coming from a background in art school and a love for Tarot reading she works with people in Tarot as a medium to gain confidence in themselves and work through their thoughts internally. She has given over 400 readings and 100 workshops worldwide. You don't have to know anything about Tarot readings to love this episode because I didn't know anything while interviewing! Great insight on creating a creative business drawing from social DM's, using your artistic background in new ways, running events in new spaces, and external judgement on your creative business. Let us know what you think of the conversation!   In This Episode We Cover Using tools for self reflection Making a niche Using your art background in new ways Going through different phases How much society values art Keeping arts strong Using spaces to run events for free Interacting with customers coming from social feeds Getting used to working with strangers as clients Seeing others do well Find your own voice The coaching model Parental pressure to have you get a “normal job”   Quotes “I truly believe that creative is just a different thing we make it out to be. That subjectiveness, that way of interpretation, a way to see a story and go through something is creativity to me.” - Host Dave Swillum “I feel like a lot of times people feel like you should be charging high prices for what you do, not that you shouldn't charge money but I definitely used that first year to see what's it like to do business with people on instagram and Tik Tok, and all over the place to get a feel for it.” - Skye Marinda   “Getting started is the hardest hurdle to get past.” - Skye Marinda   Resources Noted In This Podcast Episode   Mating In Captivating by Ester Perrel https://amzn.to/3yQw7qs   Skye's Links   IG @skye.mirinda.tarot   Skye's Website https://www.skyemarinda.com/     Waking Up From Work Podcast Links    IG / Tik Tok / Clubhouse / Twitter / HiHo Follow & DM Me! @davewakeup   Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw   Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork   Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/   Email wakeupfromworkpodcast@gmail.com   Youtube Channel & Series https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber   For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com   Dave's Indie Band Broadwing https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/broadwing/tennessee

E123:   Your relationship with money dictates your decision making process and your mood so it's important for any creative or business owner to manage. I've been unhealthy and healthy with my perspective on money in many different ways over my life transitions. When you don't have a lot sometimes it comes out of anger because you can't get what you need at the time, when you have more sometimes it comes from still not wanting to spend it and more importantly not spending it on the right things or things that fill your cup. On this episode we talk about some things to look out for that may be unhealthy ways of looking at what money is and it's purpose and talk through some ways to manage a better relationship with it. Money is an energy and a vehicle but nothing more. Everything else we develop in our world around it on our journey is something different. Let's start cultivating a great relationship on what money really boils down to so we can make the best decisions on our mission and get the biggest impact from life.     In This Episode We Cover Your relationship with money dictates your decision making process Money is energy Difference between broke and poor F U Money Decisions not based out of fear Stopping reactionary decision making Controlling natural human - animal instincts I tell me what I'm doing Frugality: Fighting how cheap I can be Buying things that don't matter sometimes Your “rich life”   Quotes   “Money is energy, money is a vehicle…….that's all.” - Host Dave Swillum “I'm giving energy up, so what am I getting that gives energy back to me? E121:   After working with Elizabeth as a client managing her podcast and creating original music for her I had to have her on the show to share some of the content I had been hearing. Elizabeth is a love coach and works with love, sex, and relationships on the west coast. One thing I've seen in our community here is the friction that pops up with peoples relationships as they start pursuing an alternative model of living and career path. Entrepreneurs as couples together both starting something up or one entrepreneur and one partner with a more standard living practice both have their own challenges. I wanted to share some of her wisdom so we can all focus on the things that truly matter while we pursue our purpose and our creative successfully. We speak through empathy and entitlement, human brain justification and problem seeking. Ownership and managing expectations inside the relationship. Elizabeth has created a six figure coaching business in Seattle helping people with what she loves, so she's here to help in business and in life as well.   In This Episode We Cover Love, sex, and relationships Relationship with time and money Compassion and empathy for yourself and others Deeper levels of love that we aren't aware of Empathy Humans can justify anything, we are programmed to Taking responsibility for your own actions and understanding why Managing a relationship as an entrepreneur Managing a relationship as two entrepreneurs Setting aside sacred time for the things you really love Keeping new relationship energy Agreements with your partner Over communicate!
