On February 27, 2023, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band played a sold out show at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. We take a break from our regular episode format to talk about that show in depth! Standard episodes return next week!

We put author, actor, and E Streeter Stevie Van Zandt on the couch on the eve of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's 2023 world tour. As we learned from Stevie's excellent 2021 memoir, Unrequited Infatuations, despite appearing to having lived the most charmed life imaginable, he spent decades being haunted by his early Eighties decision to leave the band of longtime best friend Springsteen on the eve of the “Born In The USA” album. Host and guest explore the meaning of failure and success. It gets a little raw. Plus: Steve on why he didn't care for Peter Jackson's Let It Be, and the recipe for keeping bands together. And: Andrew nominates Paul Simon for a dubious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame award for a lifetime of questionable behavior.

The episode title is a little misleading. We didn't have the space to write, "The history of 'Santa Claus is Comin' To Town' and the search for the greatest version of the song from 1934 to the present time." We do get to the versions by both the Jackson 5 and Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band by the final twenty minutes, but first we take you through the odyssey that is "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town." Co-hosts Hal Schwartz and Flynn McLean look back at the stand, which culminated with the classic New Years Eve performance. MISSY RAINES has proven herself without doubt as one of the iconic bluegrass instrumentalist of all time. In 1998, Raines became the first woman to win IBMA's Bass Player of the Year award and she went on to win the title more than any other bass player in the history of the organization, male or female. On her newest release on Compass Records, ‘Royal Traveller' Raines has stepped into the spotlight as a songwriter for the first time. The album digs deep into her family life and her upbringing in West Virginia. The stand out track “Swept Away”, features the 5 first women to win IBMA instrumentalist awards, Raines, Alison Brown (banjo), Sierra Hull (mandolin), Becky Buller (fiddle), and Molly Tuttle (guitar). “Swept Away” was named 2018 IBMA “Recorded Event of the Year”. WILLIE NILE was hailed by the New York Times as “one of the most gifted singer-songwriters to emerge from the New York scene in years.” Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Townshend, Lou Reed, Lucinda Williams, Jim Jarmusch, and Little Steven are among those who have sung his praises. Willie has toured across the U.S. with the Who and has sung with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. As the induction program from the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame says: "His live performances are legendary.” His 12th studio album 'Children of Paradise' was released in the summer of 2018 to universal acclaim. Rob Esse talks about the incredible transcendent experience of watching or attending a live concert by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. After spending many years not quite understanding the full appeal of Springsteen as a musician, Rob started watching footage of Springsteen and his band in concert. He was impressed with what he saw. Then came the moment that changed everything and cemented Rob Esse as a true believer. He attended a 3-hour concert by Bruce and the band in Australia, suffice to say it was one of the greatest live shows he's ever attended.
