Brent grew up in the college town of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and is the son of a teacher/school administrator (dad) and a successful real estate broker (mom). On a family trip to NYC when Brent was in grade school, he saw Ethel Merman in Hello, Dolly! This sparked a love of theater and eventually a move to Manhattan to pursue a career in musical theater. Brent has performed off-Broadway, in regional theaters across the US, and on cruise ships worldwide for over ten years. In the late 1990s, Brent left the theater and began working in non-profit administration, spending almost 20 years as the business manager for a Nobel laureate in a research laboratory at Rockefeller University.A friend from his theater days introduced Brent to Asbury Park, NJ, in the early 2000s when the city changed from a gritty ghost town to a Jersey Shore Mecca for gays wanting to nab an affordable house near the beach. After many vacation trips to Asbury, Brent and his husband bought their first shore home in 2011.Brent retired early at the end of the pandemic and started a new career in real estate, following in his mother's footsteps. He enjoys making many new friends, as his mother did, and helping to find the perfect shore home for his clients.Brent enjoys small-town life. Now in his third Asbury home, he lives with his husband Joe, also a former actor turned non-profit professional, and their mini-Aussiedoodle Dickens.SummaryBrent Winborn shares his journey to Asbury Park, New Jersey, highlighting the city's transformation from a gritty ghost town to a vibrant LGBTQ+ mecca. He describes Asbury Park's geographical overview, unique perspectives, and proximity to New York City and Philadelphia. Brent also discusses the climate, which has four seasons but milder winters and longer fall periods. He emphasizes the strong LGBTQ+ community in Asbury Park, the presence of gay bars and hotels, and the sense of community and acceptance. Brent also provides insights into the cost of living, including home prices, rentals, utilities, and groceries. Asbury Park offers diverse housing options, from newer condos to renovated older buildings. The vibrant cultural scene has festivals, music events, theaters, and galleries. The restaurant scene is diverse, with options ranging from dive bar burgers to high-end dining. Asbury Park is a walkable city, and while public transportation is limited, e-scooters and e-bikes are popular for getting around. Safety is not a major concern, and excellent healthcare facilities are nearby. Challenges include parking availability and the need for more hotels. John is joined by the legendary guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer, arranger, and all around rock-and-roll legend Steve Van Zandt, equally famous for his roles as Bruce Springsteen's longtime sidekick and as Silvio Dante in The Sopranos. In their freewheeling conversation, Stevie reflects on how his remarkable, up-and-down, 60-year career as a musician, actor, and activist has, time and again, placed him at or near the center of modern culture — and how his proudest achievement to this day is the unlikely, ultimately heroic part he played in freeing Nelson Mandela. We invite you to watch or hear this in-depth interview with the new CEO of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Dr. Anthony Estreet. He holds his LCSW Credentials as well as an MBA. Dr. Estreet is a Bowie State University graduate, where he earned a bachelor's in science in psychology. He then moved on to Virginia Commonwealth University and Morgan State University, where he earned an MSW in social work and a doctorate in social work, respectively. He became a part of the MSU family in 2013. When he isn't busy training up the next generation of social workers, Dr. Estreet can be seen working with Next Step Treatment Center, an organization that offers solutions and resources for both substance use and improved mental health. He is a long-time member of the Maryland Chapter of NASW, where he has served as president. He also helps improve social work as a member of the Council on Social Work Education. During his time at Morgan, Estreet received roughly $6 million earmarked specifically as “funding for social work workforce development, research, and training. He also led the development and expansion of the first MSW program in the United States, and at a historically Black college or university, to have an area of specialized practice focused on addressing substance use disorders,” according to information released by NASW. At the top of his list of goals are his plans to grow the organization's membership, while also “addressing social justice issues, including racial equity and reproductive rights.” NASW reports that Estreet plans to “work to strengthen the social work workforce by expanding efforts to increase compensation for social workers.” Estreet said he is “honored and humbled to be the next CEO of NASW.” “I have been a member of this great organization since 2007,” he said in a statement. “As a former member of the NASW Board, I know NASW is committed to supporting social workers and the communities they serve. This organization has done phenomenal work especially in the past three years, including supporting social workers in the delivery of mental health services during the pandemic and addressing systemic racism. However, we have much more work to do, and I stand ready to work collaboratively to support our great profession.” #NASW #NASWNYS #NASWNYC #Adelphiuniversity#MorganStateUniversity #adelphi #BowieStateUniversity #VirginiaCommonwealth #CSWE #IFSW #NASWFoundation #Kelsunnontheair #NSWM #blackmensmentalhealthconference #socialwork #socialworkers #stonybrookuniversity #stonybrookuniversityschoolofsocialwelfare #brooklyncollege #suffolkcommunitycollege #molloyuniversity #albanystateuniversity #saintjosephsuniversity

It came roaring out of the car radio speakers like a sonic boom, powered by Dave Clark's “Air Hammer” pulsating drum beats and Denis Payton's beefy saxophone. (Clearly, this was inspirational to Clarence Clemons, when crafting Bruce Springsteen's, E-Street sound.) Mike Smith, on double-tracked lead vocal and Vox organ may have looked like the leader, with his cute Paul McCartney face, but without a doubt this was the drummer's party. Dave Clark, (b.1939) is an entrepreneurial former stunt-man, who parlayed his Tottenham sound into a multi-million dollar concern; he owned all his masters from day one, re-releasing them, to universal acclaim, on CD in 1993; the other song writers in the group shared writing credits with Clark unquestioningly - even if he hadn't written a line. The Dave Clark 5 started as a teenage skiffle group to raise funds for his school football team to go to the Netherlands, and, fittingly, this song became an anthem for several teams throughout the years. Can't you just picture the screaming hordes bellowing GLAD ALL OVER when their team scores a goal?Glad All Over nudged the indomitable Beatles' I Want To Hold Your Hand off the UK's #1 slot, and the band was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2008. It's the pinnacle of Sunny Songdom - nothing but pure, adrenalized fun.

They also write their list of demands for Bruce, attempt to call the U.S. Naval Observatory's time-by-phone service, and go through the history of compact discs. Ken Rosen is the author and creator of the Bruce Springsteen blog - EStreetShuffle.com In this episode Ken tells us that his wife was the inspiration for him starting the blog. Well, kind of! She was fed up of him recounting Bruce stories over dinner, so asked him 'Why don't you start a Bruce blog?'. Now that Mr and Mrs Rosen talk about normal things over dinner, he has fresh vigour and energy to put out daily postings that, for E Street fans, are absolutely riveting. Rosie gets the order slightly wrong today. Peppie is heard barking in the background, and staff interviews were conducted so that we can get well deserved help in the E Street Cafe. Pour yourself some Bruce Juice, sit back and enjoy the chat. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jeff-matthews4/message

This week on "I've Been Meaning To Listen To That", KEVIN T. PORTER (Gilmore Guys, Good Christian Fun, Inside Voices) returns to talk about "The Wild, The Innocent, & The E-Street Shuffle" by Bruce Springsteen! In addition, we talk about songs like "Rosalita" and "Sandy" which gave Kevin the vocabulary to comprehend community and romantic love, how "The Wild, The Innocent, & The E-Street Shuffle" is the demo tape that develops into "Born to Run", how Bruce is somehow to balance effortless cool with sweaty exertion, and so much more! Does Kevin successfully bully Andrew & Stefanie into seeing Bruce Springsteen live at Wrigley Field? Does Michael yawn a lot while Kevin is talking? Tune in to find out! Sound artist and former WFMU DJ Samantha Simmons is our guest as we finally feature a record by "The Boss." So far so good here on the Cadillac Jack: My Second Act podcast. We just have one question: are these things loaded? It's Thanksgiving Day here on the show and Donna starts us off by reminding everyone to take a beat. If you are spending time with family or another meaningful moment, and you get the urge to get up and clean, or move, or work, take a beat. Let the environment sit for just a few more minutes. You'll be glad you did. To fulfill our obligation as a "semi" music podcast, we quickly move on to Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen. Bruce says he'll be attending Taylor's concert(s) and wants her to know: she's welcome on E Street any time. Then we get heavenly. Then we take a break. Now go eat some turkey and tell it on the mountain. 7704646024.
