Frank starts out in French Polynesia, does the Mormon thing in Utah, gets abducted by Lakota delivering mail in Montana, hangs out with Sitting Bull, then guides Gen. Crook against his old friends and probably fucks over Crazy Horse. Not bad for one afternoon.

Herlinda Heras & Dave MacLean. Dave MacLean is our guest on Brew Ha Ha with Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras, to talk about curating the beer experience at Beer Lands. It is part of Outside Lands 2025, in Golden Gate Park, on August 8, 9 & 10th. He has been on BHH before, the last time was this episode a couple of years ago. Dave is also a co-founder of Admiral Maltings and is the former owner of Magnolia Brewing. Dave is also here to tell us about opening a new brewery called Hidden Splendor Beer. His discussion of the new brewery is on this other podcast episode. This allows each of today's subjects, Outside Lands and Hidden Splendor, to have their own audio track and search traffic. ;) This is the 12th year for Beer Lands. It will get a different look and feel this year. Dave describes this year's Beer Lands setup from having seen the plans, but it is yet to be built in the new way. It will still be on the Polo field but closer to the main stage. They have 22 breweries including a couple of Cider houses. Each brewery will feature two beers. Dave's job is to curate a well-rounded menu of all the different beer styles. It should show the variety of beer being produced in the San Francisco area and not be not just an IPA fest or a lager fest. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. Outside Lands 2025 Music The music lineup for Outside Lands (pictured above) includes three days worth of rosters of artists, from up-and-comers to established top-line acts. There are seven stages that are located around Golden Gate Park. Visit our sponsor Pizzaleah in Windsor for the finest pizza menu and the most authentic flavors around!

John G. Bourke won the Medal of Honor during the American Civil War.  He stayed in the army and graduated from West Point in 1869.  Between 1869 and 1883, Bourke served on the frontier with much of that time spent as an aide to General George Crook.  Bourke saw action in the Apache Wars and Great Sioux War.  He clashed with Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, and Geronimo.  Bourke was a keen observer and chronicled his varied experiences.  He published them in 1892 under the title of "On the Border With Crook."  This book is a raw, insightful, and fascinating firsthand account of life in America's Old West.

Bills love of history and travel were instilled in him as a young boy growing up on the family farm in Pennsylvania. Bill has been in the films Dances with Wolves, Son of the Morning Star, Far and Away, Gettysburg, and Crazy Horse. Bill's soon to be released book on Jim Bridger promises to take you to the next level. After two years of research his respect for him has grown. He accepted all people no matter who they were and only when they turned on him would he treat them as enemies. He tried to stay out of fights, but if one was unavoidable, he was in the forefront. He was like many of us, in love with the West.

Dr. History's Tales of the Old West

In 1519 a Spanish galleon brought ten stallions and six mares ashore, this would forever change the lives of the Native Americans. The tribes had distinct communities and customs with different languages, but they knew the universal sign language. The land was possessed in common as opposed to the European concept of land ownership. Over 350 treaties were made and broken. Thus began the saga of conflict with such famous Chiefs as Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Geronimo, Chief Joseph and many others. Learn more about your ad choices.

Playlist;(sintonía) NEIL YOUNG “Vampire blues (live)” (Coastal; The Soundtrack, 2025; grabado en directo en 2023)NEIL YOUNG “Sail away” (Oceanside, Countryside)NEIL YOUNG “Human highway” (Oceanside, Countryside)NEIL YOUNG “It might have been” (Oceanside, Countryside)NEIL YOUNG “The old homestead” (Oceanside, Countryside)NEIL YOUNG “Goin’ back” (Oceanside, Countryside)NEIL YOUNG “Come on baby let’s go downtown” (Early daze)NEIL YOUNG “Winterlong” (Early daze)NEIL YOUNG “Everybody’s alone” (Early daze)NEIL YOUNG “Wonderin’” (Early daze)NEIL YOUNG “Look at all the things” (Early daze)NEIL YOUNG “Down by the river” (Early daze)Escuchar audio

WVBR News Director Jack Donnellan sat down for a second time with author, editor, and publisher Mark Wish. Mark and his wife founded an annual short story anthology, Coolest American Stories, which pushes its contributors to make their fiction as compelling as possible, reminding them that readers crave “unputdownable” storytelling. George Noory celebrated the start of his 23rd year hosting Coast to Coast AM, welcoming John Kachuba to discuss his research into shapeshifters — people who can change themselves into another person, animal, or inanimate object. Kachuba differentiated between voluntary and involuntary transformations, with the former being controlled by the individual, as seen in werewolf legends, and the latter often occurring in myths where gods transform mortals against their will. He highlighted the cultural ubiquity of shapeshifting, tracing its origins to ancient cave paintings and folklore worldwide, where it ranges from myth to accounts of purportedly real transformations.Kachuba elaborated on the shamanistic practices of shapeshifting, particularly in indigenous cultures like the Kalahari Bushmen. These rituals involve trance states induced by dance, percussion, or hallucinogens, enabling shamans to embody animals, seeing through their eyes and behaving as the creatures they represent. Such transformations, he explained, are integral to spiritual practices and storytelling across many traditions, blurring the line between physical and metaphysical changes. He introduced the concept of "internal" shapeshifting, where a person's outward appearance remains unchanged, but their nature or identity shifts dramatically, exemplified by figures like Ted Bundy.Kachuba touched on historical and cultural accounts, such as the beast of Gévaudan in France and Japanese shapeshifting ghosts. He also examined religious and psychological interpretations, including biblical references to Jesus appearing differently to various people. His research draws from extensive travel and historical texts, weaving together folklore, mythology, and real-world phenomena. Kachuba's layered perspective underscores shapeshifting's enduring presence in human imagination and its intriguing blend of reality and myth.------------------------------------------Open Lines followed in the latter half of the program. Matthew in Missouri shared a personal experience involving unexplained phenomena. He suggested a link between his flying cup incident and this unfortunate backstory.Louise, who believes she is the reincarnated Cleopatra, reflected on a lifetime of extraordinary personal experiences, spanning near-tragic accidents, professional achievements, and unique encounters. She recounted surviving a childhood train collision with minimal injuries and witnessing a car pass through another vehicle without harm years later. She also fondly remembered being Muhammad Ali's first girlfriend during their teenage years, describing how they met and her emotional reaction to seeing him box on television.Mark in California shared various anecdotes, including hearing stories about Crazy Horse as a shapeshifter and an intriguing experience as a stagehand for a Cyndi Lauper concert. He speculated that Lauper might be a frequent caller to the Coast to Coast AM, as her voice closely resembled that of a regular caller, but Mark admitted he was too shy to confirm this with her directly. The final half hour featured a replay from 12/5/2016 when author Elizabeth Greenwood talked about how and why people fake their own deaths.

There are plenty of milestone anniversaries in Pearl Jam history that we have to celebrate in 2025 - the 25th anniversary of the Binaural tour and the 20th anniversary of the 2005 Canadian leg come to mind, but one of the big anniversaries that we'll be digging into this year is the 30th anniversary of the legendary 1995 Vitalogy tour. This was a year of classic shows and moments from places like Red Rocks and Soldier Field, and in this episode we'll cover the show that kicks off a big year of touring - a Vote For Choice show in Washington DC. There are so many storylines that we have to cover in this one because of all the events that were happening in Pearl Jam's world at the time. There's the scarcity of tickets for this show where you had to send in a postcard to the Ten Club just to enter a lottery, Self Pollution Radio was broadcast a few days prior to this show happening that gave the audience a sneak peak as to how those Vitalogy songs that were all played on the Vs. tour were gonna sound polished up. This is considered to be the first show where Jack Irons is an official band member, and perhaps the biggest storyline is Neil Young's involvement and this stretch of shows ultimately leading to the recording of the Mirrorball record. This show will end with Neil joining the stage to play their first ever version of Act Of Love days after Neil played it with Crazy Horse at the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame induction. We'll talk about how important that record was for the band and how Neil's influence has stuck with the group ever since. In today's episode we're joined by Brian Horwitz from the Hallucinogenic Recipe podcast, and we'll get to talking about the circulation of this bootleg and some of the other popular 1995 bootlegs, and we'll discuss what boots were must owns once everything digitized in the 2000s. Goose shares the story of Crazy Horse and General Custer, and teaches us a powerful lesson about the significance of community and collaboration. Strength lies in unity: History shows that teams, or "tribes", achieve greatness through collective efforts rather than isolated endeavors. This principle transcends military contexts; it applies to our personal lives as well. Embracing the support of a strong community or a band of brothers can propel individuals toward success against the odds that life throws at us. Establishing meaningful and consistent connections within a God-fearing tribe is essential for overcoming life's battles. In the finale of our Mount Rushmore series, Mount Rushmore National Memorial gets finished. But the final product isn't quite what Gutzon Borglum envisioned. The presidents aren't sculpted down to their waists. There is no entablature. There is no true hall of records. There isn't a message, written in three languages, in the hope that it'll one day become Rosetta Stone 2: Electric Boogaloo. And yet? It's there! Despite the odds, four 60-foot tall faces of iconic American presidents are carved into a stolen, sacred mountain. Every year, millions of tourists make the trek to take a look. So… how do we feel about that? Welp, as Normie C likes to say, “two things can be true!” It's awful and awesome, beautiful and hideous, exciting and saddening. Remember, kids, history hoes always cite their sources! Following the tragic death of Crazy Horse and the ruthless cessation of the Sioux way of life, the last of the great Native American leaders were gradually picked off or repressed by the U.S. Government. Few though had so pitiful a fate as the once mighty Lakota War Chieftain, Sitting Bull. Having fled to Canada in search of peace from the relentless harrowing of his people, Sitting Bull finally returned and arrived at the Standing Rock Reservation in 1883. He was unprepared, however, for the changes wrought upon his people. With the explosion of railroads and the decimation of the already flailing buffalo populations, the Great Plains had been transformed into a desolate, barbed wasteland. While, the Native Americans within the reservations were increasingly coerced into Christianity by missionaries, or controlled by Federal agents. Then, news reached Sitting Bull and his people of a messianic figure from beyond the Rocky Mountains, who would come to liberate them from their plight. With him he brought the answer to their troubles: the Ghost Dance. Would it see the drums of war sound once more?  Join Dominic and Tom as they discuss the life of Sitting Bull in the years following his victory at the Little Bighorn: the destruction of the Plains, his time with the infamous Buffalo Bill, and the birth of the mystical, incendiary Ghost Dance.  EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/restishistory Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! *The Rest Is History LIVE in 2024* Tom and Dominic are back onstage this summer, at Hampton Court Palace in London!
