On this episode of Vinyl Verdict, Bell, Jamie and Adam listen to Bell's next pick, Pezz's "Watoosh!". Released in 1999, it is the only album from Pezz, because as it turns out, there was another band called Pezz already. The band later changed their name to Billy Talent and is now one of Canada's most successful artists. "Watoosh!" is reminiscent of a number of albums we have covered previously because it is a little bit of what you might hear on a Tony Hawk soundtrack. But what will the boys think of the album? Will it have them "Absorbed" or will it all fall apart after the "Recap"? Come along and find out!
Hi everybody and welcome to another episode of The Talk Music Podcast. I'm absolutely thrilled to post this wonderful chat with STEVE KANE, who just recently stepped down as PRESIDENT OF WARNER MUSIC CANADA where he orchestrated tremendous success for the label for over 20 years.Steve not only led the daily operations of the company, but also oversaw the signings of BILLY TALENT, SCOTT HELMAN and the re-signing of BLUE RODEO, to name a few. We dive deep into how he earned his stripes as president, starting his career on Yonge St. at an indie record shop and being mentored by some of the greats in our business. We also chat about his current involvement, including MAKE MUSIC MATTER and SING. We round out our discussion with a bit of insight on how to navigate the music biz these days as an up-and-coming artist. I loved this chat with Steve, he really is one of the GOOD guys out there. I look forward to bumping into him somewhere where music lives! As an added bonus, I've included some of Steve's musical faves that he listens to at home. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. It's been five years since Royal Republic dropped their album "Club Majesty." Now, in 2024, we're finally getting fresh tunes from the Swedish rockers hailing from Malmö. In an exclusive interview with ROCK ANTENNE, we caught up with bassist Jonas Almén to chat about their latest record "Love Cop," the band's pre-show rituals, and their collabs with German punk icons Die Toten Hosen and Billy Talent. Plus, the musician dished on his love for metal and the Hamburg-based hip-hop and electropunk outfit Deichkind.
Ross Gordon, the lead singer and guitarist of Cold Years, has made some impressive strides with his band. This year, they're not just celebrating a decade together; the Scottish rockers also had the chance to open for Billy Talent on their recent tour. In our exclusive ROCK ANTENNE interview, Ross spilled the beans on how to nail a pop cover, like one of Lizzo's hits, and gave us a glimpse into how he spent the release day of their new album "A Different Life." He also offered his take on today's streaming and radio scenes. Sit back, enjoy, and have a great time!
If we had a nickel for every gym battle in The Johto Journeys so far, we would have one nickel. It's finally here folks! The journey to Violet City only took a million years but that's okay because this week's episodes are awesome! To Kill A Delibird is reviewing, recapping and reliving Ep. 133, “Fighting Flyer with Fire” and Ep. 134, “For Crying Out Loud”. The opening bit is about flying related media, so please hold out for next week to hear the conclusion to The Murder of Tracey Sketchit. Ep. 133 is the gym battle and it is a super fun episode! Neither of us expected the front man from Billy Talent to play Falkner. Ep. 134 caused us to coin the term “Victorian Stank” so that is fun. Want to know what we are talking about? In this episode, Martin and Steve are joined by their good friend Sam. A different Sam this time. You might have heard a story about Sam asking someone from the crowd to put their balls in his face when he played a gig in his younger days. Listen to find out if the story is true or not. Sam chose the self-titled Billy Talent album from the year 2003. Disclaimer: This episode was recorded before Atom Willard was announced as the new Alkaline Trio drummer, so Martin's guess is for real.

Fasten your seatbelts, music enthusiasts, as I welcome the multi-faceted Canadian artist Jack Panic on this engaging installment of Music Junkies. Jack's musical voyage began with the piano at the tender age of eight, transitioning to the guitar, and eventually playing bass in the band Sparrows. As he shares his fascinating journey, we traverse the turbulent terrain of the music industry, unearthing insights about the endurance and sincerity found in bands like Motley Crue and Tommy Lee, punctuated by an intriguing encounter with DJ Ashba But it's not all about the high notes and hit songs. The conversation takes a poignant turn, as we explore the echoes of managing relationships for artists living life in the fast lane. We dissect the transformation of the entertainment world, from the rock & roll rebellion of yesteryears to the more accountable and somewhat censored environment of today. Also on the playlist is a discussion about how concerts have evolved over the years, from a wild, immersive experience to a polished performance for social media. Our deep dive into the world of music wouldn't be complete without discussing our favorite genres and songs, and underlining the importance of an open mind when it comes to appreciating different types of music. Jack and I also pull back the curtain on his secret Billy Talent show at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. Finally, we wrap up by exploring the creative process behind his music, the challenges of releasing an album independently, and where you can find him online. Tune in to this electric episode of Music Junkies and experience the thrilling journey of Jack Panic! You can find out more about Jack by finding him on Instagram and Twitter @thejackpanic, on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TheRealJackPanicFollow us everywhere Watch the full episode on YouTubeCheck out Jack's Playlist on Spotify Make sure to HIT that LIKE BUTTON and SUBSCRIBE to our Channel to be notified of new episodes! It's hard being in a band…all that time close together, day and night, in cramped vans and crappy dressing rooms…record company issues, personal issues, personnel problems and the general fragile state of the human condition…it's no wonder so many groups break up...after a while, it's just too much trouble. But there are exceptions, bands that somehow manage to stay together in the same form forever, no matter what happens… the Radiohead that we know today is really the only Radiohead there's ever been…U2 hasn't had a lineup change since 1978… ZZ Top has been the same three guys since 1969… And here's another one to add to the list: Billy Talent…same four guys since 1993…how have they managed that?...well, if you want the truth, go to the source… This is Billy Talent: in their own words, part 3 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
I've done hundreds of interviews with individual artists over the year…it's relatively easy...all you have to do is get one person in a room, turn on the recording devices and you're set… When it comes to interviewing a band, you're lucky to get two members in the same place and the same time… But getting every member of a band in the same place at the same time for an interview is next to impossible…I've only managed to be so lucky a couple of times… U2, Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Blink-182—and that's about it… And lemme tell you something: each of these interviews required extraordinary efforts under extraordinary circumstances… Such circumstances miraculously presented themselves with Billy Talent…all four guys around the same table in the same studio…the purpose?...to get them to tell the story of the band in their own words…this is part two of our conversation… See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The best way to construct a profile on an artist is to round up everyone together, put them in a studio and get them to tell their story themselves… But that can be difficult, especially with a band…beyond touring and recording schedules, everyone has their own lives and may even live in different cities…putting everyone in the same place could be impossible… It took a while, but we did it…i have all four members of Billy Talent in one place…and they're here for one purpose: to tell their story in their own words… See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
