It's a Quick Fix featuring Joe Buono (@IslesFix) and former VP of Communications for the Islanders, Chris Botta (@ChrisBottaNHL).The list of potential Islanders GMs is long, very long. In the last week, fans and media alike have speculated about a wide range and variety of candidates from Hall-of-Famers, to retreads, to popular Assistant GMs, and out-of-the-box options from around the league. For the first time, possibly in their history, the Islanders are conducting a proper search for their general manager. The man in charge of that search is John Collins, and reports indicate there's been no shortage of interest from qualified candidates around the league. It's now the job of Collins to sift through the chatter and the noise and decide which candidates deserve a long look.Plus, Chris and Joe comment on the organization letting go of radio broadcasters Chris King and Greg Picker, and the backlash response from the media and fan base. Is there still time for the team to reverse course? Joe then asks Chris where he was when Lanny McDonald broke the 1977-78 Islanders' hearts in overtime, which happened 47 years ago today at the Nassau Coliseum. Ever had a concert experience so powerful it stays with you for decades? Those magical nights when the music and memories fuse together to create something truly unforgettable? That's what we're exploring in this deeply nostalgic journey through legendary concert moments. We kick things off with spontaneous concert adventures from the pre-internet era. Remember when buying tickets meant physically going to a record store and getting whatever seats they handed you? Jim recounts how an impulse decision led to witnessing U2's iconic ‘The Unforgettable Fire' tour at Madison Square Garden in 1985, while Jimmy shares his technique for sneaking into better seats at Atlanta's Omni arena. The narrative shifts to one of rock's most celebrated collaborations - the night jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis joined the Grateful Dead at Nassau Coliseum in 1990. What began as one song invitation turned into an entire set of improvisation that produced some of the Dead's most transcendent music. We then travel to spring 1995 for a poignant look at Jerry Garcia's final tour. Despite his weakened voice, these Atlanta and Tampa shows represent the last opportunity I had to see the legendary guitarist before his untimely death. The episode isn't just concert tales - it's filled with fascinating musical connections across generations. From The Who's power chords on "I Can't Explain" to Billy Bragg borrowing Simon & Garfunkel's lyrics, we trace the lineage of influence that keeps music in constant conversation with itself.Have you experienced a concert moment that changed everything? Share your stories with us - we'd love to hear how music has shaped your most cherished memories too!Music in My Shoes" where music and memories intertwine.Learn Something New orRemember Something OldPlease Like and Follow our Facebook and Instagram page at Music In My Shoes. You can contact us at musicinmyshoes@gmail.com.Send us a one-way message. The Grateful Dead's last performance at Nassau Coliseum was on March 28th, 1994. And I remember that day as if it were yesterday. My law school study group and I traversed to the Coliseum, scalped front row tickets, and somehow, I made it backstage. The most magical thing occurred: I accidentally bumped into Jerry Garcia, the Dead's iconic frontman, and I convinced Jerry that I worked for my law school's newspaper. He agreed to a brief interview. I never shared the audio version of my conversation with Jerry Garcia publicly until now.The Grateful Dead is one of the most influential bands in history. Between 1965 and 1995, the Dead played over 2,300 concerts across the globe. Jerry Garcia was the leader of the Grateful Dead, a ‘60s counterculture icon who embodied peace, love, and artistic freedom.I hope you enjoy the ride.Order Marc's new book, "Some Future Day: How AI Is Going to Change Everything"Sign up for the Some Future Day Newsletter here: https://marcbeckman.substack.com/Episode Links:Dustin Blank on X: https://x.com/DustinBlankDustin's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dustin-blankElevenLabs: https://elevenlabs.io/To join the conversation, follow Marc Beckman here: YoutubeLinkedInTwitterInstagramTikTok

In today's episode we talk about a very special time for Pink Floyd between 1978 -1981 and the staging of THE WALL live shows. This would be the last time until 2005 where the main four members played live as a band, so it is an important, if melancholic period.Together with Kyle and Phil (Salathé) we discuss the circumstances surrounding the album THE WALL, the so-called ‘Performance Manuscript' and of course many shows from the tour itself. In particular we discuss the tour rehearsals, the start of the tour in Los Angeles on February 7th 1980, the video recordings of the concert in New York at the Nassau Coliseum, in London at Earl's Court, and of course about the great shows in Dortmund, a typical German city in the middle of the Ruhr area. We also take a brief look at the last run of wall shows in June of 1981.In a little more than 2 hours you will learn many insights, mishaps, surprises and hopefully yet unknown things about the Wall live!Credit goes to RarePinkFloyd for providing research materials for this episode. Hour 1 We don't normally get breaking news this early, but Ian Rapoport is saying that Aaron Glenn is meeting with the Jets today and they will not let him out of the building without a contract. Gio wanted somebody with head coaching experience. Boomer thinks Glenn will be a great head coach, but the Jets are in a whole different situation. How much of the Lions success is on Glenn? There's Dan Campbell, the offensive genius of Ben Johnson, and great drafts by the GM. Ben Johnson is going to the Bears, who are in the Lions division of course. Who will be a part of Glenn's coaching staff? Gio is not excited with the choice as he doesn't want another first time head coach here. Gio thinks if he was never on the Jets, he wouldn't even be considered. Boomer said maybe somebody with experience doesn't want to come to the Jets. Chris Spielman could be a GM candidate, and he has zero experience in that role as well. C-Lo is in for Jerry and here for his first update of the day and starts with Aaron Glenn on a podcast talking about an interaction with Bill Parcells. We heard the sounds of Ohio State beating Notre Dame for the National Championship. The Knicks beat the Hawks at MSG. In the final segment of the hour, Ben Johnson is going to the Bears and it looks like Aaron Glenn is coming to the Jets. Gio thought Johnson was going to the Raiders, but he really wants to work with Caleb Williams. Hour 2 We talked more about the Jets looking like they will agree to a deal with Aaron Glenn to become their next head coach. Gio doesn't like it because it's another coordinator with zero head coaching experience. We talked about Glenn's gameplan this past weekend against Jayden Daniels. It's looking like we're getting two fair weather games this weekend. C-Lo returns for an update, but first we talked about the Championship game in KC where Walker Hayes' ‘Fancy Like' was blasting through the stadium as the NFL Today was trying to broadcast. Aaron Glenn was on a podcast a few years ago and talked about relating to players. We wondered if Glenn would keep Aaron Rodgers at QB. Lance Newmark could be coming as GM as they worked together in Detroit before Lance went to Washington. We wondered who some famous people named Lance were. We heard the sounds of Ohio State beating Notre Dame in the National Championship. Kirk Herbstreit was emotional after the game. The Knicks beat the Hawks at MSG. In the final segment of the hour, our own Peter Schwartz has been hired as the GM of an arena football team playing at the Nassau Coliseum. The idea is to recruit local players. Peter will pick the coach. The coach will pick the players. Is this a full time job? Does he have an office? Hour 3 The Jets are expected to hire Aaron Glenn today, according to Ian Rapoport. Peter Schwartz has been named the GM of the Long Island arena league that is starting soon. The team doesn't have a name yet. We tried to come up with names for the Long Island team. We also talked about Italian Lizards on Long Island and how they got there. C-Lo returns for an update, but first we talked more about Peter Schwartz being the GM of the Long Island team in some new arena football league. The Jets are most likely signing Aaron Glenn after interviewing him today. Players are said to be excited at the prospect of Glann as head coach. Chris Simms, like Boomer, didn't like the throw from Lamar Jackson to Mark Andrews. Bill Belichick said the Ravens beat themselves. ‘You can't win til you can keep from losing' is what Tom Brady said (an old Belichick saying). In the final segment of the hour, Peter Schwartz joins us on the phone to talk about being the GM of the Long Island team of the new arena league. Hour 4 The Jets are interviewing Aaron Glenn and Lance Newmark and will most likely hire them as head coach and GM. Gio doesn't like the idea of these guys as they have not held these positions before. And for the Jets, that matters. The Jets need an alpha male like Rex Ryan or J ...

Playlist:DAVID BOWIE - StarmanDAVID BOWIE - My Death (Live, Hammersmith Odeon, London, 1973)DAVID BOWIE - It Ain't EasyDAVID BOWIE - Star (aka 'Stars') (Alternative Version - Take 5)DAVID BOWIE - StarDAVID BOWIE - Hang On To Yourself (Demo)DAVID BOWIE - Hang On To Yourself (Early Ziggy Session Take)DAVID BOWIE - Hang On To Yourself (Live, BBC, 1972)DAVID BOWIE - Velvet Goldmine (Ziggy Session Outtake)DAVID BOWIE - John, I'm Only Dancing (Alternative Trident Studios Version) DAVID BOWIE - Life On Mars? While not technically a Premium Live Event, it will still be a two-hour special airing on both NBC and Peacock, which felt like it deserved some predictions. Kevin Owens takes on Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship, Gunther looks to retain his World Heavyweight Championship in a triple threat match against Finn Balor and Damian Priest, and an inaugural Women's United States Champion will be crowned!

Send us a textHi everybody and welcome to today's episode of Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. Today's guest is Katie, but she is probably better known as The Phunky Witch around the Phish Twitter community. For today's episode, Katie chose a stunning, psychedelic segment from Phish's visit to the Sphere in Las Vegas: “Theme from the Bottom into Split Open and Melt” from April 19, 2024. Even though the band's 4-show stand at The Sphere happened fairly recently, I just knew it was a matter of time before a guest chose to talk about the music from that run. From any perspective, The enormity of The Sphere seems to be the perfect venue to discuss attendance bias. Is it possible to convey the experience of being at The Sphere in words? Or does one have to be in attendance to understand what it's like? Luckily, Katie chose a segment of the show where we can hear the musical magic and she does a great job explaining why it was special to be there. So let's join Katie to talk about red eye flights, the Nassau Coliseum, and black eyes as we discuss “Theme from the Bottom into Split Open and Melt” from April 19, 2024 at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

We talked about Aaron Rodgers and getting rid of the ball quickly like Tom Brady. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of the Mets beating the Nationals big time. Pete Alonso talked about Lindor's injury and how ‘the boys will hold it down'. The Yankees had no problem with the Mariners in Seattle. The Mariners tried a steal of home with the bases loaded and a 3-0 count on Justin Turner. It failed, inning over. Juan Soto homered and has now hit one in every MLB ballpark. Evan Roberts has a rallying phrase for the Giants: ‘Holy Crap'. Evan put together a song using A-I. In the final segment of the hour, ESPN SEC broadcaster Peter Burns had to have the heimlich maneuver performed on him. It took 4 people before it worked. Jerry saved somebody in the newsroom a few years ago and didn't tell anyone. We have a Life Vac here and work and Gio wants it in the studio. Jerod Mayo talked about needing more from the Patriots passing game. In the final segment of the hour a caller wonders if you'd rather have the history of the Giants or the Niners? Hour 3 Phil Simms joins us in his weekly spot and said tomorrow night is not going to be easy for the Jets. They are not the disaster we thought they were going to be. Phil thinks this is going to be a low scoring game. He's been impressed with the Patriots the first two weeks. We also talked about Daniel Jones and Malik Nabers performances last week. Phil said Myles Garrett is going to be a problem for them this week. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Mets beating the Nationals, 10-1. Jerry has an A-I song called ‘Holy Crap, Evan Roberts is a Douche' after Evan's ‘Holy Crap' song from yesterday. Jose Altuve was thrown out for showing up the umpire after they said he didn't foul a ball off his foot. Mel Kiper blames the Panthers for the Bryce Young situation. Stephen A. Smith compared Bryce Young to JaMarcus Russell. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the benching of Bryce Young and what the future holds for him. Will he end up being traded? Boomer doesn't think they've given up on him, they are just sitting him down. Boomer said he's on his third head coach and his second offense in just two years. We compared Young to Zach Wilson. Hour 4 Deion Sanders had a Mike Gundy, ‘I'm a man, I'm 40' moment when he was talking about the way the press is treating his players. He thinks the media is jealous of the player because they make more money than the journalists. Sanders seems to always be on the offensive. Colin Cowherd wants the people of Pennsylvania to worry more about voting and less about the Eagles. Jerry returns for his final update of the day but first we have a clip from Russ Salzberg who said there's one member of the media that covers the Giants that is rooting for their failure. Have you ever wondered about the strange and wonderful ways that music intertwines with our personal lives? That's exactly where we find ourselves starting, with a tale of an extreme New York Islanders fan whose antics draw an unexpected line to Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett. Our musical escapade doesn't stop there, as I whisk you away to a nostalgic recount of The Police's electrifying concert at Nassau Coliseum back in '82. You'll feel the buzz of "Message in a Bottle" and the heady sing-alongs to "Roxanne," as Jimmy reveals a personal misheard lyric that's sure to have you chuckling and reassessing your own lyrical faux pas.The Libertines released their first new album in 9 years 'All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade' and it's a good one. While giving my review, the story goes in a direction that will surprise you.The narrative takes a reflective turn as we honor the 30th anniversary of Oasis's breakthrough "Supersonic," capturing the raw spirit that surged through my younger years. Fast forward to a recent encounter with Live's enduring anthem album "Throwing Copper" performed live in Atlanta, and you'll be enveloped in the distinctive sound that challenged the grunge norm. Finally, we bridge the seemingly disparate worlds of Judas Priest's "Invincible Shield" and the folk rock legend Bob Dylan. It's these intricate musical tapestries that prove our shared love for the art transcends genres and decades. One of the highlights of this set follows, a fine version of Phil singing 'Broken Arrow'. Phil does an excellent job with this Robbie Robertson tune here. A nice 'Estimated Prophet leads into a fine Drums and Space, helped by the guest appearance of Boba Olatunji.  A nice but short 'Other One' follows out of Space, leading into a rare 'Attics of My Life' before the boys go into the familiar 'Throwing Stones>Not Fade Away' to end the set.  Jerry does a most excellent version of 'Liberty' as the encore to finish what was quite a good show.   Grateful Dead Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Uniondale, NY 4/4/1993 - Sunday Two     Eyes Of The World > Samson And Delilah Broken Arrow Estimated Prophet > Drums (1) > Space (1) > The Other One > Attics Of My Life > Throwing Stones > Not Fade Away Encore     Liberty Comments     (1) with Boba Olatunji  You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod041924.mp3 Thank you so much for your kind support.

Keeping It Real with Cam Marston

On this week's KIR, Cam Marston wonders if he could do the same thing for fifteen years and know, just know in his bones, that it would pay off. ----- I've just watched the documentary on Steve Martin called "Steve! A Documentary in Two Pieces." I've always liked Steve Martin. What caught my attention the most is that he did his standup act for fifteen years. The vast majority of that time, his audiences were very small. In one video clip, he's counting the number of people in the room during his act – there were fifteen people there. He got what he thought were big breaks that bombed, in one case opening for Anne Margaret in Las Vegas and after he finished his act all his belongings had been put in a box outside his dressing room. However, the last stand-up comedy act he did was at the Nassau Coliseum outside New York City where he sold it out three nights in a row – 45,000 people each night. After the third night, he walked off the stage, never to do that act ever again. He was at the top of his game. It took him fifteen years to get there. And then he was done. Question: Who of us have the will, the fortitude, to persevere for fifteen years – fifteen years - with the hope – actually, the confidence – that what we're doing will ultimately pan out. When giving up or changing course is a very real option but we chose not to do it because our vision of what could be is so strong. I'm not sure I do. How many of us can see the need for a change, or see a change coming, and get out in front of it, remain confident amongst the failure and rejection, and never waver. A number of times during the documentary Martin says that he did his act because he had few other options. The little money it brought in was all he had. Those interviewed, though, said he was waiting for society to catch up to his humor. Steve Martin changed standup and comedy and humor. He could see the change coming, but the vast majority of society wasn't aware that a change was happening. Martin saw it coming, ever so slowly, so he kept going. It's one thing to ID forthcoming changes in technology and how to get ahead of those changes to profit from new products – think Steve Jobs and the iPod – but what Steve Martin did was predict a change in the ethos of the United States following Vietnam. He had a hunch people would be different. And he kept at it. And, in time he was proven right. What's the moral of this story? Someone like that is out there amongst us right here and right now. Doing something we think is foolish, or that doesn't seem funny, or saying something that doesn't sound smart or goes against the grain of society. We ridicule them or cast them aside or, more likely, just ignore them. But they keep coming back. Perhaps, we should take a look. I'm Cam Marston and I'm just trying to Keep It Real.

This week on the Deadpod we have a very nice latter day show from Spring 1993. This comes to us from the Nassau Coliseum on April 4, 1993, and it is a Sunday night show.  Some of the highlights of the first set include a very nice Sugaree (Jerry's voice is a bit frail at times but he carries it off the entire show). 'When I Paint My Masterpiece' is always welcome in my book. Jerry does an excellent version of 'So Many Roads' and the 'Bird Song' after 'Eternity' is a sweet way to wind up the first set.    Grateful Dead Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Uniondale, NY 4/4/1993 - Sunday One     In The Midnight Hour   Sugaree > Walkin' Blues   Dire Wolf   When I Paint My Masterpiece   So Many Roads   Eternity > Bird Song  You can listen to this week's Deadpod here:  http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod041224.mp3 "So many roads, I tell you New York to San Francisco So many roads I know All I want is one to take me home"
