It's a packed show covering both the past and the future for the Texas Longhorns. We start with the penultimate chapter of our schedule previews, diving in on the Kansas Jayhawks. After coming into Austin and winning on a two-point conversion, the Jayhawks bring back more productions than any other team in the conference, which bodes well for their trajectory in the second year of Lance Leipold's tenure in Lawrence. So what will it look like for Kansas to take the next step in their march back to national relevance on the gridiron and what are the expectations for a team who has finished at the bottom of the conference for seven-consecutive seasons? Then we shift to Longhorn history, welcoming to the show Jonathan Wells to give us some insight into his two-year journey to settle the debate of which school has produced the most Longhorn football players. He gives us some insight about why he undertook such a detailed analysis and gives us a preview of what exactly he discovered. To read the full list, visit Burnt Orange Nation. We are back for another edition of the Wide Right and Natty Litecast. Matthias and Matt were joined this week by Derek Duke of Heartland College Sports. Derek has recently begun covering Iowa State and has done a phenomenal job covering the Cyclones. We get in depth on all things Iowa State recruiting and how he goes about covering Matt Campbell's efforts on the recruiting trail. The guys dove in on how they thought the Big 12 season was going to play out. Derek believes that Texas is indeed back and will find themselves in the Big 12 title game. There also may be a chance that Iowa State and Texas both find themselves in Arlington for the title game with Oklahoma looking on from the outside. Derek is fully on the Breece Hall hype train and has seen him play against the best of the best at the All American Bowl in San Antonio this past year.We wrap things up with a few twitter questions and one really whacky question for Derek that has been passed on to us from our friends at Burnt Orange Nation. Derek has now been fully welcomed into the Wide Right Natty Lite crew by answering this question. So stay tuned to end for that.As always thanks for listening. Also a big shoutout to our sponsor Es Tas Bar and Grill. Be sure to stop in anytime you are in Ames!

We are just a few short weeks away from the football season, with the new fall roster released and the Texas Longhorns gearing up for Big 12 Media Days. Texas is sending a large contingent to Dallas to represent the school, including Sam Ehlinger, Collin Johnson and Brandon Jones. While they preview the season, we continue through our season previews with Andy Mitts of Rock Chalk Talk, who joins us to give some insight into the 2019 Kansas football team. Running back Pooka Williams returns to a deep backfield following a one-game suspension, while the Jayhawks defense looks to replace one of the best players in school history. What will first-year head coach Les Miles do to take the Jayhawks to national prominence? We also bring you the latest in recruiting, as we welcome in Joe Hamilton, contributor at Burnt Orange Nation, to give some insight into the 2020 and 2021 recruiting efforts from Tom Herman and his staff. The Texas Longhorns wrapped up their spring practice with the 2019 Orange and White game. The white team - comprised of the first team defense and the second team offense - came out on top 12-6. The defense looked sharp and held the first team offense in check. To provide immediate takes on the spring game, Gerald welcomed Burnt Orange Nation site editor Wescott Eberts for a quick check-in. Wescott breaks down what he liked about the defense and what to expect from the offense heading into the 2019 season. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The excitement of Early Signing Day has come and gone, and the Texas Longhorns had a fairly uneventful day in a positive way. Twenty-one of their 22 committed players submitted their letters of intent and look to be locked in for yet another top-1o class. To break down the class, where Texas stands now, and what Texas will work on ahead of February’s National Signing Day we welcome Wescott Eberts of Burnt Orange Nation. We start by looking at immediate impact players and who the analysts like the most. Wescott gives his thoughts on how Texas tries to add more depth to the running backs group and looks at what running back Derrian Brown brings to the table. We also take some time to look at why Texas was very out of state heavy a year after locking up the state of Texas. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. It’s a big week for those of us who pay attention to recruiting, but before the signing period begins we found out that Toneil Carter and Mike Williams made the choice to transfer. How do these departures impact Texas moving forward and what does the depth now look like at two key positions? (3:13) To preview what could be a big Early Signing Period for Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns, we welcome in Cody Daniel, editor at Burnt Orange Nation (8:18). We look at what newly-committed linebacker Caleb Johnson means to the class, if Texas has a shot to land one of the uncommitted big names, and where Texas goes from there if they do not? Then, it’s a quick rundown of men’s basketball’s big win over Grand Canyon (21:57), before closing the show out with Bang the Drum (32:49). Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Levi, Cole, and Marchie sat down to discuss last weekend's win over Baylor. The defense gave up over 500 yards of offense, but only surrendered 14 points. Did the defense bend too much, or was it just all part of the plan? We also got Marchie's perspective on the fight, as he was on the sideline during the game and saw it up close. Then, we sat down with Gerald Goodridge of Burnt Orange Nation to get his perspective on the game. Will Texas' surging offense be able to put enough points on the board to overcome a banged up Texas secondary? Finally, we made our picks.
Bob and Chris tal kto Corey Eliot for Burnt Orange Nation on Texas' chance on keeping up with Oklahoma, plus what makes the Red River Rivalry so special.
Wescott Eberts of Burnt Orange Nation joins the podcast to talk Texas football, and the major overhaul of the program this offseason. Wescott breaks down new Head Coach Tom Herman's attention to detail, his all-star coaching staff, and expectations for his first year on the 40 acres. He explains what the Longhorns must do to improve their defense, why Shane Buechele might not be a lock to start at quarterback, and how Texas can account for losing D'Onta Foreman to the NFL draft. Also, the future of Texas recruiting, and reasonable expectations for 2017 are discussed.
Heading into the bye week, Peter Been from Burnt Orange Nation drops bye to talk about Texas, Oklahoma State, and attempts to take over the podcast and force us to leave the conference.
Iowa finally got around to hiring Greg Davis yesterday. Fortunately, the delay gave us plenty of time to set up a podcast with Peter Bean, purveyor of SBN Texas blog Burnt Orange Nation, EDSBS Live co-host, Friend of the Pants, and Greg Davis aficionado. We discuss Davis' stint with Texas, his recruiting prowess, what the hell happened in 2010, and whether he's got a wandering eye. Also, Adam's dog finds out about the hire about 20 minutes in and drowns everyone out with her laughter. (Sorry in advance for the AM radio-quality sound. Skype was having some connection issues.)
