This week on Eat Drink Smoke, Tony and Fingers review the Caldwell Crafted & Curated Savages Malpensante, a rich and surprisingly subtle cigar with notes of wood, leather, walnut and coffee. Is it worth $17 a stick? They have thoughts. They also pour the Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Heritage Barrel, a seven-year-old Tennessee whiskey bottled at 100 proof. It brings plenty of sweetness, oak, vanilla and a little disagreement over whether there is any banana hiding in the finish. Plus, Fingers introduces Tony to the Pepperidge Farm Coconut Cake of his childhood, Costco faces a class action lawsuit over its promotional emails, and the guys test out a bristle-free alternative for cleaning the grill. They also discuss rising cigar prices, the future of AI-assisted writing, and some heartbreaking news from their friends at Defiance Beef. All that, along with brisket experiments, Costco shopping disasters, and a truly unreasonable amount of coconut cake, on this episode of Eat Drink Smoke. When no one seems to be listening, how far do you go to be heard? In December 2008, George W. Bush made a surprise visit to Baghdad for a press conference. And at the very end of his remarks, a shoe came flying past his head. It was “the shoe heard around the world,” and countless jokes and memes ensued. But in the pandemonium, many missed the story of the man at the center: Muntadhar Al-Zaidi, a weary journalist trying to get the world to see the Iraq War in a different light. Even fewer people know what happened to him after. Nearly two decades later, Radiolab reporter Sarah Qari tracked Al-Zaidi down to learn the story of his life. What she found was a story about grief, anger, and the line where journalism ends and protest begins. Special thanks to Azmat Khan and Mustafa Salim. When passion, family tradition, and artisan craft come together, you get something truly magical. On this episode of The Ash Said It Show, we sat down with Lisa, the visionary founder behind Chelita's Desserts, to explore how she transformed cherished family roots into one of Suwanee, Georgia's most beloved cottage bakeries. Chelita's Desserts isn't just about satisfying a sweet tooth—it's an invitation to experience authentic Puerto Rican heritage through every bite. Born from a deep love for tradition, Lisa crafts small-batch, handmade treats that bring rich Latin flavors to the local community. Leaving mass-market shortcuts behind, every recipe is infused with genuine nostalgia, magnetic presentation, and the kind of personal care that makes every single order feel like a gift from a dear friend. While her entire menu turns heads—featuring creative twists like Strawberry Crunch and rich dulce de leche—there is one absolute showstopper that stole the spotlight during our chat: her famed Tres Leches Mini Loaves. Perfectly balanced, exquisitely moist, and never too heavy, these mini loaves have earned a massive local following and stand as the ultimate must-try for any first-time buyer. You can catch Chelita's Desserts next at local metro-Atlanta pop-ups, community markets, and by ordering directly online. Web: https://www.chelitasdesserts.c... Follow: @chelitasdesserts07 Call: 973-216-4767a Bio: Chelita's Desserts is a premier woman-owned, family-operated cottage bakery rooted in Suwanee, Georgia, specializing in authentic Puerto Rican-inspired small-batch sweets and luxury dessert creations. Bypassing mass-market commercial shortcuts, Chelita's Desserts relies on handcrafted, small-batch techniques using fresh, high-quality components to ensure every bite delivers a nostalgic, homemade taste experience. The bakery's undisputed signature showstopper is its lineup of Luxury Tres Leches Mini Loaves, celebrated across North Georgia for achieving the perfect balance of rich, decadent moisture without ever feeling overly dense or heavy. Alongside classic caramel-infused Dulce de Leche recipes, Lisa innovates with creative, trend-forward flavor variations including Strawberry Crunch, Cookies & Cream, Pineapple, Coconut, Red Velvet, and Lemon Pistachio. Beyond exceptional flavor profiles and magnetic presentation, Chelita's Desserts stands out for its high-touch customer service and deep community connections, making its personal-sized mini loaves and custom treats the ultimate choice for local Gwinnett County pop-up events, dessert gift boxes, teacher appreciation, corporate catering, and family celebrations. #ChelitasDesserts #SuwaneeGA #GwinnettEats #PuertoRicanDesserts #TresLechesMiniLoaf #GABakery #LatinaOwnedBusiness #AtlantaFoodies #CottageBakery #SmallBatchSweets #DulceDeLeche #GwinnettCountyFood #SuwaneeEats #AtlantaDesserts - Ready to ignite the spark that levels up your entire life? Once in a blue moon, we find a song that is so wild and weird, it becomes a brick in the ever-growing metaphorical mansion that is In The Past ... and it's usually by a group of young African-American women from the 1950s (see: "Pork and Gravy" by The De-Lo's; "Chic-A-Boomer" by The Del-Rhythmettes; and "Rock-and-Ree-Ah-Zole" - to name just one - by The Bobbettes.) This year, it's the incredible "Kill It!" by The Antwinetts. One of the craziest put-down songs you'll ever hear, and you need to hear it! Don't think our other selections are slouches, though: we next shine the spotlight on Shari Sheeley, who co-wrote "Something' Else" for her beau Eddie Cochran in 1959. Barry Mann & Cynthia Weilwrote the very dramatic "Chico's Girl," which eventually was covered by the aptly-named Girls (aka The Sandoval Sisters). Jackie DeShannonwrote the words and Jack Nitzsche the music for the achingly gorgeous "Baby That's Me" by The Cake. And we close it out with our favourite songwriting team, Lori Burton & Pam Sawyer and the garage classic "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore," here done by girls in the garage The Puppets. Hear them all roar!

In this episode, Tina chats with Kerri Axelrod about why perimenopause can throw your digestion off, from bloating and constipation to changes in your gut health. They talk about how hormone shifts in perimenopause, stress, under-eating, food additives like sugar alcohols and gums, and your nervous system all play a role in how your gut feels. Plus, Kerri shares simple, practical strategies to support better digestion and make meals work better for your body. Here's what you'll learn: - The moment Kerri realized her hormones weren't actually the problem - Why perimenopause feels so much harder for some women than others - The reason HRT works wonders for one woman and does nothing for the next - The real reason digestion seems to fall apart after 40 - Why bloating suddenly becomes a whole different beast after 40 - The everyday habit that could be making your bloating worse - Could your stress be showing up in your gut? - Constipated? In fact, I actively avoided science classes for most of my life and spent my 20s running full speed in the fast-paced world of national politics. I was working long hours on presidential campaigns and the world of DC politics, immersed in policy and communications. From the outside, it looked like I had it all together. But behind the scenes, my health was crumbling. I was anxious, exhausted, constipated, bloated, gaining weight that wouldn't budge, and wired-but-tired nearly every day. Doctors dismissed my symptoms as “just stress” or “normal.” I tried therapy, one medication after the next, more coffee, and more workouts. But, nothing worked. And even though I grew up in the peak of ‘90s and 2000s diet culture, with an “almond mom” and a low-fat everything lifestyle, I still thought I was doing all the right things. Eat less. Move more. Power through. Right? Until it all stopped working and I realized conventional medicine couldn't help me. In my late 20s, I hit a wall in my health. In 2011, I first learned about functional medicine and for the very first time I had hope that real healing was possible. But my first experience wasn't what I expected. Unfortunately, traditional functional medicine just swapped my prescriptions for supplements and my low-fat, low-calorie diet for an elimination diet. I still didn't get better. Like you, I'm a problem solver and action taker. I knew in my gut there was something deeper going on. So I made a decision that changed everything: I left politics, went back to school, and spent the next decade studying the science behind gut health, hormones, anxiety, nervous system work, nutrition and women's bodies.
Housing costs rarely rise because of one single policy, fee, or requirement. More often, they build layer by layer until the numbers no longer work. Capturing a Maryland icon, a housing advocate started to tag the layer-upon-layer of process as the "Smith Island Cake Effect." In Episode 5 of The Briefing Room's housing finance series, Dom Butchko and Terry Hickey are joined by Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman to explore the “Smith Island Cake Effect” and the many interconnected pressures shaping the cost of housing production. They talk through the layers and discuss where there are deeply considered policies, and where there are streamlining opportunities, to help advance Maryland toward more housing supply at every level.Notes:2025 Housing & the Economy ReportFollow us on Socials!MACo on TwitterMACo on Facebook

In this episode, Tina sits down with perimenopause weight loss coach Kayla Johnson to unpack why so many women in midlife are struggling with metabolic health and why microdosing a GLP-1 may be the missing piece for some. Kayla breaks down what's actually happening in your body during this stage of life, so you can make informed decisions that support both your health and how you feel day to day. Here's what you'll learn: - Kayla was doing everything "right," so why did perimenopause hit her so hard? - The dementia research that made Kayla completely change her mind about GLPs - Why so many women call GLPs a "shortcut" when it might be their smartest move - The one responsibility nobody mentions before you start peptides - What microdosing actually does to your muscle - The sourcing mistake that can ruin your whole GLP experience - Why doing GLPs alone is risky, and what coaching changes - GLPs done right vs. GLPs gone wrong "GLPs are too expensive." Why that excuse doesn't hold up - The real cost of skipping a GLP (it's more than money) - The best peptide and order to use for belly fat Book peptide consult: https://p.bttr.to/3uiKlRv https://Elliemd.com/Carrotsncake Peptides for Women Course: https://carrots-n-cake.mykajabi.com/offers/3Q7wttmr/checkout?coupon_code=PEP Peptides for Practitioners Certification: https://www.carrotsncake.com/offers/TrVo7mCz?coupon_code=PFPTINA Connect with Tina Haupert: https://carrotsncake.com/ Facebook: Carrots 'N' Cake https://www.facebook.com/carrotsncake Instagram: @carrotsncake https://www.instagram.com/carrotsncake YouTube: Tina Haupert https://www.youtube.com/user/carrotsncake About Tina Haupert: Tina Haupert is the owner of Carrots ‘N' Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). What if sugar could be good for you? Today's guest created a sugar substitute that is loaded with health benefits. Could your deserts really be good for you? (According to her they can!) In this episode of The Body Wisdom Podcast, Jamie sits down with Natalie Nicole, CEO of Dulsa Sweetener, to unpack one of the biggest conversations in modern wellness. What is sugar actually doing inside the body? Are artificial sweeteners really any better? Is high fructose corn syrup as harmful as we've been told? What about monk fruit, stevia, allulose, erythritol, xylitol, honey, maple syrup, and the countless "healthy" sugar substitutes lining grocery store shelves? Together, they touch on blood sugar regulation, gut health, inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, fatty liver disease, food addiction, and why so many people struggle to break free from sugar cravings. Natalie also shares the personal story that launched her into the wellness world, how her aunt's multiple sclerosis diagnosis changed the course of her life, and why she ultimately set out to create a different kind of sweetener designed to support health instead of simply satisfying a sweet tooth. This is not about perfection. It's about becoming an informed consumer. You are the only person qualified to get you to your personal health goals. In This Episode: • Natalie's incredible journey from caring for her aunt with multiple sclerosis to becoming the creator and CEO of Dulsa Sweetener • Why sugar became one of the most profitable ingredients in the modern food supply • The surprising differences between cane sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, and natural alternatives • The truth about monk fruit, stevia, allulose, honey, maple syrup, and fruit • Why your taste buds can be retrained instead of controlled by cravings • How to become an informed consumer in a world full of confusing food marketing • Why Natalie set out to create a functional sweetener instead of just another sugar substitute • The free daily habits both Jamie and Natalie prioritize for better energy, sleep, gut health, and long-term wellness Can you really have your cake and eat it too? Maybe. Not by pretending sugar doesn't matter, but by learning how to enjoy sweetness in a way that supports your body instead of working against it. This episode isn't about guilt or giving up everything you love. It's about making wiser choices, retraining your palate, and discovering that healthy living doesn't have to feel like deprivation. The sweetest life isn't the one with the most sugar. It's the one that gives you the freedom to enjoy it without sacrificing your health. Tyler Robinson's preliminary hearing, Karoline Leavitt's viral Gen Z gaffe, Trump Accounts, and Aaronalysis headline today's A.M. Update. The preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson kicks off in Utah with surveillance footage showing Robinson on the Utah Valley University campus four times before, during, and after the shooting, while Blake Neff reports that TPUSA's Terrell Farnsworth, who faced months of harassment from the Candace Owens crowd, was actually helping prosecutors all along. Karoline Leavitt tells Jesse Watters that Gen Z has been raised with silver spoons in their mouths, and Aaron says even with the out-of-context caveat that is a let-them-eat-cake moment the White House cannot afford. Trump rings the NYSE and Nasdaq opening bells from the Oval Office to mark the live launch of Trump Accounts, joined by Ted Cruz, Scott Bessent, and Michael and Susan Dell whose $6.25 billion pledge seeds $250 accounts for up to 25 million children under 10, and Aaron calls it a potential test run for eventually replacing Social Security.

Was Aleister Crowley merely an eccentric occultist—or was he operating as something far more dangerous? In this episode, Joel continues the "Agent Crowley" series by following Crowley through one of the most fascinating periods of his life. As World War I intensifies, Crowley finds himself caught between British Intelligence, German propagandists, and powerful figures operating behind the scenes. While publicly writing for The Fatherland, evidence suggests he was simultaneously serving British interests in a dangerous counterintelligence game. But the political story is only half of the mystery.During this same season of physical illness, spiritual collapse, and personal loss, Crowley claimed to receive guidance from Aiwass—the mysterious intelligence that dictated Liber AL vel Legis (The Book of the Law). We examine Crowley's own writings, his descriptions of Aiwass, his relationship with the so-called Secret Chiefs, and how these experiences shaped Thelema for generations to come. Was Aiwass simply a product of Crowley's imagination... or was something else speaking?Merchandise: https://freetherabbits.myshopify.comBuy Me A Coffee: DonateFollow: Website | Instagram | X | FacebookWatch: YouTube | RumbleMusic: YouTube | Spotify | Apple Music Films: https://merkelfilms.com Email: freetherabbitspodcast@gmail.comDistributed by: merkel.mediaIntro Music:Joel Thomas – Free The RabbitsYouTube | Spotify | Apple MusicOutro Music:Joel Thomas – GreyYouTube | Spotify | Apple MusicTopics Discussed:Aleister Crowley, Aiwass, Liber AL vel Legis, The Book of the Law, Thelema, Agent Crowley, British Intelligence, MI5, MI6, Sir William Wiseman, Everard Feilding, George Sylvester Viereck, The Fatherland, World War I, German Propaganda, O.T.O., Secret Chiefs, Holy Guardian Angel, Liber 73, Confessions of Aleister Crowley, Leon Engers, Gnostic Mass, Cake of Light, World War I Espionage, Occult Intelligence, Esoteric Orders, Biblical Worldview

What a gutting way to open the episode, showing Aniya on the ground sobbing over KC, Melanie by her side, while the Casa Amor ladies laugh and scoff at Aniya’s emotional reaction. Thankfully, and surprisingly, throughout the episode we see the Villa girls and the Casa Amor girls actually put aside their differences and apologize for bad behavior. But things got sticky literally and figuratively during the cake challenge, with Megan Thee Stallion hosting the game looking fierce, and speaking truth to the boys! It all ends with the surprise we saw coming, Carl and Amora are back, and ready to stir up everything! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
