In this week's Flagship Podcast interview, we talk to Tim Fitzgerald, publisher of GoPowercat.com, about this week's game between Texas and Kansas State and so much more. If you don't follow @LifeOfFitz on social media, you're missing out, because of Fitzy's whimsical views on life. So, of course, our conversation starts with his impressions of the Longhorns' season from his viewpoint in Manhattan, Kan., and all of his observations. Yes, there is plenty of talk about the Wildcats (7-4, 4-4 Big 12), who are likely to be without their starting quarterback Skylar Thompson for Friday's game (which likely means sophomore Will Howard getting the start). We talk about K-State coach Chris Klieman in Year 3 on the job and whether Klieman "feels like a fit" in Manhattan after taking over for legendary coach Bill Snyder (who has a book coming out Nov. 30 called "My Football Life - And The Rest Of The Story"). What would a conversation about K-State be without discussing their heart-and-soul player on offense - 5-foot-5 running back Deuce Vaughn - of Cedar Ridge in Round Rock - who leads the Wildcats in rushing (1,115 yards, 5.9 ypc, 14 TDs) and receptions (45 for 464 and 3 TDs). Fitzgerald talks about the other skill players on offense to keep an eye on, including receiver Malik Knowles, who is also a huge threat in the return game (with two kick returns for touchdowns this season). On defense, the conversation starts with "King Felix" - sophomore defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah, who leads the Big 12 in sacks (11) and leads the nation in forced fumbles (six). Fitzy details how Anudike-Uzomah is yet another diamond in the rough (few others were recruiting) who has turned into a star for the Wildcats. The Wildcats have won four of their last five, including victories over Texas Tech and TCU, which were quickly followed by both of those schools announcing the firing of their head coaches (Matt Wells and Gary Patterson, respectively). Fitzgerald talks about those games and how the aftermaths of those games affected Klieman. We talk to Fitzy about Andre Coleman, a K-State legend who is now the receivers coach at Texas, as well as what the Wildcats could look like in 2022 as well as some K-State hoops. It's great Thanksgiving week entertainment. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Texas Longhorns have one more shot to snap the losing streak, welcoming in an equally injured but much more successful Kansas State Wildcats team to close out the regular season. Kansas State is potentially without quarterback Skylar Thompson, who is dealing with a significant injury suffered against the Baylor Bears a week ago. Two untested backups are set to relive him, so the Wildcats will likely lean on star running back Deuce Vaughn, who currently sits No. 4 in the conference in rushing yards and second in touchdowns. They also bring with them one of the scariest rushers in the conference Felix Anudike-Uzomah - who leads the Big 12 in sacks and sits just one-half sack behind Jalen Pitre for the conference high in tackles for loss. What will it take for a battered Texas team to close this season out with some pride and a win? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. The Texas Longhorns saw their hopes for a bowl game go up in smoke Saturday as they fell to the West Virginia Mountaineers, extending the losing streak to six games in the process. The Longhorns once again saw a very winnable game slip away late, no thanks to injuries to both Casey Thompson and Hudson Card late in the game as they tried to mount their final comeback. The Texas defense gave up 459 yards - including 252 on explosive plays - while allowing the Mountaineers to convert on 60 percent of their third-down conversions. Jarret Doege had no problems with the Texas defense, passing for 290 yards and three touchdowns - without turning the ball over. Now Texas has one more chance as they welcome in the Kansas State Wildcats to Austin for Senior Day. With a win over KSU, they could snap the losing streak, send their seniors out with a much-needed win and close the season on a relatively positive note. The Longhorns' 2021 season may not have gone the way anyone expected, but even without post season on the table, Texas football has some positive news to celebrate this Thanksgiving week after sophomore running back Bijan Robinson confirmed his plans to return to the Longhorns to play for the 2022 season. The Flagship Podcast gets the week started off with a loaded show with Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes talking all things Texas football as the Longhorns prepare for their final game of the 2021 season. The Flagship weighs in on Steve Sarkisian's remarks about adding a transfer portal QB option as he prepares to open up the quarterback competition leading into the 2022 season. Chip and Taylor discuss what this means for the future of Casey Thompson and Hudson Card with the Longhorns and what to expect from the quarterback battle moving forward. The Flagship also talks about the huge news coming out of Monday's press conference that sophomore RB Bijan Robinson has no thoughts of sitting out the 2022 season to prepare for the NFL Draft. After a quick break, The Flagship returns with our 'Love it or leave it' segment, with this week's topics focused on if either Thompson or Card will transfer from Texas with Sarkisian's plans to re-open the QB competition in 2022, what Robinson's return means for the offense, what to expect from the Longhorns this Friday against Kansas State and much more! And then, there was one. The Mountaineer football team plays its last home game Saturday when the Texas Longhorns visit Milan Puskar Stadium. WVU may have played ten games, but it's still difficult to figure out how the Mountaineers will perform.  Despite a 4-6 record, West Virginia could still earn a bowl invitation or suffer its second losing season in the last three years. Like West Virginia, Texas has been unpredictable.  The Longhorns won their first four games and have lost their last six. Texas (4-6) arrives in Morgantown both mentally and physically depleted.  Star running back Bijan Robinson is one of several Longhorns who will miss the game with injuries.  In this episode, the “Guys” analyze the matchup and offer their thoughts on the keys to a WVU victory.  Listener questions and comments complete the show. They'll return on Monday to recap the football game and the WVU basketball team's performance at the Charleston Classic.

Now the Longhorns head to Morgantown to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers in a literal must-win game if they want to avoid missing a bowl game for the first time since Charlie Strong's last year on the sidelines. The Mountaineers are in the same spot - sitting 4-6 on the year with just two weeks left to play. For the first time since before DKR roamed the sidelines, Texas has lost five in a row. The Longhorns put up one of their best offensive performances of the year, but couldn't overcome a flat performance in the first half that dug them into the hole. So where do they go from here? Is there anything to learn about this team and the future under the current coaching staff? Can they win their final two games and salvage an already disastrous first season under Steve Sarkisian? The blows keep coming for the Longhorns. As if the five-game losing streak and a loss to former one-win Kansas wasn't tough enough, Texas will now play the final two games of the regular season schedule without two crucial members of the Longhorns' starting lineup. The Flagship Podcast kicks off the week with a loaded show as Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes deliver the latest news surrounding the Longhorns, which starts with the season-ending injuries to sophomore RB Bijan Robinson and senior CB Josh Thompson. The Flagship weighs in on the injured starters impact on the Texas offense and defense and what that could mean for the Longhorns, who have to win the last two games of the season in order to become bowl eligible. Chip and Taylor also preview Saturday's road game against the Mountaineers with both teams still in the hunt for bowl eligibility and needing to win-out in order to see the post season. The Flagship shifts focus to some Texas basketball talk and what to make of the men's loss to No. 1 Gonzaga and women's upset over defending national champion Stanford over the weekend. After a quick break, The Flagship returns with our 'Love it or leave it' segment, with this week's topics focused on how the Longhorns will finish the regular season without Robinson and Thompson, what to make of Casey Thompson and the quarterback position and the level of concern over the Longhorns being out-scored 44-22 in the paint against the Zags.
