I caught up with Raff for a coffee before the 2018 Adelaide season. Raff began playing football at the age of 9 at school level in Adelaide. One of the highlights with Campbelltown City was winning the rising star award in the first season. He enjoyed 3 seasons there and was offered a trial in the Hong Kong Premier League midway through 2012. After a brief experience in Hong Kong he moved back to ADELAIDE to start the South Australian Futsal League, which shifted his priorities to Futsal. He has enjoyed coaching FFSA teams. He tells a great story about his experience coaching Vanuatu National Team in preparing the for qualifying for Futsal World Cup. Diego Pellegrini offered Raffa the head coaching role with Eastern United FC 2018 - this ignited his coaching career. Raffa has just joined Adelaide University first team as head coach for 2019. Overview of our conversation 0:00 Introduction and Raffa’s soccer background, playing and coaching. 13:10 Raff shares what he learned from Adelaide United past coach, Josep Gumbau. 15:00 Coaching children 29:00 Raff talks about his opportunity to coach Vanuatu’s National Futsal Team. You’re not going to want to miss this one. In our second last show of the season we go a little longer than usual, and for good reason. This week Cody asks Jake to break down his ‘Vision’ for Australian football. With all the changes happening at the top level of our game, we’ve times this one nicely. In the video we refer to the “TPO Vision document. You can see that over on our website. For those who listened/watched, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Where has Jake got it right, and where has he got it wrong? We also discuss last weeks FFA Cup games and the NPL Finals game between now champions Campbelltown City and runners up Lions FC. See you next week for our season wrap up. Cheers, Jake and Cody
Congratulations to Campbelltown City who are the 2018 NPL Champions after beating QLD NPL Champions Lions in the Grand Final yesterday. Campbelltown scored in the 5th and 32nd minute to lead 2 nil at half time. Lions got one back early in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as Campbelltown held on to win 2-1. Not only are they crowned champions, but they have also won themselves a place in next years FFA Cup round of 32. A peace agreement has been reached that could end Australian football's long-running governance saga. Barring a last-minute intervention by FFA chairman Steven Lowy, the agreement on changes to the FFA Constitution could be ratified this week. FFA members say the fresh agreement reaches a consensus position on the future governance of the sport in Australia.
Retired Socceroo Harry Kewell will become the first footballer inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF) in 22 years, joining Peter Wilson, Ray Baartz, John Warren, Joe Marston and Alfred Quill. In the NPL Championship Semi Final, a 93rd minute penalty proved the difference as South Australia’s Campbelltown City defeated Sydney Olympic to set up a Grand Final next weekend against Lions FC. In the Illawarra District League Grand Final, Coniston has finished off a great year which already included the Premiership and promotion to next years Premier League, with a 3-0 win, adding the Championship to their trophy cabinet. And in the Victorian NPL2 Grand Final, Dandenong City has beaten Altona Magic 3-1, despite playing most of the game with 10 men.
In the last of the first round of the npl finals series games Sydney Olympic have prevailed over Perth Soccer Club 1 nil in Sydney yesterday afternoon. They will now face Campbelltown City in the semi final, while Heidelberg will take on Lions this Tuesday night in QLD. We’ve updated the TPO Rankings - which as always can be found at tporankings.com - and here’s a few updates. APIA are the highest non-A-league team in at 9th, followed up by 3 Victorian NPL sides with Bentleigh at 10th, Heidelberg in 11th and Avondale in 12th. Wellington Phoenix arre 13th, Sydney Olympic are rewarded with their awesome year up in 14th, Central Coast Mariners are 15th, Lions 16th and Campbelltown City are in 17th. And it’s for the best that I’m recording today’s briefing, not Jake - as I’m sure you’d be able to sense his disgust at this following news from the FFA.
Can Lions upset Adelaide? Jets or City? Comets finished their season a few weeks ago - can they step up against Heidelberg? And after a disappointing season can Bonnyrigg fire against WSW? We attempt to answer these questions in this week's show. We also turn our attention to some of last week's most exciting fixtures from around the NPL’s. AND, we look ahead to some of this weekend’s fixtures: Campbelltown City vs Adelaide City Adelaide Raiders vs Adelaide Blue Eagles Sydney United vs APIA Leichhardt Tigers Also, a reminder that you can get your free downloadable TPO Weekly Roundup pdf by entering your email on our website - www.tporankings.com See you at the same time next week. Cheers, Jake and Cody

MetroStars and United will face off with the winner playing the loser out of Adelaide City and Campbelltown City, who had a nil all draw in the first of their 2 finals matches. At the other end of the table Bulleen Lions have beaten Northcote City 4-2 to all but condemn them to relegation - it’ll take a miracle for them to survive.
