Tommy and Kelechi are back to review two cracking weeks of football here in WA. In the Women's we talk about Fremantle lifting their first-ever Women's State Cup with a commanding 3-0 win over Balcatta - and give flowers to a few familiar faces. In the Top Four Cup, Perth RedStar survived a thriller – Gabby Dal Busco the shootout hero as they beat Perth SC after a 1-1 draw, while Balcatta edged the Academy 4-3 in extra time thanks to a Rachel Jarvis double. In the Men's! Stirling produce a stunning late comeback with Danny Douglas the hero coming off the bench. We wrap up the fixture and highlight some positive stories and also talk about how hard it is to win stuff! We also talk about wins for Glory and Bayswater as the Glory keep their Top Four Cup run alive after a win in the penalty shoot against Perth Redstar while Baysie are in the final! ------------------------------ A big thank you to all the listeners for your continued support and also to our major sponsor - The Enhance Health Group – who are your trusted provider of comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services in the South West region of Western Australia. Josh and Tommy catch up post-Round 15 on Saturday evening to reflect on a big weekend at the top and bottom of the NPLWA - Men's competition. Tommy, meanwhile, saw Kingsway and RedStar play out a goalless draw in the meeting between second and fourth. There's a quick round-up of the picture at the top of the league as a result of the Azzurri's 5-3 win, which factors in a big win for the Football West Academy who are now at the summit. A thrilling title race is on the cards with the top four sides separated by only four points with eight rounds left. The lads then touch on the some of the storylines from the weekend's NPLWA - Men's fixtures with the six matches producing four draws. Tommy and Kelechi are the only ones at training but we have a doozy of a session prepared! We talk the incredible scenes at Forrestfield for the Scarlett Oliver memorial match and talk about the great support the Kids with Cancer Support group are doing. We talk about huge games at the top (Perth Glory v Olympic Kingsway) and bottom (Balcatta Etna v Floreat Athena) of the table. Armadale were in yellow and we ask if the Army are once again on the march? There's a classic at Macedonia Park to talk about and a worldie between Sorrento and Perth Redstar, along with much needed angle chat between Perth and Bayswater. In the Women's NPL, we give kudos to UWA-Nedlands after their 3-2 thriller against Subiaco. Tommy was in Bunbury for the game of the season between the FW Academy and Perth Redstar and we have some familiar faces back for the Azzurri, and familar goal scorers for Balcatta who are keeping pace with the leaders! Sean is back in the chair on hosting duties and is joined by Tommy and Josh to recap Round 8 of the NPLWA - Men's competition - as the top four sides failed to win for the second week running. Sean starts with an apology after the pod received plenty of feedback to last week's episode, as new footage emerged of Samuel Dweh's goal, before the panel discusses Glory and Bayswater's top of the table clash and Kingsway's meeting with Balcatta. There's praise for Matty George in RedStar's return to form, for Gordon Perkins' who's enjoying a breakout season and the impressive Kristian Santich, while Sean asks if Armadale is a threat to the top four after another pair of goals for Pieter. This week the podcast takes a look at the government's plans to try and fix the UK's rental market, with soaring rents, terrifying competition, no fault evictions, poorly maintained properties and huge supply pressures trapping an increasingly large cohort of tenants in a system that means they may never own their own homes. To discuss the Renters Rights Bill and how it will look to solve some of these issues, host Alain Tolhurst is joined by Joe Powell, Labour MP for Kensington and Bayswater, who sits on the housing select committee, as well as Roisin Lanigan, journalist and author, whose debut novel ‘I Want to Go Home But I'm Already There' has been billed as a “gothic novel for generation rent”.Alongside them is Tom Darling, director of the Renters' Reform Coalition, a group of 21 housing organisations campaigning for stronger renters' rights , Charlie Trew, head of policy at the charity Shelter, and Chris Norris, director of policy and campaigns at the National Residential Landlords Association. To sign up for our newsletters click herePresented by Alain Tolhurst, produced by Nick Hilton and edited by Ewan Cameron for Podot

Happy new season, everyone! Tommy is flying solo this week to look back on an exciting opening weekend of the NPLWA - Men's competition as he delves into Saturday's five game slate and has a couple of observations from Friday's season opener at Frank Drago Reserve. First of all, the replay of last season's Top Four Cup Final lived up to expectation in being an entertaining affair, as Champions Kingsway lay down an early marker but Stirling lose no admirers in a battle of two likely title contenders. Green Machine goal scorers Laat Mathiang and Jayden Gorman join us for a chat. Then, to a couple of eye-catching results from Round One, as Perth Glory and Perth SC record confidence-boosting wins. Kelechi comes off the bench for a cameo as he chats about the Italian derby at Dorrien Gardens and doesn't believe the score line truly reflected the game! Tommy then reflects on the Armadale versus Floreat goalless draw which he watched Sunday morning on x2 speed and saw one of the unluckiest misses of all time. There's a brief look at the 1-1 draw between Knights and RedStar, while there was several encouraging signs for Bayswater as they picked up a late 2-1 win over Night Series winners Sorrento FC on Friday. Remember to share us, like, rate, and review the podcast on Apple, Spotify, Google wherever you get your podcasts. We really do appreciate all your support whether you've been with us from the very start or you're jumping on board with the pod for the first time in 2025. Auckland Transport has opened the shed for a look at the electric ferries it's having built. Just last week AT announced the end of several inner city routes, because operator Fullers360 says it doesn't have the crew to staff them. From the first of October, Fullers will no longer operate the Birkenhead, Te Onewa Northcote Point, and Bayswater routes. AT is scrambling now to find a new operator. In the meantime it hopes its new boats will bring a sea change for ferry commuters. Reporter Finn Blackwell and camera operator Marika Khabazi have this story.
The relationship between Auckland Transport and the ferry operator Fullers has hit very choppy waters over the cancellation of multiple Auckland commuter services. From October Fullers 360 will not longer run the Birkenhead, Te Onewa Northcote Point, and Bayswater services, leaving AT scrambling to find a replacement operator. And there also be significant cuts to the timetable on the Gulf Harbour and Half Moon Bay routes. Auckland Transport says Fullers has quit the routes so it can accelerate its training programme with the company short of 12 crews. But Fullers CEO Mike Horne insists AT has known for months that this was coming.
Fullers is ending its operation of multiple commuter ferry services ..leaving AT scrambling to find a replacement operator. From October 1st, Fullers 360 will no longer operate the Birkenhead, Te Onewa Northcote Point, and Bayswater ferries. And there will be significant cuts to the timetable the Gulf Harbour and Half Moon Bay routes. Fuller has previously told Checkpoint that up to 30 percent of its weekly services were being cancelled due to staff shortages. AT says Fullers can't reliably run the full network and concentrate on training new ferry crew. Stacey van der Putten from Auckland Transport spoke to Lisa Owen. Several ferry services in Auckland will be canned from October, leaving AT scrambling to find a new operator. Fullers will no longer run services to Birkenhead, Te Onewa Northcote Point and Bayswater. Services to Gulf Harbour and Half Moon Bay will be reduced for 14 to 18 months to give Fullers time to train up new skippers and deckhands. Reporter Tom Taylor and cameraman Nick Monro paid a visit to one of the North Shore terminals soon to be out of action
An Auckland Councillor is frustrated with the suspension of several ferry services. From October, Fullers360 will no longer operate the Birkenhead, Northcote Point and Bayswater routes. Auckland Transport says it is trying to find a new ferry operator to run the suspended services. Auckland Councillor Richard Hills spoke to Corin Dann.
Mass cancellations of ferries in Auckland prompted the Transport Minister to call a crisis meeting late last week. And over the weekend crew shortages saw services to Half Moon Bay, Birkenhead, Bayswater and Te Onewa Northcote Point canned. Fullers360 is cancelling at least 30 percent of its trips a week due to staff shortages. The ongoing disruptions saw the Transport Minister, who is also the Immigration Minister bring together Auckland Transport, Waka Kotahi and Fullers360 to nut out a solution. Fullers360 chief executive Mike Horne says the Minister's now agreed to change immigration settings.
Auckland's weekend ferry services are virtually sunk, with multiple cancellations and timetable disruptions. Operators Fullers360 says due to crew shortages all Half Moon Bay and inner harbour loop services including Birkenhead, Bayswater and Te Onewa Northcote point are not running on Saturday and Sunday. Instead there will be bus, uber and taxi replacements. They're also warning of possible delays to Waiheke, Hobsonville Point and Devonport services. Auckland councillor on the North Shore Richard Hills talks to Lisa Owen.
