Alex Porter is a fantastic bloke and his determination and positive attitude is incredible especially considering his dream of winning gold at Tokyo 2020 came crashing down literally. Alex's handlebars inexcusably collapsed during the 4000 metre team pursuit cycling race. We spoke about the incident and Alex described the feeling afterwards and injuries that occurred which could've been a heck of a lot worse considering he was travelling at 65km/h. Alex and I also discussed the feeling of joy when he found out that he was going to compete at his first Olympics and what it was like inside the village, his Olympic experience growing up as a kid, funny team mates and how they dealt with the Tokyo Olympics being postponed for twelve months. Thanks so much to Alex for his time and for being so open and honest with his side of the story with what happened at Tokyo, to Rory Noke from Podbooth for a great job of filming and editing the video and to our partners @Renelec Electrical Services and Anytime Fitness Glenelg for their ongoing support.
Former Kickboxing champion, Matt Sarkies is one of the lucky ones, in late 2020 during the pandemic he received a life saving liver transplant! It was a real honour to have him tell his story recently on Legends with Bevo and talk about the health challenges that he has faced throughout his life which ultimately meant he had to give up his kickboxing career. We also spoke about the importance of being an organ donor and why people shouldn't be scared to become one, how he's recovering after the transplant and where to from here for Matt going forward. If you wish to be an organ donor, visit https://www.donatelife.gov.au/ for more information. Thanks so much to Matt for his time as well as Liz Sonntag and Claire Bonieux for arranging the chat and thanks also to Rory Noke from PodBooth for a fantastic job of filming and editing the video.
I was extremely lucky to recently catch up for a chat with two-time Olympian swimming superstar and Adelaide's very own, Kyle Chalmers. Kyle spoke about his friend and retiring AFL superstar, Eddie Betts and the new video 'Enough is Enough', that Kyle is a part of with other sports and entertainment celebrities to make a stand about racism. We also discussed the incredible challenges that Kyle has faced in the past few years which makes his achievements in Tokyo 2020 even more remarkable. Kyle and I also had a bit of fun as we spoke about some of the different unusual pets that he has, some of the funny team mates in the swimming team and three famous people that he would love to have dinner with. Kyle also has a new podcast called Mates and Plates SA, check it out, it's a ripper. Thanks so much to Kyle for giving up his time during a very busy schedule and to Rory Noke from PodBooth for putting this great video together.
It was an honour to speak with former Boomer and two-time Olympian Chris Anstey about why it was so special for the Boomers to win their first ever men's basketball medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games! I asked him whether Patty Mills is our greatest ever Boomer, what it was like for Chris to represent his country at the Olympics and why it meant so much to him. We also discussed what the Aussies need to do and take the next step with winning a gold medal at the Olympics, three famous people Chris would love to have dinner with and Chris had a surprising answer to who he felt was one of the funniest people in basketball that he's met. Chris has written a wonderful book called 'Tall Tales' and you can purchase the book by going to https://www.chrisanstey.com.au/424-2/ Thanks so much to Chris for his time and to Rory Noke for a great job of editing and filming the video. Finally thanks to our great partners, Renelec Electrical Services and Anytime Fitness.
After being told that she needed to ‘lose weight' and that she was ‘too old', four-time Olympian, Emily Jane Seebohm silenced the critics brilliantly by winning bronze and gold at Tokyo 2020! It was a pleasure to interview Emily on The Road to Tokyo and discuss the feeling she experienced when she won bronze in the 200 metres backstroke and gold in the 4 x 100 metres women medley relay. We also discussed Emily's journey into becoming a professional swimmer, how Tokyo was an Olympics like no other, what it was like competing with no crowds and for a bit of fun I asked Emily, the three famous people she'd like to have dinner with. Thanks so much to Emily for her time, to Kate Hutchison from Swimming Australia for teeing up the chat and to Rory Noke from PodBooth for a great job of filming and editing the video.
Imagine coming up close and personal with a five metre great white shark, losing a leg and living to tell the tale! Chris Blowes is definitely one of the most interesting and inspiring guests I've ever had on Legends with Bevo! Check out his website, chrisblowes.com.au to purchase his book, Caught Inside and book him for motivational speaking gigs! Feel free to share this interview with anyone else that would be interested in hearing Chris' incredible story!
The Tokyo Olympics has been unbelievable with so many inspirational stories! Speaking of inspirational and keeping with the Olympics theme, I recently chatted with Adelaide's very own, two-time Olympic Marathon runner, Jess Trengove. We spoke about what it took to qualify for her first Olympics in 2012, her passion for running, childhood memories of the Olympics, what it was like inside the Olympic village and how Jess would have dealt with the postponing of the Olympics due to the pandemic.
The Ryan twins are known for doing great things on the footy field, however as I found out recently they are kicking goals off the field as well. Josh and Lachie have co-founded a fantastic new advertising app called Sticky-Beek! The boys spoke to me about the story behind Sticky-Beek and how people can use the app, their individual footy journeys and we learn that there is a typical sibling rivalry between the twins.
