In this timely episode, I chat with the internet's favourite financial avian—Doomberg—to unpack the escalating chaos in the Middle East and its profound impact on global energy markets. Recorded on Tuesday, March 3rd, as the fog of war deepens, we dive into why oil prices are spiking and how the world's reliance on fossil fuels is shaping modern warfare.Doomberg delivers his signature "no-holds-barred" analysis from "fly-over country," using his unique mental models to strip away the mainstream narrative. We explore the massive disconnect between the information being fed to the public and the harsh realities of energy physics and geopolitics. In this conversation, we cover:Operation Epic Fury: A day-three characterisation of the conflict.Energy as a Weapon: Why energy security is the ultimate arbiter of market stability. The Fog of War: Navigating misinformation and understanding the longevity of current market volatility in the age of algorithms. Market Impacts: How investors should view the intersection of politics and commodities during periods of high tension.Whether you're looking to understand the macroeconomic shift or seeking a "maverick" perspective on the green transition versus energy reality, this conversation provides a sobering look at where we are headed.Brought to you by Progressive Equity. “If you're the one that always gets fed in the nest, you become a bird of paradise. If you're the runt, you get yeeted.”— Chris Abraham, philosopher of the podcast forestIn this unhinged odyssey of a podcast episode, Chris Abraham and co-host Snarky Eunice hatch a conversation that begins with a metaphor about social movements needing applause (Tinkerbell-style), expands into a sharp analysis of the professional clap economy, swerves into conspiracy-adjacent government funding structures, flies through political infighting, lands briefly in the terrain of eco-hypocrisy, and ultimately ends with a heartfelt elegy to a life lived behind the lens. You wanted rails? Too bad. They were dismantled, repurposed for sculpture, and auctioned off to raise funds for a prepper community art collective in Utah.Picking up from S9E4 ("Tinkerbell Tactics"), Chris critiques the performative support required to sustain social movements. He argues:Identity and justice-based initiatives often require external belief and funding to survive, much like clapping keeps Tinkerbell alive. These movements increasingly rely on taxpayer funding, federal grants, and NGO scaffolding—forming a “trust fund for the ideologically vulnerable.”Chris introduces the concept of the "clap factory"—a mechanism by which governments and affiliated nonprofits financially insulate certain causes from public opinion. Why rely on fickle donors when you can be a line item in the Department of Diversity?
In the latest edition of the Nuggets Ink podcast, beat writer Bennett Durando and sports editor Matt Schubert reconvene after a pair of Denver losses. Among the topics discussed: + The Nuggets emptied the tank in an effort to end a five-game skid vs. Minnesota, with Nikola Jokic putting up a 61-point triple-double. Yet after Russell Westbrook's regrettable 14 seconds, Denver dropped that game and another to the Spurs with their starters watching from the bench. Was it worth the gamble? Are there positives that can be taken from the double OT loss? + The No. 2 seed now looks like a distant dream for Denver. And the No. 3 is no guarantee either. With a muddled mess below Oklahoma City and Houston in the West, who do the Nuggets most want to see in the first round? + What confidence level do the boys have in the Nuggets' key players? The fellas hash it out in the second half of the podcast with the NBA playoffs looming in a couple of weeks. Producer: AAron Ontiveroz Music: "The Last Dragons" by Schama Noel

Birds in flocks almost invariably develop a pecking order. An alpha chicken can peck any other in the flock, and a beta chicken can peck all others but the alpha bird. Juncos and other small birds have a pecking order, too. The pecking order – or dominance hierarchy – of a flock of birds is usually this: males are dominant to females and adults are dominant to young birds. As a flock changes and birds come and go, the pecking order changes. If you feed backyard birds, you will likely notice this pecking order behavior in the flock.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? Subscribe to our weekly newsletter.
