Folks, we once again become a Bob Marley podcast when we talk about Exodus. This is easily the most famous Reggae album ever recorded in London! Of course we break down Reggae vs. SKA SKA SKA SKA but before some Natural Mystic, we get into our lives in case you missed it!   We have a sweet opening song about true friendship and then an angry caller with bad taste in candy calls up.Then we talk Flavacol and sneaking food into the theater.Matt talks about Lana Del Rey and Russ and Rob come up with a great business idea. We would have Seriously Terrific Deals (STDs) and we go over the best back up songs of all time.  Then we follow the natural mystic and start Jammin to Bob Marley while listening to those grooves and the great guitar.    Contact us at beckdiditbetter@gmail.com and call or text 218-341-BECK. You can also follow us @beckdiditbetter on Instagram and Twitter but there is not much going on there. PLEASE DON'T TELL ME YOU WERE "Thinking about calling into the Beck Line!" Just do it.   NEXT WEEK: Old Man take a look at my life, because I'm an exhibitionist and it turns me on! We are becoming a Neil Young podcast when we cover Harvest.

Hello everyone, we hope you're staying safe and healthy while staying far, far away—a galaxy, far, far away in fact. If you're sitting around at home bored to tears, we've swooped in to save the day like Han Solo. Each week(ish) we will be watching one of the Star Wars movies for your entertainment, and you can watch along with us! Just sync up the audio from this episode with the audio from the movie, and it'll be just like we're sitting in your living room, on your couch, eating the delicious, Flavacol-encrusted popcorn you just popped for us. This week's episode is Episode I: The Phantom Menace! Join us as we revisit this classic film and try to figure out if it's Natalie Portman or Keira Knightley under all that makeup. If you're watching on Disney+, just listen to the countdown. If you're watching your own personal copy or on another streaming service, the Star Wars logo hits at 15:53 (not the time we say on the show). P.S. Please note we did have some technical difficulties, and we're not entirely sure our devices were running at exactly the same frame rate, so things may get out of sync at some point. Just do your best and enjoy the show. P.P.S. Some minor Clone Wars/Solo spoilers.

Dave is back to answer YOUR Disney questions. What to do about a character meal, and how far in advance to book? Popcorn at Epcot? (and my own home recipe, see below) Where to get discounted tickets? How is it taking 5 people into the parks? Plus, Surprise in the Skies, and taking a little one on their first trip, and Universal is a "big kid park"  Surprise in the skies: Tinkerbell: My Disney-style popcorn: 2 Tbsp canola, 1 Tbsp coconut oil 1/3 cup of high quality popcorn kernels 1 3-quart covered saucepan Flavacol or similar Heat the oil in a 3-quart saucepan on medium high heat. Put a few popcorn kernels into the oil and cover the pan. When the kernels pop, add the rest of the 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels in an even layer. Cover, remove from heat and count 30 seconds. Return the pan to the heat. The popcorn should begin popping soon, and all at once. Once the popping starts in earnest, gently shake the pan by moving it back and forth over the burner. If you keep the lid slightly ajar to let the steam from the popcorn release, the popcorn will be cripser.  Once the popping slows to several seconds between pops, remove the pan from the heat, remove the lid, and dump the popcorn immediately into a wide bowl. Add Flavacol (you want to lightly coat all kernels) Enjoy! But please, please be careful as you are using oil and heat!  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

What makes cinema popcorn taste better than home popcorn?Steven Angel, Amateur cook who enjoys to experiment.Having worked at the theaters for several years and made more than my share of popcorn, I can answer this. It isn't hard. The first thing you have to do is forget the word “healthy”. And the then forget “microwave”. Both are an abomination when it comes to movie theater popcorn. And “air popped”. You want popcorn cooked in oil.Next is the popcorn itself. What you are looking for here is “fresh”. Find a reputable brand that didn't buy up and repackage all the WWII surplus. The fresher it is the more moisture the corn has and the better your popcorn experience. Theaters have an advantage because they move a LOT of corn and don't have that stale half bag in the cabinet from six months back.Coconut oil is another secret and one most home cooks don't have due to price and perceived healthiness. Bear in mind it really isn't the healthiest of oils but you are going for popcorn quality here. You only live once. You can get white or yellow oil. Personally I prefer white because the taste is the same, but you will come out with white popcorn rather than the yellow theater variety. You'll also save 25–40%.The third ingredient is a flavoring salt such as ( my favorite ) “Flavacol”. It's made just for popcorn, comes in quart cartons, and is added to the oil just before popping. Those are my three secrets that I use at home.UPDATE:Thanks to David Critchley who asked for my method:Well, I don't own an industrial popper at home so I have to make do. My method is to add the oil and Flavacol to a large, heavy bottom pan and mix (Flavacol is a flavored salt powder). I then add three kernels of corn, cover, and cook over medium-high heat. I use a glass cover so I can see what's going on. Then after they start to pop I add the rest of the kernels to the pan, stir, cover, and remove from the heat for 30 seconds, This sounds counter-intuitive, but it's actually useful for equalizing the heat around the pan. You're looking for the kernels to pop as close as possible to the same time, yet hot spots in your pan can mess up your timing. Then put back on the heat and shake back and forth. Once the popping slows enough you take it off the heat and keep shaking until it stops altogether. Knowing when is sort of an art and you'll have to try it a few times. There's a fine balance between too much unpopped, just right, and starting to burn. Better to err on the side of caution because nothing is worse than burnt popcorn and popcorn is cheap. You'll always have some kernels that just won't pop. Also thanks to Daniel Berry who suggested adding real butter. It does give it a better flavor in my personal opinion, but you generally won't find it in the theater. The theater uses a butter flavored oil that is more shelf stable and consistent. Olive oil also works. When making popcorn at home you can get far more creative than at the theater for flavorings. One year I made flavored popcorn to give out as Christmas presents.Garlic Parmesan was one flavor. Garlic powder and Parmesan cheese. Paprika and Cayenne pepper can add a bit of spice. Kool Aid or other flavored drink mix powders can be used as well. I made cherry, strawberry, lime, and grape. Cinnamon sugar, garlic-herb, ranch, the sky is the limit. As soon as your batch of popcorn finishes popping, dump it into a container, add the flavoring, and shake. The quicker the better because the hot popcorn makes the flavor stick.Shalini Munjal also asked about where to get Flavacol.I've never seen it in a grocery store, it's the sort of thing you'd need to get from a restaurant supply or such. Personally I found it on Amazon. It comes in US quart sized milk cartons and was $10–15 the last time I bought it.

This involves coconut oil and something called Flavacol, which you can see pictured in this post. I am way more excited about this than I should be.
