We're back with a Christmas bang and another clean episode of the pod, in language at least if not topic. For those with a keen ear, this episode dropped at 2.30pm, a perfect little nod to panto, a medium both of my guests know all too well. Today we have two heavyweights of the stage, Eric Potts and Brad Fitt, both of whom have been wowing audiences for years performing as Dames every Christmas in UK Panto, a genre I myself was involved with for a decade. Eric brings us memories of Classic Christmas Television and disturbing children's shows while Brad and I discuss the tricky task of protecting our kids from unsavoury imagery, the genius of Larry Grayson, and how a theatre tour of India in 2004 scarred us both. Being a Christmas episode, there is much talk of Morcambe & Wise, Dr Who and surprisingly, the fad that is Prime. Basically we've rehashed bits from this year into one podcast so we can be all "ooooh look at us, we've got another podcast"... This week... errr we mean this YEAR: when Robin changed Jonny's name for a prank... the guys had an exclusive clip from the Beverly Hills Cop movie... how many maintenance guys did Robin have in his house for one simple task?... Jonny's most embarrassing confession of all time... Robin tricked Jonny with a cunning test... exclusive audio from Sir David Attenborough... Jonny exposes Hi FM for being a fraud.. Khulood the boss of Hala FM told the guys what she REALLY DOESN'T like about their show... what Ryan Seacrest was saying about the other Hi FM presenters... why Jonny nearly wasn't allowed into America... Robin did something nice for Oman for a change... the time Robin was first on the scene for a tanker fire on the Muscat Expressway... Robin and Jonny's secrets for how to do radio... the ultimate salad... the guys listened to a bit from Rachel Chew's show where she admitted to crashing her car... the time Robin once woke himself with his own fart... the guys had a super serious chat about cyber security... Jonny was bored with Covid isolation... Jonny had a face-off with someone, but was he in the right?... Remember "Lanker Wordle"?... the guys categorically answered whether or not you should wash your jeans

Twas the week afore Chrimbo, when aw thru the hoose, no a creature wiz stirrin' no even a moose. Ye didn't think we'd let you down and not have a pre-Christmas episode up our sleeves, did you?! Firstly we spin through our weekly intro chit-chat in style, covering the fall-out from Stevie Boy's Malaga Marathon endeavours (and of course his Twitter food thread!) plus we take a look in the rear view mirror at our own 2022 highs. Seems we packed a fair bit in! Then we've got a festive treat for you as we welcome to the YHRF pod Gayle Tait. Gayle completed the fabled UTMB in 2022, you'd think that would take centre stage in our conversation with her, you'd be wrong. Something much more valuable has happened during Gayle's running journey. Gayle realised she had a talent for ultra-running after segway-ing into the distance from marathon. Already a very accomplished road-runner she soon found her love of trails and hills, a smattering of podium finishes, 1st places and a blossoming romance with the West Highland Way followed. We do spend time chatting all things UTMB, a dramatic aborted attempt in 2019 and how that led to a triumphant race in 2022. The itch of not finishing in 2019 not only scratched but obliterated, or beast-ed as Gayle would put it! A sense of what running means and does for Gayle is evident throughout. Whether that's finding solace spending hours on the hills and trails on her own or chatting the miles away with a plethora of running pals she's acquired over the years. Running is Gayle's game-changer, mood-changer and lifeline all wrapped up in one. And she's no intention of stopping now, Gayle lifts the lid on her 2023 plans and if racing across Scotland is your thing, you'll be keen to hear all about it! So come listen in, find out about Gayle and take away some running and life lessons. Check in with your pals this festive, you might just be their game-changer. Massive Yuletide greetings from your Sexy LeBuffBuff host team y'all!
Roll up, roll up, for an unprecedented Comfort Eating event as we bring you not one but two very special guests … Yes that's right, parking their sleigh outside Grace's house we have world-renowned singers, entertainers, and the unofficial Kings of Christmas, Michael Ball and Alfie Boe joining us for a fantastically festive episode. Both hugely successful in their own rights, Michael and Alfie have been making music and topping the charts together since 2016, with multiple UK album No 1s to their name, as well as arena tours, TV specials, and Brit awards in tow. In this special Yuletide episode, Alfie and Michael reflect on Christmases gone by, their thoughts on carol singers, who's the best gift-giver and, of course, the comfort foods that see them through Chrimbo every year
In Or, Learn Parkour's third (!) annual Christmas special, Lex and Jordan give the audience what they truly want from Hallmark: the first-ever ADHD cheesy Christmas romance movie plot. Meet our neurotypical protagonists, their small-town troubles, and their plot-relevant hyperfixations. Will they be able to sell enough handcrafted artisan snowglobes to save Christmas? Can Lex and Jordan actually invent and develop a feature film plot in less than an hour or will this entirely go off the rails? And don't forget: we want to hear from YOU! Call in to (312) 625-3760 and leave a message telling us about your dopamine trampoline- you could end up in one of our 2023 episodes! As always, thanks for listening. Welcome to episode 121 of the award-winning Women's Running podcast! I am your host Esther Newman, and she is your other host Holly Taylor. We recorded this on the 1st December, so we're in the middle of some strong Advent content. We then slowly move on to our very excitable chat about our big award win. We are chuffed to bits that the Women's Running Podcast – this podcast you're currently listening to - has been voted Podcast of the Year for the second year in a row, and we have a lovely pink award, and two very large hangovers to show for it.Running a 5KThen we finally move on to running. We talk about running a 5K round Battersea Park, which we did last Wednesday evening for SportsShoes at the RunThrough Chase The Moon event, which we thoroughly recommend, with lots of high vis and bright lights and nice snacks. We also talk about our slightly epic journey back to Bath afterwards. New year's resolutionsI talk about a big fat new year's resolution with my running here, but it's not what you might think – it's not distance or pace or number of races or anything like that. Holly is also gearing up for her new year's resolution, and it's also not what you might think either. Lots of surprises here today.Running veganAnd then we have a bloody huge announcement about food, because we're going to do Veganuary with our friends over on the Simply Vegan podcast, and we're a bit scared about it, because Holly loves her cheese, and I love my bacon. But we're getting our own back by helping them train for a half marathon, which is around the same time as Paris, so we're all going to be training together, powered by Shroomdogs and Facon. Welcome to episode 120 of the multi-award winning Women's Running Podcast. We don't scream about it here, because we recorded before we knew, but we have won Podcast of the Year at the PPA Independent Publisher Awards last Friday – for the second year in a row! We are giddy with it, and will chat about it to DEATH in the next podcast. For now, we're talking about being ill, not washing our duvets, and how marvellous our Podcast Live was last week. New date for the next one coming soon!Running in winterWe talk about Raynaud's (which I suffer from), and running in the cold and dark. We asked our lovely patrons on the Live about how to motivate ourselves to run in the winter, and they came up with some ace suggestions which we go through here. We start talking too about when we need to start our training for the Paris half marathon, which is slightly sooner than Holly thinks.TW: eating disordersWe've had an email in that we'd like to discuss from a listener who is recovering from anorexia, so we chat about that – not from a medical perspective, but we chat about injury, strength training and overtraining, touching a little bit on RED-S, more of which in a future episode. This leads us on to chats about our own struggles with body neutrality, and body. We end by confessing our favourite body parts – and this is where you will instantly (because I will) be googling the phrase Thigh Brow.LinksJoin us on Patreon for exclusive episodes and newsletters from me and Hol!Use this to train for a half marathon by time rather than distanceIt's not too late to join us in Paris!Buy yourself the best Chrimbo present in the shape of a Women's Running membership Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. In episode two, Pádraig is joined by his very good Judy, Shannon Jones Murray for a long overdue catch up. Shannon who is notorious for flaking on plans and known for her quick whit chats all things Christmas and they share some of their less conventional Chrimbo traditions as two, double-barrel named gaylings from broken homes.Pádraig and Shannon talk about some of their fondest memories of one another which coincidently always happened in one of their cars, Shannon (a sharp tongued movie critic) discusses her favourite Christmas movies, who she thinks would be ideal person to play Pádraig in a biopic and the pair have a scream over some of the listeners untraditional Christmas traditions.Follow Shannon's movie and streamings review page @gottareviewit for her reviews of the latest releases and her personal page @sadshan for the most mundane vlogs you will not be able to stop watching Hosted on Acast. Meet Katy Leeson, Managing Director of Social Chain who also hosts a podcast called 'https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/katy-leesons-i-shouldnt-say-this-but/id1442547174 (I Shouldn't Say This But') and at the time of us chatting had just been nominated for an award for 'Leading the Charge and Pushing the Boundaries' with Campaign Magazine ( a big industry title ) I spoke with Katy in real life at Social Chain's very cool office in central Manchester, in the days where you could do that, which is why Kate isn't in this episode. Self Protection Katy spoke about her struggle with the responsibility of being a young female Managing Director. She had imposter syndrome and took herself into therapy sessions to get support on how best to deal with it. In the context of this chat, Katy explained how she made sure she was mentally prepared to talk about her miscarriage in the public sphere because she had no idea what the reaction would be and she was nervous that people would tell her it wasn't the right place or platform - something so many people fear when talking about infertility. Baby Loss Awareness Week Katy shared her story in October 2019, a year on from her miscarriage which happened in December 2018. She spoke about the challenges of that time of year with everybody being together and how it forced her into telling people that I was pregnant, as she wasn't drinking in the Chrimbo celebrations - this was before the '12 week' point. Her family and friends knew and so she also had to share her that she had miscarried on Christmas Eve because she didn't want to get messages wishing her the best Christmas and New Year because I was going to have a baby in the next year. Katy talked about feeling that she was also ruining other people's Christmas because I'd tell them such sad news. Miscarrying Naturally Katy spoke about how she miscarried naturally the day before she was due to be put under for the operation. The first the scan she had, she said felt a good connection to someone who really cared and she said 'You look healthy, everything there on the scan looks healthy, you've just started an unfortunate experience, there was just a problem with that egg or that sperm, and you should be fine and I can't wait to see you again' which Katy said gave her such hope as every other interaction she had, felt like she was just being told to get on with things. Breakdown in Communication. Katy explained how she was still getting letters about having scans for her pregnancy after she had miscarried due to being registered with two different hospitals and how they were ringing her partner but wouldn't speak to him so he couldn't even act as her gatekeeper for. This meant in the end, she had to have numerous conversations reliving her experience over and over/ Telling Work Katy talked about how she had spoken to others about how much of a lift it is, to be told it's not your fault, which is such a straightforward piece of information to give to somebody. We talked about how she had no follow up conversations after going through it and wasn't given any guidance on where to find support. She had stopped her therapy and hadn't told her work as she didn't want to tell them she was going through 'something so horrific' because she was worried they would think she would then be trying again and be off on Maternity. So she didn't tell anyone and struggled with it from Christmas until Easter - which is when she said the broke down. When she did tell them, they were amazing Talking it through in Therapy Katy discussed the grieving process with her therapist and how she had been putting so much pressure on herself with her work and doing the right thing by others. She talked about giving herself permission to grieve once she had accessed support once again. She also talked about how she went to the doctors and was given antidepressants, which she is still on The Impact of Miscarriage We talked about how...

Our books for this final episode of Even The Trunchbull for 2021 are loosely linked around pets at Christmas! The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street by Karina Yan Glaser features Paganini the rabbit, Franz the dog and George Washington the cat. But it's mainly about the five human Vanderbeeker children and their quest to convince their Scrooge-like landlord to allow their family to stay in their lovely apartment. Their tactics run the range from naughty to nice, as is seasonally appropriate. This is a warm and lovely read, sweet but not cloying. Mog's Christmas, by Judith Kerr, is all about Mog the cat! We talk in general about the enduring appeal of the Mog formula, Kerr's very funny writing and iconic illustration style. Welcome to episode 70 of the Women's Running Podcast, and in this workshop Holly and I are on the countdown to Christmas. I start this one super hungover, so I use my delicate state to introduce the idea of running and booze. We talk about how covid has changed our drinking, with some big confessions on both sides – Hol and I are coming from very different angles on this. And we also talk about how we are going to manage booze and running over Christmas, which can be a tough thing to do. The key phrase here is that we're going to be kind to ourselves, and that we will be adjusting our expectations – because the run is the thing. Sometimes, we don't need to be “in training” – sometimes it's fine to just go for a run. Here's a bit more guidance on booze, sleep and food. There are some other things we've done to help our running, and one surprising thing is a bit of self care that Holly suggests (a good idea for a Christmas present for a runner). But this is on the proviso that you don't mind wearing paper pants. So it's definitely not one for me! I also have a big announcement to make at the end of the podcast, with a very exciting race to look forward to in the new year. Thanks to Sports Tours International for that one... By the way, Hol drops the F-bomb in this one: you have been warned. Please rate and review us on Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to your podcasts – these reviews mean the WORLD to us, and really help us to keep this podcast going. In this episode I have a chat with Suzanne Shaw. Yes, that Suzanne Shaw from Hear'Say. Suzanne is currently gracing the cover of Women's Running – available now in actual shops – and she's there for a reason. It's not just because she was a member of a band that provided the soundtrack to some regrettable moments in my 20s. It's because she made some very big decisions a couple of years ago that ended up being pretty life-changing. She gave up the booze, she embraced plant-based eating, and – guess what – she started running! But more than that, she rapidly went from couch to ultra, running for 19 hours, all by herself during lockdown, while raising money and awareness for the Samaritans. In her journey to that date, and ever since, she has thrown herself into the running community – and has discovered new passions that have enhanced her life immeasurably. Listen up to hear her story right now. Please rate and review us wherever you listen to your podcasts – these reviews mean the WORLD to us, and really help us to keep this podcast going. Also here's a thing: it's almost Christmas! Yes it is, there's no point hiding from it. And if you're searching for the perfect present, then we've got just the thing. Welcome to episode 68 of the Women's Running podcast. I'm your host Esther Newman, and this is another workshop with me and Holly. I'm not sure why we can even pretend to call this one a workshop, because basically we cackle pretty much all the way through it. So what we're here to talk about is the massive secret joy that is that we've won an actual award – for this actual podcast! One we couldn't even begin to imagine we would win, so we are utterly thrilled. The award is the PPA Independent Publishing Awards 2021 Podcast of the Year. I know! We won it! Just with us rambling on about not much at all! So we are overjoyed about that: listen in to hear about how we celebrated last Friday... We segue from that seamlessly to how our running is going and how bad we both are at the eight-times table. We then introduce an email from a listener, so we spend a bit of time talking about what she's told us, and that includes topics such as Covid, our immune systems, recovery and being kind to ourselves. Something specific to that email, but some key points that we can all learn from. Let's be kind to ourselves. Please rate and review us wherever you listen to your podcasts – these reviews mean the WORLD to us, and really help us to keep this podcast going. From the sounds of Slade and Band-Aid permeating the airwaves to the snowflake fringed points of sale at seemingly every checkout, for better or worse, Christmas seems to start earlier every year. On average, the buying public might resent the idea of turning their thoughts to the festive season as soon as the Hallowe'en decorations are down, but with one-third of all retail sales taken in the six-week run-up to Xmas, the reality for retailers is that their Chrimbo considerations have to start a whole lot earlier...and I'd suggest that's as early as July! So for today's episode, I've enlisted retail mentor (and my fellow ‘Get Set for Christmas' workshop host) Joanne Griffin, who kindly shares her top Christmas planning and product tips. With 13 years of experience, from working at Not On The High Street to helping home, gift and lifestyle brands to spot new retail opportunities, Joanne has a great deal of commercial knowledge as well as an eye for design and truly knows what it takes to foster a fruitful festive season. In this episode, we talk about creating a stress-free Christmas by seizing upon a slow summer and getting a plan in place, the importance of looking outside your own niche for both product and marketing inspiration and how ever-evolving consumer attitudes and behaviours mean that you need to try to meet your customer where they're at. She also talked about how she went to the doctors and was given antidepressants, which she is still on The Impact of Miscarriage We talked...
For the next two weeks every episode is dedicated to British Christmas slang.Today we will be starting with different words for the winter season. So let's get started.Christmas is a time for friends, food and fun but if you are in a non native English speaker, enjoying all three of these things may be a challenge if you don't know how to express yourself! To start off, Brits have found a way of making just the word Christmas confusing:- Xmas- Chrimbo- Yule!Which is correct and what do they mean? You may have heard Christmas, but perhaps not xmas X-M-A-S. In fact Xmas does not come from British people being lazy and when spelling Christmas but in fact, in Greek, the letter X or Chi is the first letter of the word for "Christ". The suffix "mas" is from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass. Both Christmas and Xmas have the most religious connotations out of all the words used in this season. So where do "Chrimbo" and "Yule" fit in?"Yule" Y-U-L-E is the pagan celebration of the winter solstice and has been around much longer than father Christmas and Rudolph . Yule celebrations were first recorded in 1475. The Yuletide season lasts from the end of November to the beginning weeks of January. Yule celebrations include traditions like mistletoe and decorating trees, traditions we still use today. So in fact Christmas hijacked many of these traditions.Chrimbo spelt C-H-R-I-M-B-O is much more modern and was first used in 1929. Today it symbolizes the more commercial side of Christmas. John Lennon also used the version Crimble C-R-I-M-B-L-E in the Beatles' song about Christmas, titled "Happy Crimble". Ok so now we know how to refer to Christmas, but on these days how to we great each other? Here are some options for you..We can say:- "Merry Christmas!"- "Happy Christmas!"- "Winter wishes!"- Or "seasons greetings!"So have a think, this year are you celebrating Chrimbo, Christmas, Yule or Xmas? That's our episode of the day, remember this is the first of four Christmas Specials so tune in on Wednesday to hear about British winter holidays and celebrations. You can find us on our website https://theslangpodcast.com and from there you can see our transcript and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and many more apps.Or head over to our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/theslangpodcast for updates and more slang!
